This is not The Onion or any form of spoof. This is real life, and it is happening today.
Amid a heatwave throughout most of Texas, The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT, is urgently asking Texas residents to conserve electricity because “it has projected a shortage in energy reserves Monday “with no market solution available.” Voluntary conservation is needed between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday.”

The problem, as the Texas power authorities have identified it, is outlined via NBC News:
According to ERCOT, factors driving the need for this important action by customers:
-
-
- Record high electric demand. The heat wave that has settled on Texas and much of the central United States is driving increased electric use. Other grid operators are operating under similar conservative operations programs as ERCOT due to the heatwave.
-
-
-
- Low wind. While solar power is generally reaching near-full generation capacity, wind generation is currently generating significantly less than what it historically generated in this time period. Current projections show wind generation coming in less than 10 % of its capacity.
-
Conservation notifications are issued when projected reserves may fall below 2300 MW for 30 minutes or more, according to ERCOT. (link)
Pres. Trump jokes about windmills in speech on energy: "All of a sudden it stops, the wind and the televisions go off, and your wives and husbands say, 'Darling, I want to watch Donald Trump on television tonight, but the wind stopped blowing." https://t.co/JsAo4rT8TM pic.twitter.com/H3ERYkZ5CR

Meanwhile, this past week in Massachusetts a local community is demolishing a 2 MW turbine deemed a public health & safety nuisance.
The equipment required to demolish this turbine operates on fossil fuel.
The dirty little wind power secret is that wind turbines rely on fossil fuels from manufacturing, construction, operation and decommissioning.
Wind power is nothing more than a wealth transfer scheme – a boondoggle for the ages!
That boondoggie has rabies!
And don’t forget “disposal”, which is an environmental issue. Those large non-biodegradable blades include a toxic resin that simply needs to be buried without cutting it up. Dumps across the country are being filled with used turbine blades.
Not to worry. Those blades are only 100 feet long and weigh a couple tons each. And there are three of ’em.
And lest we forget, the windmills take up untold acres of forest and arable land, and kill millions or more birds and bats — essential pollinators and insect eaters in our ecosystem.
Cutting down oxygen producing, C02 eliminating trees for toxic turbines, got it.
And a way to help build China’s wealth.
After all, that is Washington’s #1 concern with Creepy Joe at the wheel. He sure as hell isn’t concerned about making the lives of American citizens any better.
Gotta mine the materials, too.
What about all those electric cars? Do they get to plug them in? What a bunch of unnecessary chaos had they just used some common sense on their energy resources. This is happening in TX? A red state? Full of oil?? Wowsa.
Obviously a self inflicted wound from climate alarmism.
When the wind doesn’t blow…
Wind power blows 🙂
Also have to shut the turbines down if the wind blows too strong.
Section Two:
When the wind blows too strong…
Wind power blows 🙂
You were looked for on page one. Glad to see you make an appearance.
Just think of all those billion$ our vaunted reps sent to Ukraine for what?exactly..
That’s some potential ‘lectric infrastructure funding right there.. but no, let’s piss it on corrupt proxy warmongering instead.
C’mon, man. Get your priorities straight. Hunter’s late with the next 10% check to The Big Guy.
Obama shut down, I think it was 12, coal fired plants in east Texas,
Now they are putting up massive (thousands of acres) solar farms.
Abbott is taking care of us.
Did you forget the SARC/
It will take 135,000 acres of solar to create 7300Mw. That will run a city the size of Los Angeles…roughly 4 million people.
Simply not enough solar can be put up. Diversified portfolios of wind, solar and petroleum products is the best bet.
That math assumes 24/7 sunshine. On the planet where I reside, that does not happen.
That 135k acres is about 211 square miles of land. Just Saying.
LA County is over 8M w greater LA being over 17M….better do an adjustment on your numbers, they are a few decades off
Texas creates more “renewable” (wind + solar) energy than all remaining 49 States combined.
In fact, Texas creates more “renewable” energy than any other Country on Earth. Just drive through Pampa, TX. Wind farms in all directions as far as the eye can see.
And ugly as sin, to boot. So much for preserving the beauty of planet.
And not in their backyards.
JustMe: do you have a source for these claims to share with us?
Try this: https://smartasset.com/data-studies/states-leading-the-charge-on-renewable-energy-2022
And this: https://www.nrdc.org/experts/robert-harding/these-states-are-winning-clean-energy
And this: https://cleanpower.org/facts/state-fact-sheets/
There are plenty more accurate sources; it took me all of three minutes to find these.
You need over 1ooo turbines to run a city the size of Los Angeles…4 million people.
I use L.A., because it is one of the largest cities in the country.
Creating more of something that doesn’t work isn’t something to brag about.
It worked for Obama for eight years ….
And yet… power outages ki//ed 57 people in 2021 & the ones that survived are being slow roasted in 2022.
🤦♀️
Texas is number 1 one by far in wind energy
https://www.power-technology.com/analysis/us-wind-energy-by-state/
Wind mill farms are a grotesque blot on the landscape.
ugly and worthless
that is the definition of leftist utopia
Gov. Abbott is a bushie.
. . . . and an IDIOT! Which is why I regularly call him Abbott the Idiot (and, no, I DID NOT vote for him in the primary).
I seem to recall the EPA forced Texas to shut down some of their coal powered generation. Maybe they should take that to court again in light of the recent Supreme Court decision.
