The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released the job openings and labor report for August today [DATA HERE]. The data shows that 4.3 million U.S. workers voluntarily quit their jobs in the month of August. This is a significant jump from prior.
The “Quits” section [Table 4 breakdown] shows quits increased in August to 4.3 million (+242,000). The quits rate increased to a series high of 2.9 percent. Quits increased in accommodation and food services (+157,000); wholesale trade (+26,000); and state and local government education (+25,000). Quits decreased in real estate and rental and leasing (-23,000). The number of quits increased in the South and Midwest regions:
While this data is interesting and significant, it is only one data point within the larger U.S. main street economy. Rather than me extrapolating on this data, I would like to hear your perspective based on your own local feeling about what is going on in your area.
Key points of reference would include:
- While this is potentially related to vaccine mandates, the time frame in August is before the Biden mandatory vaccination requirement made on September 9th.
- Housing prices overall (macro level) were/are high. There is a lot more home equity amid working class families who own homes. This could translate to a greater ability to change jobs or cash out for a longer financial plan.
- Workers in the real estate and leasing segment did not quit.
- The highest quit rates were in the regions with the lowest cost of living.
- Inflation is massive
I am interested to read your opinions on what could potentially be the largest contributing factor based on your town, city or neighborhood.
Ignore the financial pundits. The question is: what do you make of this?
Jennifer Psaki was asked about this quit jump and she was poorly briefed in order to answer the question. She is clueless.
My household contributed to this statistic. Nullification Jr. quit his job of 5 years to focus on his education. Land of Lincoln here.
“Land of Lincoln” also. Have seen many quit and walk out. Just too easy to get unemployment and gov’t benefits which pay better than working.
I don’t even try to learn the newcomers’ names anymore. Company of 50 employees. Mostly run by those of us who’ve been there years and work overtime. Desperately in need of new good employees, but they work for a short time and quit.
Occasionally, they find “better” jobs – but not usually. My new Mgr quit after only 3 weeks. He’d been on unemployment FOR A YEAR prior to being hired. He quit without any other job prospects.
After being paid to relax and go fishing for a year, working was just too stressful for him. I saw this happen years ago, to a beloved friend in FL who was laid off from a well-paying professional job. Unemployment welfare can make puss!es out of men.
I’d like to go back to work and do something as I’m now shaped like a potato however I’m not wearing mask of submission. FJB FAF
Most of IL is comprised of good, common-sense, hard-working people who have some relation to farmers. We do what we need to do, but resent being told what we “need” to do.
When Guv J. B. Prickster mandated masks again, it has gone largely ignored in my area. You can find work if you really want, just look around and see what suits you.
FJB and FJBP!
Can confirm. I only wear a mask at the grocery store. All other places don’t care. And believe me, as soon as I’m out the door it comes off like a prom dress.
Just bought a side of beef from a farm and a freezer from a box store.
I can do absolutely nothing all winter.
I won’t discuss my workplace, but will say that I don’t wear the “mandated” mask anyplace else I go. (Only if I have to get in to see a doctor.)
No one questions me, or even looks at me funny. We’re all quite normal around here.
Pussies are the ones going to work for someone else LOL.
Maybe I ought to apply for a job at the USPS
(1) No vaccine necessary
(2) Good benefits
(3) No stress with the new relaxed delivery timelines
(4) Exercise.
I have a clean driving record too.
If historically good at and comfortable with playing the job political game, IMO worth a look. All I need to do is listen to my local rural carrier who’s been with them about 25 years now and heck I know I’d go postal in a week.
On the main topic, no idea. Subsistence economy where I live. Practically no help wanted and the faces I see all look familiar so very little turnover. The fun money ended a month and a half ago so have no idea why people would quit in August; it certainly wasn’t for the fun money IMO.
Combined with the apparently very low participation rate/high U6, perhaps there’s a parallel economy forming for reasons not limited to the vaccine mandate operation.
People are getting tired of the games and attacks on their freedoms and liberties but don’t want to resort to violence and destruction to combat it, so move to a parallel system that doesn’t make the government’s numbers. In my younger years it was called the underground economy and had a lot of participants and double dippers. IDK.
GAB is strongly promoting a parallel ecomomy.
Or move to Tx or Fl, no mandates. You might go to the USPS site and plug in zip code in each state to see if they need people there. My wife and I work PT at Wendy’s and a girl quit there and went to work for USPS 2 months later she is back and quit the job and told me she was working 70 hours a week and it was hot in the truck, I told her you should have stayed and besides it will be winter soon and it will be cold, now mind you she was not walking a route.
