At first blush, this story seemed too bizarre to be true; alas it is not. [h/t Gateway Pundit] As noted by Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit, a few weeks ago the Salvation Army stepped into the social justice arena and began promoting the premise of white guilt.
According to an “internal study guide” from the charitable organization intended to “foster positive conversations and grace-filled reflection among Salvationists“, the white members and donors to the Salvation Army were requested to reflect on their inherent racism. According to the Salvation Army’s “International Social Justice Commission“, this was presumably of some charitable value.
Obviously, this request stirred up some controversy. In an era where the toxic issues around Critical Race Theory being taught in schools has been in the headlines, there is likely not a worse time for a charitable group to join the social justice cause and push CRT toward the aggregate public.
Many people were surprised by the decision of the Salvation Army to push the divisive issue of racism in what appeared to be an effort by the organization to enter the orbit of wokeism.
Quite frankly, I cannot reference a more ridiculous organizational decision than this example in recent memory. However, that said, while the original decision was nuts, the effort to clean up the mess they created for themselves is exponentially more nuts. Amid the backlash, the Salvation Army released the following statement:

The first thought of ‘what were they thinking‘, becomes compounded by realizing the Salvation Army is a partner with something called the “International Social Justice Commission.” I mean, seriously, what the heck is this all about?
Mistake one might be taking the intent of a historic organization away from charitable giving and into the toxic and divisive world of racial politics. Mistake number two is doubling down on the decision to engage with race in some ill-fated effort to establish politically correct bona fides.
If you wanted to completely destroy the guiding mission of a charity, the Salvation Army is showing everyone exactly how to do it.
I’m not sure what qualifications or prisms others use, but myself, as a donor, I want to see my money used by a charity in such a way as to care for people who are in the most need – and that has absolutely nothing to do with race or any other qualification. I am literally stunned by the intent of the Salvation Army in this mess, and their cleanup effort is even worse.
This is one of the biggest disappointments of the year, and yet, again shows that organizations can lose their entire purpose by following leadership making stupid decisions.
Jim Hoft follows up the issue with a highlight showing the Salvation Army is in a crisis now, because people are not giving to the charity at the time of year when the Christmas Season Salvation Army kettles usually raise a lot of money.
(Fox-13) […] Not only is the nonprofit organization short on donations, they also are in desperate need of bell ringers to staff the red kettles seen at businesses around the country. (read more)
Well, DUH! What exactly did The Salvation Army expect to happen?
Every Christmas for the last twenty years I take twenty-five one-dollar bills with me when I do my shopping. This year I took none. I actually felt a little guilty walking past those kettles without putting in my dollar bill.
No need to feel guilty. SA has publicly identified itself as a Leftist racist organization and can no longer be trusted with anyone’s donations. One good thing that has come of this is that SA now knows who their donors were.
Yes it is now crystal clear who the SA donors WERE. We have gotten the message and I for one will never donate to them again.
My WHITE money is too racist to be donated to SA. I will donate my money to other more worthy groups who do not have any hang-ups about the color of my skin.
How can you know? When the SA has gone to the dark side how can any of them be trusted? I always donated to Toys for Tots, SA, local Mission food charities, USO and several others along the same line, I just won’t do it now. I stopped buying Black Rifle coffee after the NYT’s interview, I am done supporting organizations and people that disrespect me and the values that had made America the best country the world had ever seen.
Do a search for “Appalachian food pantries”. There are a lot of them, and they could use the support.
I don’t know about the big, organized ones but there are a lot of small ones.
Hewitt is still running ads for Black Rifle. Surprised??
Samaritan’s Purse
yeah they will use your money for jet fuel…
I have a meager pension but I always try to give $1,000 each year in goods and cash to the Salvation Army. Sometimes if I haven’t reached that threshold by Christmas I gave my presents to make up the difference. Not this year. I will go directly to the streets and help where I can instead. Not only are we supposed to decry our white racist selves, in Canada the Salvation Army leadership requires all of their officers, employees, contractors and volunteers to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Those who do not comply will be laid off without pay on November 15, and be unable to serve their communities through their positions with the organization. They have been taken over by Woke angry leftists, bye, bye.
I am not a big giver by any means, but the dollars I gave were to the Salvation Army. No more. Not a penny.
They started caving when the militant buttboinkers went after them… Fell all over themselves trying to apologize to them. Pretty disgusting.