ERCOT has a BoD & they’re regulated by the TX legislature & the Public Utilities Commission whose board is appointed by the guvnah.
Retired Magistrate here: How sad; when I think of Texas I think of all those oil wells and an abundance of energy. I never realized how much Texas relied on windmills and solar until the “big freeze” that hit Texas last year.
The situation is extremely dangerous for everyone, but especially seniors. I am 74 and can’t take the heat like I used to; rather than sweating I just get really red and hot. Really have to watch it when I am outside and stay hydrated.
Don’t know how it is in Texas, but many of the new homes up here (Ohio) don’t even have windows that open; they are fixed and the occupants are totally dependent on the electrical grid for cooling. Even if houses in Texas do have operable windows, if there is no wind, it won’t do any good and the air that you would be letting in would be like a blast furnace.
Fortunately, we have big trees surrounding our house and I have light blocking drapes at all the windows. We keep our house at 75 so the air usually doesn’t come on until evening. Of course, we are not experiencing temperatures over 100; ours are holding in the mid 80’s to the low 90’s. We also had much needed rain (about 4 inches) several days ago which helped the flowering plants and most importantly the corn and beans.
We have our share of windmills; however, most of our electricity is from coal fired and natural gas powered plants with several nuclear plants still operating.
My prayers are with the people in Texas.
I imagine population growth in free Texas has contributed to Demand.
I drive through Austin every week. It seems that there are more non-Texas car plates in the parking lot than cars with Texas plates.
California, Oregon, Washington state mostly. But, I see a lot of New York and East Coast plates, too.
These out of staters moved to a Blue City to be with their kind. Ignorant!
Well it is Austin…
And buses full of illegal alien squatters.
Austin sucks.
I-35 at 5pm is quite an example.
Al those 2 million illegal aliens.
…and lobbyists.
So far no issues with respect to reliability. But if we are going to have energy reliability issues in TX might as well live in northern California where if you lose electricity at least it won’t kill you because the weather is rarely above 85.
Just a comment on my experience re: light blocking drapes vs something better. I tried everything on my big south windows to cut the heat coming in — multiple layers, light blocking etc. and all that didn’t work as well as — my daughter had worked at Linens ‘n Things that went out of business and I ended up with a big pile of red sheers. I took them and “gathered” them on the sewing machine so there was a lot of fabric there and hung them with clips and rings on a rod. They are in vertical folds about 4-5 inches deep which undoubtedly acts like insulation. I stick my hand in those folds and the fabric closest to the window is hot, but running my hand across the curtains facing the room, absolutely no heat coming in. I was so surprised — and red??? no less, instead of white light reflecting.
I just checked and the current temperature in Austin is 100 degrees. But the humidity is 34%. If you were there and went outside to sit in the shade it would be tolerable. I was in China Lake California some years ago in August and the temperature was 110 degrees, but almost no humidity. In the shade it was fine and at night, it was actually on the cold side. That is in the Mohave desert. Here in NE North Carolina where I live it has been in the upper 80s and low 90s for the past week and humidity in the 80-90 percent range, so really uncomfortable outside even with a breeze.
August in China Lake and 110 degrees you must have had a cold spell…..I hail from that area since 1973 and it is in the 120s regular almost every day in August most summers……no women in the area I am from until the 50’s until they got evaporative coolers there…they used to build 3 sided porch houses and soak a sheet in water, drag their cot onto the porch at night, and put their sheet over them to cool down and sleep at night
And they want everybody to go out and buy electric cars! The stupid is strong with these people!
Ultimately they want personal transportation to be unaffordable / impractical / unavailable to the little people.
We are to move to multi-family cubicles in dense urban zones.
Exactly!
With no weapons to defend yourself or your property.
That’s not happening, much as Peter Pan O’Rourke might wish it so.
Not happening YET.
I see someone has read the Great Reset/ New World Order playbook. Too bad more people couldn’t have seen this coming before we foolishly allowed them to rezone our (formerly) residential neighborhoods to install thousands of dense, multi-family, *open borders* cubicles.
Build it and they will come.
Don’t ever mistake “stupid” for “malicious.” Lefty failures are not accident or ignorance.
“Climate change has made Texas heat both hotter and longer lasting. The average daily minimum and maximum temperatures in Texas have both increased by 2.2 degrees Fahrenheit in the last 125 years. The state just saw its hottest December on record since 1889.”
Because CO2 levels were REALLY bad in 1889. Do they even hear themselves?
and it’s all a lie since the ‘record keepers’ have adjusted all past temps downwards to make today appear to be a “crisis”, because they know that there has been no warming that they predicted
I did some research several years ago on their temp comparisons and found out many of their thermometers are placed in places that give false high readings like between tall buildings, next to large parking lots, etc. These places absorb heat like a sponge and skew the true temp A LOT.
And those parking lots and tall buildings were not there 125 years ago.
Must be caused by all that Dutch farmer nitrogen ….
In 1889, the electric generator was 44 years old technology and the windmill about 2044 years old……
Not a single wind turbine was installed in 1889…..a fine opportunity missed for sure. /S
we are entering a solar MINIMUM with LESS sunspots and lower solar radiation….there is a cold spell a coming
windmill in jersey broken for years costing local government millions
Why Bayonne’s wind turbine doesn’t spin – Hudson Reporter
Let me guess…. It stopped spinning once all the subsidies were harvested.
