The American public’s opinion of Joe Biden is worse than any former occupant of the oval office. Biden is in a competition with Jimmy Carter for the worst economic policy in our nation’s history. It appears the White House has chosen to use Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey as the point person for new legislation in the aftermath of the Uvalde school shooting. McConaughey is a native of Uvalde and delivered an impassioned speech earlier today from the White House. WATCH:

The basic framework of new legislation looks like a raising of the age from 18 to 21 to purchase an AR-style rifle, increased investment in mental health, and federal “red flag” laws. Of the proposals the “red flag” laws are the most problematic.
We have seen how ideologues in social media operate. It is not a stretch to predict in today’s DOJ, they would accept a “red flag” list of Trump supporters from a social media site moderator and send out the ATF swat team. However, well intentioned he might be, Mr. McConoughey is wrong on the red flag component.
The world is imploding and a person who plays make believe for a living is in charge.

I know why the “red flag” is the most troubling, but I have serious concerns about raising the minimum age to 21. It represents a long, ongoing trend to continually push back the age of “adulthood” in areas where it comes certain rights.
Rather than continually pushing back “adulthood” into the mid-20s, we should be asking why our society is no longer raising eighteen and nineteen year olds capable of acting like adults. Or to put it another why, rather than restricting rights at certain ages, we should be asking why some individuals do not have the maturity necessary to exercise those rights.
I’m all for 21 – but if they can’t own guns they can’t volunteer or be drafted into the military, vote, sign a contract like a student loan, get married, etc.
If you aren’t mature enough to purchase a firearm than you certainly should not be trusted to vote, marry, even consent to sex.
I’d add “gender-affirming” surgery to that list.
But a five year old kid can Decide what Sex they are.

I do not doubt the sincerity of Matthew McConaughey but I wonder if he is not a little naive? Is investment in mental health really at the root of the problem? Fifty years ago there were more guns per 1000 Americans than today but virtually none of the shootings that seem to occur so frequently today.
• Could it be because there were more marriages and more fathers at home?
• Could it be because there was more parental discipline and a clearer understanding of what was right and wrong?

Drugs are at the root of this evil. Weed is so much more powerful now than when I was in college. I also believe that the mental illness we are witnessing now is because of prescription drugs that doctors prescribe for children, especially boys, that are determined to have ADD or ADHD because the boys can’t focus on their school work. As a retired teacher I have seen boys put on drugs by their parents so they can focus in class. These children can’t eat or sleep because of these drugs. I often wonder how many people are on drugs for depression, bipolar issues, etc. We have been programmed to accept prescription drugs because they are supposed to make our lives better. They don’t.