About 20 years ago hubby and I realized we did not need any organization to practice charity. In our daily lives of ordinary travel, errands, chores and human interactions we meet folks in need. God puts people in our path who might need emotional support, a physical hand or financial aid and we do our best to respond. Most organizations that we once trusted have shown themselves to be untrustworthy. We’ve eliminated the middleman.
^^^THIS^^^ is the way to do it. God Bless you for doing the walk!
Thank you for your kind words. We have been blessed in so many ways and do nothing extraordinary. May the Lord bless you, yours and all, especially at this joyful season.
Our family completely stopped donating to those national organizations like the Cancer or Heart research groups after fraud, theft and threats were spewed out by a state representative during the Cattleman’s Charity Ball back in the early 1990s.This fella trying to steal over 10 thousand dollars on the night of the event but the ranch ladies saw right through his lies. He was arrested, charged and sent to prison. The national group he was working for never admitted to the wrong and never apologized.
So we give locally and we know our donations get to the right persons and help.
👍
“Charity” in the Biblical sense is supposed to be one-on-one. You personally can’t garner any spiritual credit for voting for tax increases, for example, when they’re supposed to go to “charity”, or “giving at the office”. Something like the Salvation Army was a pretty believable middle-man between you and those directly in need. But obviously, no longer. And once they’ve done this (even doubled down on it) they can’t ever be trusted again, not without serious mea culpas and drastic changes which are unlikely to occur.
Unfortunately, where I live many people have made it their job to beg in front of stores, freeway on/off ramps, etc. So, I have stopped doing that now. 🙁
I give to street beggars – $1 or $2 which is not going to brake me nor rescue him or her. When he reaches for the money and before I let it go, I have about 30 seconds to witness for the LORD: “do you know that GOD ALMIGHTY loves you? Seek HIM & HE’ll make sure you find him. HE will change your life forever. Good luck to you my friend.” Then I leave, leaving him with GOD on his mind. It cost me a buck, big deal.
I vote that the CTH kitties are the most expressive ever! Love ’em!
Ditto on that one. Love them all.
Don’t worry. The Biden administration and/or Congress will unilaterally decide to cover their losses with out tax dollars.
let them go the way of the dodo.
I have no use for an organization that wishes to pervert itself by wallowing in the view that an entire race is collectively guilty.
I sometimes believe this was intentional from the Collectivist take over to it’s destruction as a way of removing all charitable organizations and churches as a way to force the nanny tyrannical government to be the only filler for help when needed.
As you know, once a government usurps an illegitimate or illegal power they are loath to relinquish it. But by that time they have destroyed charities and people helping in good faith and reinstalled themselves into another position of power and, of course because it’s a corrupt criminal government, grifting.
You’re giving them too much credit.
I deliberately boycotted the Target store near my Southern Md home one Christmas past because they wouldn’t let the Salvation Army set up outside their doors. Now if I see SA outside a store, I’m not shopping there.
I boycotted Target when they started the “transgender” invasion of rapists, pedophiles & perverts into our woman’s bathrooms, dressing rooms & locker rooms across our nation … now the trannies are stealing female athlete “victories”.
Isiah 5:20-21
evil is good – good is evil
So Kenneth Hodder Chairman of the Salvation Army, have you discharged your association with the International Social Justice Commission and dismissed the brainiacs who thought it was a good idea to call your white donors “racists”?
Until then; NOT ONE CENT!
They can pound sand as I’ll NEVER give them a penny ever again.
Is the Salvation Army’s International Social Justice Committee’s new definition of a “Salvationist” the same as a racist, white supremacist, or a communist? Nowadays, maybe the kettles are “red” for a different reason.
Anyway, let the leftist Marxist support the SA and see how that works out for these wokesters. Take some of that Soros money and put it to good use instead of spending it on “The Fundamental Transformation of America.” FJB
Everything woke turns to sh*t, some white guy once said. Seems he was right, again.
I’ve been woke since 6:00 am but don’t think it’s going to last past midnight.
It’s gotten so bad on Twitter that the Salvation Army is nof allowing comments on their posts…
Everywhere I go I see the bell ringers but I have not seen anyone put money in the kettles. None!
Those on unemployment and welfare aren’t known for generous contributions…
I bet the Salvation Army is doing this to appeal for a direct funding from the Government.
Do the best support the worst? Only in America!
That’s an exceptional kind of idiot who can stick a finger in MY chest and tell ME that I’M wrong for being a white man – and then, in the very next breath, show me their palm and tell me I OWE some of MY money to black people via the Salvation Army.