Palm Springs, CA is a millionaire’s playground….they poured their “development funds” into windmills there….they fly in on their private jets to private airfields……go to a 1-hour tour of the wind turbine fields……..hit the links, go for a sumptuous 5-star meal and fly back out on their private jet….all of it is a tax write off as a business expense and gets alternate energy subsidies
Well, fire up those whole house generators if you can afford the fuel.
Have to afford the generator first, rah.
We just had a quote for one, 13 grand. We’ll have to shop around because right now that’s not in the cards.
They are wonderful things, I grant you. For many or even most, these days that is an incredible amount. There is simply no way to know how deep the recession/depression will be, how many jobs will be lost, etc. All things to consider…
We have a whole house generator powered with propane. HVAC pulls too much power and was not able to connect to the generator.
My neighbors and I both looked into natural gas whole house generators recently. I have issues with siting one where I need it so will probably go with another option. My neighbors had theirs installed last week. It was a good choice.
Hey, whatever it takes to get to renewable energy.
Meanwhile the USAF cannot get Jet aircraft off the runway using Lithium batteries.
Also, apparently Ford’s highly touted electric truck was only able to haul its load 85 miles before it gave up the ghost and needed a complete recharging.
How did Greenie lunatics come to infect our whole governance with their rancid disease?
I saw the video. By my calculations, that EV truck cost an equivalent of $3.80/gallon in electricity costs to drive that 85 miles. This is a function of the cost of electricity and the poor efficiency of the vehicle burning through a lot of electricity to meet even that meager range.
Electricity rates at fast chargers average 33 cents and up to $1.00/kWH.
Dreams of Green glory look more like hyperemesis.
A bit over 50% of the American electorate invited them in.
Ignorance has a price.
Experience pays the bill.
So the Ford commercial where a whole house is being framed using only an electric F-150 is bogus?? Who knew??
We cut the cord so haven’t seen that ad. But if they said it would, I believe them!! (sarc in the extreme)
So how’s that Green New Deal workin’ out for ya?
So much for sustainable air conditioning …
I call it “The Green Raw Deal”.
Many years ago, my them electric company, BGE (Baltimore Gas and Electric) pointed out that power plants are built to maintain power at peak levels and if people distributed their electric use, especially of high usage items, to times other than a normal work day (i.e. weekends, before 7 a.m. and after 7 p.m.), they could build fewer plants and buy less at peak prices. It makes perfect sense if you aren’t counting on direct solar for power, so I set my dishwasher to run in the middle of the night (4 hour delay option), do laundry after 8 p.m., cook after 7 or use a crock pot, etc. The news report I heard was asking people to delay things like this along with setting the thermostat adegree ir two higher. .
Good luck to all of them. I know this heat is dangerous to some. I don’t like the high humidity we have had lately but it’s worth it for no snow. Thank heavens for ceiling fans.
My son was an EMT in San Antonio for a few years.
During an ice storm a few years back the power was out for an extended time due to the inability of the wind turbines to operate caked in ice…and in freezing temps.
Wind turbines don’t operate if it is too cold, or too hot, if it is too windy or if there is no wind at all …
Bottom line: We need dispatchable energy sources not these boondoggles.
Indeed. The ideal conditions for these windmills is rare. And the maintenance and repairs from ideal operating conditions isn’t exactly a few adjustments and some chump change. Catastrophic failures aren’t exactly far and few between, either.
also need ELECTRIC power to spin them when they are in standby status and alternate generators (typically natural gas but could be another fuel source) as backups when they are online….these backup generators are an ADDED expense over and above the fairy dust and unicorn farts
I feel so sorry for the elderly and families with young children that have a very hard time managing in the hot humid Texas climate.
EPIC FAIL, all y’all.
Went through this last year. Supposedly, improvements were to be made. Obviously, the improvements made things worse.
Uh, yeah, usually when a hot air system moves in, there is no wind. Wind happens when two different air temperatures meet. Farmers know this.
When it is very hot and when it is very cold, the wind does not blow. They call those stationary high pressure fronts, and stationary cold fronts.
Green energy kills. That was the intent.
A couple of weeks ago, Jacob Dreizin noted in an interview that there has been much less wind than normal across the globe.
Made me think of Revelation 7:1.
And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.
Fortunately my little town in West Texas is not on ERCOT. I live 30 miles west of Lubbock which just went on ERCOT. Lubbock spent like a billion $$ or something ridiculous to join because they didn’t keep up with infrastructure needs. Electric costs in the city are very high. It’s mind blowing. So far, the grid our town is on is holding. It is sunny and 100 degrees currently.
I couldn’t believe Lubbock proceeded with the change over after the big freeze took out the rest of the state.
My hometown. Used to be rock solid conservative. What on earth happened??
still pretty conservative but like the rest of the state we have a lot of outsiders moving in. My sister just recently moved back after 17 years in Alaska. Was visiting a church and the pastor said the area is being targeted – probably due to the fact Lubbock is a sanctuary city for the unborn – and it’s one of the last really conservative areas of the state.
For that move to a sanctuary city, I was so grateful. Lubbock has some big hearted people. Glad to hear it.
me neither…and sky high rates to boot! I see people complaining on FB about their bills all the time
Out here in East Texas on the border with Louisiana, we are on the Southwest Power Pool instead of ERCOT. I used to be an ERCOT snob when I lived in Houston. Not anymore.
Time for Texas residents to let Abbott and the rest of the Rinos know what they think of the green energy scam. Green energy will never be viable. I’m sick of hearing timid GOP types say oh, we’re just not there yet and almost apologize for fossil fuels. We’ll never be there. It’s simply not viable.
