The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled against the state of New York and Governor Andrew Cuomo in a late night emergency ruling barring the state from reimposing limits on religious gatherings. [full pdf here]
In the 5-4 ruling the newest supreme court justice Amy Coney Barrett sided with the Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn, while justice John Roberts sides with the liberal justices in the minority, but seems to agree on the merits.
“Stemming the spread of COVID–19 is unquestionably a compelling interest, but it is hard to see how the challenged regulations can be regarded as ‘narrowly tailored,’” the court wrote in an unsigned opinion.
“They are far more restrictive than any COVID–related regulations that have previously come before the Court, much tighter than those adopted by many other jurisdictions hard-hit by the pandemic, and far more severe than has been shown to be required to prevent the spread of the virus at the applicants’ services.”
“It is hard to believe that admitting more than 10 people to a 1,000–seat church or 400–seat synagogue would create a more serious health risk than the many other activities that the State allows.” (full pdf)

Fellowship is the essential ingredient to a purposeful life. How and why we interact with each-other is how and why we recharge our core humanity. Throughout history large armies have been defeated through the process of division. It is not a leap to see the same strategic objectives being deployed against social assemblies including congregations. It is puzzling how leadership cannot see the danger in social and spiritual distance when the bond of fellowship is needed more than ever.
Each of us has a different connection to our community. Each of us has a different level of internal strength… such is the nature of living. However, the distance between people is manifestly not a good outcome when combined with the lack of food for the soul. (more)

It really was enjoyable reading Judge Gorsuch’s opinion which immediately followed our newest brightest Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s opinion. His is the voice that I thought would make for a fine Chief Justice some day; does rings around what Robert’s minority opinion presented. Perhaps there was a slight sense of competition in Justice Gorsuch’s words, or more likely this first of the new Justices striking out on a new independent, perhaps ‘maverick’ spot on the bench?

Excellent situational awareness. That such ludicrous and obviously targeted restrictions on the 1st Amendment Free Exercise clause get only a 5/4 decision should send a chill down the spine of every patriot, Christian or not.
This clause was placed in the FIRST Amendment very purposely as it reflected how important the maintenance of “virtue” (belief in and/or adherence to, traditional Judeo-Christian values and norms of the Bible) was to the proper functioning of our system and even our very survival as a nation.
The largely successful assault on these values over the last 60+ years by our enemies, foreign and domestic, have brought us to where we are now, wallowing in the most depraved and immoral “culture” in our history.

Judge Gorsuch, in his opinion, brings up the fact that even though Chief Justice Roberts vote sided with the minority his, Roberts’ words, in his opinion, agreed with the majority. There’s some slamming going on there. Perhaps internal court politicking making an appearance.

What happens about Hell is this: You die and go to the Judgement (or we all wake up together on Judgement Day, or when you die you are outside of time and Judgement Day is naturally immediately present for the whole Human Race, however that works). Maybe you thought you wanted God’s will to be done, but on Judgement Day, with your perfect understanding, you’ll realize you side at that point with the Devil. You really wanted to rebel. Or maybe — and this happened to a LOT of devils, exorcists have discovered — you agreed with God’s will 95 percent but there’s one thing, as C.S. Lewis says somewhere, something small that isn’t worth a “bluebottle”, but that one thing you WON’T accept from God, one “bluebottle” you just won’t give up.
I think Roberts is definitely being blackmailed, as are many in our government who are being coerced by the Deep State. On that Day of Days, though, how will they react to complete, total, unfiltered understanding? Will they say, “Oh God! I’m sorry I didn’t have the courage — the FAITH in you — to stand up and let all my dirty laundry be revealed for the greater good!” Or will they say, “Wow, you know, I see now I didn’t do what was right back then because really, despite the blackmail, I really agreed with the bad decisions I made.”
None of us can say Roberts is going to Hell. None of us can say we’re going to Heaven (this is called the Sin of Presumption). I suppose one ought to pray for Roberts (and the others) by saying, “Lord God, encourage and bless these judges, senators, etc., to embrace your holy will for them, for we know if they do not, they’ll surely rot in Hell.”

