This is not The Onion or any form of spoof. This is real life, and it is happening today.
Amid a heatwave throughout most of Texas, The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT, is urgently asking Texas residents to conserve electricity because “it has projected a shortage in energy reserves Monday “with no market solution available.” Voluntary conservation is needed between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday.”

The problem, as the Texas power authorities have identified it, is outlined via NBC News:
According to ERCOT, factors driving the need for this important action by customers:
-
-
- Record high electric demand. The heat wave that has settled on Texas and much of the central United States is driving increased electric use. Other grid operators are operating under similar conservative operations programs as ERCOT due to the heatwave.
-
-
-
- Low wind. While solar power is generally reaching near-full generation capacity, wind generation is currently generating significantly less than what it historically generated in this time period. Current projections show wind generation coming in less than 10 % of its capacity.
-
Conservation notifications are issued when projected reserves may fall below 2300 MW for 30 minutes or more, according to ERCOT. (link)
Pres. Trump jokes about windmills in speech on energy: "All of a sudden it stops, the wind and the televisions go off, and your wives and husbands say, 'Darling, I want to watch Donald Trump on television tonight, but the wind stopped blowing." https://t.co/JsAo4rT8TM pic.twitter.com/H3ERYkZ5CR

ERCOT. Nominated for the Dipshit Ironic Name of the Year. Brilliant planning there, Governeur Abbottoir. What other infrastructure are you working on ruining? Voters want to know.
Heinz Field got renamed. I always preferred Three Rivers.
<Heinz Field got renamed…>
It will probably take a while for people to catch up on that name change 🙂
Got the catch up part too
There’s the Climate Pledge arena in Seattle. Use to be Seattle Center.
Heinz 57, because we all know that there are 57 genders, and most play in the NFL
Ha ha. Only fools swallow the green energy pill. Red or blue makes no difference.
I don’t remember Morpheus offering Neo the Green Pill option.
Those who weren’t killed by COVID malfeasance will get a second chance of dying from government run amok with malicious energy policies. Heat stoke, anyone? Maybe freezing to death when winter comes would be the next best opportunity to give ones all for the “New World Order”?
…and don’t forget malnutrition when food shortages hit…they are covering all bases
So, let me see if I understand the situation.
Not too long ago, Texas had an issue with its power grid.
Instead of fixing the grid, the leaders choose to hope for more wind.
Is that about right?
Nailed it.
Was that wind they got or just more political flatulence.
Same as last time. I believe it was did NOTHING but collect their checks for 11 months, write a report, and call it good.
They smoked a lot of hopium.
Maybe he can get all the ILLEGALS to blow on the turbines.
Bingo.. you get the door prize
what happened to the 8 coal fired plants the EPA offered Texas in 1997 and Perry singed off on and were never built?
Incorrect …and most of you here don’t know what you’re talking about.
Wind and solar power was dictated by Ercot board members from – wait for it- Cali, Mass, Mich and elsewhere.
That’s been fixed.
And there are more gas-powered back up plants that in Feb 2021.
Sundance, been reading you for over 7 years now and am sorely disappointed that you have allowed such outright falsehoods to be promulgated.
The ability to store power when wind is not blowing does not exist for Grid level. The technology is not there.
This is the real issue.
That was a pretty damn stupid idea then.
My father tells me that back in his day, the farm windmill provided power to their batteries that ran everything. Seems like a lack of battery storage.
That is for a farm, not 20 million AC units running full bore.
The Green Weenies are pretending they don’t know of such things. When battery and super cap technology merges and refines, we maybe getting close, but as of yet; NO BATTERIES!
MIT has been working on liquid metal battery technology since 2007. You don’t have to be an Electrochemist to understand the technology but it would help.
Donald Sadoway a prof. at MIT is credited as the inventor.
LMBC liquid metal battery corporation and others have been set up to market the batteries capable of storing energy from power lines.
Power can now be stored that is generated during off peak hours from all sources of generated power. It’s the Engineers not the politicians and bureaucRats that will solve this problem.
Mike, I followed MIT tech for many years, and have seen many hopeful battery technologies come and go.
A firm, A123 was founded on MIT tech that was supposed to vastly improve lithium cell charging rates.
