DeSantis has shown he has the right stuff. He is also younger, that will help in the fight too, by 2024 Trump will be 78 and would pass 80 in office.
My governor, deSantis, has done a wonderful job in FL. In many ways it’s a refuge from the madness. However, he has shown no sign, uttered no sound, of understanding and explaining how he would be able to master an oppositional system in DC that bested Trump. Imo deSantis ought to lead an alliance of red state governors AGAINST the federal gov’t and revive the issue of states’ rights.

Can any human alive tell us how they might plan to overcome the swamp? Can Trump tell us that plan? Even when he saw it up close, he could not overcome it, it chewed him up and spit him out, and started a sharp turn toward totalitarianism that poses a serious threat to the Republic now. States rights? The states are mostly giving up their rights in order to keep federal money flowing to their coffers now. That’s how federalism was effectively nullified by the federal government. FL and a few others may be bucking some of the federal “guidelines”, but overall federalism is dead in the US now.

A late-70s to early-80s Trump as POTUS, term limited to boot, is going to be dealt with every bit as harshly and disdainfully as he already was, if not moreso, and it’s not unreasonable to think that a man in his 80s is just not going to be able to maintain the mental & physical energy to carry on that fight. Further, Washington would, from day #1, simply seek to outlast him. They would know with utter certainty that in four years, Trump would be gone for good, never to return. They’d install another Uniparty-approved candidate in 2028, and the moment that person is sworn on on 2029-01-20, poof, all of Trump’s actions start getting negated. Just as Biden wiped out so many of Trump’s beginning on 2021-01-20.
The work that needs doing needs a younger, more vital man as POTUS to carry it out. Someone who can serve two terms and groom a successor. Multiple successors, even. And simultaneously there need to be multiple governors and legislatures at the state level taken back, and those governors & legislatures need to be carrying out their work with the necessary zeal.
The fight is much bigger than one man, and if patriots allow themselves to put too many of their hopes on one man who will be approaching his 80s in four years, then the fight will in all likelihood end very badly. Long term, it seems to make much more sense to position DeSantis as the 2024 candidate with Trump supporting him in the background.

My how times change. In May 2016 CPAC poll had it Cruz 40 percent Rubio 30 percent, Trump 15 percent, and Ohio Gov. John Kasich had 8 percent. Nikki Haley got 12 percent for VP.
The the difference in that poll and this one is that we had an open field and didn’t know exactly what any of them would do or what their policies would be. Trump has been elected and served and we know what his policies would be.
