This is a follow-up to the original explanation of the epicenter of the supply chain backlog issue, ie “The Clog“. {GO DEEP} You need to review the years-long and building background issue to understand the fubar that Joe Biden has just made worse.
From the White House perspective, the problem at the California ports, specifically the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) and the Port of Long Beach (POLB), was visible due to hundreds of container ships sitting in a queue off the coast of Los Angeles awaiting their opportunity to offload their cargo. The media was reporting on the backlog of ships and Joe Biden was under fire.
The team behind Joe Biden wanted the optics removed asap. Hence, the White House meeting with the heads of the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, Gene Seroka and Mario Cordero, respectively.
The continuing supply chain crisis of empty store shelves, missing parts and component goods that are backlogged at the California ports may be politically represented by the optic of those floating vessels. However, that’s not the problem.
The problem is a shortage of CA emission compliant internal transportation trucks to move the containers out of the port and into the U.S. mainland.
As a result… the politically expedient goal to get rid of the optical problem (the ships) by offloading containers into a California port system, that is already overwhelmed with tens-of-thousands of containers, is only making the original issue exponentially worse.
With hundreds more containers being offloaded hourly, the port infrastructure needed to load trucks long-sitting in the queue to pick up containers that arrived weeks ago is collapsing.
Truckers are waiting for over 8 hours to pick up their freight because the yards are swamped with containers. As each hour passes, more containers are offloaded into the port that can no longer deal with the scale of the problem. Each individual container is now buried in an avalanche of more containers, and that is making the limited compliant trucking resources even more problematic….. “containergeddon“.
Long before the ships started lining up offshore, many massive multinational corporations could foresee what was happening. They diverted their contracted freight into alternative ports (outside California) and began setting up new transportation arrangements. Two things happened:
(1) The alternative ports started getting backed up due to the redirected cargo arriving; and
(2) The shifted Trucking and Railroad system priority now meant resources were pulled from California.
With trucking companies redirecting resources away from California, this exacerbates the California backlog. Suppliers and retailers then enter a bidding war for priority distribution to get their stuff and avoid the clogs. This is a perfect storm of disruption in the supply chain aptly called “containergeddon.” However, not all ports can offload ships with thousands of containers. Not all ports have massive gantry cranes that can efficiently offload the cargo.
Back in California (where POLA and POLB do have the gantry cranes), now you have Los Angeles port workers saying we are offloading ships at maximum productivity, and truck drivers saying they’ve been sitting around for hours, some even days, waiting to pick up their containers. Meanwhile, other ports outside California are under pressure from the rerouted backlog of container vessels, and a limited amount of resources, trucks and railroad shipments to clear their arrivals.
Port workers are saying it’s not their lack of offloading that creates the problem, and the truckers are saying it ain’t us… “we’re sitting here waiting”.
♦ Few people are paying attention to what actually created the crisis in the first place.
The backlog all comes from California West Coast ports. It’s the issues with the new California emission regulations {Go Deep} that created the regional bottleneck in the distribution pipeline. The growing issue started becoming visible several months/years ago when the California Air Resource Board (CARB) announced the new environmental regulations.
As a direct result, several massive multinational corporations, with specifically concerned supply chain and logical operations specialists, immediately recognized the issue they would face if 50+ percent of the diesel fleet (writ large) would be blocked from entering California ports. That’s why months ago massive corporations began exclusive shipping contracts to avoid the California created crisis:
REUTERS – […] “The dry bulk cargo ship has been drafted into the service of retail giant Walmart, which is chartering its own vessels in an effort to beat the global supply chain disruptions that threaten to torpedo the retail industry’s make-or-break holiday season.
[…] Other big retail players, such as Target, Home Depot , Costco and Dollar Tree, have said they are chartering ships to deal with the … slowdown of sea networks that handle 90% of the world’s trade.” (link)
It costs more money, a lot more money, to move an entire supply chain for billions of tons of goods coming. The increases in shipping costs are passed along to the consumer.
Hence, we see prices climbing as a result of increased transportation costs being factored in to the new logistics. Did you hear about massive increases in container shipment prices? Well, THAT’S WHY.
The entire supply chain from Asia to the United States was being modified from the closest port (California), which was cost effective, to the ports where internal transportation would not be an issue.
Ships from China and SE Asia were being diverted away from California, some through the Gulf of Mexico into Texas, Louisiana, Alabama ports or inland waterways. Some even headed to the East Coast. However, any shipment diverting from the West Coast has to go through the Panama Canal into the Gulf of Mexico. It takes twice as long and costs twice as much, if not more. Hence, massive shipping price increases per container.
Back in Washington DC, Joe Biden’s solution was to get rid of the ships floating off the coast of California by piling their cargo into Los Angeles ports that are already overwhelmed with cargo they are trying to organize. The emission compliant truck drivers are now charging the ports for their time sitting around waiting for the dock workers to locate their freight.
The more containers they pile into the port, the longer it takes a limited number of trucks to move them.
