The remarkable aspect to this announcement is the openness of DirecTV’s admission.
Following on the heels of the demand from the White House to start blocking content against the interests of the Biden administration, DirecTV the satellite television communication company now part of the AT&T network, has announced their decision to drop the One America News Network (OANN) channel because OAN is perceived to be supportive of Donald Trump.
(Bloomberg) – DirecTV, one of the largest U.S. pay-TV providers, plans to drop One America News Network, dealing a major blow to the conservative channel that’s been criticized for spreading misinformation and had a loyal fan in former President Donald Trump.
The satellite-TV provider has notified OAN’s owner, Herring Networks Inc., that it plans to stop carrying the company’s two channels when their contract expires. Herring Networks also owns AWE, a lifestyle channel that stands for “A Wealth of Entertainment.”
“We informed Herring Networks that, following a routine internal review, we do not plan to enter into a new contract when our current agreement expires,” the company said in an emailed statement to Bloomberg News.
DirecTV’s contract with Herring Networks expires in early April, according to a person familiar with the matter. Herring Networks didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. (read more)
Given the fact that Joe Biden only holds support of somewhere around 30% of the country, this move by AT&T/DirecTV is quite remarkable.
One would think that someone in the corporate boardroom, perhaps someone associated with the best business decision, would give pause to any consideration of kowtowing to the demands of cancel culture.
Alas, it seems that voice was not present, or at least insignificant to the objectives of the corporate decisionmakers.
Any corporation making politics the central point of their business intent is automatically reducing the potential audience by half. There must be a strongly declining business model for the satellite broadcasting industry as a whole in order to make such a decision.
Perhaps the subscription-based entertainment and news alternatives have eroded the baseline for the TV business. I genuinely do not know. However, on its face, this type of a corporate decision seems like financial suicide.
Even DirecTV customers who may not watch OAN, yet retain some reasonable disposition to see a slippery slope as it becomes evident, are likely to view this decision negatively.
Regardless of the internal or background conversation, one thing is certain, DirecTV will lose more customers than it will gain. That is just a predictable outcome whenever you make political affiliation a litmus for a product.

AT&T is the corporate parent of CNN. So it’s no surprise it’s run by a bunch of hardcore leftists.
If I used DirectTV I’d cancel them and get another provider.
My decision is to do just that. Pay what amounts to car payment to Direct TV monthly, but not anymore.

Too late for ATT. I already cancelled them. Most of what they have is commercial sales channels. As a family we might have watched maybe 6-8 channels regularly. For what they’re charging, it wasn’t worth it. Went to a digital antennae for less than one months cost and same regular channels.
With my digital antenna I get 80+ channels FREE.
It’s a no-brainer.

Media Matters appears to have a scalp. MM is now pressuring Verizon to drop them.
MM boasting on its site: “Since February 2021, Media Matters has been campaigning to get OAN’s current cable providers to drop the channel and to prevent prospective providers from picking up the channel.”

I called directTV earlier (800-531-5000) to find out when my contract was up and to tell them that having OANN is one of the FEW things that makes directtv different from other carriers. I also told them the blogs are blowing up about this and I was NOT the only customer they would loose if they removed OANN. I told them there were thousands of people out there that would find another provider if they removed OANN. It seems that OANN’s contract is good until April anyway. I guess I’m going to have to look into the FTA satellite, I’m too far out for an antenna and cable is non-existent here. Heck we’re lucky to have land line because cell is sporadic at best. Gotta have TV for my husband, he doesn’t even know how to turn on a computer and still uses a flip phone and doesn’t text or take pics with it. Yup, we’re old folks.
What’s old? I’m 72 and super literate about smart phones. My mom is 90 and gets it to….keeps one mind healthy.
You need to do two things quickly. See if your in an area that is covered by 3g cell phone service that is about to be turned off. If so, start organizing on your county to subsidize or cajole at least 4g, if not 5g towers to keep emergency communications. Then, get on the waiting list for Starlink internet service. It will quickly become the only satellite service worth the money. It will support current streaming applications and very advanced voip service with video calls.
Just for information for anyone who may need it, don’t overlook that the GM Onstar service, and the similar in car links, are satellite based and can be used to summon help from anywhere, if you should have them. They will help in any emergency, it doesn’t have to be a crash or breakdown. And they know where you are.
Or, you can just get a ham radio and license si you can talk to Bruce and Nellie.

Warroom is really the only show I watch, and only the afternoon/evening hour.
A very odd thing happened a week back – my internet went down for an hour, and Pluto TV still worked. I assumed it was broadcast for all the local channels and streamed for the rest, but America’s Voice still came in – very strange.

We have UVerse, but OANN is on there, with no indication that it will be deleted. However, if it is, then I will raise holy cane about it. That is the only news channel that we watch.
Graham Ledger was great as was Emerald Robinson. I used to enjoy how you got a whole condensed version of world events in 30 minutes. I do not get live feed on Roku but get some of the shows.

