Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear gave a terrible update about the devastation in the aftermath of the horrific tornadoes that hit overnight Friday into Saturday morning. According to the Governor, more than 70 are dead in a candle factory alone in Mayfield, and the death toll is expected to continue climbing as the list of missing people throughout the state is too long to fathom.
An official death count has not been released, but Beshear, appearing on CNN’s State of the Union, said at least 80 Kentuckians were feared dead with that number expected to rise. “I know we’ve lost more than 80 Kentuckians. That number is going to exceed more than 100,” he said. “This is the deadliest tornado event we’ve ever had.” WATCH:
Additional deaths have been reported outside of Kentucky including six at an Amazon warehouse in Illinois, four in Tennessee, two in Arkansas and two in Missouri. More drone footage of the devastation was released earlier today. [See Below]

So heartbreaking…. God bless these Families
You can’t convince me that Tapper or the Governor care much beyond the political gains to be made.
Of course this is sad. But it is also sad that the lost souls are used as political fodder.
Don’t fret…Bydumb is going to make sure it doesn’t happen again…He put the EPA on it…
Laughing my arse off at the insanity of that one and yet, sadly, it’s true.
Apparently we live in an age where whatever Mother Nature does, it now has a political narrative behind it that only the government can control. Nucking Futs Everywhere!
Beshear is from an old time political family. They are not DC politicians. Just because they are Democrats does not mean they don’t care. They really do care. It is just that all of their solutions are the wrong ones for the situation.
Respectfully,…I have a severe case of appendicitis, and its just burst. My Dr. REALLY cares about my well being.
But insists it just indigestion, and I should take some alka seltzer.
How important or relevant is it, that my Dr REALLY, REALLY CARES?
Better get your Covid shot ASAP. That will cure that appendicitis
I’m sure he cares about people that died in the storm.
However he is firmly behind every socialist anti-American thing that the Bidenista’s try to implement. He definitely doesn’t care about an individual’s right to decide how to take care of their own health.
He had no other solution but money. This interview would have been the time to call for volunteers to come and dig in the hopes of finding people. Come self contained. But the deer in the headlights didn’t say a word.
I don’t beleive that anymore.
Beshear won by fraud. He knows it. KY knows it. He will show his true colors under this fire.
14 day Andy puts on a good show. He has shown tears many times during the scamdemic but never released any detailed data to back up his numbers. He cried when the unemployment system couldn’t cut checks but blamed Bevin and never ever took his Lt Gov to task after she helped her friends cut the line and get paid. He cares about one thing – getting re-elected.
People are already mocking Republicans for not supporting green energy…saying this tornado is a result of climate change. December tornados have happened in the past. These people are psychos.
Probably China’s weather modification gift to McConnell.
Gave to Samaritan purse based on recommendation here. Not virtue signaling just remembered to do something this morning. Help anyway you can.
Mercy Chefs is good also.
I donated to godspitcrew.org Someone posted it here. They said it was good one also. Prayers to St. Jude help. The Saint of hopeless cases. I asked him to send rescue angels. Keep praying.
Also, I imagine there are many pets without homes and perhaps the shelters need help too. Does anyone know how we can help them too?

Thank you!
Thank you. Our church’s SP team arrived on site a few hours ago.
I live in the northern suburbs of Cincinnati and there is an amazing charity here called Matthew 25 Ministres m25m.org that responds to disasters all over the world. All of my children have done volunteer work there. If anyone wants to check their website out, they are more than a worthy organization to donate to help with the recovery in Kentucky and elsewhere.
https://m25m.org/
I used to live in Liberty Township. I’ve volunteered with M25M many times. Glad you recommended them!
Climate change?
FEMA actually used that this morning
SOB’s…. couldn’t wait for the bodies to chill.
My anger at Brandon and his owners/handlers/cabal is beyond belief.. I can not believe these cabrones would stoop so low.
FJB used it yesterday.
It is laughable that people believe they can change the weather. Clearly they never lived in a hurricane or tornado zone.
Liberals, looking at any situation/disaster, always always come to the wrong conclusions. They are as predictable as the sunrise.