The California ports are running out of places to store containers full of goods that are getting off-loaded. Hundreds of thousands of them are piling up. The central issue is the inability of emission compliant heavy transportation in California to move those containers full of goods to manufacturing, warehouses and distribution points.
This California bottleneck has been building, and building and building for years, until now it has reached a crisis point.
FUBAR.
No! There are not plenty of trucks and drivers. There are not plenty of trucks because California emissions standards. There are not plenty of drivers because this current generation is a bunch of spoiled kids that don’t want to work and no matter if truck driving is a good paying job, they don’t want to be away from Mommy’s basement long enough to do the job.
Next up a clot shot mandate for all truck drivers in CA.
Whatever do you mean? Who wouldnt want to work a 70 hour schedule in a 8 day cycle, work for minimum wage when you divide hours worked for what the load pays, hope to find an empty slot after 4 pm at a truck stop, have to deal with D.O T. assholes, Customer assholes, know what permits are needed in each state you pass through, know the bridge formulas for each state, know how to scale the load properly and slide your tandams( actually the box) make sure to factor in the weight of your fuel ,do a lot of stuff for free, chain up/ unchain in a friggen raging snowstorm up in Snoqualmie Pass,Vail Pass, Donner Pass…and thats all in one day. Why a guy would have to be an idiot. And hes writing this now.
Not an idiot Mike. Heavy rig drivers are red blooded American types who don’t shrink from taking on tough tasks.
If you are a heavy rig driver, like rah, then you have my respect as well. I personally have known several career drivers and they are all decent hard working men IMHO. I know there are all types in every job, but the weak ones usually don’t last too long before they are “filtered out” of that job by the very nature of the work.
Modern youngsters want to be paid well to do tough and dirty jobs . We don’t want to pay that well so they find another way.
Also a lot of men have simply come to the conclusion they will never marry or have kids and as such have no incentive but to do the easiest stuff possible. Stoner lifestyle is huge now. 1 in 5 people 18-25 have used marijuana in the last month so they are not going to want a job where that is not allowed.
On top of that nearly 1/3 of guys 18-30 well before pandemic hadn’t had any action in a year. Nothing.
So this means no woman, no kids, no reason to work hard. If we were to have to fight China with conscripts infantry and the Chinese treated POW’s humanely I’d bet most of them would simply surrender as they no longer have any onfidence in the American Dream nor should they
More importantly the techies were promising automated trucks and some do exist so a lot of guys figured all that effort to get a CDL would be wasted since the job will just end up a minimum wage cargo hand in a few years and no one wants that.
As the older drivers age out we will just have to really work at recruiting, really work at autonomous trucks or just ship less stuff and shorter distances.
Interesting stats you cited. Can you share your sources with us. That’s a perspective that needs to be added to the other situations with covid, clot shots, and Leftwing unrealistic emissions rules in California.
Amen brother! I drive too, and have for 17 years. I hope to survive to do my twenty and I’m out.
Don’t know how you guys make it up Vail Pass in winter–what a nightmare. And the lack of places for you to stay for the night–truck stops are jammed to the gills. Hats off to you Truckers!!
“[C]hain up/ unchain in a friggen raging snowstorm up in Snoqualmie Pass,..”
Been there/done that. You are a trooper, Mike.
you forgot to mention the hazard of idiot drivers who will cut you off w/o a second thought… you’re a hero mike in a truck!!
Its the shot mandates that are the cause of the driver shortage. I was down in the port just 3 days ago. Hardly any Trucks are moving cargo. It’s usually far busier.
Read the comments on that article.
Wow!!
Like they say: You can’t fix STUPID.
Don’t be fooled by the shadow dance.
The puppeteers are NOT stupid, but the people who watch the show with bated breath and think it’s something important and will end well definitely seem to be!
This is worse than stupid. It’s criminal. I don’t believe for a second that the leftists like the Governor of CA and the state government (ALL RUN BY ONE PARTY) had no idea this clusterbungle was bound to happen. They muck things up and then the main stream media gives them cover to place the blame anywhere else than where it belongs.
We’re getting as bad as the old Soviet Union.
Buy your good toilet paper now. Because those Russkies’ weren’t usin’ no Charmin.
The lefties that wrote the laws that caused this just assumed that the trucking companies would just buy a fleet of fuel compliant trucks and complaint refrigerated trailers that meet their standards. And as usual they assume that they are rich trucking companies and can afford them.
And the simple solution: waive the rules until the backlog is cleared, will never happen because conmunist demoncrats are vain, preening, egotistical, narcissistic sociopaths and it would mean them admitting that maybe they got this one wrong.
A pox upon them all, their houses and their spawn.
amen Silas. The fact that CA doesn’t do this tells you all you need to know about what they value.
/\ /\ This /\ /\
What do you call “Intentionally” Stupid??? democRat Communism. In microcosm, If you can’t take a diaper off your face, you sure can’t fix anything else. Stupid Sheeples and Stupid “Solutions” deserve more Bucking Fiden in their lives.
President Stupid.
He’s not the President.
These people are not stupid. They’re highly intelligent and EVIL. Big difference.