A123 was incorporated and then went belly up in short order.
Then MIT rolled out sodium salt battery tech as the “big winner” for grid storage, and… Have not heard anything in years about sodium battery tech being applied anywhere.
What is the hold up? Venture capital problems? lack of ability to scale up the tech to commercially relevant levels? Gov’t REGULATION?
I would like to think our great tech minds will solve this problem, but remember, any new large tech infrastructure project needs Gov’t approvals at the local, state, and federal levels.
From observation over many years, POLITICIANS are among the most ignorant people when it comes to understanding tech. What happens when a POLITICIAN does not understand something? They seem to routinely make bad decisions. (perhaps a feature rather than a flaw?)
To boot, the new World bureaucrats at all levels will be motivated by warped NWO ideals to STYMIE any progress that helps us all survive comfortably.
Trust in our LEADERS to screw us every which way despite the best efforts of inventors.
Sorry not optimistic. Just running low on optimism at this time.
For a REAL and proven energy storage solution, simply pump water up hill into storage, and then when you need the energy, let the water run downhill to spin generator turbines. Pump it back up when you have excess energy to store.
The issue is 25% of the grid is wind turbines. Doesn’t work during the cold, doesn’t work in excess heat. This is Texas, there is always excess heat.
It is the issue with all “alternative” power. Battery technology isn’t there yet, nor what is there affordable.
The scale just does not exist at grid level. In 2010, all of the skids were closet size hooked up to small shed like buildings. I know a ton of battery engineers, waste heat transfer engineers, turbomachinery engineers, and nobody in the world has created anything like the scale needed. We are not even 10 years out from the technology. Anyone who says otherwise is lying and or griffting. Doesn’t exist in Germany, University, China, nowhere. It exists in Star Trek.
An off grid house is not a grid powering a city, suburbs or anything else.
Global warming (excuse me, I mean Climate Change) is a fool’s errand that targets average people to drive them into living as people did in the 17 century. In fact that is the globalists whole plan- save resources for themselves while the unwashed languish in a hell created for them by the elites. They convinced liberals that green policies this would be good for the planet (and they may be) but they never discuss the cost to the average person i.e. live like peasants off the crumbs they deem to hand out. It is an undeniable fact that fossil fuels allowed the rise in quality of life, increased food production, life saving inventions, etc., etc. There is no question improvements in efficiency and use of clean generation of electricity could bring added advancements but this needs to be done over 50+ years not jammed down our throats in a few years. Those responsible for the green new deal, covid tyranny, etc. must be stopped and brought to justice NOW! There is no time to be wasted endeavor. Arrest the Bidens, Obamas, the many government and corporate officials and all those behind the scenes scheming our society’s demise.
Son- Communism, working incognito through Environmentalism, successfully turned Environmentalism into a religion in the early 2000’s. The main goal of this new faux environmental movement has been to normalize the acceptance of “climate change” and to gain more control over every day American lives. Sadly, this movement has been extremely successful.
We are now witnessing the negative consequences of this lunacy. Schools have been the primary vehicle to further indoctrinate young members of this movement. Their firm, cult like and unchanging belief system conveniently attacks our own civilization. The compelling propaganda has played a major role in frightening an entire generation about the future. Now children are increasingly depressed by not only Covid, but also by their participation in the destruction of the planet. They have become so brainwashed and cowed by their peers that they no longer dare to question any statement made about catastrophic climate change.
The most dangerous globalists are international in scope and power. Solving the problem in the US does not solve the whole problem; thus, it is much more difficult. Very seldom in history does mankind ORGANIZE enough to recognize the real danger and act to eliminate that danger.
Very well said SOL. Thank you for that.
I’ve played with wind generators. (Winter and Spring in SWFL). They suck.
I’ve had backup solar for about 15 years and have dropped a ton of money to replace batteries that just sit there float charging. Solar sucks.
I have 2 gas generators at the ready for hurricanes as soon as they pass by, and a whole bunch of ethanol free (REC GAS) gas for them. They work. They charge the solar/wind batteries. (and tri-fuel/propane generators suck, so, don’t go there)
I’m sick of delusional leftists that still have to use Velcro closers on their shoes telling me about power.