I was in St Augustine Fla. today and every store and restaurants on US1 is hiring some at 17.00hr. I also saw that Ideal Gas Co and Budweiser distributor are hiring too. I live in Ponte Vedra and things are booming here. Two of my kids live here and they, their spouses and most of their peers work from home.
Another factor is my one sons home has has almost doubled in value in 4 years , crazy.
And gain valuable election malfeasance experience too!
Too hard to tell unless we see comparable new hires in each field. That would let you know if people are just switching companies rather than bailing out.
Too bad there are no honest polls. Best solution would be to ask why they quit.
Finally, there is quit and then there is “encouraged” to quit. Either by company behavior or some other external pressure. Quitting means you lose out on unemployment (involuntarily laid off).
A lot of corporations see the economic issues on the horizon and are packaging out employees. I suspect a large percentage of these “quits” are voluntary retirements – i.e. people who take the package to exit.
More and more will opt out of the Biden economy and opt in for the under ground economy. When a recession is on the horizon it’s not uncommon for the peasants to work under the table so they can afford to survive an oppressive regime ruling over them.
If yall left for the Galt communities and didnt tell me, I am gonna be really pissed!
?
???
People relocating could be a part of this. Will be fascinating to see how many people moved from blue states to red in last 19 or so months. I know quite a few and many more with plans to quit jobs and move in the next year (myself included).
Agree. That is what I am seeing here.
The highest Quit Rates were in States with the lowest cost of living. That is perplexing.
they can survive being on the dole.
If people learn to save money they can survive without working for some other idiot.
Most people don’t have the commonsense to understand that.
Jobs are plentiful and competing for workers in low cost of living red states.
Because of the lower cost of living, they were able to save their money and can live on that, either in retirement or for a few months/ years to raise kids, go back to school, etc.
My son moved to Texas from California. I have been traveling between the two states. Our families have been here for many generations. My husband won’t move. My daughter wants to give Texas a try but her husband wants to stay. It is really hard to give up on the home of your ancestors.
my family has resided in CT since 1670s. I was born, raised and lived the first 61 years of my life there before deciding that democommie state was not where I wanted to be…for many reasons. My ancestors would have done the same. Memories are in your heart.
I agree with you. My maternal grandmother came to California in 1935 during the Dust Bowl. My paternal great-great-grand father came to San Francisco on the orphan train following the Civil War. My husband can trace his family back to the arrival of Cabrillo in the 1700s, when California ceased to be pre-historic. Every one of the people from whom my family descended came to California to improve their situation. They would expect me to do the same.
Whenever we declutter our family motto is “Keep it in your heart” as we toss an old favorite relic into the rubbish bin.
at least you got to live in California when it was truly a paradise–there must have been nothing quite like it in the 50’s-70’s
That’s what my mom tells me having grown up in SoCal at that time. Now when she comes to visit mentions she doesn’t recognize the place outside the weather.
True!!! Beautiful wonderful place to grow up as a kid in the 50’s!
There wasn’t. Happy memories.
When you get to a red state and tell them you came from a blue state, you need to immediately add that you are so happy to be in a state where your conservative votes will count, unlike in your old state. I moved from MD to SC in 2018. Trust me on saying this! Not everyone is conservative but the majority are and don’t want libs coming.
Two of my daughter’s friends changed jobs, same field, marketing, for more money. This was in Chicago last month. 2 guesses, first kids going to college got set back by covid, so less new job seekers, second, people close to retirement got out earlier than they might have had it not been for covid. Less people entering, and more leaving the job market.
The amount of hair jostling Raggedy Ann does here clearly indicates she’s just throwing $h1t out there.
Tourism is setting records in Michigan. The last 2 summers saw records rounds of golf paid for. Vacation homes are selling. Ski resorts set records last winter. Rental cars are hard to get, the number of flights are up 20% over 2020, 2020 numbers were up over 2019 (flightaware). Restaurants are open fewer hours, but I suspect they are not earning less, they are busy when open. Road traffic is up. This is an on the ground report.
I read/heard somewhere that the number of women in the workforce is lower. I know of several families that have started homeschooling their kids b/c Critical Race Theory, mask mandates for kids, and then some schools doing virtual or a hybrid that was waste/leaving kids behind. I have no idea what percentage this affects, but it definitely is some part of the pie.