In GA the Churches could be opened back a long time ago, my ex Church chose to “wait for the right time”, I stopped watching their online services, which they deemed as “the new normal”.
IMO, if the Church’s services can be held online, because somehow the Pastor and musicians are immune to Covid, then they can close those large buildings and start streaming their shows, I mean, services from a small studio, rented for that purpose.
I started sending my tithes and offers to Churches that are open to the public.
They locked down the Churches. Adults are isolated. Children are growing up away from Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, etc… and they think that’s the new normal. How sad!
How sad, and how demonic! They’re not only creating a generation of obsessive compulsive paranoids (who will need the Great Reset to take care of them), they’re creating a generation who doesn’t believe. It is evil in the extreme.
I feel sure that at some point there will be a new “revisionist” version of the Bible that states where two or more are gathered in a Zoom meeting or chat room or some nonsense to that effect. Maybe the real message here is that bigger is not better. Maybe we should be looking at the small churches that preach the word of God rather than seek the big bucks from the collection plate. I have a sister who has been going to small “churches” in people’s homes or wherever they can find a place to meet. She belongs to a large evangelical church that has the traditional building, etc. But she was telling me that many of her church family members have gone “underground” like the Christians had to do centuries ago.
I like the idea of gathering in small groups to worship whenever you feel like it, but I’m not keen on hiding it. It is our right to worship when, where and how we see fit. We were born with this right and no government can take it away. Wasn’t that exactly what this country was founded on?
I was raised a Catholic but have not been a regular church-goer since high school. I do believe in God and have seen His miracles in my own life and those around me. I have to say this persecution of churches is actually pushing me to want to start attending services more regularly. It is time for followers of God to be MORE visible, MORE vocal, and MORE defiant of Satan than ever!
If you want to get back on the wagon, I suggest starting simple with YouTube and streaming a recording of the NYC St Patrick Cathedral mass with Cardinal Dolan. Watch as little or as much as you want, but the homilies are very well done with a conservative bent. Probably because he was from Milwaukee, not from NYC.

I started veiling (lacy and feminine, not opaque and other religion-y) a few years ago and only one other woman in my parish does also. I don’t care, in fact I don’t even look to see, if others look at me cross eyed. I am even more comfortable in my humility and glorifying Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament now with the way the world is.
My pastor has chickened out, in my opinion, and pretty much closed the church to parishioners. If you call for a reservation, and you can get in, he says Mass, cleans up, then distributes Holy Communion, sending those who receive the Blessed Sacrament out of church immediately, with Jesus still on their tongue, to receive Jesus into their bodies and souls on the sidewalk. No. I’m not having anything to do with that.
I am blessed to have found a church 15 miles north of me that does not kick you out of the church with the Blessed Sacrament unresolved on their tongue. The two priests, one a lil older than me, one much younger, tell it like it is, are humble enough to sit with those who come to Mass and pray the Holy Rosary and First Friday devotions with them. Their confessions are a blessing. I see more and more of my fellow parishioners from my original parish at my now new one. I could go in, but I won’t.
I encourage you to see you are not alone in how you feel. And being in the True Presence, in His holy House, will be the most peaceful and happy place you can be. Happy Thanksgiving and God bless you. ??

I’m seeing the same in Washington, DC. The mayor ended any major restrictions on churches reopening. I think this is largely due to Capitol Hill Baptist Church protesting the restrictions.
Still, my mother’s church remains among too many that are closed. My mother’s pastor has been really gaslit by the COVID hysteria pushed by Fake News.
There are churches who are bucking the trend. The one that my mother’s neighbor attends is an example.

What is happening to a lot of church organizations is they have abandoned the Word of God for secular acceptance, ignoring the Word on many subjects while brushing aside teachings that are clear when they are against the New Age type progressive desires.
God didn’t turn into some New Age Hippy where He threw out His commandments, the Church did that. God hasn’t changed His mind, church leaders have imposed their will and desires on God.
The current pope seems to think along with the New Age type of belief that despite the Word in the New Testament saying that the ONLY way to the Father is through Him, they teach that all will be accepted, all religions and beliefs, that we are all God’s children. Yet, God must adopt us as His own, which puts lie to this belief. Look at the God of the Old Testament, He apparently has done an about face from the Old Testament to the New according to the teachings of many church organizations. Progressive Christianity doesn’t teach the Word, it acts like our major media acts, leaving out inconvenient parts of the Laws of God so they can ignore their own sins.
In the Revelation, there becomes one universal church, and it is headed in Rome. Just like with “Progressives”, they stand for all things, and therefore stand for nothing.
Sometimes we forget, Ministers and Priests included, the early history of Christianity, hiding, meeting in secret, writing the sign of the fish on the ground to let folks know where to congregate when the whole world sought them out to destroy them.
Pretty sure that spirit remains, but like watching the fog clear when we see our politicians in action, even the press, we are learning to see clearly in who our flock leaders are and which ones are built for moments like these.

