Joe Biden’s economic and energy policies have resulted in another record matching former President Jimmy Carter. The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced an inflation driven increase in SAA benefits of 8.7% beginning in January 2023. This is the largest cost of living adjustment in 40 years.
(Social Security Administration) – Approximately 70 million Americans will see a 8.7% increase in their Social Security benefits and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments in 2023. On average, Social Security benefits will increase by more than $140 per month starting in January.
Federal benefit rates increase when the cost-of-living rises, as measured by the Department of Labor’s Consumer Price Index (CPI-W). The CPI-W rises when inflation increases, leading to a higher cost-of-living. This change means prices for goods and services, on average, are higher. The cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) helps to offset these costs.
We will mail COLA notices throughout the month of December to retirement, survivors, and disability beneficiaries, SSI recipients, and representative payees. But if you want to know your new benefit amount sooner, you can securely obtain your Social Security COLA notice online using the Message Center in your personal my Social Security account. You can access this information in early December, prior to receiving the mailed notice. Benefit amounts will not be available before December. Since you will receive the COLA notice online or in the mail, you don’t need to contact us to get your new benefit amount.
If you prefer to access your COLA notice online and not receive the mailed notice, you can log in to your personal my Social Security account to opt out by changing your Preferences in the Message Center. You can update your preferences to opt out of the mailed COLA notice, and any other notices that are available online. Did you know you can receive a text or email alert when there is a new message waiting for you? That way, you always know when we have something important for you – like your COLA notice. If you don’t have an account yet, you must create one by November 15, 2022 to receive the 2023 COLA notice online. (more)
A 25% increase in the rate for those who qualify for federal food stamp assistance….
An 8.7% increase in the rate for those who qualify for Social Security benefits….
Meanwhile real wages decreased 3.8% in September and the borders are wide open for cheap labor to pour in.
So next month I get my very first Social Security check. Hot dog! 8.7% more. -Oh I applied to Orange County to be a Poll Worker. Looks good like I’ll be looking over the ballots this November. I fell like @catturd ….
Found in the bin… 🙁
Thank you Ad rem. One day I’ll figure out what is causing my “bin” propensity…. Obviously I need some improvement!
Sorry…this one got binned too. Ugh….do you have another email address you could use? Usually the false positive matches are keyed by someone’s similar email address. It’s worth a try.
Ok, I think I did it. Again thank you Ad rem!
You’re welcome! 😀
Like your ZZyzx Rd. avatar. Been there, done that.
Just got accepted as a Poll worker in our county in Nevada (Washoe) and had first day of training today.
I love Washoe county. I was born in (Ely, Nev) White Pine County — A little cold in January.
JG – That 8.7% increase doesn’t go into effect until January 2023.
Interesting that the Social Security “increase” is announced now right before the midterms. Sounds like another “bailout” of the student loan program that is now on hold. The Bra?don admin appears to think they can PROMISE a BAILOUT to anyone who they “think” wants one. Just to be seen as a “Savior.”
I get my Social Security and I know this “social security system” cannot afford yet another “Biden Bribe for a vote” scheme that will most likely not meet any testing as to whether the SoSe system can afford it.
Our great nation’s financial system is nearing bankruptcy and another repeat of the 20o8 , or 1930’s crash as far as I can ken. And yes, am thinking on it a lot.
Not sure about anything these days, but I can tell you one thing, I am not a sucker for another bribe or Ponzi scheme from “Liedon.” I am smelling FLOP SWEAT OOZING off this “fully weaponized and LAME DUCK ADMINISTRATION” if it ever was one.
Seppuku is the only answer for them as far as I am concerned. Just get it done and spare the rest of us so we can get on with RESTORING the USA first, and then be they helper we have always been to countries who really need our benevolence. Not our wars.
Love and Peace to all.
.
It’s always announced around this time
As a poll worker, the Chinese probably have a dossier on you now!
Depending on what your check $$$ status is— this almost pays for medicare.
Oh wait until you get your statement from the gov, they take the medicare $$$ from your check and then tell you it’s income at the end of the year.
Making it look like basically you get about $2000 more than you do—government common core.
Yes. Last year we got the notification of our cost of living raise. Then, in January, we discovered that we got less because they took an increase off the top for Medicare. This is the only way they can increase Medicare payments. And, as an aside, to give you an idea of what a ponzi scheme Medicare is – my eye doc had to charge Medicare $85,000 in order to get his standard fee of $2400 for a procedure. The anesthesiologiist had to charge $6000 to get $240. My husband and I have to pay $1000 a month for supplemental insurance to cover what Medicare will not. Just a heads up – Medicare is another name for ‘single payer’ which is what Obamacare was hoping to achieve.
The bad news is the increase means SSN will run through their savings account and move to Pay As You Go within 5 years.
The SS System is set up so everyone takes a 20% Cut when they hit Pay As You Go. This was in the original 1930’s legislation. And, it still applies.