I went to a local independent bookstore to buy a copy of RFK,Jr’s, ‘The Real Anthony fauci”, where I saw a book, “How to Talk To a Climate Denier”. The masked fool at the counter said, ” We don’t have THAT book” (Fauci) but I might be able to order one”. I replied, “Your website says you have several copies.” No he said, “We have had had trouble getting it.” Barack Obama picture books abound. Climate change books everywhere. I was disgusted and left. I absolutely guarantee this formerly Agriculture college town will NOT have one copy of this book at the public library either.
Good on you for bringing the book up, though. Thank you
Interesting, yesterday after watching the Highwire episode interviewing RFK, Jr ( thanks to the link I followed posted here on CTH ) I went to Barnes and Noble to buy a copy. It was the very last one they had. If that is indication the people are curious to know about the person who calls himself “Science” and is responsible for this “PLandemic” that would be a good thing. It would be even better if this informative work of research leads to Fauci’s prosecution for crimes against humanity.
I could give a break to some young people who don’t know better, but anyone who’s been on this earth 40 years or so remembers hundreds of natural disasters. The generation in school now will never recall a natural disaster that wasn’t caused by Glo-Bull Warming.
It’s unreal that democrats are already trampling the victims for their unfounded agenda. They do that whenever there is a mass shooting too. They are a disgrace to society.
As I live in Oklahoma City, I know well what this is like. Events like this have a way of reshaping how a society pays attention to severe weather. Certain parts of the country don’t take tornado warnings seriously and high death tolls are often a result of that. Sometimes sirens don’t blow at all, and if they do, nobody takes them seriously. Coupled with a probable lack of footage/chasers on the ground scaring people to take shelter with video and pictures of the large tornado heading toward your city, you end up with a lot of death. And then you need meteorologists who can relay this to people in a way they can act. Tornados like this are rare, but when they occur it takes a combination of ingredients to mitigate their death toll.
This will be Kentucky’s lesson. Alabama had their lesson years ago. Missouri with Joplin, etc. After May 3rd, 1999, here in Oklahoma severe weather & tornado warnings took on a far greater meaning to both people, news, and officials.
For instance, the 2013 F5 tornado that ripped once again through Moore Oklahoma, killed just twenty-four. I say just because the Joplin F5 tornado killed 161. This event will wakeup Kentucy in numerous ways. If Joplin is ever hit again by a tornado, that entire community will be far more prepared and ready than they were. As will Kentucky.
Freedom Over Fear, what do you think about laws that require buildings to be strong enough to withstand tornadoes, and laws that require buildings to have storm shelters? Would you change the laws if you could?
Preparation over fear. The use of deafening sirens, weather alerts sent to EVERY smart phone, and weather forecasters erring on the side of caution could be used to reduce the death toll.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Erring on the side of caution will get people so used to false alarms that they won’t seek protection when it is a real alarm.
The requirements (and price) to build a building to withstand an ef4-ef5 tornado are enormous. We’re talking about “winds” of 200-300 mph. The highest on Earth. A natural free-market response will always be generated in areas targeted by killer tornadoes. A school down in Moore Oklahoma rebuilt with a tornado safe area, I believe. And homes in these tornado-sensitive areas being rebuilt will have a high demand for a tornado shelter going forward, regardless of mandates. Force and coercion are always a bad idea unless it’s in defense of individual liberty.
Plus you’d have to demolish and rebuild nearly every small town Main Street in the midwest. Most date to the early-mid 20th century, when most commercial structures were built with unsupported brick walls, unstrapped roof trusses, and single-pane windows.
Thanks everyone, for your responses. Yes it must be expensive to build a building that can withstand such winds, especially if the building doesn’t look like a blockhouse. And of course there’s the question of laws vs. freedom.
I wonder if there’s a way to put a temporary protective barrier around a house – for example, strong walls around the house, which can be raised and lowered. Most of the time, the walls would be below ground. But when there was danger of a tornado, the homeowner could push a button to raise the walls, so that they were a protective barrier around the house. Of course that would work best for single-story structures. The homeowner could decide if he/she wanted to pay for those walls.
It seems like underground’s would be less expensive and more effective.
The first building shown in the imbedded drone video has cinder block walls covered with brick and it has holes blown through it. If that construction can’t hold up, how could we ever make the average home tornado proof?