NOOOOOO! THEY ARE NOT INTELLIGENT! They are merely educated. Education and intelligence are mutually exclusive. Education + wisdom + morals can lead to intelligence. Evil negates both wisdom and morality.
This is Trump’s Nirvana. A problem with clear common sense solutions is where he thrives. If he were still POTUS this problem would be under control.
This problem was building before he came to office. It didn’t “just happen” under Biden’s careful all-knowing evil eye.
Trump would do an E. O. to force Cali. to put a moratorium on their CARB standards. Problem solved.
Well, we could hope. But when do EOs trump the Constitution and Bill of Rights — not to mention state constitutions and regulations. It’s a tangled web, and every heavy thing that weighs it down in vulnerable places will eventually tear it apart.
My point is, this is not a problem that just happened on Biden’s watch and is being incompetently handled. It began decades ago with various “legal” and “lawful” increments encroaching on freedom of commerce and trade (among the rest, including OUR freedoms and rights).
The web is too large. No EO is going to make it right. Problem may be somewhat mitigated in the VERY short term, but then what?
The solution is first: END THE FED. Fiat inflation and social credit system and cryptocurrency will never do anything else but further enslave us. Globally. Central banks, headed by our own dear “Federal Reserve Bank,” are the most potent tools of TPTB.
Second, END TAXATION!!! It was TAXATION that drove OUR companies — productive manufacturing, technology, mining and rail and steel production — out or OUR country and into China and Southeast Asia. NOT American wages or workers. TAXES.
Third, delete NAFTA and all its relatives and friends! Those regulations made TAXES unbearable for OUR American companies. It forced the ONLY logical conclusion for OUR American companies if they actually wanted to survive: MOVE OPERATIONS OVERSEAS.
Fourth, DELETE GOVERNMENT.
Until these things are done, minimally, there is no solution as long as our overlords have those tools. They will ALWAYS be in power over us. They WILL achieve their 150-year goal of reducing the GLOBAL population of us unwashed masses to no more than 500,000,000 people.
These recent problems cropped up in front of our surprised and horrified faces have been planned for DECADES, and yet still most people simply do not see it, but only see what TPTB want us to see, atomized as “one problem here” (COVID!), “one problem there” (empty store shelves!), “one problem over there” (government overreach!), “another over there” (CRT!), yet “another one over there” (transgenderism!), and . . . you get “the” picture.
Very, very few are emerging out of the constant and deliberate distractions to actually begin to see “the big picture” and connect the dots of ALL these things happening NOW, our Perfect Storm soon to eliminate all human rights and freedoms. EVEN HERE.
All the pieces have been quietly and deliberately put into place.
We must open our eyes just as theirs are open.
All can be solved with valid votes not this fraud.
Nobody votes for this it’s implemented by fraud.
I’m guessing, but I’d say 70% of our “elected officials” are there by fraud. Probably more.
Agree with you generally. My point is Trump would find a way to solve this man made supply chain issue, muy pronto. Guaranteed.
If you aim for incremental changes it is more likely to afford you success. To that end, I offer a modest proposal: prohibit the FED from adding any more assets to its balance sheet.
This would end inflation forever in one day. The ghost of Paul Volker would Rest In Peace.
Just cut off federal tax dollars going to CA, after all if other states are having to pay for this it’s only fair.
The $43B saved is at least a start.
Honestly, I’ve been thinking about this exact thing. Can’t you just picture President Trump looking at this disaster and thinking, my God, I could fix this with one hand tied behind my back just to make it fair.
On the one hand it’s got to be very frustrating because I don’t think he ever wants to see the American people suffer.
But on the other hand, he could be saying, all I have to do is sit back and let the left screw everything up and I look 10 times better than I think I am 😉
Love him, but we all know he has a YUGE ego.
And SoCal has their normal fall Santana winds that blow from the leeward side of the mountains to carry any “air pollution “ miles offshore. A short term CARB waiver would have zip impact on air quality, the ruse of greenies.
Sound meteorology. The same hot dry Santa Ana’s that bring the fire hazard. Democrats won’t consider your simple solution because Weather doesn’t follow laws, won’t kiss their feet, and won’t pay them off for doing it.
*Santa Ana winds*
I don’t quite know what to make of your comment which seems to imply that if President Trump had the power to clean up this mess he wouldn’t do it be cause “he has a YUGE ego”.
What the hell is that supposed to mean? So you honestly think for one second that President Trump would do anything to hurt the American people if he had the ability to protect us as he did for the time he was in office?
Please.
I think you’re looking at my comment the wrong way. Of course I believe he would clean up this mess. Please re-read what I said.
Making this about Trump’s ego. My, my.
Hey. Are you one of those gay fbi guys that were in that photo circulating awhile back? Come in here
to try & stir things up?
Do your neighbors point & laugh at ya when you pull up now? Did you have to move?
Please.