DeSantis IS THE REAL LEADER of any gov in the USA. Hands down.
He can and has led Florida; he can lead the USA……
DeSantis IS THE REAL LEADER of any govt in the USA. Hands down.
He can and has led Florida; he can lead the USA……
No, he can’t lead the USA if the left is out to eat him alive. Evil will attack him from every angle just as it did real President Trump.
The left will attack ANY successful conservative patriot who runs for high office. So maybe we should just shut up and go home, not waste our energy fighting these cock-a-roaches?
Well.. maybe we should lay the groundwork for fifty states to supply MAGA governors like DeSantis who can thumb their noses at the likes of Biden. States have enormous power if they will only use it.
Then a MAGA PRESIDENT would be the icing on the cake.
deSantis has shown repeatedly how to nullify federal power. Just do it!
His leadership lies in defying federal overreach by standing firm on Constitutional ground. If more States could take the lead of deSantis and the FL legislature, federal power would soon be nullified.
He has shown the way. What excuse do the other red state governors have now? DC is wholly corrupt. It must be dismantled. Trump knows how to navigate those waters. deSantis understands the permanent solution to DC tyranny – which lies in the hands of the States.
100% agree.
There is NO excuse for R Govs to sit on their hands and DO NOTHING.
OUR congress does that. Fed level is nothing more than a big, costly, lie….
Florida is the old South Carolina.
In one of my emails to the inadequate Abbott, I said that with election year coming up all he had to do was govern like DeSantis, and he’d walk it.
Crickets.
DeSantis is still mostly untested from the savage Uniparty and holds some Leftists views…..he is coming along but is not ready for prime time yet….I would have like to have seen him hit election integrity a lot heavier than he has with the closeness of his election to the fraudulent Left
I have…multiple times on this issue and others.
Never got so much as a form thank you letter.
You weren’t really expecting them to respond, were you? The bastards are too busy selling you out to care what you think.
Yes, actually I was. If only in an acknowledgment of my email.
The selling out is a fait accompli.
Abbott knows – we have to somehow figure out a way to make him care! We certainly don’t want the beto bum.
So . . . Abbott won the 1 MAR 2022 primary, probably because Texas has an open primary. He did not get my vote because of his stupid shutdown orders, he renews the public health disaster declaration every 30 days.
Legislators have sent him a letter begging him to stop ordering vaxxxxes for youngsters, and to stop vaxxxing children in Texas Another reason to understand what an ignorant ideologue he is… this and climate change. RINO extraordinaire.
CUT OFF ALL air/a-c to capitol hill, WH and ALL govt offices
Let the tree huggers and climate nazis BURN IN HELL……
So us Texans are going to freeze in cold winters and now sweat in hot summers because windmills don’t work in extreme weather conditions of hot or cold??? Who knew? I’ve turned off all my lights but I’m not turning off my AC!! Currently it’s 100 degrees and feels like 109 and will only get higher later this afternoon. Meanwhile in Texas and offshore Louisiana there are significant oil and gas reserves in the ground not being developed and produced in order to “save the planet”!! What we Texans need is saved from the globalist fools in the White House and Congress that believe the climate change hoax and are transitioning the country from fossil fuel energy to nothing that works!!! At my age if my power goes off I will have to go to my son’s house and hope his backup generator is working!!! Northeast all you fools who voted for ChiCom Joe and hate President Trump are going to freeze your asses off this winter when you can’t buy any heating oil so don’t gloat that Texas is struggling to meet it’s energy needs!!!
Agree. Doing same.
Tomorrow is forecast to be worse, Bubby, I regret to say.
There’s nothing about this travesty to gloat about. It’s coming for all of us sooner than later.
I’ll be praying for God’s mercy for all of you.
I can’t wrap my head around a Texas that won’t tap into its oil. Sorry, but any Texan who puts up with that crap has no business criticizing any other states.
Same goes for the border. Why won’t Texans secure their own border?
I always assumed that Texas would remain hardcore Red. Whatever happened to the Texas we all know and love??
Apparently there are civil and ex military volunteers who have gone to the border to do what Abbott will not. Don’t know how many there are, but there Texans stepping up. Again, crickets on meaningful action from Austin.
And remember, Abbott has an Mexican wife. What, if any, role, that is playing, I cannot say…but I can at least intimate.
Haven’t had a rolling black out in SoCal yet this summer- can’t believe this happens in Texas 😱
Y’all gonna burn down due to sorry-AS**ed forest mgt..
You might have just jinxed yourself, Tiff.
Lol. Right. We were told
To let our grass die to save water. What a crock.
My dad once grew beautiful fruit trees in CA wine country. All were left to wither and die in the drought. I’m grateful he is no longer here to see it.
No heat in winter. No air conditioning in summer. Sounds like green energy is a real winner.
SCAM………………………..
Just like COVID
Ukraine
climate
But the nazi’s and crazies are flying around the world on private jets, living in million-$$ mansions CRYING for EVERYONE ELSE to use green energy, walk/ride bikes, purchase electric autos while they are chauffered by peasants, low-mid class…
Indeed they are. Refuse green energy until these elites begin to lead by example.
Don’t forget solar. No electricity at night.
This has been a mass delusion. But now we know the purpose has always been to create a catastrophe now. Biden’s Bastards couldn’t wait 100 years for the predicted catastrophe.