That’s no reason to not take caution. This is a force of nature we’re talking about not some politician trying to mandate vaccines.
The problem in the South is nobody has a basement. I have lived in many southern states. I lived in Ga and l woke up one night to the sounds of horrific winds. We had business that supplied aggreates to a plant in GA. One night Straight Line Winds came to our place. Dumb ass me knew not to look out a window, but, my curiosity got the best of me. One of our Dump Trucks where parked on a pad next to our steel shed. My Dad, who was a brick mason built me a beautifull barbecue. When I looked out the window that night. I saw tons of my lobllay pines in the yard broken in half flying past that window. They never hit our Dump Truck nor my Dad’s beautifull brick barbecue. Our house was saved. Our fence was not. Minor stuff. I know Jesus saved us that night. I respect Mother Nature from that day . I pray to Saint Jude and Mother Mary. They always answer my prayers. I prayer for the people of these states. Rescue Angels will be there.
This storm blew apart brick buildings. Basements might help some but if the whole thing collapses on you.?
Perhaps they didn’t take it so seriously because it is December?
But, weather in the 60F’s in December.
I do agree with you that they will listen next time.
December tornado outbreaks don’t happen often, but when they do, they tend to develop huge super cell tornados.
The size of the cell relative to sustained winds is what made this one different. The winds were sustained outside the boundary of the most impacted states for probably a good 12 hours, starting early in the day. As it moved East it started to become more of a Tornadic Storm. This storm easily could have affected the states to the West of the impacted area, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, etc. but it didn’t. The winds in those states were fairly abnormal for most of the evening.
The storm itself was more of a wind event, which is normal for winter time. Then it changed into a tornadic event. That is what I believe caught most off guard.
Yes, I’m sure that is a part of it. But it’s a stew of ingredients. Some people have no idea what to do, where to go, in case of a tornado – or an appropriate level of respect for them, and they just sit there.
For example – this video is the most terrifying example of what not to do – but many people do – sit there.
Unfortunately, such memory is generational, and fades with time.
A massive level 5 hurricane hit New Orleans, in 1965 (named Betty).
In the aftermath, it became clear how many/most of the deaths occurred.
Often the elderly, or women with children; as the waters rose, they stayed IN the house, and moved to higher ground, from first floor to second, and then up into the attic.
And the water continued to rise, trapping them in the attic, and drowning them as they had no escape.
Many had broken hands, from futilely attempting to punch a hole, through the roof, to get out.
And so, in the aftermath, a colloquial expression became popular: “Always keep an ax in your attic!”
But, years past, old people died or moved, new people moved in,..and when Catrina hit, the death toll was very similar, and for the same reason.
In Japan, in the 1500’s, there was a terrible Tsunami, …in the aftermath the people erected large stone monoliths, marking how far inland the water had gone, with the idea that no one would build buildings beyond that point.
Didn’t work, the stones became overgrown with moss, and people forgot, and development spread right down to the shoreline.
And, of coarse another massive tsunami hit, and they even had a NUCLEAR GENERATING plant, Fukishima, built basically right at the waters edge.
People forget. While the sentiment is understandable, vows to “Remember (the alamo, pearl harbor, etc.) or “NEVER FORGET (911, etc.) are, unfortunately futile.
At best, it works for awhile.
I guess I have to be thankful for my anxiety sometimes. It makes me go on researching sprees when I want to get a better idea of a situation I could be in.
This event was far different than past well known storms that produced large tornado’s. The size of it and more than anything the sustained wind even outside the tornadic regions was quite extensive, almost like a hurricane on land. That being said, it’s not climate change as Biden says, it was just weather, weather that is never the same, and always evolving.
With Brandon and his ilk, every tragedy is the result of climate change, or unvaccinated people. Or both.
How long before we hear it was God punishing the unvaccinated?
Or President Trump.
Anyone know whether text alarms or alerts go out to warn of tornados?
Safe rooms are a must for all. Even a mound covered shipping container.
Freedom over Fear
Have you actually ever lived in Alabama, or even visited there for at length? I was raised there, and have also spent a lot of time in Oklahoma, too.