One of the things that made President Trump so successful is that he has a big ego. Look at any successful ________fill in the blank and if you look objectively you will see this is a characteristic. It’s what made the MAGA movement so successful. It’s a “can do” attitude which I am fully onboard with. You are insinuating that I think that is a bad thing. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
If our President Trump was still in office there never would have been this problem in the first place AND maybe we would, by now, starting to produce some of our own goods instead of importing them.
Remember that Trump could only get the Senate to approve Mitch McConnnell’s wife Elaine Chao as Secretary of Transportation. CHAO’s ensured her family would continue to be enriched via their shipping business to import goods from ChYna. CHAO set up the deal with California.
It would have never happened in the first place.
If his crew were still in the WH we would not have even had this problem.
For those STUPID enough to believe in human caused climate change…
The ABSOLUTE DISASTER of what you’re seeing is merely the orchestra tuning their instruments…
Just wait until they are playing at full crescendo of the coming green new deal…
Unless you want every aspect of your life to WORSEN DRAMATICALLY
…put a stop to this MADNESS NOW!!!
Um, . . . not to put too fine a point on it, but . . . how?
Any suggestions other than trying to vote out the MADNESS?
That always works so well . . .
Educate people…friends, family, neighbors, anyone who will listen…to the absolute fallacy of human caused climate change.
If enough people understand the truth…their Wizard of Oz show ends.
Educate people like bernie and his followers, not enough time in the day.
Major cities going underwater, ‘increased drought’, & ‘millions of climate refugees’, says Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
Democratic presidential primary debate of November 2019, quote:
“We don’t have decades.
What the scientists are telling us,
if we don’t get our act together within the next eight or nine years,
we’re talking about cities all over the world, major cities going underwater.
We’re talking about increased drought. We’re talking about increased extreme weather disturbances. The United Nations is telling us that in the years to come, there are going to be hundreds of millions of climate refugees causing national security issues all over the world”.
If it’s a shitstorm everywhere, what’s the point of leaving home?
e.g. first time in 15 years that September ice in the Arctic Ocean is as thick as it is and climbing or the past six months have been the coldest recorded ever in Antarctica. Two hemispheres cooling simultaneously but where’s the LSM?
They are scaring the hell out of generations of school children who think the world is going to end before they get through high school.
Tell them, “You will envy the dead.” That always seems to work.
Then there’s always the Donner Party bedtime story
I have family who were in the Donner summit party.
I’m not much for vegetables.
Yeah. The operative word is “enough.”
Just as most of us are immovable in our convictions and conclusions based on what we think we know, so are they.
Ask “Oz” (Australia) how this is working out for them.
The only real solution is a calm, clear-eyed recognition and implementation of what should have been done a few decades ago (but is still doable if “enough” of us wake up and act NOW): secession.
Those people and our people have “irreconcilable differences.” Means there will never be a mutual understanding or agreement on “enough” differences to stay “together.”
There is no rational reason to try to force people who strongly don’t like each other to live together. It’s insanity. Either one side will “win” and force itself on the “loser,” or the other side will.
And exactly what does that achieve? Does it make us stronger? Better? More whole? Does it reconcile all differences to the satisfaction — and happiness! — of each party?
In what way?
Let them go their own way and find out the hard way how their fallacious ideas will damage them. While we go our way, in peace, and prosper because we embrace TRUTH.
Soon there will be no peaceful way to do this. We must acknowledge TRUTH NOW to negotiate a peaceful outcome with those who HATE us, and with whom we can never be compatible.
There’s “enough” on both sides to achieve that, IF we wish to actually achieve a good outcome for US.
Do we?
Succession sounds good on some levels. Say we have an amiable divorce from the left. In 5 years or less we are totally kicking their asses economically and from a freedom standpoint. Then they want to illegally immigrate to the US of Freedom. We will have intellectually lazy people in our half of the country who begin to creep back to liberalism. And the cycle continues.
I suspect that once the masses can’t buy their “stuff” and the cost of energy goes through the roof they’ll be demanding a stop to it. I’ve always said to my leftie, greenie, climate change alarmist friends to let me know when they decide to walk their talk and quit driving, consuming, taking overseas holidays etc. I’m still waiting.
Its all very well for them to wail about “climate change” but once the ridiculous green policies start ACTUALLY IMPACTING them, they’ll change their tune. The majority of them like their comforts and won’t take well to having them removed.
And . . . so they will come over to our side?
Or . . . blame us for their woes? And inflict yet more damage and tyranny on all of us?
The True Believers will never concede they’re wrong. It’s the IDEA that drives them, not the reality. And until and unless they’re left to deal with their false idea(s) all by themselves, they will always have us to scapegoat.
Just like the failures of Communism and Socialism: it just wasn’t done right. THIS time WE will do it right.
Let them. All by themselves.
While we separate ourselves from them and their ideas and peacefully prosper. They have their enclaves, while we have our carefully and prudently maintained borders beyond which they will not be permitted.
A trickle of “deserters” who’ve come to their senses may be permitted in — but only on solid voucher of an individual sponsor and his particular invitation, and he must support that person until he/she does actually become a self-sustaining productive member of OUR community.
This sick back-and-forth always deluding ourselves that “this time it will be better” has to stop if WE are to live as human beings.
