Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has spent the past several days in/around the western impact zone of Hurricane Ian, the areas hardest hit.
Restoration and recovery work continues overcoming serious obstacles with infrastructure destruction particularly around Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel Island, Captiva Island, Cape Coral, Pine Island and up toward the Boca Grande pass. These western coastal areas were impacted by sustained 150+ MPH winds for multiple hours as slow-moving Ian crept inland; hence the scale of the destruction.
The power infrastructure is slowly returning to Fort Myers Beach, however, most of the properties are a total loss and/or so heavily damaged power restoration to the structure is unsafe. The work on Sanibel Island is reconstructing the physical power transit system, which will take a long time. According to state officials, approximately 80% of the mainline power grid on Pine Island is now rebuilt; however, many homes are heavily damaged (like FMB) so lines to structures will take longer.
Governor Ron DeSantis gives an update from Burnt Store Marina, which is located between Cape Coral and Punta Gorda on the west. WATCH:
.
Governor Ron DeSantis also announced an official request to The Dept of Commerce and NOAA to declare a federal fisheries disaster which would provide relief to families and businesses impacted by the loss of economic activity in the fishery sector.
Likely the “red line” reason for democrats going after DeSantis for the illegal immigrants shipped to the Elite Enclaves.
Besides the economic disaster wrought by the abuse of Sock Puppet Joe’s pen & cell phone vs relative success in Florida…is now a prima fascia comparison.
Sock Puppet Joe Bama’s gang are now 0-2 in handling natural disasters this fall, Puerto Rico and Florida.
Desantis is now 1-0, with his victory being a head to head win.
DeSantis is doing a great job!
And he should stick with it after he is reelected for 4 more years.
Hopefully, the next 4-8 years will bring about a change in perception, where all the focus, prestige etc. is on Federal elected offices, AT THE EXPENCE of local and State officeholders.
That was NOT the intent of our Founders, and anyone who SAYS they support the vision of our Founders, and a return to the Constitution, and yet is totally focused on the seatcount in Congress, is an idiot.
Governors are inherently very powerful elected officials, for good or ill.
Notice DeSantis compared to Whitmer. It wasn’t the Federal Govermment, or any one of 100 Senators, or 435 congressmen, that ordered Covid patients into nursing homes, and did so much more damage with covid, it was Governors.
WHY do we give deference and attention to Congress, more typically than to Governors, or our State Legislatures? THIS has to change, if we want a return to the Constitutional Republic our founders envisioned.
First you need to stop believing in anyone party related.
Absolutely! It is nice to read a posting based on an understanding of our Constitution. Thanks, Dutchman.
Who is Jeanette Nuñez? Florida’s Lieutenant Governor. Who would take over if DeSantis has a new job in 2024.
Little is known…other than that she headed up the government affairs and public policy for the large hospital system, Jackson Memorial Hospital in Dade County. Big Medical.
Wouldn’t health freedom Floridians want to know who she is and what she stands for?
Regardless of how any of us feel about
Ron DeSantis , I think we could All Agree that he is the Right Man at the Right Time here .
Everytime I see video or pictures of the horrific destruction this hurricane left behind I break down
in tears .
GodSpeed All , Praying and Praying for You .
Yes. And I honor Sundance for referring to him respectfully as Governor Ron DeSantis.
Absolutely Anne , Good Point !
Sundance is the BEST 🥰
And Governor Ron DeSantis is the right man for Florida at the right time!
Ron DeSantis is easily the best governor in America today. How could anyone who wants what is best for the state and the people feel anything but respect for him. Unless you would prefer the likes of the drug addict Andrew Gilliam or the dictator Gavin Newsome instead of prosperity for the people and the state, I don’t understand how you could not think highly of him.
Good thing for the people in Florida the Uniparty establishment wants him to be President really really bad. Otherwise, I dont know if he would still be trying so hard to impress.
