The Humane Society of Virginia is trying to find homes for 4.000 beagles, exactly two weeks after NIAID Director Anthony Fauci told congress he would no longer use beagles for allergy testing.

July 5, 2022 – Under fire from foes of federal animal testing, the agency headed by COVID-19 czar Anthony Fauci has canceled a plan to start new tests of allergy medicine on beagles, some as young as 6 months.
In a letter to Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) and promoted by the White Coat Waste Project, Fauci said that instead of dogs, the new hay fever drug will be tested on rodents.
“Although the contract to Inimmune Corporation proposed the use of murine and canine preclinical animal models, after consultation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the company elected to proceed using two rodent models only,” wrote Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. “No experiments utilizing the canine model are being conducted under this contract.”

My first dog was an SPCA adoptee then I found a stray and took it in. Then I found a box of puppies along a rural Charleston highway…kept one and took the others to the shelter. I had 3 mutts for 12+ years. They were the most loving and affectionate.
then a border collie mix who would herd my four kids into a tight group and then ‘count’ them, she would look at each one specifically and then look at me after #4.
Had a golden, full of love.

I was talking to my 75 year old neighbor the other day when the subject of Dr. Fauci came up somehow.
She grew up in Brooklyn, near 13th Ave and 83rd Street in Dyker Heights, which is the next neighborhood over from here. She said that Dr Fauci’s father owned a pharmacy on that corner, so everyone in that area knew the Fauci family. Way back then everyone pronounced it the real Italian way, Fow-ooochi, not the americanized “Fowchi”.
She remembered when she was 13 years old, which would have been 1959 or thereabouts, the young Mr Fauci (who would have been about 18) had just gotten his driver’s license and a car, and would often be seen driving around the neighborhood. One day he ran over a dog, severely injuring it; when the police came, they had to shoot it to put it down. Reckless driving and indifference to the suffering of an animal.
Was he charged? Was he actually driving recklessly?
I’ve hit animals without speeding or driving recklessly. It happens. One second the deer is grazing on the side of the road, the next thing it is sliding across your hood, smashing your opposite quarter panel and bounding off into the woods.