Ha, I’ve said the same to a friend for years who thinks Rachel MadCow’s show is news lol When you stop driving your ram 3500 dually diesel and 5 horse trailer up and down the East Coast I’ll know you’re serious about “fixing” climate change. No, in his world, everyone else must change but it doesn’t apply to him
.. wondering if they consider YOU their friend…. you must be very patient
Let’s say it was provable and true that humans were the main factor in increasing temperatures via pollutants (or whatever they mean by ‘climate change’).
How does destorying our economy and capability for innovation solve the problem? It doesn’t. It’s just plain stupid. I can’t think of a single human problem that was ever solved by shutting down and funneling money out of industry and giving it to government.
They gripe today isn’t even that innovation and new technologies aren’t going to fix this ‘problem’ in due course it’s that it won’t happen fast enough for these goons artificial timetable. All fake.
Plastic or paper?
Plastic water bottles?
Again, nobody is voting for this crap.
As containers pile up in stacks on the piers, leaving less room to maneuver , it becomes more and more time consuming to locate and load a specific container that has received a Customs clearance or a Customs PT (permit to transfer). Gosh, and why is it always on the bottom?
Plus there are empty containers, and restows (temporarily unladen containers), taking up space.
I am so glad people are saying that.
This sounds like a perfect opportunity to put the global conglomerate big retailers out of business.
Of course, in order to do that, mom and pop retailers need to start buying and selling American made products exclusively; and, customers need to start buying exclusively from the mom and pops who do so.
Otherwise, many of the mom and pops are going to be put out of business; because, they can’t afford the higher delivery costs resulting from foreign made products being tied up via containergedden. Also, if those small retailers close, eventually, the big stores will have less competition and raise prices across the board.
Somebody is going to lose bigtime from this situation; and, it will be better for America if it’s not the already hurting little guys…
So, you got any of those big-time billionaires to fund this?
What part do you think needs to be funded by billionaires? And, what billionaires do you know who would not want to control whatever part they funded?
So CARB created “environmental” rules about trucks and it has led to this. It’s also led to millions, perhaps billions of waste dumped into the ocean by these cargo ships which will create graveyards of underwater environment. They created a WORSE situation in more ways than one.
This is what happens when people do not look far enough into the future and analyze all possible scenarios for their decisions before they make them. California’s offshore oceans will take years to recover from the poop, pee, vomit, diluted medicine, food waste, and toxic chemicals, if it ever does.
Who funds CARB? And which corporations are the board members connected to?
I’m all for a low CARB diet. Time to drop EPA and state-mandated like orgs. Keep minimal personnel to enforce established reasonable norms. They’re operating past their expiration date.
It’s an acronym. The law was passed in the California State Legislature and signed into law by former governor Jerry Brown Jr.
There are many more such “green” laws coming up for implementation soon, too.
Who funds the Democrat Party who funds and promotes and legislates all these “environmental” laws? There’s “who” to go after.
Many people TRIED to show how these measures would harm not just us humans BUT the very “environment” the “greenies” claimed to be concerned about, but they were simply brushed aside and ignored. It wasn’t for lack of sensible people trying.
Jerry Brown and his wackos couldn’t build a train despite billions in funding. But, yeah they’re totally going to solve ‘climate change’. In a way, it’s lucky all their crises are purely manufactured for graft and not real because we’d be in real trouble with these whack jobs in charge of a real crisis.
This has nothing to do with CARB. It’s about lockdowns, vaccine mandates, and COVID regulations. Governor Hair Gel keeps adding new covid regulations every other week.
There is another, smaller, problem that also needs addressed.
The pic of the gantry crane on the southern port shows an older crane with a cab, and what looks to be a crane operator in that cab.
It would be a safe wager that not all ports are as automated as California.
It is not easy replacing all those cranes on a couple three years notice, and gantry cranes are the most expensive cranes produced. Most, if not all, gantrys are special order. Those cranes just don’t sit on a shelf waiting to be purchased in bulk.
How many crane operators – a highly specialized field, mind you – are “cleared” for the JoeBama mandates to operate those cranes?
(i estimated the cost of every teeny tiny piece of cranes, sans the cab electrics, for years. i know a bit about them.)
And China’s Shanghai Industries holds a 70% international market share on cranes….
“As part of its efforts to gain asset dominance, China has directed its state-owned companies to exclusively buy products and services from other Chinese state-owned ‘enterprises. As a result, China International Marine Containers Group has become the world’s largest maker of shipping containers and Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries has gained a 70 percent international market share for port cranes, and now exports to 300 ports in 100 countries.”
Sorry should have read your post first
And they are likely to be fabricated in China
The majority of the newer cranes in the port of long beach are made by ZPMC (china). They could have bought from KoneCranes but i’m sure they got plenty of kickbacks since the deal was done under Obama.
Seems like this mess should have been addressed long ago by out-of-state trucking companies suing the state of California for banning federally-compliant trucks from engaging in interstate trade. There’s plenty of commerce clause and supremacy clause cases to support their claims.
