The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are the federal police for Canada. As many local law enforcement communities have refused to move against their own citizens, the Canadian government is now deploying the RCMP against the Alberta trucker blockade.
The border crossing between Coutts, Alberta (CA) and Sweet Grass, Montana (USA) continues to be blocked as truckers allied against COVID-19 restrictions and vaccine passports are united. The Alberta protests are in support of the larger trucker protest taking place in Ottawa.
Tensions are increasing as the truckers are refusing to move, but the RCMP has vowed to get rid of the blockade. Supporters for the truckers are working through freezing temperatures to keep them supplied with food and fuel to keep the blockade in place. Even farm tractors have joined the effort.
The standoff continues as the RCMP have been reluctant to forcibly arrest the rather hardened and burly truckers. There is also a legal defense fund established to assist the truckers against any criminal charges. [SEE HERE]
Canadian state media, aka the CBC, are trying to frame the protesting truckers as villains and violent fringe extremists. However, after calling the essential working truckers heroes previously, the majority of the Canadian people, specifically the people in/around the Alberta province, are not buying the nonsense from the CBC as supported by the leftist government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

If I recall correctly, Alberta does not have its own provincial police force. They contract with the RCMP to provide that service. So saying that “federal police” have been deployed isn’t quite accurate, since the RCMP wear both hats in Alberta, so to speak.
Doesn’t make it right, mind you. But accuracy is still important.
Yesterday there was a video of an RCMP official discussing the blockage issue with the truckers. The official mentioned that his grandfather was a trucker, and that he understood their perspective. He spoke very calmly, and was not issuing any hard ultimatums. Of course, he has his orders, and is attempting to persuade the truckers to end the blockade.
Could it be that the RCMP sympathizes with the truckers, and are just “going through the motions” of law enforcement as regards the Canadian Truck Convoy and its objectives?

My impression when I watched that video was that this was very strategic. The RCMP official was calm, professional, and gave the appearance of genuinely wanting to work with the truckers to ensure they could “lawfully protest,” a phrase he used repeatedly. I could not help but wonder if, as a law enforcement officer, he was trained and skilled at how to move a situation bit-by-bit toward the ultimate goal, kind of like being the good cop in a good cop/bad cop scenario, knowing that this position would not be maintained indefinitely and could/would advance to the next level as needed, which could be a time in the very near future.

Only Quebec, Ontario and Newfoundland have their own Provincial police forces. All other Provinces use the Mounties for policing, outside of cities or certain regional areas around big cities large enough to have their own municipal forces. Canada is very lightly policed compared to the US. There isn’t a Sheriff’s dept operating as a law enforcement agency in every County. County Sheriffs in Canada only handle civil matters like in UK.

Beautiful. Amen. I prayed for them before I went to bed last night for His protection of their just cause. All humanity is with these noble men who do their jobs and live a solitary life while they drive across the long miles. Peace be with them with God’s hand on their shoulders and our support ringing in their ears!