Just spitballin’ here…..but if these workers quit in August (when school typically starts) could it be that many quit to stay home and home-school their children?
Another consideration is that while Biden did not announce his mandate till September, it was brewing all Summer. It was hardly a surprise when he announced it. Perhaps many anticipated this and decided to move on before they were forced to move on. Oh, and perhaps they also quit to move elsewhere to be in a different school district that did not have mask mandates.
The monthly child tax credits made homeschooling an option for more families.
YOU mean the monthly welfare allotments.
I think a lot of people that pared down during the lockdowns have adapted to single incomes when possible.
Lots are talking about home schooling and the advantages of one parent being at home.
Salaries may be higher, the need for workers is great and may facilitate an attempt at single income family life?
I do know that just about everywhere I go I am hearing conversations of people that do not want to be pushed around.
I had a doctor’s appointment earlier (walking pneumonia and a sinus infection, no wonder I’ve been feeling like crud) and in the doc’s office and where I got the prescriptions, there is chatter that people are discontent.
FJB indeed.
It was weird that people were particularly friendly and accommodating of each other and resistant to TPTB.
I like that, be good to your neighbor and F TPTB.
One dock worker’s perspective on the supply chain disaster.

I’ve always been of the opinion that, as an employee, the world doesn’t owe me a living. On the other hand, if I’m an employer, the world doesn’t owe me good employees either. There has to be a balance. If you’re working at one fast food restaurant and the one across the street has a $1000 hiring bonus. crossing the the road looks pretty good. (even if you are not a chicken)
Lots of hiring signs here in Las Vegas.
Is a report like this part of a Chamber of Commerce ad campaign, to promote another attempt at immigration “reform”. As in “we need the werkers”?
Refugees from Seattle and Los Angeles moved in on either side of us in August. We’ve asked them not to vote….
I have rabidly progressive classmate. They were transferred from CA to TN. Bought a home for $200k. While in the waiting room of a doctors office, she spotted a (Gasp!) Bible on a table. She was so offended, they sold their home for $265k and retreated back to CA where they belong. So at least they won’t be infecting TN. Thx be to God
Please remember that prior to the Pelosi crime family taking over CA, the state was mostly Republican. Ronald Reagan, remember?
Everyone I know leaving California for a red state is more conservative than the average Republican. Red states are fortunate to get people from the People’s Republic of California. We will be like the first few generations of Cubans who escaped Castro.
Segment still receiving unemployment that doesn’t want to work, segment retired, segment is women staying home because cost of childcare is too expensive to work, segment is overwhelmed by work because companies can’t hire enough people
Segment knows how to save money, therefore doesn’t need a job. You forgot that one.
People with time in are retiring……
People probably don’t like the crap our government is serving…..
Become ungovernable……”May the Woo be with you.”
As a parent of 2-twenty-somethings:
Kids who dropped out of school are quitting their jobs and going back to school.
New workers are using the labor shortage to quit their job and change/up-grade careers. This is a big problem for food and retail as people find better jobs.
Workers are sick of the sh!t and moving back in with Mom and Dad (youngsters) or retiring (oldsters). Given the circumstances, Mom and Dad are a lot more sympathetic and given housing prices, retirees have more resources.
Not us. Unless my kids and grandkids are truly hurting, they aren’t coming here to live. It has been our job to raise them to be strong and independent, to face troubles. Not to be comfortable.
I work in the automotive service industry. The quits are a lot of people that haven’t worked for a year and a half, and now are being “forced” to go back to work since they’re not going to make as much on unemployment. These people literally work a day and don’t come back. I had one young man start his first day, go to lunch and never came back or returned my calls. They have gotten fat and lazy
Had a flat tire and went to tire store. One employee stood at the desk and said that no one came into work so they couldn’t work on my tire. Like Michael J said, they get hired and never show up. They only show up when the spirit moves them, I guess.
I know a lot of fat and lazy people who are going in 9-5 everyday. Who wants to do that? I work for myself.
I retired/quit my job as a police officer after 27 years a few months ago. The world has gone mad. I was tired of it all. Every call I went on, every single day had the potential to end up like the George Floyd problem. None of the bad lawless behavior was addressed. There were also another million or two reasons why I quit.
I saw many around me gaming the system. Grown able bodied men paying for their food with the food stamp card. Catholic Charities paying rent for everyone because they had spent all their money on drugs. People not working and relatively speaking living the life of luxury. I’ve also seen my whole life the way in which the politicians waste the money so I checked out. My bills are paid and we don’t owe anyone anything. It all needs to burn to the ground.