Exactly! There’s no medical sense about them. One doesn’t “lockdown” healthy populations, A, and B, “locked down” people are more like to get bad air, germs, etc., from being inside and definitely breathing inside one’s mask, as well as go stark, raving mad. I feel the anger, frustration, and madness eating away at me, like acid. God preserve us!
And our children are being “educated” by machine. At least taxes should go down for all in the country because “educators” are showing us that there is no need for brick and mortar schools. Sure some systems require teachers to do their virtual learning from a common building but a metal building which will house 50 socially distanced computer stations and the infrastructure to run them is far cheaper than that brick and mortar school designed to provide on-site instruction for 750 students. Given enough time, taxpayers will see that the need for these salaries (especially the ridiculously large ones causing so many union heavy states to be on the verge of bankruptcy) can be routed to pay for canned programs rather than live teachers. Much like McDonald’s did when the first talk of $15/hour minimum wage emerged and kiosks appeared to reduce the number of people required to take orders, the states who have caved to the fear-mongering will have eliminated the need for teachers and classrooms. At least the universities will lose their chokehold on disinformation and indoctrination. The days of radical leftist professors having students holed up in their own little Utopian classrooms where these same professors can spew their Socialist ideas and ideals all while threatening the students with failing grades should be vastly reduced. Added benefit, without the need for all the recruiting, housing, and entertaining of students and the costs associated therein, college could be “free” for all without busting the federal piggy bank.

I am proud to say that I attend Grace Community Church in Sun Valley Los Angeles pastored by the dauntless 81 year old Dr John MacArthur. He dared to defy Lord Gavin and the deadhead LA mayor Garcetti on the lockdowns. They tried to fine him thousands per week but he kept defying and winning in court. He told Garcetti “Take me in, I’ve always wanted a prison ministry!”
The church is overflowing with people and maybe 5% wear masks. It’s like how life used to be. It can be done!! Btw, not one confirmed case has come from it. It’s proof that it’s a fraudulent lockdown.
I sent that letter, that someone posted here from Grace Community Church, to my now ex-Church, they answered me with a text they also posted on their website:

I believe many “denominational” churches are becoming non-denominational because of the decrees/mandates of the liberal church leaders who are not only following but imposing the lockdown orders devised by the politicians. The First Amendment was written to keep the church out of government but, more importantly, the government out of the principles of the church. Our church, too, was the recipient of one of those decrees from the moneychanger uppercrust dictatorship saying that we should remain shut down or, at the very least, only hold socially-distanced outdoor services or follow the Biden lead of honking in the parking lot (you can’t sing dontchaknow). I guess these churches can have the cars parked in the lots and not worry about social distancing and I’m sure that in the heat of summer or the cold of winter, the climate crowd has no issue with massive lots of cars sitting and idling just to get out of the house and feel a part of the church. When these “leaders” seem to ignore their own dictates, these very people who likely have more information on the Chinese Virus than most, it tells you that they know very well the risks to going without masks, ignoring social distancing and so on. Finestein, Cuomo, Newsome, Pelosi have all gone around without masks on, without social distancing, while lecturing us on how we should lock down our freedom. That tells you everything about this is about control and their power, with disregard for science.

I am still teaching Latin at a Catholic school here in central Ohio, and recently asked my students about the Gospel at Mass on Sunday.
From practically all of them I got disbelieving looks: “We didn’t go to church on Sunday!”
“Didn’t you even watch a Mass on T.V. or the Internet?”
Embarrassed silence.
Now, to be sure, the bishop has issued a dispensation from the Sunday obligation, but all the churches are open and indeed having Masses, with half the pews roped off to “keep everyone safe.”
However, the expectation is that, despite the dispensation, you will at least watch a T.V. Mass!
But, no, the students’ lazy and/or pusillanimous 30-and40-something parents are to blame.
If your church is closed, just go find another church. The preachers should have said no to the lockdowns on public worship on week three of this fiasco back last winter. The vulnerable should stay home and watch it on the tube/internet, and the rest of us should get on with the task of passing on the virus, surviving it, and building an impenetrable wall of people with developed immunity that protects the vulnerable. Then they can come out to a society that has not been further trashed by supposed “scientific” advice. A high percentage of “science” is just somebody’s opinion.
This is why it is critical for our President to prevail, but even if the worst happens, that we get the 2 R’s elected in Georgia. Packing the SCOTUS is a given if the evil cabal gains total power.
No bargaining and no more lipstick on this pig. The 2R’s in Georgia are ineffectual and useless without our duly elected President to bring them to heel.
It is all or nothing: Do we the people stand down while our Constitutional Republic is overthrown in a hostile takeover by enemies foreign and domestic? Or do we step up to defend our liberty?
I doubt very seriously if Roberts will finish the next 4 years; he’ll be removed. As to the Church’s any Church goer’s are finding out which leaders are in the game for the right reasons or if just there to pull in the money. The Serious leaders would immediately tell the all the Governors to stick their head up you know where and the Congregation would develop some backbone. What is needed are leaders with a brain and backbone to energize the SHEEP…. I think this lack of action by church leaders is a good thing because at some point the congregation will wake up and change out of the dogma into a real understanding of the world around us.

