Today is primary day in Ohio and Indiana. Additionally, there are five state legislative run-offs today, four in Michigan and one seat in Georgia where candidates did not get 50% of the vote.
Most of the nation will be focused on Ohio for the republican senate primary and governor’s race. J.D. Vance secured President Donald Trump’s endorsement in a crowded and contentious senate primary. On the Democratic side, Rep Tim Ryan is considered the front-runner.

Unfortunately, Mike DeWine meekly wins the governor’s race with less than 50% of the vote. The splitter strategy worked to protect DeWine from the “anyone but DeWine” vote. Very frustrating.

Stark County, Ohio, is still and may always be the swing county of Ohio.
Stark County is Canton/Massillon/Alliance.
It’s a very diverse county. Part Urban, part suburban, part rural and part hilly Appalachian with some coal mining and oil/gas industry.
Steel matters there but it’s close enough to Cleveland and Akron to latch onto their economy.
JD Vance won Stark County even with Jane Timken being part of the Timken Company (major employer there) and Dolan/Mandel/Gibbons being from nearby Cleveland (50-60 miles north).
Stark County has been a key swing county in Ohio.
It’s been devastated by globalism.
Liddle Joe Blystone doesn’t fit into Stark County except for the outer edges of the county.
DeRINO would only get clueless voters or Dems playing games with the Ohio primary.
Trump won Stark County and related well to the majority of the voters.
Football is a cultural phenomenon in Stark County. HS football games there often will draw 10,000 or more fans at a game.
It is a Midwest primal super competitive sporting culture.

Vance did well there.

You are correct. Don’t sit it out. We had this same circumstance in several election cycles in Virginia. It got us Dem Governors who darn near destroyed the state with leftist policies. Youngkin was not my choice in the Primary, but Trump endorsed him for the General for Governor, and I voted for him. The GOP took back the Lt. Gov. , AG and the House. He has already started turning back some of the Dem laws, but he has to wait until 2023 to get the GOP to take the Senate back.

Why are we so bad at scaring off other candidates?
You have to remember that they are being paid to lose as long as they siphon away votes.
We “scare away other candidates” by drying up the money that the eGOP sends them. We “scare away other candidates” by not just drying up the money, but by recognizing the phonies, showing up at their events, and badgering them to the point where what money they do get isn’t worth it.
We’ll also scare off other candidates by advancing our candidates who go to D.C. and remove people like Mitch McConnell and his heir apparent from the leadership. Then you move people like Romney and Graham and others like them to committee assignments that are not powerful…which also dries up their money supply and sends them packing.
Here’s my thoughts on why President Trump didn’t endorse a gubernatorial candidate, although he sang Renacci’s praises in ’18 when he asked for him to switch to Senate.
He had endorsed DeWine in the past. He has no beef with DeWine because Ohio delivered for him. DeWine is an incumbent and unless there was rampant election fraud in Ohio, he wasn’t going to go against him.
I’m still disappointed but it might have looked in bad form and maybe also there were enough votes for DeWine because of people who were scared of Covid thought he did a good job.
I think Blystone is what really did Renacci in with him coming out of nowhere and ruining it. And naïve voters. Renacci’s and Blystone’s votes combined beat out DeRINO.

I have often invited Treepers to investigate ranked voting as a tool to prevent splintering of the conservative base.
Understandably, the process seems novel and will be met with resistance by anyone who thinks the old way of doing things is always better. Regrettably, in this one case “conservative” is just a way to keep losing.
In my county (Clermont) the Republican party endorsed Renacci yet dewhine still got 46.67% which leads me to think a lot of dewhines votes were democrat spoilers on the theory the dems have a better chance of defeating the much reviled dewhine in the general.

You could be right, maybe I wasn’t looking in the right places but from what I read about Renacci he seemed as wishy washy as Dewine. IMO people voted for the devil they know rather than take a chance on someone else.
I posted about that yesterday and agree with you. Tim Ryan didn’t have any opposition and was a lock to be their nominee, so it would be easy to vote the R ballot. I thought they might do that to defeat Vance. But they could have also tried to influence the Governor race.
I think a large amount of credit for JD’s win goes to Tucker Carlson who has been promoting JD Vance for at least a year having him on his show countless times. Getting that kind of exposure from the most influential conservative voice on cable news had to have made a huge impact. It lifted him out of relative obscurity. I think also JD Vances anti-war stance made a huge difference. Most voters are smart and can see what is happening in Ukraine and are sick of seeing America being dragged into another useless war – this time a war that could end civilization as we know it.

Vance is a roll of the dice – that appears true to me. IMO he made a huge gain when he came out strongly against the Ukraine War. Personally think Mandel badly hurt himself with his endorsement of a no fly zone.

Well, all I can say is his family are all registered Republicans and probably Trump supporters and I’m sure he’d hear it from them if he turns RINO. I will hope he does the right thing.

The “long ball” action is at the state level. Staring googlee-eyed at the pol of the moment will get us nowhere. I’m not that enthralled with who wins what at the DC level. They’ll all disappoint in the end. McConnell and McCarthy will get their mitts on them, throw a couple kibble treats out for the crowd and in the end do nothing. I wish Mr. Vance and all the others running for a seat at the DC trough well and hope they prove me wrong but I doubt it. The states need to resume control over the federal behemoth. Until then it just Bread and Circus.

Trump screwed up in PA. Endorsing Oz wasn’t the best move.
I don’t know many people people who are even thinking of voting for Oz. He’s a carpetbagger, and a RINO. That’s without talking about all the other downsides to him.
One of the 3 lesser knows would have been a much better choice for Trump.
He endorsed some long shot in Wisconsin only for his stance on election fraud and yet could not elevate third ranking Kathy Barnette in the polls by endorsement? He must have some friendship or something with Dr. Oz and it could have been a big snub if he didn’t, I don’t know why he did what he did but I do believe people are mad and desperate to fix the inflation and this economy, they will be compelled to vote for America First because they are upset with the Dems.
Dr. Oz’s history of political stances is very disturbing. Doesn’t even sound moderate. President Trump will hear it from me if we see any bullcrap from this guy in the Senate.

My family moved to Ohio in 1963. In my humble opinion, we have never had a good governor of this state. Not one. DeWine did just sign Constitutional Carry, no doubt part of the campaign but his covid response has been horrendous. Totally destructive to the state. And, you may recall, he was one of the first governors to the party on this which was a great influence on other states. Disheartening.
He WAS the first. Just like Fox News was chosen to lead the way on President Trump’s defeat, DeWine was chosen to lead the way on lockdowns. Apparently, they *think* Republicans will take the news better if they hear it from a Republican.
…..And WHY Trump came here and endorsed that RINO Vance is astonishing. Had he endorsed Renacci for Governor, we may have been able to unseat the worst of RINO’S DeWine. I can tell you one thing….As a Christian Conservative, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES will I vote for either one of those RINO’S in November…ABSOLUTELY NOT….