My nephew’s solar system has 10 big batteries and is tied to the grid. His electricity bill averages about $50/month. They have three little girls and his wife is a stay at home mom. Their house is in full gear all day every day.
Having solar has worked out well for them. The solar panels didn’t generate any new power while covered in snow during the big freeze. No problem. They never lost grid power and had their fireplace in case of emergency.
Smart kid. In these times we should all have a backup system. I already have a wood burning stove and I plan to install a propane generator plugged into my electric panel. At least in winter the food won’t spoil when the power goes out, but it’s nice to have lights and running water too.
exactly – if you have to do without energy during extremes why do we have to PAY (through tax / gov subsidized) Green Energy?
If you are a globalist into depopulating our planet, green energy is da bomb!
I am in southeast Texas which is in the top five for humid locations in US…one can become their own personal swamp in just a few minutes here…if the power does blackout or brown out one good way to stay cool is to wet down some cotton clothing and find a shady spot with a breeze outside if one cannot afford emergency power…I regularly spray down before I even start an outdoors project or activity this time of year…in fact I don’t even dry off when I get out of the shower sometimes, just put on the cotton clothing while dripping wet….good luck to all if the grid starts failing.
I honestly don’t know how you can live in THAT heat and humidity. My one visit to New Orleans was an ordeal. One step out of my hotel … and I was drenched in sweat. I suppose a really low low BMI would help … ?
I’m 165# at 5’9″ and have worked in chemical plants and an oil refinery for nearly all of my adult life so acclamation is a given…sort of…plus I tend to sweat profusely…but at least the ground isn’t frozen 3′ deep here in winter…😉
Orlando mid-summer is almost as bad. One can function outdoors, but only by drinking a crapload of water and not working too hard or too fast. We built houses there.
Our son married near there in late August, and we drove from Texas to attend. Loved the drive, but oh MY!!
Humidity off the charts. So bad that my makeup (or war paint as I call it) slid right off before the ceremony.
I live here in Texas. I confirm – it’s hot and zero wind.
No rain either for the past months…
Must be climate change due to cow farts.
🙂
My Grandson who is a Trucker just called and said to start stocking up. He said his company has many drivers sitting in many States who went to make a pickup but the products were not there. These guys have been sitting and waiting for days and the products still have not shown up at the distribution facility. Most are food distributors. More strange stuff happening.
Thanks for that information, Shirley. Passing it on.
Yep.
Hey, CR. Blessings to you.
Just texted a screenshot of the above to all three of mine and hoping they’ll pass it on to their friends. Stocking up tomorrow on those things if I didn’t have I’d be really sorry.
But in the end, we can only do the best we can, and then hope (pray) that the worst doesn’t happen.
Our parents/ grandparents lived through the Great Depression. If we’re smart we can get through it. But we have to plan ahead.
Completely true. I’ve got stories from people long gone who made it through. Not easy by any means, but they lived to tell about it, which was a triumph.
Have any of those distribution facilities suffered mysterious fires lately?
Thank, Rick Perry, for all the windmills you ordered and bragged about when you were Governor. Really appreciate it. 27% of the state’s electric energy supply is windmills and they’re running today at 10% capacity. What a plan.
Running at 100% capacity. Same as Robinette’s brain.
Many people will comply when they notice the democrats and elites complying. Until then, oh well!
RINO governor Rickie Perry signed “energy” bill demanding all future generating capacity be 25% sustainable > “Green Prince of Darkness Exposed” at principia-scientific.org
“Generating capacity” is the key phrase. Sustainable energy generators (solar and wind) are available only about 18% of the time (best case).
So if 25% of your generating capacity is only available 18% of the time., it is only going to provide 4.5% of your total energy (best case).
So we’re exchanging 100% of our reliable fossil fuel energy for just 4.5% of our total energy needs? And that is the high end!!! Leftist ideology and propaganda over critical thinking!!!
I remember the wise words of a man who told me “that the wind only blows 1/3 of the time, and the sun shines for about 1/2 the time. Oil and gas operate all the time.” The inefficiency and expense of wind and solar is well known. Prepare accordingly.
Wise man
Better hurry dial up Wyoming for some coal. Then ask your Tex Railroad Commission to see if they can get it delivered.
you know thats what i was thinking, beings the supreme court ruled that the epa can not regulate green house gas emissions from power plants why haven’t they fired up all the old coal plants.
Bad engineering. If they had installed the windmills in front of the TX state government buildings, the hot air blowing out of those places would have kept the states power grid well-supplied for years…..
Yep. They should have bought my proposal to put generators on all those Peloton bikes in the Highland Park and University Park neighborhoods in Dallas. It’s for the planet, you know.
A state museum nearby used to have an exercise bike in its science exhibits. They hooked an electric generator to the chain and wired an ordinary light bulb to the generator. The amount of work it took to light that bulb up was more than some visitors could even muster.
I guess the purpose was to leave visitors a real world appreciation of plentiful electrical power. It was removed.
That was an incandescent bulb, now they have LED bulbs. Less energy more light.
Remember that exhibit in the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. That was hard work.😁🤔🤔
Just like in Soylent Green. I swear on my daughter’s eyesight I actually emailed Peleton with that exact pitch. Brilliant.
And don’t forget “the greater good”.
It was Ted Cruz that allowed this debacle to even occur. Why he approved this inefficient form of energy into Texas, is a real mindboggler. Cha-Ching
I’m surprised the traitor and CoC well paid lackey Cornyn didn’t have a hand in it as well.