Good for you getting sane and alive.
Metaphorically speaking, of course. As a retired LEO I’m sure you are against arson. I used to say, “We should just leave it to the monkeys” but somehow this might be misconstrued by the always projecting racist Left.
Bravo, bravo. Thank you for your service.
And thank you for encapsulating in one sentence the sabotage Catholic Charities does within our communities for money and in the name of virtue-signaling. Yet another institution that needs to burn down and start over.
So glad you cut bait while you still could. Thank you for your service.
Looks to me the West and mid-west are about even. The disparity is between the South and the Northeast. (1722 v. 599)
Could be a multitude of reasons, but you have to want to be a part of this economy. Otherwise you just keep taking the SNAP crumbs until you find a job that will pay enough to make it a career.
My Lefty neighbor quit his job to get the federal unemployment. It must have become easy, because the federal portion is gone but he is still taking the State dole.
I also know a lot of people that have move from Ill-annoy. When they go, some family members have to voluntarily quit.
I’m in SC (near Myrtle Beach) where we are getting a yuge influx of Northerners moving in. My neighborhood alone has seen 10 new residents from Ohio, NY, PA and CT. We have a great number of job openings and when kids went back to school the area lost lots of employees.
Imo people have decided to do what they have to do to get through this awful mess. FJB and his stormtroopers, the open border fiasco, the f’d up vaccine mandate, expensive gas and scarcity of items…what a cluster. Folks are angry and fed up. They want control over their own lives. They don’t want the government breathing down their throat, so I feel that anyone who has to play by someone else’s rules won’t do it. That can also mean working … short staffed and taking orders from the government. I’d say it’s a rebellion of sorts.
The question is: what do you make of this?
Locally it is difficult to actually determine. I have family that quit in August from local education to go over to healthcare, all about more income. Local restaurants continue to struggle with help and shorten the operating hours to compensate. But, along with this two new restaurants opened up in the last few months. This had to water down the ready to go and available cooks, wait staff, etc. – one other pizza joint was bought out by the long time employees.
Industry here locally as well are struggling to fill shifts. A buddy of mine is the comptroller for one plant and tells me they are struggling big for help. Another friend left his plant job of 12 years to take a position as youth pastor.
Yes, hard to determine why such a jump nationally. Local folks here seem well prepared to live on with their lives. However, there are a few irregulars new to town that do more wandering than anything else and with plenty of places hiring these tend to stick out.
Last tidbit – Our area never locked down to the extent seen nationwide. On one hand people did not experience what others experienced. On the other hand, this may very well be why people overall are not to concerned (yet).
I didn’t see drug and human trafficking on the list. These illegal and criminal industries have exploded!
In NW Fla, have seen a surge of new Mexican restaurants which employee the newly immigrated family and friends.
Central Texas here. I work in education and we are still short 4 teachers on a high school campus, not sure about district wide. I look for more teachers to leave before the end of the school year, maybe by Thanksgiving or Holiday break. I think I have pretty good classroom management in my classroom, but I still feel like I’m dealing with discipline issues more than providing an education. A large portion of the student body has been out for 18 months, so that have social anxiety and I believe that no matter what grade they have their belief is they will be passed.
No explanation from me but we’ve been to Dallas, KC and Overland Park within the last month. Same as hometown St. Louis-help wanted signs everywhere, many eateries closing early or only open certain days. Since we’re living solely on a pension right now I wouldn’t mind going back to work part-time but not if I’ve got to wear that useless mask. In closing, folks that are still working shouldn’t be forced to wear it either.
Statistically, the report can vary this much with bumps/dips which are not significant to any trend whatsoever. Fact is, you need at least 6mos to spot a trend the month-to-month varies so much.
New England media promotes the Biden regime so thoroughly that none of us have any idea what anybody else is doing or why they are doing it. There will never be a media acknowledgement of anything negative, nor any negative impact, based on what the machine is doing to us. Anybody who has reservations would be presented as a far out loony. No hint of any negativity in terms of mandates, just how most people have gotten vaccinated, and anyone who leaves a company or employment is most certainly not going to be missed or make a difference. Whether this is gaslighting, we won’t know. Conservatives don’t know each other in New England and there are no forums or groups for conservatives. It’s a liberal hellhole.
I know Instagram is part of Facebook, but in my area there is a person who started an account called #unmaskedsanantonio. It has been a HUGE help and support to many people. They have daily input in many categories, and promote local gatherings/protests etc. You can find businesses, medical field, legal, entertainment, and so on, that do not require masks or shots.