Well I sure hope all this suffering is worth it.
I hope we take back the house and the senate.
If we don’t do that with worst economy since the peanut farmer, we all are doomed.
Problem is the Red team isn’t any better than the Blue team, and actually make things worse.
I disagree . . . We’ve got some outstanding candidates who are likely to win if people get out and vote!
I’m voting for sure. In several cases I will be casting my vote against someone not for the other.
All infiltrated, UNITE to keep any rights. Simple, and written for Citizenry.
My theory is that many of these politicians are compromised. Ie: cheating, taking bribes etc etc. and the Dems are using it against them. TERM LIMITS
Well, taking back Congress sounds good but what difference will it make if all the old RINOS continue on as they have?
On a different note, why is Jill Biden wearing a tablecloth?
Funny! It’s either that or grandma’s drapes
Scarlett O’Hara wore them better. Fashion fail.
And why do Jill and Joe appear as giants kneeling beside Lilliputians Jimmy and Rosalyn?
Nothing will ever convince me that this isn’t a photoshop.
Joe looks like he is about to put Rosalynn on his knee, a la Howdy Doody.
After seeing the picture accompanying the story, my only question is this. Has Jimma and Ros recovered their couches with Jill’s dress? /s
A picture is worth a thousand words showing two of the three worst presidents in USA history, and almost to scale.
The halfling from the 70s, and the full scale disaster of today.
Who would have every thought someone could screw up American geopolitics worse than the Carter administration.
And the left will sing the demented occupant praises for giving us seniors an 8.7% pay raise.
And those same sheep are either too blind or totally clueless as to why the increase.
No thanks…would gladly choose a 1% COLA and a negative inflation rate every time.
How much will Medicare premiums increase to offset this? And, as welcome as this is for retirees on fixed incomes, it will accelerate the fiscal demise of the program. Our children will see nothing after being taxed to death, unfortunately aided by both parties.
The amount of posters asking that question, or similar, indicates how poorly the information on Medicare premiums has been communicated. Surprising, kinda, since a reduction in premiums, even the minor 3%, should have been shouted from the rooftops as a major coup for Brandon, you know, keeping the costs of medical care for seniors down. But, alas, it doesn’t appear so. Fret not, they’ll get us in other ways even if the Part B is down next year. They always do.
The medicare actually went down from $170.10 in 2022 to $164.90 in 2023, so that means you get to keep another $5.20 of your SS on top of the 8.7% raise. Most people don’t know that Medicare is not free. We were having $170.10 deducted from our monthly SS checks for it, and it will now be a little less in 2023. Last year, the Medicare deduction went up over 14%, while SS only went up 5.9%, go figure.
Wow, I will have to make plans for all of my extra funds 🙂
Exactly. Medicare is not only not free, it pays out as little as possible for medical care and that is why many physicians no longer accept Medicare patients even if they have supplemental insurance.
You win the prize for today! The premiums WILL increase and the amount rec’d will be a pittance if it INCREASES at all! This is the shell game that biden is playing. Medicare has done this COLA increase malarky before. Another throw it at the wall and see if it sticks by the Dems. EPIC FAIL.
These traitorous democrats led by blithering and incompetent trator Beijing joebama is only trying to buy votes!! Where is he going to get the monies to properly fund this without massive tax increase’s??!!
Thru the uniparty “rino crats” policies of spend and tax – yes in that order!!
Vote every single dem Rule o of office and bring them up in charges for treason against our Beloved Constitution and it’s Rule of Law!!
Oh, wow! I might be able to afford a bag of ramen noodles to go with my bean and a hot dog supper!
How is this going to be paid for???
The same way it has been for the last few years – print more money!
The sad fact of the matter is the 8.7% cola increase comes nowhere close to covering actual cost increases.
I wish, I could give this a thousand likes!!!
I have a dish towel that has the lemon pattern that Jill is wearing on her dress. I bet her dress costs more than is in my monthly social security check.
Be prepared to have more money taken out if your check for the additional Medicare payments you will owe because of this.
This means they know its here to stay. Only parts of the gobberment can pretend. Parts have to deal with reality.
Well, we’re back to ‘Jimma’s Time’ now, with far worse coming.
How many want to place any bets we are going to go back further to ‘the 30’s, and ‘the Depression’ ?
“I’m all takers”
Carter high inflation. Clinton high inflation, Obama high inflation, Biden high inflation. I am starting to notice a pattern here!
The steamroller runs on fossils printing green dollars💲
The CPI has been cooked since the days of Bush 1. So actual inflation is higher than the 8.7%. Seniors have a different expenditure pattern than people at large (less education, more medical) but as far as I know, this is not tracked.
That is such a bizarre photo. Is it supposed to show that the Bidens are even bigger a**holes?
Under this administration I’m not holding my breath. There is probably a line item in it that says if you have income of X + or- you will get zip in the way of an increase,
