The current inflation is embedded in the cost of products, because it’s a supply side issue.
Financial “experts” can shout all day long about the fiscal policy (spending) being the origin of inflation (ie. demand side), they’re wrong. Our current inflation cycle, most notably evident within massive increases in food prices, is a supply side issue created by the increased energy costs. Full stop. It’s a Biden policy outcome.

I was a teenager during the Carter years and I absolutely still remember the fallout of his Administration. I was entering the workforce right when Reagan was coming in and the economy was horrible. It took close to 4 years to dig out of it. It’s what sealed the deal (for me) to go into the military instead of going to college. I saw that I couldn’t afford it the way things were at the time. I don’t regret it at all but I do see a lot of similarities from then to now. It wasn’t Reagans economy that I was stuck in it was Carters economic hangover, and it was a doozy. That’s exactly what whomever win’s in November will be dealing with. The “Hair of the Dog” (aka Democrat policies) will not work.
I do remember those Carter years. I graduated high school in 1980 and spent the first years of the 80’s in college.
The 81-82 recession was brutal and it altered our economy forever. And a lot of it I think was driven like now, by energy costs.
77 grad here. Worked in the home building industry during that period. Lots of lay-offs and beer money was in short supply.

Retired Magistrate here: Yes, it most definitely is increased energy costs. Under President Trump we paid anywhere between $1.90 and $2.64 per gallon for fuel oil; right now the price is $4.72 and climbing. We have heated with fuel oil for years and have never paid this much per gallon.
When you pay this much for fuel oil, along with higher gas prices plus electricity prices, expendable income really takes a hit no matter how much you have saved and scrimped.
The cost of fuel oil was high in 2013-2014. I was paying almost $600 a month in January and February to heat my home. That is why in 2014, I decided to get a heat pump.
What with the increase in food costs on top of energy costs, many people will be hurting. Energy costs will be rising and rising as the US runs out of the strategic oil reserves (using what tax payers put in it to subsidize the US) which Biden has been releasing to lower fuel costs.
You know what I love…The Domino’s commercial that plays hundreds of times a day, no matter which channel you are on…….REMINDING Americans why they need a 20% discount on crappy pizza…. Because of the price of gas…

It’s a way to share a garden space with your neighbors who don’t own capable land, and/or members who trade their labor for the produce. It’s not only not creepy, it’s a good way for apartment dwellers to reduce their food costs while getting the freshest, best veggies. Very popular in my area.

Not that I trust the federal government to not have nefarious intentions in everything they do, but at least this appears to be an attempt to build a database of community gardens that are located on federal, state, municipal, or church properties.
My local town has one such garden that is located on our town government’s “Townhouse” property. It was created and managed by our volunteer Main Street Association and has been in operation for about 8 years.

I am retired, live alone so these costs affect me, but I am able to get by. I cannot fathom what it must be like for a family of four. You go to the grocery store, and you buy like 10 items, and it cost you $50.00. This winter is when the people are really going to get hit with rising gas, electric and natural gas prices going through the roof. This is getting worse than the good old Jimmy Carter years.
Same here, Frankie. I’m so thankful my daughter is an adult and both she and her husband are working decent jobs with only car debt, rent and insurance to pay.
I can control my themselves, travel, etc. I’m happy I’m not having to deal with anyone else on these issues.