:::Spit:::
Gas generators suck, too, if you don’t take care of them. Leave the gas in ’em too long and it’ll varnish. I have a dual-fuel generator that has never had a drop of gas in it, propane only. I change the oil on schedule, and it has lasted for years. (Central Fla.)
Along with the deindustrialization of the last several decades in the US, there’s been a general loss of common sense that one acquires by making and tinkering and fixing things.
The original US electric power system was built for simple long-lasting reliability at reasonable cost, based on a lot of experience and common sense along with the engineering.
The alternative energy systems mostly lack these features:
Simple, long-lasting, reliable, reasonable cost including long-term costs.
Time for the Texans to take the cue from Europe, call Nuclear and Natural Gas as green energy and move on!! And they would be factually correct- Nuclear provides base load including during the night hours where there is no sunlight and natural gas balances the fluctuations in wind and solar generated power. Without nuclear and natural gas there would be no renewables.
Yeah America is ready for EV’s.
Imagine the traffic jams when cars just stop in the middle of the freeways? You can’t just call AAA to bring you a gallon of gas to start your car again can you? What a nightmare!
Those pushing these renewable power sources have been told over and over again by engineers that they must have a sufficient amount of on-demand power to keep the grid stable.
Neil Oliver nailed it. They’re not grooming us to go green. They’re grooming us to go without.
NWO is grooming us for a dirt nap where the temperature is a constant 55. FJB
Dead men use no kilowatts!
The problem is not the “grid” per se, it is simply the sources of generation when demand is greatest in both the state and region. And that in extreme heat and cold the wind doesn’t blow . Consistently shuttering coal fired plants and not building new gas fired plants for peak generation is a killer. The cold snap was also an anomaly since it froze unwinterized (norm for that latitude) and natgas valve systems froze up.
The country is infested with with huge solar and wind farms that are hideous eyesores occupying enormous chunks of land but we don’t have a few acres for gasoline refineries or nuclear energy’s plants. All by design and all about an agenda.
It takes approx 1,500 acres of solar panels to generate approx. 200 MW of power, enough to ‘power’ about 40,000 homes.
An efficient and relatively ‘clean’ gas-turbine power plant to power the same 40K homes is the footprint of around two large-box home improvement store sites, and is close to 100% on-demand reliable and has a much longer service life that the ‘made in chyna’ solar panels.
This country had better WTFU and come to its senses soon!
This is the point where people don’t give a crap about “climate change”. To all those northeasterners laughing right now, wait until winter when you don’t have heat.
I have lived in Texas well over 40yrs, this is just normal summer weather. It gets hot in Texas during the summer.
I used to enjoy driving through west Texas on hot summer nights windows down with a view of billions of stars. Nowadays nothing but a bunch blinking red lights. Driving back through the same area in the daytime I noticed a lot of the windmills were not turning.
Power loses in power lines going to large cities are outrageous.
A lady who works at a local cabinet factory told me that on Friday three female co-workers fainted from the heat while at work.
That is frightening, especially considering the machinery and tools that are in use at that facility.
Clot shot, or no?
I don’t know, but I highly doubt that they would have been vaxxed. Only about 48% of the population here have had even one dose. Of course, that looks low because now the little bitty kids have been thrown into the mix.
These women suffered from the heat but didn’t have strokes. Thank Goodness.
The weather has been dangerously hot for about 3 weeks.
I still don’t understand why liberals are so enamored with wind power. Apart from the reliability issues (because the wind doesn’t always blow), they are a visual blight on the landscape, covering thousands of acres of once pristine land. I thought liberals were all about saving the environment, not covering it with thousands of eyesores that create noise pollution and kill hundreds of thousands of birds every year.
Libtards have never had to produce anything but hot air, in well-ventilated air-conditioned university classrooms. I guess they think the air conditioning comes auto-magically.
You are so right!
Windmills are UGLY.
Nothing eco friendly about them at all.
I call them bird shredders.
“I still don’t understand why liberals are so enamored with wind power.”
well because………….
And every time you choose wind power thousands of birds die.
Welcome to the “New World” – Ha, it’s already “old news” for us here in South Africa. We have already endured 2 years (or is it more now?) of rolling blackouts. We are currently on “stage 6” which means we are out for 2 hrs, three times a day, and are constantly reminded that “it could be worse”.