Molon labe, parasites.
How many Woke lemmings are there in America…
Too many
I’m worn out listening to walk-backs explaining to me what I “really”read or heard.
It’s insulting for these liberals to believe we can’t think and make decisions for ourselves.
Go Woke and Go Broke SA
The Buck Stops Here!
The salvation army can go suck on a fat one. They will never get anything from our family.
Go Woke and go broke.
Good job, SA! I have given to the Salvation Army for decades but that is over! Who do they think gives most to their organization? It’s the white people, that’s who. Well, here is one 75-year-old Caucasian who will find another place to give to and it most likely will be to up my giving to animal shelters. The animals appreciate it more than the SA morons and the greedy people they serve!~
We all know that most of the monetary giving being done in this country is by conservative minded people and not progressives. Prove me wrong.
The Slavenation Army…there, I fixed it.
I do/did?? donate in the barrels. Probably not now.
I still feel good about donating..I use Nashville Mission every year around Easter and Thanksgiving. And same for VA disability.
Exactly how the Left work: Unable to sell their message by being honest about what they stand for up front, they identify a popular, respected and (initially) apolitical organisation and infiltrate it. Many sports administrations get infected this way too.
Thou shall not take the Lord’s Name in vain.
Some people think all that means is don’t cuss using Jesus, or Christ, or God as a replacement for other more egregious words. It means that, and so much more.
The fact that the one time army of soldiers winning souls for Jesus Christ now quickly throws His name in at the end of their announcement as if to say, ‘Hey Christians, see, we’re still on the same side’ makes me sick. They take the name of the Lord in vain by using it as though it were a naked woman lying across a sexy car no one can afford.
If they actually followed the “model” set by Christ, they would be preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, and not the social justice lie.
I stopped donating to the Salvation Army when they start pushing the LGBTQ agenda. I would go out of my way to find a bell ringer with a red bucket. Never again.
Did not the Salvation Army get mega-millions as a legacy from Mr. Crock’s widow?
Do they actually need people to donate money?
I donate directly to my local church’s food bank and do a lot of animal rescue. So far, none of them have called me a racist for simply being white.
O’Sullivan’s first law: “All organizations that are not actually right-wing will over time become left-wing.”
Reminds me of a Christian based university that rejects Christ.
In partnership with International Social Justice Commission? BFS. Google for yourself. The ISJC is a DIVISION of Salvation Army, not a follower. They have so much money they can afford to pay New York City real estate prices or rent plus exhorbitant NYC taxes. Tell me again why anyone should donate to the Salvation Army. They’re as much of a scam as any charity out there.
Who would have thought that when you accuse someone of something they are not guilty of you get ire and righteous indignation?
I worked at a Salvation Army Corp for over 5 years as a social services coordinator/Girl Friday. I am not surprised this it the direction the organization is going. When I first started I was told that when money is given it will go where it specified, so I told everyone considering donating what I thought I knew to be true. I soon found out that it was a lie. I found out that all the money goes into a big fund and is distributed as the brass sees fit. All social services monies we distributed each month to help with utility bills, hotel rooms and bus tickets were given to us by the United Way, when that ran out of that money we stopped helping until the next 1st of the month. The Army paid for staff and such.
During bell ringing season, we were a small corps in a town of 48k, but we would bring in close to 60k in a 4 week period. All that was sent to Corporate and it is said applied to the expenses of running the Corp. Their human resources at the time was very sketchy and tip toed carefully around social issues and seemed very afraid of upsetting the “establishment”( That is what happens when you operate under a 501c3 tax exemption, You become part of the Beast System). PS I have heard that under the current administration the bell ringers are not bringing in even a third of what we did in 2014, which is the year I quit. I bet this year is even slimmer pickings with this “woke” crap coming out. William Booth is rolling over in his grave.
Marketing 101, never insult your customer base. Obviously not being taught in colleges anymore.
Reap what you sow!
Your harvest is over.
I worked for this organization in the Western U.S. It was one of the best jobs I ever had, not counting running my own business. I was paid exceptionally well, had a fine boss, and met great people. I left in 2003 when my goal to assist them was completed.
Words fail me. Unfathomable.
I will now do everything in my power to stop a legacy worth $100,000 from being paid to the Salvation Army on the grounds of breach of mission statement.
I have them as sole beneficiary on my will. Pissed, I’ve got to pay a lawyer to change it. Baaah-Bye SA
