The cocktail party GOPe have always looked down their noses at the base of supporters; now they report -via Reuters- that they will abandon the Republican party.
(Reuters) – Dozens of Republicans in former President George W. Bush’s administration are leaving the party, dismayed by a failure of many elected Republicans to disown Donald Trump after his false claims of election fraud sparked a deadly storming of the U.S. Capitol last month.
These officials, some who served in the highest echelons of the Bush administration, said they had hoped that a Trump defeat would lead party leaders to move on from the former president and denounce his baseless claims that the November presidential election was stolen.
But with most Republican lawmakers sticking to Trump, these officials say they no longer recognize the party they served. Some have ended their membership, others are letting it lapse while a few are newly registered as independents, according to a dozen former Bush officials who spoke with Reuters. (read more)

I have never voted for a Democrat candidate in my entire lifetime. The first president I was eligible to vote for and did vote for was Ronald Reagan. I regret not being wise enough in my youth to understand the subsequent neoconservatism that Bush Sr. ushered in IS as damaging to this nation as progressive liberalism (“radical leftism”). Fortunately, I did figure it out and so did not vote for McCain or Romney, choosing third party candidates like Chuck Baldwin instead.
It was Donald J. Trump’s agenda that brought me back into the GOP with his wonderful mix of government/economic/immigration reform couched in a positive version of nationalism, the acceptance of morality over immorality and nod to traditional Christianity (not to be confused with Marxist liberal theology and immoral “lifestyles” masquerading as Christianity), family, and those pieces of paleoconservatism that result in desirable outcomes for U.S. citizens. After GOP leadership morphed into traitors against our president and all-that’s-holy to re-form the anti-American uni-party so they could return to lining their pockets by selling out this nation and it’s workers more rapidly like they were doing before President Trump (even to hostile foreign actors like China), I contacted the local GOP office and explained this was why I was re-registering as third-party and not to expect my vote in the future.
There are still cases before SCOTUS that could turn this around. Pray that God will show up and a miracle will occur with respect to these cases. If the fraud is corrected and President Trump handed his second term back, then I will rejoin the GOP to support him and his policies. Barring that, both the Republican and Democrat parties can go pound sand.
My father was in the Secret Service from Kennedy to Bush 41. When he retired, he was in charge of the White House complex, so he actually had regular face to face contact with some of the Presidents. I frequently talked to him about the different Presidents. Some things he flat out wouldn’t answer. But he never had a bad word about Reagan. He said RR was always the nicest guy, and took a great interest in the staff as well as their families.
When it came to Bush 41. About the only thing he would say about him, was that Bush had a very patrician attitude, and stopped there. I interpreted it as Bush was a bit of a snob. While Presidents like Reagan and LBJ enjoyed hanging out with the staff and SS detail.
Dad had several interesting personal stories about Reagan, LBJ, Kennedy, even Carter, he didn’t have any about Bush or Nixon. Nixon in fact hated his Secret Service detail, and wanted to see them as little as possible. More than a few agents ruined their suit having to hit the deck when Nixon took a walk through the Rose Garden. In those days, Secret Service agents didn’t get a clothing allowance. The cost of torn suit came out of the agent’s pocket.

He’s gone now. But he was approached more than once both for books and behind the scenes tv shows. But he was old school. He told some stories, but would never tell anything that was secret or private. I have one of his old passports. THAT is cool. You can see stamps for when real history was made, like Nixon going to China, Reagan meeting Gorbachev, Kissinger’s Vietnam negotiations. There are so many stamps, they had to add pages to the passport. He was a true multimillion miler. In hs I pulled out an atlas, not to find out every place he had been but to try to find a country he had NOT been to. I found one, Antarctica.