Oh, and while you’re at it, stop charging your Tesla, too!
So what is going to happen when everyone is plugging in an electric car to charge for hours at a time every single day?
They California’d my Texas. And we are a Red state?
In February 2021, more than a couple of Texans froze to death due to JoeBamaLa energy policies. Governor Abbott declared an emergency during that winter storm, JoeBamaLa defeated the governor’s orders to ERCOT, and Texans died due to alternative energy garbage. Wonder if the same thing is going on this time?
Texans Froze To Death Because Biden Admin Ordered ERCOT To Throttle Energy Output By Forcing It To Comply With Environmental Green Energy Standards | From the Trenches World Report
ADD: Texas has been literally overrun with illegals since JoeBamaLa took office and nullified our border. These extra bodies are exacerbating the utilities issues to the Nth degree.
Wait … you’re telling me that illegal aliens use electric lights and air conditioners?
Who knew?
I ain’t no genius, but isn’t this usually how a heat wave works?
Hot no wind? 🤔
Try living here in Oklahoma. Its the norm here.
How many are now getting a monthly “Energy Report Card” comparing your use to that of your neighbors? Last month I scored a C-. Most of my more “energy efficient neighbors” scored much higher. Will I get home detention for that lower grade? What will my punishment be? Maybe my name will be published and I will be shamed and shunned?
How can anybody possibly believe that windmills and solar panels will keep the grid up and running the way fossil fuels can?
Live in Texas, no actual issues to date, can confirm received email. But why today? It’s been 100+ for a few weeks now with almost no wind (in DFW metroplex) for a number of days. However today it is breezy. Just doesn’t make sense from a customer standpoint…feels random to be asking on a non-holiday Monday.
Just drove through central Texas up to the Panhandle a couple weeks ago. Saw many thousands of windmills … they’re supposed to be supplying 20-25% of Texas energy needs, so at 10% capacity, they’re now supplying 2 – 2.5%. And by the way, those blades are as long as a semi truck.
And when they decay or rot, they are just piled up in a windmill graveyard. And they do rot.
How planet saving is that??
Well, I am happy to report that the corn in the southern end of Northern IL is about 5ft tall or taller!
Some thoughts generated by the windmill issues.
Coming back on my little road trip, I pass several large windmill farms and have often wondered about the manicured landscape around each windmill.
Each windmill occupying a large plot of land that is unused, other than the grass surrounding each windmill. Meaning it is unused agricultural real estate. Am wondering how many acres of productive agricultural land has been removed from the system? And this is only one or two windmill farms. IL has plenty more (say ‘thank you to Mr. Obama’)./s
My question is this: How much petrol is required to keep that nice, from a distance “manicured look” of grass around each windmill??? And am thinking for about 20-30 windmills, maybe. And the little road that runs up to the base of each windmill, what kind of maintenance, does that require?
Wasted resources.
There are lots of articles out there glorifying their use and minimize the land use factor….so I don’t know what is true and what is not.
A quick googledeegoo reports a half acre per turbine/windmill. Oh well…
Western NC has the same appearance – but not around Asheville, where the monied progressives live. NIMBY, don’tcha know.
Trump was right again, as usual!!
A Texas Republican congressman has asked Elon Musk for help stabilizing the Texas power grid due to the stress caused by the growing number of electric cars…does the idiocy never end?
I’ve just visited the site Texas Scorecard where there is one tiny article about this.
Lawmakers, which include both sides of the Uniparty with the R side slightly ahead “cajoled the state’s electricity generators in to spending $56,000,000,000 on wind farms, that will…just like during the deadly winter storm of 2021…sit idle.”
Ideology over intellectual rigour. How much stupid is too much??
Well, Texans, as you sit there sweating in the dark, be sure to thank Governor Windmill for all he’s done to destabilize the Texas Grid, and for all his top-notch appointments to ERCOT.
Perry was awful in this area, but Abbott has been pure ruination. We are deficient in baseload power, and don’t have capacity from Natural Gas to make up the difference on high-demand days because they’ve become reliant on fickle sources of energy.
And two days ago one of our chief sources in Oklahoma had to shut down because of one of those pesky fires that seem so prevalent these days with refineries (in the Gulf) and food distribution centres.
But O’Rourke would be pure “ruination-er”
Great choices we have, eh?
Zero and less than zero.
But Democrats and globalists are forcing everybody through law and regulation to use electric vehicles.
When you can’t meet the current demand for electricity how the hell are you going to meet future EV capacity that is 10 times greater?
These people are simpletons..
They do not intend that we own electric cars. The intend to get us out of cars and into public transit. Electric cars are the transition.
They know what they are doing. We foolishly accept their premise.
Bingo!!! And once that transition is made the power plants will be shut down to a trickle so the EVs can’t charge up and can’t go anywhere!!! So your $60k EV will just sit in the garage while you have to pay the car loan sort of like the college loan program!!!
Yep, and the JoeBamaLa Administration is forcing “green energy” use through regulations.
Didn’t we use something better before this? Refresh my memory.
Here ya go….
Why not fire up those coal plants?
Freezing in winter and boiling in summer is not “green”, it’s deadly.
Because the JoeBamaLa regulators forbid it. Last year when some Texans froze to death it was due to this Scam Administration denying Texas the ability/permission to fire up more natural gas facilities.
Many have been converted to natural gas. So … natural gas is being used to charge electric cars. But existing car engines can easily be run directly on natural gas and bypass the power plant, which could be running on coal, which cannot be used in cars.