You seemingly think folks in Alabama are dumb, unprepared, or don’t take tornadoes seriously, and that is the cause for the very high death toll there. If you were from there, you’d know better. People there are VERY tornado savvy….they’ve been there, done that, going way, way back. Drive around northern Alabama. You will see more storm pits and shelters than in Oklahoma, probably. And an extremely high rate of well built houses, with full underground basements I’ve spent many a night in one (storm pit) back in the day. Way before 2011….
The real reasons for the higher death tolls are:
Alabama is tied with Oklahoma for F/EF 5 tornadoes. And they tend to hit only the northern half of the state….more EF5’s than all of Texas, in a much smaller area. With a lot more dense populations.
Not to mention all the EF3’s and 4’s.
It’s all hills and hollers, and trees, not wide open flat country like Oklahoma. Not exactly ideal to be able to even see a tornado coming, or for siren sound waves to carry very far, or try to chase a tornado and report its position. Tornado chasing can get you killed in flat, open Oklahoma with miles and miles of straight, grid like roads. It can get you killed real quick in Alabama, with winding curvy roads, often with trees already down across them, and no way around on tornado days with high winds.
Back in ‘74, one night an F5 tornado hit west of the Huntsville, Alabama area…30-45 minutes later another F5 went roaring through the same track, taking out the rescuers that had been starting to help the victims of the first F5.
I think the Bridge Creek tornados is the closest to ever hitting downtown Oke City. One bad EF4 or EF5 hitting the metro area could easily get Oklahoma past Alabama for the state with most fatalities record.
Absolutely heartbreaking!
I live in Kentucky and fortunately the storms missed our town. But my heart goes out to those who were impacted in our state and throughout the region. May God bless all of these people and their families.
Absolutely mind numbing devastation.
May God comfort the families who lost loved ones.
May He welcome their souls to the firmament of heaven.
Beshear seems like a very nice sincere guy but I have no doubt he’d sell out Kentuckians at the drop of a hat!
Well, after all, he IS a Democrat. That is what Democrats do–its who they are.
About an hour away from Mayfield here. One of our church members lives in Mayfield and his home was spared but no power and gas was turned off in the area yesterday so he has no heat. Another member couple’s son and his family lost their home, but their lives were spared by staying at the other parents’ home. My brother’s son-in-law went the night of the tornado aftermath to assist in recovery at the candle factory. They pulled out the living and the dead. Many crushing injuries. They had just pulled out a fatality just as the man’s cell phone in his pocket began to ring. It is horrific and the entire region is in shock. Nevertheless relief efforts are underway. Our Methodist Church is helping, as well as the Methodist District churches. UMCOR is the National Methodist relief core and they go in immediately, many times faster than the Red Cross. They are a worthwhile organization in which to donate. They will be helping the entire region.
OMG… what do you do in that case?
You have to answer the phone…
I don’t know what he did for sure. I think he didn’t answer, waiting on the officials to notify. As a retired nurse and a mother, I think I would have had to answer. I pray I am never in that position.
Here’s a comprehensive list for shelters and donation sites:

DJ,
Thanks for the tip on UMCOR. We were very fortunate here in central Ky. Just the usually tree damage. Some friends of a friend of my wife in Dawson Springs weren’t so lucky. They were heading to the basement when the house collapsed. They would have been trapped if the were in the basement. They got out with only minor injuries.
So thankful you and they were spared.
A good reminder that calling the cell phones of missing people could help rescue workers find them.
Great point, thank you.
Prayers for the victims and families, what an awful mess.
The media will probably blame it on global warming or President Trump.
Actually, they will probably blame PDJT FOR Global warming, and the tornadoes on global warming,..see how that works?
Already done.
A couple of stories from what are undoubtedly countless more like them that are true inspiration.

Mayfield reminds me of the Greensburg, KS devastation. It’s been 14 1/2 years since they were hit with an E5.
OK folks, from on the ground here in Kentucky. Yes, Samaritan’s Purse has set up and is working from a base of operations at Eastwood Baptist Church parking lot.
There are people going on TV that are saying that are taking donations for Bowling Green and Mayfield. There is some question to their legitimacy.
In their place, I recommend Forrest Park Baptist Church. They have already mobilized help for the people in their community. Very hard hit was the low income area of town that they serve. That is where I would suggest. It is the opposite side of town from where SP is set up.

