Two elderly relatives came down with coVid. Both were taken to the hospital and put on remdesivir immediately. Conditions for both worsened dramatically.
One family was distrustful of the system and ordered him off of remdesivir, request ivermectin, were denied it, and smuggled into the hospital and treated him secretly. He recovered in days.
The other family trusts gov’t and authority. They didn’t know any better and the died.
Both incidences happened within three months of each other.

Yes, I think that there ought to be such a free and open conversation. I’m grateful that Mr. Oliver and Mr. Steyn are fighting the good fight. But we haven’t had that kind of conversation on many topics for a long time.
It is easy to think that the suppression of free speech has happened suddenly. That is my own natural reaction. In the boiling frog analogy, the recent temperature spike is sudden enough for us frogs to notice. But it’s actually been getting hotter for a long time.
The government over-reach has been gradually enabled over the last hundred years, probably more.
I’m not a historian. My knowledge is pretty spotty. But beginning when I was in primary school, seventy years ago, we had already started giving up our right to talk about certain things, to hold certain opinions. Self censorship became more and more common. This hastened during the sixties and seventies. It was aided by organizations that aimed to change the standards of public opinion and then to enforce the new standards. I saw it happen over several decades.
In those days, it was simply a matter of people watching their mouths. But even then, they complied. Increasingly they kept quiet.
As time went on, there were more and more questions that simply could not be discussed in public. Companies began to take an interest in what their employees thought and said, and one’s employability started coming into question. Employers especially began to take an interest when the government got involved, and even more so when they were required to police what their employees said.
With increasing govenment involvement, political correctness went into overdrive. The private / government partnership to harass people who spoke out of turn escalated. The range of things that could not be said, as well as the penalties for noncompliance, multiplied.
Of course, this is just from my own little peephole on the world. There were the Nazis before my time, the Soviets when I was a kid, and numerous dictatorships since them. They all took a dim view of free speech. Lack of civil liberties, not to mention the lack of their guarantee, has been the norm throughout history.
This is why the guarantees enshrined in our Constitution are so unusual and so precious.
I do not say any of this to criticize Mr. Oliver or Mr. Steyn. Quite the opposite. I am just pointing out that Mr. Oliver’s “free and open conversation,” has not been with us for a long time. Maybe we’ve only recently lost it with respect to vaccination policy (and energy policy, and the weather…) But we lost the concept over a long period of time as we allowed more and more kinds of speech and opinion to become hazardous to engage in.
Yes, freedom of speech is good. We just have gotten further away from it than we might realize.

I tested positive for Covid 2 days ago. My spouse tested positive earlier in the week. He got pretty sick for two days but is better. I had fever and headache for one day. We both have used Ivermectin as a preventative/prophylactic for well over a year (we have cattle and use livestock grade from Tractor Supply.) I believe the ivermectin mitigated our symptoms. We aren’t vaxxed. We’ve never had Covid before now and we’ve been exposed numerous times.
On our local New Orleans station, they reported that our state’s cases are rising due to the reinstatement of our festivals, most notably Jazz Fest which happened two weeks ago. My fear is that any new variant of Covid could magically appear and the authorities want the ability to impose lockdowns all over again. In the very beginning of the pandemic, our area was a hotspot thanks to Mardis Gras. The powers that be simply need every option to remain open. Elections are coming. If it hadn’t been for Covid and mass mail-in ballots, our Donald Trump would still be in the White House.

A friend fell on a motorcycle 2 weeks ago, cracking a rib and lacerating his spleen and liver. He was in the hospital with surgery to repair the spleen for 5 days. They tested him the first day for Covid. He tested positive so they tested him again the next day and it was negative. He had no symptoms of course., but they tested anyhow. With the same tests the cdc supposedly unapproved in December. Go figure. Stupid.

My aunt who did not have children and who was like a mother to me just passed. She had many health problems but the main problem was kidney failure and at 92 she was not t candidate for dialysis. She had to spend the last few months in a care facility to be taken care of. Hospice came in a few weeks ago.
I just got the death certificate. Cause of death . . . you guessed it – Covid.
Beyond frustrating! Not sure what state you live in or if you had power of attorney but you might consider contacting the county that issued the certificate and demand that it be re-issued with the correct cause of death.
Put the Hospice provider, and your aunt’s care facility, on blast and let them know that you will file complaints with the state medical board for malpractice and with Medicare for fraud!
If they do not seem interested in talking with you, start putting reviews on every social media site that you can think of and let them know that you will tell EVERYONE what they did and warn people that if they are clearly dishonest enough to lie about an old woman’s cause of death then that says volumes about what kind of care they probably give!

My mother passed away in May 2020, when COVID was just starting…I was not allowed to see her for almost six weeks until Hospice declared her “end-stage” and at that point I was able to be with her all day for the last week of her life. Thankfully, she had been in the same Memory Care facility for almost five years and all the staff knew me, since I was there all the time.
I told her PCP and Hospice that she did NOT have COVID and I did not want it anywhere on her death certificate. I even spoke with the County a week or so after she passed to verify the listed Cause of Death before the final certificate was issued. The clerk said, “Good for you for being on top on this” and told me that she had so many people calling after they received their loved ones’ Death Certificates with a COVID listing and most were stunned and many were angry!
These are Crimes Against Humanity and everyone who profited financially by perpetrating the fraud should be tried for murder, IMHO!
Same here. My husband died in December, 2020. He was in a Memory Care facility and was in his 14th year with Alzheimers. We were cut off with “limited, scheduled” visitation 03/20. October 16th, 2020 we were prevented from any visitation. Daily calls were made to check on him and requests to visit him always denied. He died alone without any loved ones to hold his hand. His death certificate listed Parkinson’s, as my daughter was emphatic about his death not be listed as covid.

Good for your daughter for speaking up regarding the death certificate. IMHO, if more people would have vocally challenged these incidents very early on we might have been able to stop the freight train of lies that has destroyed our country!
Unfortunately, the media was a big part of pushing those lies. Very few people realized that the CDC changed the way deaths were to be reported early on (I think the date of the directive was April 4th 2020) because no one in the MSM covered it. They just pushed fear porn and “death counts”.

I miss Steyn’s regular appearances on Tuckers show – at one point almost weekly. Perhaps his GBN gig prevents him from going on Fox – if so that is a shame because he is not only very interesting with great takes on just about every topic but also humorous.
Steyn himself was asked several months ago on his weekly radio call-in show why he doesn’t appear on Tucker Carlson anymore.
He said that he wasn’t being allowed to cover the range of topics he wanted to cover, or in the depth he wanted to cover them. So it was time to move on. Leaving was his own decision.
GB News is a steady gig. He has the freedom to cover the topics he thinks are important in the way he wants to cover them. A much better situation both for him and for his listeners, wherever they might be located.
I try to catch at least two of his GB News shows every week. The quality of what is being done on GB News is so far above what we see here in the US on the MSM networks there is no real comparison.
He (Steyn) used to make frequent appearances on Fox & Friends in the morning, as well. Not sure why he hasn’t been there in the last several months.