IOW they just do not want us to own cars which can be rapidly refueled roadside to provide unlimited freedom of movement.
Yes down here in the land of Chyna Greg Abbott, who just won our parties Republican nomination. CG has done zip, zilch, nada on the Grid situation since the freeze of 21. It’s almost like he’s trying to give the Governors job to Beto. First, it is hot. I mean hot, like the 3rd layer of hell hot and has been over 106 for days. We have another 9 days of record heat coming our way. This morons solution is to have everyone stop using electricity between 2-8pm. A year and a half and he’s done nothing to shore up the Grid,.. this green energy isn’t working. H E L L O, not sure who needs to know but Obama’s green new deal blows, everything but the turbines.
Green Energy = First you freeze and then you bake! And you are right Abbot hasn’t done a thing to remedy this.
I’m curious–what actions can Abbott take to make the situation better?
The wind turbines froze in January 21, leaving us without enough power to have electricity in our homes. For days there were rolling blackouts, unless you were on a line with a hospital, school, or other business requiring no shut down of power.
It has been 18 months, a strategic thinker would have identified the issues and shored up the solutions. Hint, 25% of our grid is run by wind turbines. We know the turbines freeze in the cold and we know when there is no wind they don’t generate power. Perhaps Chyna Greg could have diversified our power sources increasing things like the “natural” power sources available to us here in this state. Ding ding, if you guessed natural gas you are a winner.
We have had an influx of people leaving blue states and coming to Texas, yet ERCOT a public utility has done nothing to increase their ability to provide more power. Unlike most grids ERCOT is independently run and “deregulated”, think how bad that was for the airlines. Now they offer this as a way to keep costs low, my electric bill last month for a 5 bedroom home was $962. This is keeping the a/c at 74, not sure what others are paying but the costs are extremely high.
Stop building windmills. Build nuclear baseload power. Tell the Feds to go and pound sand if they bleat. Build Natural Gas fired peak plants. Tell the Feds to go and pound sand if they bleat.
There’s a lot a State Governor can do in the Federal System, but Greg Abbott is too much of a gutless RINO coward to do any of it. He would rather whine and bitch in fundraising letters than actually solve any pressing issue. Ex: The Border.
Real short answer: Resign. Leave town.
He appoints all the leaders at ERCOT who control the energy in Texas. No one was fired after the freeze last year. Abbott is a loser, but yet , he won’t give up his pandemic power…..he might still need that just in case….
Weren’t about half of the ERCOT commissioners replaced after the freeze?
He can sign an executive order banning the abandonment of coal and nuclear plants, and put a hold on new wind turbines.
Allow an interconnect with the Midcontinent ISO and Southern Power Pool.
Texas pretty dumb.
Get what you vote for.
It’s not like they have a stable supply of oil and gas in Texas to produce power. DOH!
Stable? Mayor Pete is taking care of that.
Problem is no “Peaker” plants available (Using natural gas which Texas has in abundance).A peaker power plant only comes online when peak power is needed, or some event has caused loss of power elsewhere in the grid. This has been a LONG neglected situation. It takes about 5 years to entitle and build a peaker. Gee, did anyone notice the wind doesn’t blow when a heat dome is over a wide area? Or that severe cold can freeze up wind mills? Our betters are stupid!
SoCal heat is coming on higher this week for a sweltering Summer.
We have it but they aren’t using it! cough cough… Putin or something…
You’d think. And after the ’21 debacle, the power industry put $8 billion of new power plant proposals in front of ERCOT. They’ve turned them all down.
I beg to differ Abbbatt did not win the primary it was given to him just as the WH was given to the meat suit known as Joe Biden.. This country’s way of life is under siege we are well past an invasion.. The migrants are the new citizens, learn your place
ERCOT found some unplanned capacity this afternoon. Available power went from 80GW to 83GW, so no problems today. Those huge subsidies for the windmills were a horrible “investment”.
Yesterday it was 109 with heat index of 119. We had an afternoon tropical pop up storm around 9p with wind about 50mph (no joke). We are keeping the a/c set at 82, not to “conserve” energy, but to conseve our money (bill). I only remember one time before now when we had a heatwave like this but it wasn’t this early in the summer and it didn’t last this long.
Abbott, tho am no fan (my primary vote was for Allen West), did fix Ercot … Over half the board didn’t live in TX, all members had to be appointed by another member of the board … You get the idea. Board shrunk, all must live in TX and all power providers had to be audited for capabilities by April 1 of this year … One of the first items of last year’s special legislative session.
Board members from California,Mich, Ohio and Massachusetts dumped, compensation revamped.
Been following this Ercot thing closely since Feb 2021 ice storm and while I carry no brief for Abbott, Ercot is mostly fixed.
Still think there’s a Beto element going on here 🤔
Sounds like America in many areas are going back to the 50s and 60s where only the rich had luxuries like air conditioning & whole house heating.
However, I have a feeling that most homes & apartment complexes are not made to be without air conditioning.
The Texas legislature and the Public Utility Commission are over ERCOT, not the governor.
ERCOT issued the conservation appeal, not the governor.
Lay this onto your Texas state senator and Texas House rep and the PUC.
BTW, abbott has not done shit about the border invasion either.
Abbott is RINO. If DeSantis was running Texas do you think these blackouts and energy gaps would be happening?