It’s become so “normal” now that I suspect it’s a study on just how much can be taken away – without the population losing their minds. Surprisingly, like most things here, we just plod along (F. foreward) for the most part, and make a plan – having long exhausted the “who’s to blame” thinking. What is plain as day though, is it’s all part of the PLAN.
As they say about Texas weather, stick around it’ll change! I live in Austin. Today was predicted to be 109. It reached 101 at my house when Mother Nature kicked in and created a storm out west of here Winds blew in and temperature dropped to 90 at 3:35! Mother Nature is too fickle for “green” energy. Build nuclear!
Where are the genius liberals going to keep cool?
Government buildings, government-funded academic buildings, big corporate funded buildings…
They don’t really work for a living so are far from small-medium private businesses. They live in and near big Democrat cities which use gas, oil, coal, and nuclear powered generating plants.
IOW, they don’t have any problems b/c they don’t follow the rules they make for us.
How did you get so lucky … We in New Braunfels would love some rain
Agree – build nuclear!
And since they are the ONLY state that ISN’T connected to the NATIONAL power grid, their problems are the perfect example to put the lie to the “green energy” BS which would NOT fix an imaginary problem even if it wasn’t imaginary.
Unlike pols in other states who can get away with virtue signaling to their propagandized idiocracies because they can suck power via the national grid from states that aren’t using “green” (GAK!) energy when their green garbage inevitably fails to deliver (no wind, no sun, snow on the solar panels…), Texas can’t.

looks like you’ve had a little to much to think , sir
“Wind Drought” not just Texas
https://www.nationalreview.com/news/german-energy-prices-jump-due-to-wind-drought/
German energy prices surged on Monday due to insufficient wind generation.
The jump comes amid already crippling inflation affecting household commodities, such as food and gas, in Europe and the United States. On Monday, power reached the highest price level since early March because of a projected deficit in wind output for the next few days, Bloomberg reported.
Deliberate?
Low wind high heat cloudy skies, historically at this time?
History and weather should not be tied together. Everyday year and century is different, God made it that way.
Take the North West, they were under cloud cover from Oct.2021 to mid June 2022. They just now have seen the Sun for 6 straight days? Last year blazing hot from June to Aug. The greenies are in for a rude awakening.
After this I saw four angles standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth, so that no wind blow on the earth or on the sea or on any tree. Rev. 7:1
WAR,PLAGUE and FAMINE
The worst spring weather in 70+ years
Yeah the cold weather up here caused crop failure for my carrots. The April snow made them think it was winter. The tops grew to four feet and the roots only 1 inch.
Well they’re continually putting their solar shield up in the sky in the northwest, so I blame them that on man, not God.
Yep, my sister live in Oregon and she says those plane are always creating clouds. She sits on her porch and watches the planes (normal) their contrails dissipate behind the plane and then there is those plane that spews out tails that never end and then boom heavy cloud cover. Rain is good, but to much rain is just as bad as no rain.
She says they need the rain (water), but this is crazy. And she says that the local news keep talking about drought. while the rain was pouring down. She says she cannot keep from laughing.
Look at Bill Gates and you no who to blame.
I have posted on this quite often including this morning on the presidential thread. Texas has installed about 35,391 MW of installed wind generation capacity (7/10/2022 Wind Integration Report ERCOT rpt.00013105.0000000000000000.20220711.080853153.Wind Integration Report 07-10-22.pdf) which is about 30% of our total capacity. At 1:00 PM CDT, wind was generating 746 MW of electricity or about 2.1% of its installed capacity. This report, generated daily, provides a great visual of just how unreliable wind power is.
Earlier this year, I downloaded (ERCOT and the Energy Information Administration [EIA]) the hourly electricity demand data for Texas along with the electricity generated by source (e.g., wind, solar, natural gas, etc.). During 2021, wind had 32,018 MW of installed capacity. In 2021, there 424 hours where our demand exceeded 65,000 MW. In 53% (225 hours), wind generated less than 25% of its installed capacity. In 17.7% (75 hours) wind generated less than 10% of its installed capacity. Wind fails catastrophically when demand is highest. Today is not an anomaly.