Then again, his true alignment in the background is with the same Uniparty establishment that are literally doing harm to us all. If he was a real man he would use the facts and evidence readily available to expose the 2020 steal instead of trying to steal 2024 from the rightful President which we all know is not possible in the real world so why is he still going for it? The fix is in, thats why.
cmon, lets hear it… I dont swim with the fish
These types of commentary followed by four likes is despicable in context. So..in your eyes nobody can ever do good because their conscience and duty tells them to. You people are turning off the middle. You sound like ideologues that always have to inject a poisoned view in to a situation that has nothing to do with it to further “your” cause..
middle of the road equals mediocrity
no thank you
MAGA all the way
Lindell over DeSanta any day
MAGA vs. the Maggots
Oh my, how gloriously good it is to use federal dollars from a vaguely applicable source to give money to families and businesses that should have insurance because, well you know, they live in a state known for hurricanes.
Yeah, it Is glorious Gov D robbing Peter to pay Paul. This is his state’s problem and on a loophole he gives federal monies to his state.
The majority of Americans choose to live elsewhere, far away from repetition hurricane, and are not responsible for their chosen disaster lifestyle.
Find FLORIDA money, Florida dollars. This should not fall on the country as a hole.
Mass Psychosis’s comment is spot on. This is a typical Uniparty move. It is always easy to give other’s money and what they do best.
While it would be ideal if we could all find that perfect place to abide, there are many many places that are prone to disasters. OK, KS & other states have their share of tornadoes, CA has earthquakes, wildfires & landslides as does Washington & Oregon. The Midwest, etc. have periodic floods & the NE states have hurricanes also & the most northerly states are prone to severe winter storms & freezing. Perhaps we should have stopped all building in the 1800’s!
Hard to fault people who follow the glorious sun & mild temperatures to seek out their own slice of paradise! Overall, we are a wealthy nation & can afford to help our citizens wherever they choose to live.
Would even be easier if we did not send most of our wealth to other nations to spend or start wars that we have no business sticking our collective noses in!
Good morning, I try to be supportive on this website as WE ARE ALL ON THE SAME TEAM! I will try to make a couple points with the underlying message stated that WE ARE ALL MAGA and Trump (who has made mistakes) is a generational hero and patriot that most will only see once in a lifetime.
Governor DeSantis may be the next choice of the Uni-party, that are amazingly good at taking over and corrupting our causes like they did with the Tea Party. But we are moving the needle, changing the dialogue. the Uni-party is far from stupid, they know which way the wind is blowing. Governor DeSantis may be a smart independent thinker who is using them for his own reasons (I hope). So if he speaks on conservatisim and commonsense we should support him and demand the same if elected.
I love President Trump but he trusted the swamp too much, did not take bold enough action (like completely de funding the FBI) He listened to the DC insiders for advice and got screwed every time….If he runs he will get my vote, if not I will support any conservative because they are on my side ideologically.
Finally, having survived a hurricane and flooding, I can tell you that the meager funds provided by the “insurance” agencies are laughable and come pretty far from returning you to normal. If you house was built in the 80’s they depreciate everything 50% down to the $1.15 outlet cover and the shoe molding on the wall. You get half of what you lost (minus the deductible of course).
The USG wastes so much taxpayer money on covid relief, aid to ukrane and high speed trains to nowhere, I am not upset if a few of us get some money back. its not like a tax cut hangs in the balance…
We on the right have more that binds us than divides us, we have to stop eating our own.
So, you’d rather the money went to Ukraine?
suck it easy. are you a top or a bottom?
We have ample resources to take care of our own.
You obviously don’t live in FL and have never had the misfortune to be wiped out by a natural disaster, good for you but, STFU about this. Things like this are a better use for federal dollars than shoveling the money to illegal immigrants or corrupt foreign governments.
I think we need to bus some illegal invaders to your neighborhood.
The Uniparty doesn’t really want RD to win—they just really don’t want PDJT to even be able to run.
If you look at the past Florida governors RD is in a league of his own—our governors were as bad as our senators.
During the 04 hurricane season we had jeb, we got fed help and news because his dumb ass bro was prez.
Obviously you haven’t been keeping up, Ron DeSantis took the reins as a leader in Florida without the GOPe Rino overlords. His decisive actions show what type of leader he is. unfortunately, for him to go National, it can’t be done without the GOPe’s. At this point I want to reelect him as governor of Florida and keep him for four years, I don’t want the GOPe convincing him he should run against Trump.
The stolen 2020 election and the response of the governor to the hurricane are two different things and should not be conflated.