Problem is, there are human beings, some good, some not so good, behind every “case.”
If people in power had been concerned about these things, they’d have been different.
They weren’t. So they’re not.
And once again…WHERE IS THE GOP!!!??? At the very least, every last one of them should be pointing out the true cause of the problem, even they’re not gonna lift a finger to do something about it.
WHERE IS THE GOP?…
The GOP wants back in power and are constantly criticizing the creepy Biden administration.
All the Republicans are against vaccine mandates, but we do not have the power to stop them ,yet
This MUST be sarcasm. If not, you haven’t been paying attention. GOP is COMMIE. Controlled opposition. The sooner you get that, the sooner you realize what’s going on.
damn right!
Maybe invite Gavin Newsom and the Prez to spend some quality time together in one of those containers? In the hot California sun? Link them together with some ankle chains and weights……See if the whole big box floats?
Uh, . . . I think you’d have to fill “it” with a LOT more of their buddies and cronies!
A book called “The Box” is a book about the creation of the container. Prior to that it was the individual boxes loaded etc. The Box made the world much smaller. I haven’t read it. My brother gave the book to my dad.
Freight arrived palletized, called break bulk. There are still break bulk cargo ships, and piers set up for it. As import volume grew, the container was the only solution. The Longshoremans unions fought it, but to no avail.
The unions fought it because it became more difficult to pilfer cargo. A crane operator would drop a pallet, it would be written off by the insurance company and the dockworkers would have a shiny new object to take home. In Wilmington DE when a Dole ship loaded with juice docked, the dockworkers would bring jugs and load up on orange juice
Now they actually have to open the container to steal. Or to extract the load of dope inside. How inconvenient !
“ By making shipping so cheap that industry could locate factories far from its customers, the container paved the way for Asia to become the world’s workshop and brought consumers a previously unimaginable variety of low-cost products from around the globe.”
If containers are unloaded, why are they NOT loaded onto trucks? It would seem that there are more containers than trucks so why are trucks waiting around to be loaded.
Why now?
Really what they did with the Haitians just move them without really doing anything.
Actually- they should do with the cargo exactly what they did with the Haitians- move it to cities all over the USA.
The trucks on the piers are operated by longshoremen, who work in concert with the crane operators. The cranes cannot load containers onto your normal set of doubles. And if anyone had any such notion to try, the longshoremen would strike, creating an even bigger mess.
Also, the containers come off according to a plan, they do not come off to be loaded on a specific truck.
And btw, even if someone had a solution to this mess nobody in charge would listen.
The longshoremen aren’t the problem. Before 2016, many of the neighborhoods near the port of Long Beach/LA like San Pedro were basically all democrat strongholds. Put up a lawn sign for a republican and it would be gone by the end of the day. Then Trump came along and there were hardly any hillary signs, and Trump signs were everywhere. Then 2020 came, and i didn’t see a single Biden sign anywhere in my buddies neighborhood in San Pedro and Trump signs and bumper stickers were all over the place. The same went for other working class neighborhoods like Lakewood, Cypress, Bellflower, Torrance, etc. That’s part of the reason why i knew there was no way Biden won this state 70-30%. Not a chance in hell.
NO room left to maneuver, turning into a giant jenga puzzle. You know like a room so jammed with stuff it’s difficult to get the mattress out the door
If I started dropping golf balls into your living room one every two seconds continually without stopping for weeks, could you keep up with removing them?
.
OK. Now, what happens if we keep the golf balls dropping every two seconds, but now make a rule that you can only pick them up with a spoon and then must carry them outside to drop them in a bucket. Can you still keep up?
.
How long until your living room is full of golf balls.
That’s the metaphor.
The spoon is the California emissions rule.
The California emissions rule is needed because o
fglobal warming,cooling,climate change,
and because Al GORE says so.
The metaphor doesn’t apply. They cap the number of containers allowed in the port. Thats why there are so many ships offshore.
Towers of Hanoi game with the already unloaded containers…. the one the truck wants is not the one on top of the pile of unloaded containers. Ships to pile is faster than pile to trucks so pile is growing, tower of hanoi takes longer and longer…
No truck drivers to drive them due to covid restrictions, lockdowns, and mandates. Thanks to Governor Hair Gel.
wave goodbye to joe and gavin……then waive the damned Cal truck emissions stds for 5 years starting today
But the Secretary of Transportation is a very busy man. He’s been off on full salary the past two months learning to be a “mommy” to his & his husband’s twin adopted daughters. He can’t be everywhere, for Pete’s sake.
Natural parents can’t see that this “paternity leave” is far more essential than the USA.
Save me from liberal ideology & idiots carrying their banners.
And save these exploited babies!
Funny how the same people who keep telling us that “the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few” always seem to exempt themselves.
