The American public’s opinion of Joe Biden is worse than any former occupant of the oval office. Biden is in a competition with Jimmy Carter for the worst economic policy in our nation’s history. It appears the White House has chosen to use Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey as the point person for new legislation in the aftermath of the Uvalde school shooting. McConaughey is a native of Uvalde and delivered an impassioned speech earlier today from the White House. WATCH:

The basic framework of new legislation looks like a raising of the age from 18 to 21 to purchase an AR-style rifle, increased investment in mental health, and federal “red flag” laws. Of the proposals the “red flag” laws are the most problematic.
We have seen how ideologues in social media operate. It is not a stretch to predict in today’s DOJ, they would accept a “red flag” list of Trump supporters from a social media site moderator and send out the ATF swat team. However, well intentioned he might be, Mr. McConoughey is wrong on the red flag component.

There is no gun legislation which is constitutional. There is only ONE way outlined in the constitution to deprive an individual of the right to bear arms — Due Process.
All of this other legislation, past present and future denies due process for whole categories and groups. It’s not just a violation of the second amendment which forbids such government action, but it also violates due process.

I didn’t watch it and I don’t agree with a lot of his work he’s done in the past few years, but I hate seeing good people (my opinion) dissed. I see nothing wrong with him being there since he was born in Uvalde. (He lives on a ranch 30 miles from my hometown in west Texas.)

The 21 year-old to purchase rule will not affect us in Florida. Age 21 to purchase firearms has been in effect since 2018, when it was passed by the Republican legislature and signed into law by Rick Scott. Florida is one of only six states to have such a law.

In no way shape or form can Biden be compared with Carter. Their motives were very different.

I just watched, and I’ve seen many interviews with him where he seems to be a man of integrity and Texas common sense, despite his career.
He is appropriate as a speaker on this shooting. A known face from the community…by all measures the biggest thing to ever come out of Uvalde. He didn’t say anything I strongly disagree with except the “red flag laws”, which Sundance covered. He said a lot I do agree with, when it comes to a restoration of morals and family and responsible gun ownership, increased work on the mental health issues in our country, etc. I do think there are common sense “red flags”, such as the history of violent minors not being wiped out simply by turning 18. But strong….STRONG…protections need to be in place, with due process after a red flag blocks any purchase and strong definitions upon what the red flags may be. Mental health is a topic that stands above and beyond this subject, but addressing it would lower these types of violent incidents. Since we emptied the institutions and cut mental health beds to 10% of what they used to be, our mentally ill and drug addicted are living among us as “homeless” or with family I’ll equipped to deal with them.