When the fraudulent election gets to the Supreme Court Kavanaugh is the one I worry about the most. It’s given that Roberts will side with the libs. Kavanaugh seems to want to demonstrate to those that demonized him that he’s a good fair minded Judge. I could be totally wrong just a gut feel. At lot of so called conservative Judges seem to drift to the left. I don’t know of any that drift to the right. Why is that?
Chief Justice Roberts’ response is mushy, to say the least. He essentially states that while the case has merits there is no need to make a decision now because the NY Governor no longer has the area where the churches and synagogues are in a Code Orange or Code Red so there is no need for relief. Think about that reasoning.
So no relief for what harm has already been done? No problem with harsher and unequal treatment for religious gatherings compared to a bike shop or liquor store? And the NY Governor could reinstate the Code Orange or Red 5 minutes after the court’s decision and the case would have to be reapplied all over again. And of course the Governor could once again turn the Code back to Yellow when it goes back to the Court and then back to Red all over again and again.
Chief Justice Roberts is a gutless wonder who does not want to make ‘tough calls’ (shucks, even the easy calls) even when he himself states that the Constitution has been clearly and plainly violated.
It’s horsesh.
Time and effort aside, do these justices (and judges) have any appreciation for what it COSTS to hire a Supreme Court-qualified lawyer in NYC to file a “simple” little letter brief?!?
Roberts is compromised. There is no other explanation for his rulings the past few years. Will his “issues” will ever see the light of day?

Not only did Roberts agree rights had been violated but he objected again on his lame standard of “process” that dealt with specific churches involved vs the actual LAW.
He will buy the counter arguments of the democrats when or if the election steal case comes before the courts; Republicans almost won the House, Republicans held the Senate and gee the President did not loose all the precincts where we used fraudulent election systems.
Roberts is NOT ruling on the law nor even ensuring equal protection under the law.

By the way this case is a bigger win than for religious services et al. It opens the door for the entire “essential business” rationale to be challenged by ALL impacted businesses per the opinions of the 5 concurring Judges.
I concur. The dissent seemed to focus on the idea that “worship services” were not like the essential businesses of bike repair, etc. They were like the nonessential concerts and theater productions, etc. because of the singing and being close for more than an hour, and the churches were actually being given a “better deal” already than those similar activities.
What they fail to realize is that religious worship is deemed ESSENTIAL by virtue of the First Amendment. There is a huge difference between a concert and a mass. Worship services may present the same risk as a concert, (although I doubt either are as risky as the WHO and CDC say they are), but FREEDOM OF WORSHIP is essential and that is the difference.
The sin is, this shouldn’t require the Supreme Court for a ruling. It is self evident.

Retired Magistrate here: Everyone please keep praying that GOD will let us keep our country! If your church is still closed why not get together with other church members in your home or another member’s home. That is what the early Christians did; most of them met in other Christians homes or after the persecution started, in caves. Christian fellowship is so important especially in these stressful times. Get together and sing and bring glory to GOD.

Essential to faith is community. As church leaders wallow in the fear being promoted through the social justice crowd, they lose sight of the need for fellowship. As gathering of a worship community becomes a distant memory, church assumes a lesser role in our lives. This reminds me of C.S. Lewis’ admonition in the Screwtape Letters. In this book a Senior Devil counsels a Junior Devil that he is wasting his time trying to convince people God does not exist. He notes that even Satan believes in God. Rather he should just make people believe God is irrelevant. Sadly, our church leaders have failed to head Lewis’ warning.
