The remarkable aspect to this announcement is the openness of DirecTV’s admission.
Following on the heels of the demand from the White House to start blocking content against the interests of the Biden administration, DirecTV the satellite television communication company now part of the AT&T network, has announced their decision to drop the One America News Network (OANN) channel because OAN is perceived to be supportive of Donald Trump.
(Bloomberg) – DirecTV, one of the largest U.S. pay-TV providers, plans to drop One America News Network, dealing a major blow to the conservative channel that’s been criticized for spreading misinformation and had a loyal fan in former President Donald Trump.
The satellite-TV provider has notified OAN’s owner, Herring Networks Inc., that it plans to stop carrying the company’s two channels when their contract expires. Herring Networks also owns AWE, a lifestyle channel that stands for “A Wealth of Entertainment.”
“We informed Herring Networks that, following a routine internal review, we do not plan to enter into a new contract when our current agreement expires,” the company said in an emailed statement to Bloomberg News.
DirecTV’s contract with Herring Networks expires in early April, according to a person familiar with the matter. Herring Networks didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. (read more)
Given the fact that Joe Biden only holds support of somewhere around 30% of the country, this move by AT&T/DirecTV is quite remarkable.
One would think that someone in the corporate boardroom, perhaps someone associated with the best business decision, would give pause to any consideration of kowtowing to the demands of cancel culture.
Alas, it seems that voice was not present, or at least insignificant to the objectives of the corporate decisionmakers.
Any corporation making politics the central point of their business intent is automatically reducing the potential audience by half. There must be a strongly declining business model for the satellite broadcasting industry as a whole in order to make such a decision.
Perhaps the subscription-based entertainment and news alternatives have eroded the baseline for the TV business. I genuinely do not know. However, on its face, this type of a corporate decision seems like financial suicide.
Even DirecTV customers who may not watch OAN, yet retain some reasonable disposition to see a slippery slope as it becomes evident, are likely to view this decision negatively.
Regardless of the internal or background conversation, one thing is certain, DirecTV will lose more customers than it will gain. That is just a predictable outcome whenever you make political affiliation a litmus for a product.

As we know, shortly after J6 Salem (if I recall correctly) ordered all of its talk radio hosts to not discuss the coup. Therefore they all became accessories-after-the-fact to treason (in my opinion). If any talk radio hosts still stood strong in support of our country and its Constitution, I am open to being corrected.

I dropped DirectTV soon after the 2020 election. My only regret was that I had to catch OANN online. There are a few Fox people that I still like to watch. There were really not any shows that interested me on satellite TV. My life has been better without it for the past year. Not only that, but the money can better spent somewhere else.
To really get their attention, sell any AT&T stock you have. Imagine if half the country began dumbing AT&T stock on Tuesday.

The video that was released two days later clearly showed that NO such thing had happened but no investigation was ever done into his totally false accusations. That was in September 2017 and my life has gone on quite fine since then and the Seahawks have gone from Super Bowl contenders to a crap team that can’t even make the playoffs! You can watch Roku without a “smart” TV. I have an older HD TV with an HDMI interface. Roku connects through your wi-fi and the HDMI port. Works great.
But you have to have dependable internet or cell service to stream anything. Can’t get either as far out as I live. Even a 30′ antenna won’t pick up the channels in Tyler (that is what dish and directtv consider our “local” channels).
Time to voice our outrage with Direct Dumb TV. They retract or many will cut them off. Open warfare is better , not hiding their agenda makes it easier to identify all enemies.

There’s one thing about Directv… they’ve been losing subscribers for years. Pretty much everyone caught onto DirecTV’s game (hardware that doesn’t work combined with contracts that cost way too much for channels nobody watches). I used to be a big watcher of them, but once I cut the cable a few years ago, it’s been so much better and cheaper. I was surprised when a DirecTV installer told me around 2017 that DirecTV was looking to stream over the Internet because I knew DirecTV would screw it up, and they did. Watching DirecTV subscriber numbers drop is second only to watching CNN/MSNBC audience numbers drop every quarter.

Cable is one of the first “luxury” expenses that will go bye-bye. It’s already going bye bye at 100 bucks a month for garbage (demographic biased; hint hint) programming that continues to remove good programming and adding it as extra charges.

Recall that OANN was on ROKU for 5 bucks a month in the early Trump days. OANN was also funky as all get out when they first started there, but they didn’t actually pick it up a notch or two. They probably can go back to subscription and more money now that other subscription streaming services are out there. (Sling, Hulu, Amazon, CommieTube, etc.)
I finally cut the cord two years ago. Haven’t looked back…..

The big cell phone operators have been said to receive more money in govt contracts, subsidies, and hidden govt compensation for access to your data than they receive in subscription fees. They supposedly hide it in financial statements as subscription income so there is no line item disclosure. As the wireless industry and the isp’s become indistinguishable, if this is so, we will see the federal govt have increasing control over our information access. I’ve prowled deep enough in the industry to see the effects of the influence, but never the proof.

I have AT&T cable, part of my homeowners association deal. And I get OAN and view occasionally when nothing else appeals but find it mostly boring. Still, I like having the choice available. It will be interesting to watch what happens.

1) OAN is not criticized (by whom, as usual, is never stated) for “allegedly spreading misinformation.” Bloomberg makes a declarative statement OAN is “spreading misinformation.” There is no presumption of objectivity here on Bloomberg’s part, and no presumption of “innocence” on OAN’s part.
Anonymous opinion (criticism) is not only taken as fact, it is grounds for removal.
2) The author conflates the “crime” of “spreading misinformation” with having “a loyal fan in former President Donald Trump.” Thus, Donald Trump being a fan of you is also grounds for removal from society.

Biden is in violation of a 1973 SCOTUS ruling that the government “may not induce, encourage or promote private persons to accomplish what it is constitutionally forbidden to accomplish.”