I think you are a little off here, there is corruption and a uniparty but we need his leadership here in FL at this time, stop muckraking, it’s not the time for it.
Please keep communications / Internet restoration for Cape Coral, Pine Island and Sanibel in prayer.
.
Wireless is very shaky and fiber-optic transport still almost non-existent.
.
Comcast and CentruyLink are basically having to rebuild from scratch.
.
A from scratch build would almost be easier than the hodge-podge of system integration they have left to work with.
.
On the other hand the Feds can’t really monitor anyone in those areas…
Doing an excellent job as Governor handling the Hurricane Ian natural disaster. Meanwhile…
What Paul is really saying: President Trump will be President in 2024.
Thanks, Paul. Everyone knows it. The whole world knows it.
I would never put much stock in anything that Paul Ryan says! Just more piling on in an attempt to turn others against Trump!
Still more proof that he will be a future President either in 2024 if Trump decides not to run or 2028.
Just my opinion,,,desantis is good for Florida. this is true. He needs to be here as long as he can,,,as governor. I support him for that reason. As for president? Nah,, gonna go Trump. I like the trumpster
Is he still throwing Texans in jail for illegally trying to help?
DeSantis has been a good governor. I think he will win reelection in a few weeks. He needs to stay in office beyond 2024. He’s still quite young with a young family and I would like him to gain more experience with his current office.
I don’t give DeSantis a lot of credit for his hurricane response. DeSantis is following the playbook of President Trump when he dealt with Hurricanes Irma and Michael. President Trump set the “gold standard” for government hurricane response.
….and Florida has been in the hurricane response business for decades
Yeah, the business of getting federal dollars, as in all States’ taxpayers money, to pay for their problem.
A lot of Governor RETIRE from politics, once term limited.
And, there are no shortage of good paying jobs, for retired Politicians.
We decry “career politicians” and yet want ones WE “LIKE” to stay in politics,…how funny.
The amazing recovery that is underway in Florida is a real time example of how America should be and can be. An in progress determination to show the rest of the world how things are done when people are truly free.
Local Lee County and FMB Gov have been weak at Best- without Desantis, we would be screwed . I live on FMB and expect to be in my house full time within a week or so- second floors of many homes are good provided the structure held (I used to HATE the condos , not so much after seeing them block and save many homes) the recovery efforts on FMB are beyond remarkable – I believe 70% of everything put on the island by humans will have to be hauled off – destruction is astronomical-
We are beyond blessed to be still standing , home standing and plenty of Fight left –
Thanks for all the Prayers – miracles are being delivered daily –
Got a buddy on FMB in Leonardo Arms, 3rd floor. He thinks his building will pass inspection – maybe not is a big chance. The building closest to the Gulf is a total loss. Built in 1969 one of the first on the beach.
An old friend of mine has wintered in a condo complex in Bonita Springs. Owners there expect it to be next year before they will be able to return. She is doubly grateful right now she did not buy there.
I kept a fish camp in Moore Haven, Glades County about 60 miles west of Ft Myers for 30 years. Sold out Dec 2016. In 2005 Wilma leveled my first frame cottage, built on pilings but I’d already sold it. Had a sm concrete block stucco w/ metal roof and Wilma took most of the roof and then dumped a foot of rain. Fixed it myself on the inside and had a good ol Georgia boy fix the roof.
FEMA was amazing but W was prez and Jeb! was governor – still, credit given where it is due – FEMA was amazing!
An odd thing – there are no collections up here for Ian victims. Not sure why. Not even at my church. Normally, there’d be something at the cash registers at Wawa, a collection at church, at my kids’ schools, and at different community and sporting events. But there’s been nothing. That said, I don’t have a lot to give, but I can give something. Where should I direct my funds?
Jeff Childers posted this on his Coffee & Covid Substack. I just checked and the link works. On the landing page it states that for contributions for Ian, 100% of donations will go towards relief rather than a small percentage of fees being held back to cover administrative costs.
https://www.volunteerflorida.org/donatefdf/
Also, I think Mike Lindell has a special promo code for MyPillow relief efforts.
(Edited to correct typos & add Lindell note)
Thanks Jeff!
No Karl Rove sighting?