The problem started under Rick Perry when we started seeing government support for these alternate sources of energy. Today, for the first time ever, I am actually seeing some reporting on this. In the past, wind problems were never mentioned. This morning on the Weather Channel they actually did reporting and indicated wind failure was the cause of this. Our local news stations actually have mentioned this for the first time. When I show my liberal friends the data some actually start to understand. Unfortunately, it is going to take suffering and shortages like this before people wake up.
An additional note, in 2021 there were 10 hours that had an hourly wind power rate less than the 746 MW at 1:00 today.
Rhetorical question, does the wind ever really “fail”?
“The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes.” John 3:8
Depending on the wind is foolish.
BRING BACK TRUMP’S AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BECAUSE TRUMP’S AMERICA IS AMERICA’S AMERICA!
Problem is, liberals hate America, and want to “fundamentally change” it.
Friendly reminder Texas is purple, not red.
You can thank the Republican Party of Texas for that. Early Primaries, scumbag RINO candidates, spoiler candidates against strong MAGA or Conservatives. Voter enthusiasm amongst Republicans is tepid, given our choices. We vote against absolute ruin and desolation, only to get graft and dithering on issues of importance. “Vote for us! We’ll get ’em next time!”
If the Green Weenies truly believed in their cause, shouldn’t the Statehouses and the US Capitol Building be the first to go on ALL renewable, to serve as an example to we Deplorables. Also, their spacious green spaces and the Capitol Mall should have the necessary solar panels, windmills, wiring, converters, construction cranes and MSM booths that make all that so good.
(Have you ever smelled sweating politicians? Not good!)
SOLID points!
Gov. Abbott should have stepped down last year after the big freeze when his green energy love affair with China and the green globalists put all Texans in harms way. He did nothing to help Texans when the grid operator complied with illegal federal mandates to shut down the gas fired peaking plants in west Texas that were coming to the rescue. He is a paper tiger and needs to resign. This green garbage has no place in Texas and any Texan landowners and China loving windmill developers who feed off the public trough of green energy subsidies need to be held accountable along with Abbott.
but ya’all run out and get ya’all an electric car
…. and charge those cars on fairy dust because you sure aren’t going to charge them using the grid.
I live in NY not far from the Indian Point power plant.
Up till about a year ago, IP used to supply 25% of hell hole NY City’s electricity. Our former Guv, Killer Cuomo, decided along with the River Keeper that IP had to be shut down for some political reasons that nobody could comprehend.
The nuclear power that was generated was clean, safe, secure and vital as the company that used to own it said.
As I drove by the plant the other day, it looked the same as always, sitting there on the banks of the Hudson River. Nothing had changed, all the same power lines still up. Somehow they are trying to de-commission it at great cost.
Rumor has it that the powers that be have decided that maybe they should try to re-commission it ASAP.
We don’t have any windmills that could even pretend to make up that 25% shortfall. No solar either.
It does look like it might happen. I wonder if Texas has anything similar.
T Boone Pickens was the original medicineshow man for wind energy in Texas. When congress failed to subsidize his cure all panhandle of Texas wind boondoggle…..he drifted off like a tumbleweed. All hat no cattle is very descriptive of a great many ” cures”.
Typical PDJT humor, and very funny.
Abbott….soon to be liberal..
Cause he sure acts like one…
yeh it’s miserable here in the Dallas subs. At 4 p.m. one of the personal WX stations in my neighborhood is showing 105 degrees– “feels like” is sitting at 113. Going outside is like crawling inside an oven.
One can feel that heat through your destription.
Tip: Suck on ice cubes to stay cool. Keep them nearby in a cooler or thick foam chest.
We use evaporative cooling vests in summer when outdoors doing gardening or horseback riding. In our typical SW Utah 100+ degree days they last about 90 minutes before they need redunking in a pail of water. Work very well. I find the models that zip high up to the neck (no V) do the best. I also have a similar evaporative neck wrap and skull cap for under my riding helmet.
What this means is this: The cost of wind per KWh is 900%+ higher. Basically Texas is 8/100 of the capacity for the same price. This is why solar/wind is so expensive. You are told cost is $1 per kWh but get 0.1 kWh. This means cost is 10 times.