I went to CARB’s Website and now I understand the outright combination of incompetence and pure dishonesty shown in their work:
“Diversity and Racial Equity Task Force
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) recognizes that each employee’s unique experiences, perspectives, and viewpoints add value to CARB’s ability to create and deliver the best possible service and technical assistance to our employees and stakeholders. Given that our individual social, economic, and cultural identities shape and influence our experiences and perspectives, CARB recognizes that the organization does its best work by ensuring diversity in our workforce across the various dimensions of social, cultural, and racial identity and by practicing inclusivity in how we work with one another.
MissionCARB’s Diversity and Racial Equity Task Force strives to address, explore, educate, learn about, and respond to the diversity and inclusion needed to be an organization that serves all Californians.”
Good grief – these organizations (and the people in them) have their heads so far up their own butts they have lost touch with reality.
This whole thing was caused by cheaper production in the Far East, cheap enough to more than offset the shipping cost, hence more profits.
This is now ending because of a single state full of nut heads. There WILL BE a correction, although it will take some time. We will start making things here again in the ole USA. The shipping costs from the far East issue is not solvable. That works for us. More American factories and jobs are inevitable.
The loon heads always shoot themselves in the foot.
And how will we build the American factories or have the electricity to operate them with all of the new green Federal regulations?
Can you say Venezuela? 86/46 because he ain’t president
Nice. They funded her graduate school and now she is the “Deputy Executive Officer”.
“Rajinder Sahota, Co-ChairDeputy Executive Officer – Climate Change & ResearchRajinder Sahota is the Deputy Executive Officer for Climate Change & Research at CARB. Rajinder was born and raised in England and has lived in California for many years. She attended the University of California, Davis and holds a Bachelors and Masters of Science in Atmospheric Sciences. Her graduate work was “funded by CARB.”
U.S. Military Could Collapse Within 20 Years Due to Climate Change.
From Motherboard (Vice), quote: “According to a new U.S. Army report, Americans could face a horrifically grim future from climate change involving blackouts, disease, thirst, starvation and war. The study found that the US military itself might also collapse. This could all happen over the next two decades, the report notes”.
Related: Implications of Climate Change for the U.S. Army report (August 1, 2019).
F E A R of Climate Change … not good for us or U.S..
Pretty much all sense in the US Military has already collapsed.
Guess who runs the customs inspections.? That’s right the Federal government. Chances of them upping production zero.
US Customs inspects 1% of the containers and most of the inspections are done at the point of shipping by US Customs Officers assigned overseas at foreign ports!!!
.
I swear he said Fuhrer.

Declare an Emergency Variance to the constraining regulation. Demand it.
Attack Biden and Newsome on the merits. Correctly and specifically accuse them of deliberately sabotaging the economy by refusing to issue an Emergency Variance to protect the immediate economy of the American People. The present evidence of refusal is evidence of their policy. They intend to use refusals of needed and helpful variances to injure the economy in pursuit of an adversarial foreign conspiracy named “Build Back Better” that Biden brazenly touts as his administration’s policy.
For Biden and Newsome to fail to do so is demonstrate they act in collaboration with adversarial foreign interests. The refusal to grant an immediate Emergency Variance is a deliberate and knowing action to aid and abet the apparent 5th Column sabotage of the American Economy in concert with foreign interests seeking the same per the conspiracy that has formed within and around the World Economic Forum, itself an apparent enemy of the American People, our nation and our way of life.
And if they ever do get the queue of ships unloaded, then what?
Sorry for the other thread.
And Gruesome Newsom hid all of this until after the stolen recall election was “in the bag”.
It’s all planed to break down society and change our type of government to a top down system.
When will the governed withdraw the consent and take back the Country, we have a way it’s in the Constitution.
I’ve been advocating something like this for YEARS.
But where in the Constitution is the way to do it, please?
Can’t manage their timber land and forests, can’t manage their ports. One would think that with perennial fires they may as well throw out all the emissions rules. Who do they think they are kidding anyway?!
This is not a new, overnight sensation. This has been planned for several decades and is being implemented.
They don’t care if you’re kidded or not. They have the power. They don’t need anything else.
Hope those container ships are complient with the new legislation.
It has been estimated that just one of these container ships, the length of around six football pitches, can produce the same amount of pollution as 50 million cars. The emissions from 15 of these mega-ships match those from all the cars in the world. And if the shipping industry were a country, it would be ranked between Germany and Japan as the sixth-largest contributor to global CO2 emissions.
Shows how this legislation was nothing to do with the environment but really aimed at crushing small haulage firms and helping Democrat corporate donors secure more market share.
President Trump woukd have declared a National Emergency and suspended the STUPID CARB rules and have every Class 8 truck within 1000 miles report front and center to those two ports. Suspend the Hour Of Service rules and get this country working again. BUT HES NOT THERE and I blame the Vichy Republicans for allowing the election to be stolen. Dont let those assholes off the hook!
Yes!
Paul Ryan and his traitorous types sure messed everything up.
All planned. It’s not just about incompetence. As Sundance so frequently says it’s a feature not a flaw of the Obummer/CCP policy. Empty shelves and who will get blamed. The retailers and the shippers. Certainly not the govt. How could it be their fault? Right? But bet the last dollar in your pocket (if you can find one) that the govt will have a solution for us. More control. More govt oversight. More rules.