Maybe you could start one in your area. ????
Sadly true. Can confirm.
63 yr old hubby quit the corporate world in August. Regional SR VP Sales of German owned company finally had enough of their wokeness. Became self employed and will be focusing on helping conservative businesses improve their sales and grow their business. DFW
Here in Central NC there are a lot of signs outside of businesses “Now Hiring”… Spoke to a woman at a local hardware/feed store and she said deliveries are lagging due to lack of truck drivers. They also have a hiring sign outside.
I’m not in the workforce (retired 2 years ago), but SIL works for large auto dealership and inventory is very low.. Relatives in the North (upstate NY) in construction (excavation) out of work approx 2 weeks so far.. haven’t heard of any local friends being laid off or quiting .. No vax mandate here – yet!
just read the news
Florida is welcoming cargo ships from CA to its ports.
Besides putting a crimp in the globalists plans, and a crimp in Newsom’s plans, i read jobs …. jobs …. jobs
A ton of people I know were not quite ready to retire, but have decided to do it anyway (including us). Hubby has just had it with the corp.. bs. We don’t think money will provide security anyway.
I’m seeing a lot of people, especially young people, getting the jab.
Now I’m certain they all could have done so before now.
I would bet it’s all employer pressure. I wonder what options do the young have to earn a living?
My wife will retire early if she is faced with the choice of Jab or Job. I’ve been retired for years.
If she must make the choice I am encouring the idea of cashing out of our house and relocating to our motor home in Florida.
Explanations for the Labor Shortage
https://geopoliticalfutures.com/explanations-for-the-labor-shortage/
In my small Texas town, we’ve had numerous new businesses open within the last few months. One is a new U-Haul store, which will probably do quite well since before, you had to drive several miles to find one, and people are on the move.
Several other new businesses are (inexplicably!) bling-bling places (cheap jewelry, over-priced clothes, nasty-smelling candles, stupid-looking knick-knacks, etc.). I just shake my head at the short-sightedness of these people. Do they have no concept of where the economy is headed and that their crap will not sell when people have less money?
Other types of businesses that have opened locally have been coffee shops, sandwich/burger joints, and rental houses. I suspect the locals are trying to attract tourists, but . . . . yeah, I don’t foresee any of them lasting a year. Maybe they get lots of tax write-offs for their failed businesses???? I dunno. Obviously they don’t read the same news I do!
And finally, an addition to the local hospital is in the works, so they’re trying to attract nurses and medical personnel; low-paying service jobs are also plentiful (and not being filled very quickly)–restaurants, grocery stores, mechanics, truck drivers, etc.
Agree with others below, people that were offered packages exersized them. And/or, these folks raked in stocks(e.g. Bitcoin) and bailed; I know several of these. Other than that I have no idea.
Here’s my take. For the last year my customers cannot retain workers. Most are illegals and will switch for a buck an hour so turnover rate is high. Even if they get workers 15% call in or don’t show every week. HR is a nightmare betting on the 91st day of employment, that’s when the claims start.
Here’s the pearl. Companies will automate even if it reduces output in the hope they’ll gain by adding shifts.
I am currently in the process of retiring from state service and preparing for a move from California. I thought at one time California could be saved. I thought if all conservatives left California than there truly would be no hope left for the state. I now realize that California is lost and maybe the country. I refuse to have my kids vaccinated, indoctrinated and live in the current Comifornia climate. The wife reentered the work force for the 5-7 months that it will take get out of the state. She can get a new job when we cross the wire and escape.
My husband and two 18 yr old sons quit in august and we moved from MA to free FL
Government is a job killer. They’ve screwed everything they get involved with.
Bidet is just finishing what Obama started.
Good timing of article as i just got turned away from Popeyes Chicken for the third time in two days due to “staffing shortages”. Folks…this is in Tennessee…so i would say this means we are prolly in deep sh** as a country when you cant get fried chicken whenever you want in the south.
Another Tennessee report: I pulled into Burg K for a quick breakfast sandwich last week and was told that they had no eggs!! Deep dodo coming…
Went to gas station today on fumes….was told only supreme available. I had not choice but to pay the extra or would not make it to another station.
Ordered a chicken sandwich at KFC drive-thru (AZ) and was told, “we don’t have any mayo to put on it.”
This reminded me to add condiments to the food supplies I’m collecting for when shortages hit hard.