I bought Halloween candy at the local WalMart grocery store yesterday. I wanted to get it at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet but they didn’t have any of the 3 kinds I bought there last year and wanted to get again. The chocolate was just too expensive. I spent $17 for 182 pieces of candy I like but don’t love (Sweethearts, tootsie roll pops, smarties, gummy bears – kids loved those last year – and other stuff in the mixed bag. It’s all in the storage closet unopened until Halloween. The same amount of chocolate would have been around $31.50 plus tax, but then I would have needed another bag after eating way too many Butterfingers and Baby Ruth bars before Halloween got here. I know myself.
I gave out 144 pieces in about 55 minutes last year.
Thank you for keeping up a wonderful American tradition. I kinda stopped in the 80’s after people looking for drugs at the house across the street knocked on my door instead. Not long after I moved to the country and the farms were too far apart and humans too few. Good memories of city life in the 60’s though. It was fun.
We should post up pictures of us in the old style costumes. I wonder what the kids do today. The year Glenn went up I was an astronaut. What a blast. Kids can sure use a good time these days. I guess our parents shielded us from some of the rough stuff back then too. Halloween was part of that shield. Community.
True story: I bought my house in 2018 from a flipper and moved in the first week of October. A couple weeks later I asked one neighbor how much candy they give out and he kind of hemmed and hawed and said nothing in 2017. That didn’t seem right so I asked another neighbor and he said they gave out about 50 pieces but um did I know about last year. No, what? Well, last year on Halloween, my house was the location of a drive by shooting where one guy was killed because he stole the shooter’s gun. When the woman who owned the house died and her husband fell apart, a bunch of low-lifefriends moved in on him. There were 15 police calls in the year before this happened. No one wanted to tell me because they didn’t want to scare me and were so happy a seemingly normal woman moved in (fooled them!) I just said ‘well I guess the police tape would discourage trick or treaters.’ We got about 160 and at least 6 adults told me how happy they were that someone new and normal was living here now (fooled them too!)
I went to a neighborhood festival a week or two later and saw a sheriff’s deputy and a couple other people talking. I introduced myself, gave the deputy my address and assured him there would be NO police calls to my house. They were all happy to hear that.
I live rural……..here we have trunk or treat. The local churches put it on…….you drive to the church parking lots and tailgate, handing out candy to kids as their parents drive them around to the various church parking lots.
We have those as well. A lot of them are on the 29th this year so the kids should be getting a LOT of candy.
We went out several nights growing up but stayed home Halloween night because that’s when the mischief occurred.
We have that in my small town too!

Here in Idaho mountains the farm raised chickens and turkeys went up from $4 to $6 per pound! Farm fresh eggs went from $3 to between $4 and $5 per dozen, depending on a farm. A whole pig last year same time was $575, now $750.
This is the current cost buying straight from a farm stand.

And they likely get more money from the end user than they get from a meat packing plant.
Inflation has not been a big factor even with massive deficits for decades because productivity in the country increased. Now with the Green communists running our economy, productivity is down, energy costs are up and inflation is smacking us in the face. Combine that with Biden handing out trillions of dollar and this is what you get. Sadly, the media will keep the public stupid on all of this.
Biden is a buffoon. He’s nothing but a rubber stamp. He simply believes if he does what his handlers tell him and throws in some “folksy” lies he ll get votes or adoration. Biden and his Obama pals are destroying the oil and gas industry on purpose. Presently oil is $90.00 per barrel and there are 42 gallons in a barrel. So roughly $2.14 in oil and $1.80 in shipping/pipeline costs, refining transporting, retail and taxes for a national average of $3.94.
If you are president/CEO of an oil company why would you drill any more than you need to. Answer: You won’t.
Result: $135 a barrel and $5.00 gasoline everywhere. Any Ukraine peace will be a short blip down. Russian will put the screws to Europe and laugh all the way to the bank.
Russia recently offered to save Germany again by shipping gas through the part of NordStream2 that the Derps missed.
Pretty sure the WEFfers won’t take them up on that, they are on record declaring their fealty to the Kievan Ruse.

Today I built a fire in my fireplace insert, after completely restoring it with new firebrick and new floor. Wanted to make sure it would work. Now to work on adding more insulation to the ceiling……sigh……I really don’t know how I will do that, but I can learn. Getting ready to be as self sufficient as possible.
Would getting it blown in be possible? I know they do that for walls.

I was disappointed to see the demand-side inflation segment on Tucker Carlson tonight. No mention of the actual causes of the inflation. His “expert” blamed the covid economy and Congressional spending bills. The “expert” also intimated that wages were “rising” but just not fast enough to keep up with inflation.

Strain buttermilk into container….hey-its real buttermilk! Use it for baking! I usually use it next day for baking soda bread.
Rinse the butter..then place in container. I use small mason jars with lids. You can put salt in it after it is done. Try it plain first you may be surprised !

Have been buying a dozen eggs for $2.99 for months. Today they went up to $3.49 a dozen.
Pumpkin seller who set up on a corner in town sells their pumpkins for higher price than the local grocery store. I went and asked if I could have any pumpkins they were going to throw away — for whatever reason — and now have a stack of beautiful pumpkins on my front steps, all waiting their turn to get processed.
When I was 26 my 83 year old neighbor and great mentor, Vi, told me to ‘Ask for whatever I want. All they can do is say no.’
The pumpkin seller said yes. Yeah!
