Senate Democrats wanted to manufacture a political optic using the hot button issue of abortion. The senate pushed a bill for a massive expansion of abortion, far beyond Roe -v- Wade, to the floor. However, the bill needed 60 votes to pass cloture, end debate.
Embarrassingly, and in a pure political stunt, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer summoned Kamala Harris to the upper chamber in the event she was needed for a “tie-breaking” vote. However, cloture requires 60 votes, not 50, so the optics of Harris only highlighted the insufferable politics.
The cloture vote failed 49-51, far short of the 60 votes needed to end debate and attempt to pass the bill. Democrat Senator Joe Manchin voted with republicans to block the cloture effort. The federal abortion legislation now disappears back into the filing cabinet from which it came.

According to Manchin’s earlier statement, “Democrats are “trying to make people believe that this is the same thing as codifying Roe v. Wade. And I want you to know, it’s not,” he argued, referring to the bill’s ban on some state restrictions on the procedure currently allowed. “This is not the same. It expands abortion.”

It was unconstitutional for the House and Senate to even be voting on a bill that is not within their purview, nor within the purview of the Supreme Court to decide a legislative issue, nor can any President decide through an Executive decision or any other action. Only the States and/or The People can legally address a legislation regarding the legality of abortions.
For my part, I just don’t want taxpayers to be footing the bill for abortions, and they would mostly not be happening. Until Congress removes its laws forcing taxpayers to pay for abortions, I will not be impressed at all by any of these political posturings.
This has always been my stance. If they want to kill their babies, they can pay for it themselves.

Those of us who went on the “pill” when it first came out were much more aware of birth control options than generations since. I have had employees who said they used abortions as their “birth control,” even when their partners refused to use condoms.

I found out I was going to become a father when I was 24. We weren’t quite prepared, but not in bad shape either. I went all in, and long story short, I had the amazing opportunity of helping to deliver my daughter. I even got to cut the cord. Amazing.
That event fundamentally changed me. All the fears and questions I suspect most new fathers have, just melted away. I discovered that I was pretty good at being a dad, and I loved it. It’s hard to put into words, but I became a better person.
26 years later and my second grandchild is on the way. Seeing my daughter and son in law become great parents gives me unending happiness.
What makes me profoundly sad, is that there are people in this world who would, through their own ignorance and devotion to a sick and twisted ideology, proudly kill their own child before he or she even has a chance at life.

I think they are rushing this, so when the ruling does come down, they can claim their base must get out to vote to protect abortion in their states. And hey, while you’re at it, remember to vote for us as well so we can vote again in Congress to codify this.
They know what way this ruling is going to go, and they will be looking for any way to rouse their rabble to get out and act.
