Comrade citizens, in the first in nation development, Delta Airlines Corporation has announced it will begin fining non-vaccinated employees $200/month for refusing to take the COVID-19 vaccine. The fine will be deducted from the paycheck of Delta employees who are enrolled in their healthcare plan and not vaccinated.
This is a remarkable development and likely to begin a process we might see from other employers. If a company can fine an individual for their personal health decisions, it is only a short step to a company that can begin issuing financial penalties for weight, diet, or other health attributes.
(Bloomberg) – Delta Air Lines Inc. will impose a $200 monthly surcharge on employees who aren’t vaccinated against Covid-19, becoming the first major U.S. company to levy a penalty to encourage workers to get protected.
The new policy was outlined in a memo from Chief Executive Officer Ed Bastian, who said 75% of the carrier’s workers already are vaccinated. Increasing cases of coronavirus linked to a “very aggressive” variant are driving the push for all employees to get the shots, he said in the note to employees Wednesday.
The fee applies to employees in the airline’s health-care plan who haven’t received shots by Nov. 1. The company also will require weekly testing for employees who aren’t vaccinated by mid-September. (read more)

If I worked for Delta I would file a lawsuit. They are not required to know your immunization history, nor can they force you to get immunized or fine you for not getting a vax. There are laws. Some people should start following them.

How insurance plays into this will be fascinating. It might permanently change the function of health insurance as a company benefit – for better or worse.
In the end the insurance companies don’t want to lose money – either by paying claims or by losing plan participants. If they raise premiums or pressure companies, it will be because of objective careful research showing Covid is *real*, indicated by valid cases. If the research indicates it isn’t real – and/or indicates the vax is dangerous, well they won’t raise the premiums for fear of losing participants.
The place I work has a wellness incentive program where you can get screened and engage in healthy activities to earn “rewards” (I don’t participate in it because I prefer my privacy). I imagine it results in the insurance company reducing their premiums for us. Anyway, getting vaxxed will earn you rewards now.

I keep trying to get people to understand this point! Neither the CDC nor the companies that produce the jabs are saying that getting them will prevent people from contracting or transmitting the virus! Their ONLY claim is that it will lessen the severity of symptoms for those who do get it…but even that is questionable considering the data out of Israel and the UK about breakthrough cases and lowered resistance over time, hence the need for never-ending booster shots!
Even if EVERYONE was forced to get jabbed, as long as we still have people coming across the border (AND being flown in by the US Government) there will continue to be variants and it will continue to spread, which is exactly what many prominent doctors and scientists have been saying for months. We CANNOT “vaccinate” our way out of an active outbreak and we are only prolonging it by trying to do so. It has better than a 99.5% survivability rate so we need to simply allow those who want the shots to get them and then leave everyone else alone. It will spread, mutate and weaken, and then will turn into any other normal corona-type cold virus by the end of next flu season!

Seems to me there are several collective bargaining units to deal with here: pilots, mechanics, flight attendants, and maybe baggage handlers. Since this is novel – one would think that this action would violate the respective collective bargaining agreements. But (and it’s a big but) that would assume the rank and file of the unions object to this.
They already do that with health insurance I get a $20 credit every pay period towards my insurance payment if I accumulated enough points by doing reventative measures the year before. I have always done all my preventatives anyway so no biggy but….

I seem to recall YEARS ago, when an inmate was refusing some type of shot or vax or other (sorry, quite a while back, and I can’t remember all the details). IIRC, the state had to get a court order to jab him against his will. Is there anyone reading with a better memory than mine, or who knows the law in that area, who can weigh in? It seems to me that if this is correct, every employer would have to go to court, and different jurisdictions would undoubtedly rule differently.

My company already charges more for insurance if we don’t hit biometric goals set by the insurance company. The goals always become more and more restrictive by the year, as well. Last year, I was fined for having triglycerides at 150 when they need to be 149 or below. As if one point too high makes me some sort of walking health liability. No one should comply with any of these vaxx mandates. Just wait to be fired and everyone should join a class action lawsuit and get full unemployment. Stick it to them hard.

Just left a Teamster position on the Enbridge Line 3 pipeline because of bi-weekly covid testing. Found another Union position that will keep me close to home without testing. The onus should be on the company to prove that unvaccinated people cost their health insurance more than the vaccinated do. With Delta stats, that might be hard to prove. Many companies with self-insured medical insurance plans and lots of life insurance companies have always charged higher health, life insurance premiums to smokers than Non- smokers.
Get your state legislatures to pass a law preventing this.
You can’t do that on group health plans. ACA. Life insurance companies will always charge more for smokers than non because they will die sooner, its a fact and not discriminatory. Health insurance is actually less for smokers because of the same reason, they don’t use the coverage as long. Non smoking healthy people are what cause health insurance to be so expensive.
Donald Trump is behind the curve on this. He doesn’t seem to realize that Americans care about these vaccine mandates and the loss of our basic human and certainly our civil rights, which are threatened more and more every day. He could mention natural immunity, which is proving to be more robust and durable than vaccine immunity, which is not impressive thus far. If he wants to have a political future he needs to realize he got played and admit it, then start talking about mandates and how wrong they are. People won’t be mad he got played. They did discriminate against smokers, however they can’t do that anymore because of ACA. Truth be known smokers cost health insurance company less in claims because they don’t live as long. What Delta is doing is in violation of HIPAA. It’s also discriminatory and in violation of federal law. Smokers do die sooner than non smokers so that is not discrimination for life insurance.