“Darling I would like to watch tv this evening, but there is no wind!”
He was “fact checked”…LOL! Now where are the fact checkers?
Well, at least everyone will already have their electric vehicles already charged before the 2-8 window, right?
Do we run our AC at night to cool the house, or do we charge our electric cars?
Im torn
The plan is that people will leave these areas that need air conditioning to thrive. Back to natural state
Question where this information is coming from … We live in New Braunfels TX, 30 min from San Antonio, an hour from Austin and have received NO alerts/requests for conservation as we did in summer 2019 and 2020. our local power provider has no alerts on its website and I have received no text alerts (am on the list for such)
In Feb 2021 we had power for approx 9 hours per day and got regular alerts about rolling blackouts.
Sure this isn’t a Beto misinformation? He’s got lots of billboards in this stretch of TX claiming Texans won’t have power this summer. Also my family in Houston tells me everyone is encouraged to be mindful, but no rationing is in effect.
For us in New Braunfels,we are at 3 weeks and counting of 100+ degree days and have been under severe water rationing for over a month … Think we’d know about power rationing
Everybody go outside and blow.
What if no one showed up to do essential maintenance work on the windmills because they wanted to work from home?
…..Or if the cost of diesel fuel prohibited them from filling up their truck.
It’s that darned Putin’s fault. He sucked the Permian Basin dry last night while no one was watching.
The only real answer will be nuclear power and lots of it.
Maybe. Randolph Air Force Base can do a flyby. So, they can get their extra 6 hours? Maybe two flybys.
Obviously the electric grid is failing in many areas. We’re in the process of installing a propane fueled whole house standby generator. The question is when are the green meanies going to go after propane?
All legislators who support the “Green New Deal” should have their power shut off in their home and office, all their electronic devices, and charging for their electric vehicles, ANYTIME THERE IS A POWER GRID SHUT DOWN OR REDUCTION IN ELECTRICITY ANYWHERE IN THE US, FOR LACK OF WIND OR SUN POWER! Deal with that for a summer or winter and let us know how it is working for you if your Green Fantasy is good for everyone.
I presume the sun shines in Texas so where is all that “green energy” from the sun that should be powering the homes and businesses?? Oh, you need thousands and thousands of acres of land for that and the panels are mostly made in China and are very expensive.
Gee, I wonder what else is in abundance in Texas that could be used to generate electricity? Will they ever find the solution? /s
Is the power that is supplied to EV charging stations cut back during these urgent times of ‘shared community sacrifice’?
But get rid of your evil Internal combustion carbon polluter and buy an EV, all of you!
Big Groper is watching!
Pretell, WHAT do they intend to make the TIRES for their electric cars out of?
Electric cars, windmills have moving parts like gears, and shafts with bushings and bearings.
WHAT, pretell do they intend to lubricate all those moving parts with?
In short, what the HELL are they THINKING?!!
Whale oil! Back to the future.
It would cure whale farts!
Moby Dick is not a whale.
It is a venereal disease in the OBiden administration.
They do not know how to “think?” Follow the money, greed & pure evil. Tells you everything you need to know.
Rubber comes from trees naturally. Oil does seep out of the ground naturally. Metal parts can be made in solar powered forges. All these things can be brought together by bicycles and sail boats.
They’re just stalling for time until they can kill off enough of us via clot shots and starvation that it will no longer really matter. Whoever survives the die off will have to survive off the land like aboriginals… (IMHO – that’s their long term plan…)
Weather modification is a thing . There are treatys on it.

“The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. …We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society. …In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons…who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. A novel idea or insight, usually one that seems to explain a complex process in a simple or straightforward manner, gains rapid currency in the popular discourse by its very simplicity and by its apparent insightfulness. Its rising popularity triggers a chain reaction within the social network: individuals adopt the new insight because other people within the network have adopted it, and on its face it seems plausible. The reason for this increased use and popularity of the new idea involves both the availability of the previously obscure term or idea, and the need of individuals using the term or idea to appear to be current with the stated beliefs and ideas of others, regardless of whether they in fact fully believe in the idea that they are expressing. Their need for social acceptance, and the apparent sophistication of the new insight, overwhelm their critical thinking.