Big mistake to bring back Abbott, was hoping for Allen. Abbott talks a big game but never delivers. Elections there are a mess in Blue areas, there are questionable machine results and mail-in counting. Abbott talks tough about the border, signs some action but doesnt enforce sh!t.
Then you have Cornyn and Eye-Patch McCain. Texas needs to get their sh!t together.
Amen. We Floridians are sick and damn tired of the meth, coke, heroin, fentanyl and the rest of the World’s throw away humans that magically appear in our State. I have little room to talk because if it weren’t for Governor DeSantis, our RINO shortcomings were/are LEGENDARY.
Every Red State in America would like DeSantis, he’s the bar setter at this point. I hear you on the “Mexico isn’t sending their best” here in Texas. We are being flooded, and I mean flooded with Illegals. The last 2 years have changed the demographics of some towns. Obama did his best to change a lot as well with his resettlement programs.
If all these migrant source Countries that we the lowly taxpayers have subsidized though monetary aid for the last 50 years actually used those monies for the betterment of their people this would not be happening. Now we pay for them twice. I think all the mass newcomers are walking into a trap.
Do you live in Texas, near the border? Abbot has done more than any Governor in any state to draw attention to the border crisis , and actually send real help, in the form of DPS troopers, helicopters , boats on the Rio Grande. Say what you want, but on the border, Abbot has went 150%.
We can’t tell that he has done doodley squat, pal. More dope than ever.
Amen, CR. Cartels actually here running drones to suss out where all that border “protection” is.
They got that load. How many got through while they were dismantling that one?..
Tell us exactly what he has done.. Standing around watching doesn’t count.. Even hauling the trespassers back to the border or giving them a free ride to Chicago does not help..
Empty gestures. Abbott is afraid of the Feds. They must have something on him. Whenever the heat turns up on him, he goes on TicTok Hannity, that’s all you need to know.
Until Abbot has his Fish & Game Department selling no limit hunting tags for anything crossing the border anywhere but an official port of entry, he’s not doing all he can.
No I’m in Dallas. I think that is mostly Abbott grandstanding. The buses to DC only had several hundred people, we are getting thousands by the day flooding the border. The border towns can’t support their systems with the number of illegals. Schools, hospitals and other services are overwhelmed. If you’ve seen Chyna Greg saying he’s doing something, I suspect it’s all talk. Everyone notices how our demographics have changed. Now Rick Perry, say what you will but he was a much better Governor and he was not a fence rider.
He’s done nothing but go to Fox News and say he is building a wall and apprehending illegals. Neither is true. Dont you ever wonder why there are no pictures of this wall that Abbott supposedly built? Abbott was scared to campaign or debate West/Huffines or Prather. Any of the 3 would have been light years ahead of Abbott
Abbott said he was going to stack shipping containers up high.
How about dredging a moat with alligators and snakes.
Mines would work pretty well too.
Wow. He mobilized forces paid by Texas taxpayers to bring illegals to the Border Patrol, who will then “process” them and release them into the State and the rest of America. I honestly don’t know how you find this impressive, or even worthy of anything other than ridicule and derision. He had a declaration from a host of border County Judges, imploring him to declare a State of Invasion. Instead, our esteemed Governor put out his half-assed “Return them to the Border” missive, which does nothing to help matters.
All he had to do was sign the State of Invasion papers. Then State forces could toss illegals right back into Mexico. He didn’t. He is as gutless as he is cynical.
“Abbott talks a big game but never delivers.”
Abbott (and Pence) explained in one photo.
This, Abbott is a fence riding RINO.
No more need be said. One picture worth a million words.
TURDS in a punchbowl
Used to be much less, but, inflation and all.
All clowns at the rodeo.
The picture that says a thousand damning words.
You summed our state up very well..thank you
Trust me, I’ve done my part. Along with a lot of others, we simply thought Allen was going to do better. Something smells when 50% of comments throughout Chyna Greg’s lockdowns were negative, yet he won bigly over Allen. Cornyn and eye patch are both yuge disappointments as well as Cruz. I personally, walked door to door in some neighbors for Cruz when he was neck and neck with Beto. Never again.
Cheers, you are a Patriot. Priority is voter role clean up. Voter ID. Throw out the machines, have aTexas Tea party and chuck them into the Rio Grand. These elections are rigged to select RINOs, just ask Ms. Lindsey!
I too voted for Allen West in the primary. I’ll vote for Abbott in the general. I won’t vote for Beto ever.
The problem Allen West faced, IMO, was that he was not long-established in Texas. He was retired military, so had moved around. However, it did not help that he had been a congressman representing a Florida district. The impression was that he was a carpetbagger who was shopping for a venue.
Like I said, I voted for Allen West. I was not shocked to see that Abbott won the primary.
AG Ken Paxton has been working hard on those election issues. An admirable AG. But it really is an uphill battle.
He seems wimpy to me. Didnt he say on Bannons show that he was stripped of any authority to prosecute voter fraud. He got out manuvered by Lawfare and this may futher kill elections in TX.
Won’t happen. You and your business allowed illegal immigration for decades. You won’t boycott the NFL. And you chose Abbott over Allen.
Get used to hot and cold
(Eye patch McCain – 👍)
Chamber of Commerce Republicans. Can’t stand them. Total sell outs. GA, SC, NC are other states full of these types. Bloated back slappers who just want to party with their Chamber clones and go to sporting events in Lux. boxes, talk about the good old days. No thanks, I would rather hang and have a beer with the Truckers and Farmers.