Anyone ever consider moving containers out of ports on trains?
Yes. It’s called intermodal and many ports do it. It also takes years to get thru the politics of it all. Another reason why government is nothing but a tax on productivity
This is a job for Butthole Man!..that daring crusader of the most vile and hated of all bureaucracy ‘s .Only he can save America now. Um, where is Alfred E. Neuman anyway?Oh there you are cuddled up with your husband and your stolen newborns. May we bother you to DO YOUR FRIGGEN JOB?
Well it maybe a tad expensive for ships to reroute through the Panama canal, but no more than letting their ships sit idle burning money at cali. Ports at S. Texas, Louisana and Mississippi can handle. But then who ever said these people themselves want a solutuon.
THIS IS THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO GET MANUFACTURING BACK TO USA & STOP BUYING ANYTHING MADE IN CHINA
Why are these ports not integrated with rail? What we are seeing in these pictures — individual cranes off-loading hundreds or thousands of containers onto trucks one at a time — is a third-world approach. Eventually these containers need to be loaded onto rail cars to take them east, so why not immediately? This makes no sense at all.
Do we have any California readers? I was under the impression they had built the Alameda Trench expressly to get containers out of the ports and onto the rail lines without the trucks…this would tend to suggest a whole ‘nother level of weaselry is going on.
Buy American
They need to port in Florida – DeSantis says he will take care of this ridiculous situation.
Is it my simplistic mind? It would appear that all CommieFornia would have to do is lift their strict emission standards for the trucks. We all know Newsome is very good at emergency orders …. where is he on this one …? Crickets
Oh yes I forgot this is just another success in his plan to destroy aka continue his progressive agenda while the middle class sinks further into oblivion. Way to go Newsome or should I say Newscrouge!
How many of those containers are full of illegal immigrants who paid to get smuggled into the US? Not a pretty picture.
You know how Biden was saying how they’re going to be switching to a 24/7 schedule in the port? LoL… the Port of Long Beach has been on a 24/7 schedule for at least 30 years. I used to go out on the fishing boats from Long Beach Sport Fishing starting about 30 years ago and i used to watch the containers being moved while waiting to leave between 2am and 4am. They were moving more containers at night than they do during the day.
In a previous article, Sundance mentioned this possibility:
One truck (call it a “California-compliant” truck) gets some cargo at a California port. The truck drives the cargo through California, until it’s outside of California’s borders. Then the cargo is transferred to a non-CA-compliant truck. This non-CA-compliant truck drives the cargo to its destination.
Why doesn’t that work? Does it take a long time to transfer cargo, from a CA-compliant truck, to a non-CA-compliant truck?
Thanks.
Just one more industry for the federal government to apply its unlimited incapacity.
Wait till the trucking companies and the railways have to implement the vax mandate.
…and dockworkers / longshoremen
Heaven Forbid they go on STRIKE !!!!!
Outdoor workers. You can’t get Covid outdoors.
You can’t catch it alone in your car either so why are solo drivers wearing masks? I cringe every time I see it.
Explain that to the idiots where I live, who wear masks outdoors. SMFH!
It won’t be an issue of the outdoor workers getting Covid 19.
It will become an issue if the workers resist being forced to get an injection they don’t want or need.
Yes, that too!
The gantry(union of course) operators make 250k annually. How do I get that job.
The popular liberal solution would be ….”Buy More Trucks and Hire More Driver’s” Can you imagine and over the Road driver Grossing Six Figures a year going to work on the Docks hauling local containers for half that amount and fighting heavy Traffic ???? The Big Box Retailers are going to take a huge Hit Financially. But First they must stop the Flow of manufactured Products at the beginning of the Line after which halt the Flow of Container ships at the Shippers door and then clear up the Back log of Containers in the Port of Entry, reorganize the method of moving and storing Container at distant Parking Field (High Desert) around Mojave has lots of room and an Airport that accepts 747 Freighters, (Hint, Hint)….. It appears the Problem is with the U.S. Ports running out of Space ????
Yes, that why the want to open a canal that connects the pacific and Atlantic in México, good Lord ??♀️
Yes. And the ships are now backing up in the shippers’ ports on the far side of the Pacific Ocean.
That will be ugly, none of my friends, and there are many, will take the jab. Truckers have lots of free time, and many of us are pretty up to speed on these vaccines and the harm they will have on our bodies. Me, I will park, I’m not taking that poison.
Me too! There is also a shortage of (electronic) parts for semi trucks which has I’m sure spread into the manufacture of new trucks. I talked to someone who ordered a new truck a couple months ago and will not receive it until the beginning of 2023.
Guess who owns the railroad my wifes cousin works for (and from which he’s been furloughed since Jan 2021), BNSF?
Warren Buffet.
Who planned this? Yup, it was planned.
Also why they got rid of the oil pipeline, buffet controls the rails and has his hand in a lot of trucking. Oil has to be trucked in or sent via railroad. All those huge donations to the dem0cratic party have paid off for him
Bo, great point!
