It was exacerbated by further destabilization of the U.S. domestic labor market by liberal immigration and work visa programs.
Both parties enriched themselves off these practices while building up hostile foreign competitors and the result is now a materially weakened United States, including with respect to national security, whose citizens do not have access to a healthy labor market that otherwise would be yielding excellent outcomes for them and their progeny if America First had been the executed doctrine since the presidency of Ronald Reagan (except for the Simpson-Mazzoli Act in 1986 which Reagan should not have signed).
I don’t think Independents are all that independent. I changed my voter registration after the last election in disgust at the do nothing GOP, but I don’t envision any scenario where I would ever vote for a Dem. Trump supporter yes, but GOP disowns him. I believe many Dems have become equally disgusted with the radical left, but who would not likely vote Republican either. Many will just stay home.
