The American public’s opinion of Joe Biden is worse than any former occupant of the oval office. Biden is in a competition with Jimmy Carter for the worst economic policy in our nation’s history. With polling that low, he cannot weigh in on anything of importance – especially gun control legislation.
It appears the White House has chosen to use Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey as the point person for new legislation in the aftermath of the Uvalde school shooting. McConaughey is a native of Uvalde and delivered an impassioned speech earlier today from the White House. WATCH:

The basic framework of new legislation looks like a raising of the age from 18 to 21 to purchase an AR-style rifle, increased investment in mental health, and federal “red flag” laws. Of the proposals the “red flag” laws are the most problematic.
We have seen how ideologues in social media operate. It is not a stretch to predict in today’s DOJ, they would accept a “red flag” list of Trump supporters from a social media site moderator and send out the ATF swat team. However, well intentioned he might be, Mr. McConoughey is wrong on the red flag component.
McConaughey doesn’t make law. Gun laws are Unconstitutional too.
I contacted my reps, and my senator, Tillis, is clearly a RINO.
Tillis is on his knees praying while sending out smear mailings about my Congressman. I do not care what he says about anything.

FJB & Democrats want schools to take over parenting, including maybe getting to see your kids only on weekends, if then. Your kids are not your kids. FJB already said so.
In fact, any kids are FJB’s to grope freely & often. He just asked to see kids attending his bill signing for better veteran care to stay afterwards so he could “talk” to them.
We use to take guns to school, kids worked on them in shop class, and we went hunting with friends after school. Yet there were no shootings, just a fist fight now and then, and even those were rare.
In the 70s, my public high school in upstate Central New York had a Rod and Gun Club.
At least you made contact. Never underestimate the “fire for effect” we have when we contact our Senators, Representatives and County Sheriff who can arrest Federal Agents.

I live in Texas. There has been comments about him running for govenor in the future. I think he is positioning himself as someone who speaks up on important issues. I won’t vote for him, but this isn’t the first issue that he has make his views known. He spoke up when he disagreed when Gov. Abbott lifted the mask mandates etc. He presents his message well, but he misses the mark as far as I am concerned.

Why did Matthew McConaughey just lecture the US on guns — shouldn’t he have instead addressed the real problem which is Democrats letting their cities be overrun by criminals?
Here in Florida as a law enforcement officer I’ve enforced Red Flag petitions and as a psychologist, I’ve evaluated several individuals that were served with such orders. Both enforcement and evaluation have limitations and gaps for abuse. I would never even consider granting such power to the FBI.

I’m not even a criminal defense lawyer and I’ve repeatedly had to get clients out of abusive Baker Act filings. They are angry/scared because they’re yanked in but not irrational, and then if they have good insurance they are exhorted to voluntarily commit themselves under the express or implied threat that if they don’t they will be subject to a petition for involuntary commitment.
One time a cop grabbed my client who was admittedly kind of a screw-up type of guy who was parked on the side of the road waiting in his car outside his friend’s house for his friend (whose wife didn’t like so he couldn’t go in) and fell asleep. He had a cc permit. Cop confiscated his legal weapon and told him he was going to be Baker Acted. Drove him clear across the county and dropped him off in the lobby of a random hospital.
Another case parents had an argument with grown son over his getting a piercing in a place they thought was sick, called the police, had him Baker Acted.
Multiple divorce cases where the ex-wives report safe men for custody advantage. (He has a gun!) Multiple cases in which husband and wife are in a screaming match over something such as his cheating and one of them claims that the other threatened to kill themselves. One guy claimed his wife, crying, said “I should kill myself” so he reported her because that gave him fodder to file a motion in court to for 100% custody and make her go through supervised visitation. Some cases actually dangerous guys get assessed as okay because… it’s a divorce custody case (huh?)
This crap is abused. And unfortunately, the quiet depressed ones who really mean it and on top of being suicidal intend to take out others with themselves are often missed. Because there are no crystal balls and risk assessment is a very iffy thing, trying to extrapolate from retrospective studies to an individual as to whom there is no prior history.
We don’t lock up people in prison before they have committed crimes for good reason. It’s equally impossible to try to predict with certainty whether someone who doesn’t have a history of committing cruel or dangerous irrational acts that will harm themselves or others.
The drag net is going to be way overbroad in order to assure that dangerous people get stopped in advance, or else it’s going to be narrow and miss them because we don’t want to wrongfully lock up lots of people and remove their liberties in order to make sure we have the few who need to be.
The public needs to wake the hell up.

Background checks won’t reflect unreported or unprosecuted violence. Can they even reflect juvenile records since those are usually sealed?

2) Get them out of politics, industries, anything dealing with the public.
3) Get them out of healthcare and mental health care
4) Get them out of jails
