WNBA player Brittney Griner was arrested in Russia in February for bringing cannabis oil into the country while traveling for a basketball game. Griner brought vape cartridges with her containing cannabis oil, a prohibited substance in Russia. Today the 31-year-old was sentenced to nine years in Russian prison, after she was found guilty of possession and smuggling of illegal drugs.
The Biden administration is attempting to work out a prisoner exchange where Griner and Paul Whelan, a former U.S. Marine detained in 2018 in Russia of espionage charges, would be released in exchange for Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout.
The White House released the following statement:
“Today, American citizen Brittney Griner received a prison sentence that is one more reminder of what the world already knew: Russia is wrongfully detaining Brittney. It’s unacceptable, and I call on Russia to release her immediately so she can be with her wife, loved ones, friends, and teammates. My administration will continue to work tirelessly and pursue every possible avenue to bring Brittney and Paul Whelan home safely as soon as possible.”

Have you ever read the real case against Whelan? It’s hard to find actual facts about it, but he is a sketchy person for sure.
In the military, he was convicted of attempting to steal $10,000 from the government, bouncing $6,000 worth of checks, falsely using another person’s Social Security number, willfully failing to report his leave on 3 occasions, and going AWOL from his unit twice. The Marines charged him with fraudulently opening electronic proctor accounts on their exam system, completing multiple examinations and grading his own examinations, which could have resulted in advancements in rank and pay. The special court-martial, however, found him not guilty of that charge. He received a bad conduct discharge.
He went to Russia several times from the time he was in the Marines in Iraq. In 2018, he supposedly went to Russia to help show around the relatives of a friend who was marrying. He gave several thousand dollars to this friend (supposedly so he could buy his bride a gift) and he received a flash drive from the friend with the names of border guards. He has passports and citizenship from 4 countries: Canada (where he was born), US, UK, Scotland.
Whatever he was doing, Trump and Pompeo investigated the case against Whelan and decided not to do anything about it. That tells me something. Also, the relatives of Whelan asked if Russia would allow him to serve his time in the US. That indicates that the relatives know he was guilty of something.
I sure hadn’t heard anything about that! I hope he has to serve all 9 years.

I get back injections twice a year
I have liver, kidney, and pancreatic damage from decades of opioid scripts. The steroids are not good for those conditions. I have been uninsured since ’08, and Doctors are really expensive when you don’t qualify for assistance.
I have heard that pot helps those undergoing chemo, but I do not think it helps people who have substance abuse issues and addictive personalities.
Brittany is an athlete and i am surprised she uses drugs, except, her exceptional physical size gives her a huge advantage over her competition. She does not need to be sharp.

Look. I’m in pain 24/7 and, yes, it is often excrutiating. My injury changed my life. I cannot sleep more than a couple hours at a time. Doctors cannot fix it, but would love to prescribe something because most people couldn’t survive without some sort of medication.
I will not comply. There are ways to learn to tolerate and conquer pain, at least to some degree. It takes personal willpower, combined with belief in a higher power, along with mental acuity. This cannot happen when one is using any substance as a crutch.
Use whatever works for you when you absolutely have to, in order to live a productive life. If all you do is focus on pain, something is not right.

I see quite a few in the comments who haven’t followed this story from the beginning. Griner has played on a Russian team for many years, so she is familiar with the laws of Russia. She was arrested prior to the incursion into Ukr. Griner is not a political prisoner and the WH didn’t giver her a thought until a month ago.