I recently set up this for internet out here and now have pretty much unlimited internet bandwidth (use discretion). NOt super fast but enough to stream movies, old TV shows etc from the many free internet streaming sources using a cheap Roku. About $60/mo but you need to buy a modem/router.

Roku here. They have OAN, Newsmax, and some other ok news shows. They ain’t Chronicles or New American but ok.
I believe that Rumble can feed through Roku. From that it’ll pick up New American (if you subscribe to it via Rumble).
I don’t know anyone under 50 that has “TV” anymore. Everyone streams the content they prefer. The 50-65s are split, only the old folks still watch TV. Their days are numbered either way.
I still prefer Dvd’s to streaming if I watch a movie. I cut the cable years ago.
it depends on where you live. City people have no problem streaming but it’s a bit harder in rural areas.
True. I recently sold a residence in an area served by CenturyLink/Lumen. Just 20 miles from a major metropolitan area. The only landline option was 1.5Mbps DSL service. They classify it as broadband service. Charge the same, or higher, price paid by other customers who are provided up to 100Mbps.

Sort of hard to drop AT&T. I switched to Pure Talk to escape Verizon. Pure talk is not AT&T but they lease space on their bandwidth. My ISP is the local cable company owned by the city as part of the electric company. Their main data line to the internet is leased from AT&T.
Just told the family I will be looking tomorrow for a new plan.

I ditched Direct TV long ago. I refuse to pay for cable or satellite knowing part of my subscription fees go to the likes of CNN, MSNBC, ESPN, et al. Do not feed the beast.
The only reliable internet out here in the boonies is through the cable company so we hang on to the most basic service with the internet. Cable is pretty handy when tornadoes are bearing down. Nobody really does very local severe weather like local TV. Weather channel is nearly worthless. I end up using local TV plus windy.com and ventusky.com and avoid the commercial web sites. Among the three of them I know when to head to the basement.

I dropped Verizon in favor of Pure Talk. Service has been a bit better than just OK so that means it beat Verizon. However, Pure Talk leases its bandwidth from AT&T. They are literally everywhere.

The only time I put my TV on is to watch a movie on Blu-ray.

I left Direct TV a few years ago mainly due to their poor service. It would take 2-3 weeks for them to fix the problem, meanwhile I had no TV service & had to fight w/ them to give me a refund for the days I had no TV service.
AT&T same thing but worse. Also- AT&T despises their employees & especially their customers. I’ve had several AT&T employees, including one of my brothers tell me that AT&T treats them like caa-caa. AT&T actually tell their employees that they don’t care about their employees.

I canceled my contract with DirecTV several years ago because I was being forced to pay for channels I never watched (ESPN, etc.).
I don’t think DirecTV is “kowtowing to cancel culture.” I think they’re doing the bidding of their CCP overlords.
They are poking fingers in the holes of a leaking dam of information and it won’t work. The institutions have lost their credibility by treating the people like morons. Their arrogance is their weakness. What they will accomplish is fanning the flames of desire for MORE information while further raising suspicions concerning what “business” they really are engaged in.

Along with all kinds of other types of shows. A few junk channels like CNN but nobody watches that tripe anyway. Everything is free, been using it for a couple years

We quit the cables years ago. I have AT&T, but I’m going to find another carrier. Been thinking about doing it but just never have. But since this happen, I’m going to look either Monday or Tuesday and switch. A lot of these corporations just don’t when to keep their trap shut.
I canceled UVerse TV over a year ago. I still have T for internet as I’ve not found an alternative provider yet. But I’m working on it.
Verizon or Tmobile imternet at home. 50 to 65 $/mo, unlimited gb. If your in 5g, it is there or coming soon.
I use a Tmobile 5g mifi that is $60 month gor 100gb. Far more than I need, and easily portable. I’m at 140mbits with only 2 bars.
Sadly, T and Verizon aren’t any better in supporting leftist. Least noxious poison that suites the purpose.

Anyway, here are some options for cutting the cord/satellite. Several commentators, such as Beck and Bongino, talk about building the parallel economy to get away from the companies that don’t do what we want. Going to these options would help with that.
Pluto.tv – not current network shows but multiple news channels, including OAN Plus (reruns of selected shows from the network), Newsmax, Blaze Live, America’s Voice and The First, along with a lot of old TV shows and movies on demand, crime shows, etc. It’s free and I’m currently binging on Burn Notice on demand
Klowdtv.com – subscriptions are $4.99 and $9.99 per month. Both have OAN Live and AWE.
TuneIn Radio – has free and premium options with lots of network news channels available on the app
Paramount+ – lots of entertainment options but no conservative news. You can see most CBS shows on it. The Essentials package is $5/month and the only reason I have it is because my cell phone provider, T-Mobile, is giving it to customers for free for a year. Unfortunately, none of the major cell carriers such as Patriot Mobile can handle smart watches so we are stuck with a major carrier right now.