The largest employer in my state announced everyone must be vaccinated or lose there job.
One of the reasons given is because the vaccine is approved…yeah I know it’s not
And there is no federal mandate. It`s all bluff.
My son lives in Texas and works for a large tech company. He earns $250,000 yearly plus stock. His company recently announced mandatory vaccine program would be implemented next week. My son was completely willing to be fired. He absolutely will not get the “vaccine”. He is young, fit and doesn’t have confidence in those demanding he inject an experimental gene theraputic into his body.
His wife is a nurse, “vaccinated”, and would have no trouble finding employment and he would stay home with their 3 small children until he decided what to do next. Gov. Abbott’s EO yesterday bought him some time, but my son is not too worried about whatever happens. He is very good at taking care of himself and his family.
Out here in Commie Oregon. Signs for hire everywhere. Oregon also has laws that don’t criminalize hardly any drugs. So homeless are everywhere and of course they don’t work. I believe that is by design.
Real estate prices are through the roof and hubby and I could sell our house and pay cash in a state like TX or FL. At that point, we could retire. I believe a lot of people have done this to escape the NW.
And that is why those of us who live in Texas cannot afford to sell: no affordable house to move to because the prices are triple what they are worth……and those moving in from many areas of the country can pay cash and get their “good deals”. No offense to you. It’s just the reality right now.
I have been retired since 2003 and while I have a sufficient amount of retirement income, savings and investments to meet my families needs, I have, none the less participated in “off book”, “parallel economy” opportunities, buying and selling locally attained items and services. It is possible to earn enough to live simply without “formal employment”, provided your situation is debt free. It would be interesting to know the jab status of the recent quits. I am and shall remain unvaxed.
Who is Lesko Brandon? /s
I work in the temp staffing business. The unskilled labor force. We have had 1000% turnover for some of our big clients and these are clients with up to 10,000 billable hours per week. My company is a small privately owned staffing firm so the odds are against us against the big multinational staffing companies and vendor management systems who suck the life blood out of everything.
So, here’s what’s been happening lately. E-verify/SSA aint working. And I mean they just aren’t doing shit. We have piles of what are called TNC’s which mean we’re waiting on qualification to work. We are finally able to fill orders because of the number of illegals in the country. We are talking about the hispanic illegals. And I have to say, they work. None of us like this but we can’t not put them to work until E-verify/SSA tells us no.
Interesting enough, we have a pay card vendor that we use to direct deposit to pay the temp employees, their database is always more up to date than E-Verify/SSA. They will block the pay card account if there’s a DOB, SSN or address that needs to be confirmed. At that point we give the temp the option to acquire their own bank account (which can be difficult) or we have to end the temps assignment and pay via paper check which goes with the adios.
I complete BLS stats each month and our employed numbers haven’t changed much for most of the this year. It’s just that the number is constant new employees to replace those that quit or are forced to quit. It’s a continual replenishment game and a lot of work and costly.
Our clients love the hispanics but only if they’re legal. There’s only so much we can do to comply when you have a government who opens the borders and promotes illegal activity. Then promotes the population to sit on their butts to collect unemployment and that goes for whites, blacks and middle eastern communities.
At the end of 2020 we were on our way to incredible numbers for the company and the illegal regime took over and destroyed it. We are holding water but waiting for the next directive to drop and destroy.
Idiots with signs begging on the off ramps of expressways while huge billboards hover over they
heads proclaiming $18.00 plus per hour for factory work.
Here, these last 2 weeks, the grocery store has had a very small shift of workers. I saw perhaps 3 people trying to keep the shelves stocked, (many thin shelves, some items out, but I don’t know if it unavailablility, or with so few workers, they just can’t keep up with the stocking, I tend to think the latter). Also, only two check-out lines running, and no extra baggers. I bagged my own for the sake of convenience, but some people like to let the cashier do all the bagging.
A couple haunts I frequent for a quick pint on my way home, only one bartender, and no wait staff. Crowds are smaller, but one person to handle bar and tables can get a bit behind.
4.3 million +1
Is August just a good time to quit? ?
Would like to add that you can measure ‘quits’ but you cannot measure ‘planning to quit’.
‘Planning to quit’ could take 6 months, two weeks, or 1 day.
Long term ‘planning to quit’ could explain why real estate did not see many quits. ?
Should also add that saving rates were/are pretty good.
The last year (plus) would probably be considered a ‘re-evaluate your life’ period.
August is a transitory month. ? So if your gonna make change might as well do it in August. ?