One cannot even imagine this type of devastation.. Prayers to All.. Donations will be critical for these poor people… Maybe FJB will re-route the $450K he wants to give to *illegals* to our *citizens* of Kentucky!!!
“Maybe FJB will re-route the $450K he wants to give to *illegals*” to Build Kentucky Back Better.
MTG should DEMAND it!
Great weather today and lots of work getting done. Still digging out. Lots of churches and relief organization are on the ground. Local community teams are providing security. Bowling Green safe from looters for now. No rain until Thursday and temps in high 50’s low 60’s. The rescue and recovery work will move very fast. We have almost no high rise housing. Almost everything including poor areas are single family or apartments of three floors or less.
The daily needs are being met. Food, warmth, security and spiritual.
For those that are uncomfortable seeing people of all races and income levels working side by side and praying arm in arm, I suggest you do not come around. We got this.
For everyone else, there will be lots to do, but we will soon be at the bulldozer and dump truck stage.
Thanks for the ground report from Bowling Green Vibeman.
So when is The Real President, going to show up., we all know the election was stolen.
I’d love to see Trump show up and make a major donation or bring his own construction crew and do something significant.
A good version of let’s go brandon
LOL. yes. “Vamos Brandon! I love my freedom”
and the crowd also loves their beer… nice one

Beshar can eat toe jam as far as I’m concerned. This phony was only too willing to put ankle bracelets on families to be sure they were in quarantine. He’s a putz and stupid. No, I don’t live in KY, just close enough to hear plenty. One of my coworkers wasn’t allowed to cross the state line to visit family last year. KY HP was told to issue fines and arrest for out of state plates.
Not an Andy fan either, but now is the time to pull together.
Did I miss it, or has FJB not said a thing about this other than his admistration on Clumate Change?
I would like to know what early warning systems were in place? Where I live if it looks like one of these storms is even getting close loud sirens are going off, radio and tv shows are pre-empted, the cell phone is making loud sounds.
Just what did the governor do to prepare the people in the path of this storm? The people in charge of monitoring the storm had to see it coming.
Where I live in FL there are no sirens but anyone with a cell phone gets an alert complete with blaring siren sounds.
My wife’s cell phone went off loudly. I slept right through it.
Que all the global warming freaks to claim this is just proof that the world will end if you don’t give up fossil fuels.
this reminds me that Beshear was elected by the corrupt illegal voting machines in his state.
Once your town has been hit like ours, twice in 5 days in 1979 , one on Sunday the next on the following Thursday, you learn to keep your eyes and ears open. Big prayers from AR
Why didn’t the climate alarmists predict this? Surely their models accurately know the weather patterns in advance.
The town is so destroyed, I wonder if they will rebuild. They probably will since they will get lot’s of federal money.
Beshear will now demonstrate just how fast and far his Demo☭rat plan to “Build Back Better” makes a difference.
The end of the segment about climate change was gag worthy. How do people watch these people and take them seriously? It really is offensive to watch Tapper’s concerned face. He has a bit of a lisp too, Sundance is onto something.
Still hoping they will find a few more people. Many kudos to the people that will give up their Christmas so they can go and help.
Absolute devastation. Words are hard to come by to address this horrific event!
Sundance-
I have been an avid reader for several years, and would smile when listening to Rush podcasts as he would mention, or quote your great and insightful work.
We live 2 miles north of the path of this storm. Train derailment just south of our home. Another city, Dawson Springs, KY, was also wiped out.
Thank you for calling attention to this event. I know your audience is compassionate and fortunate. Please consider giving to organizations that will support the need and rebuild here in West KY.
God Bless-
I have a great deal of family in Mayfield. They are devastated. My own town was hit hard with several close friends lost a year and a half ago. These events are devastating, but they build community. Help is appreciated. Those who bring only drama are ignored politely, then dealt with.
Prayers for all affected by this disaster.
Am sure help for housing, food, burials, health care, & reconstruction, would be immediate were you at the Border.
Prayers for all the people
Basically, a land based hurricane.
What happened to the early tornado warning systems?

UPDATE on candle factory …
Officials initially said only 40 of 110 workers at Mayfield Consumer Products had been rescued. But spokesman Bob Ferguson now says eight people are confirmed dead, eight are missing and more than 90 people have been located.
