While we have sincere respect for those who sought to get free of the Canadian madness, it is ultimately a good outcome for the USA. A successful exit would have likely begun a process to merge with the USA as a 51st state. Obviously adding another million+ progressive voices to the USA landscape would have been detrimental.

I don’t believe the numbers. We know someone who worked at one of the voting locations here in a rural central Alberta location and the leave votes outnumbered the stay by a 2 to 1 margin. Admittedly, this is a very conservative area but I’ll want to see all the published vote totals and hear from other locations to see if we were truly outliers.

Well…..even if they cheated…….we are happy here with the outcome because we don’t need anymore leftists….and I’ll say leftists instead of progressives….since THAT’S more akin to reality.
I spent $20000 on a legal team to try and help me move to the US. Our application was denied. There is no legal process for conservative Christian Canadians to leave for the US. That option simply is not viable.

I assume part of that search was looking into starting a business? I’ve read a few accounts online of people who planned to do that and have their new business sponsor them.
I have a good friend who owns a very successful company doing Reno work. He spent significant sums to try and relocate his business to the US. He finally told me that it wasn’t worth it and brought his family home.
My wife and I were disappointed but we know that God has us right where He wants us. We live our best life in our little corner.

I think the headline very accurately describes the reality — the very LAST thing the US needs is to take on a Canadian province as a State where a huge majority of the population is completely comfortable with Euro style socialism. Making Alberta a Stae would permanently enshrine 2 more Dem Senators and a couple more Dem Congress Critters 😎
It seems that no one takes into account the fact that if Alberta were to separate from Canada, many federalists (liberals) would leave Alberta and conservatives from other provinces would move there. So an independent Alberta would be more to the right of most of the US states.
Alberta’s ‘ progressive’ ? On two separate questions on the referendum Albertans voted for (1)‘ decreasing immigration to more sustainable levels’ and (2) that ‘ only Canadian citizens would be eligible for public services ‘ , (education, welfare , healthcare etc). Alberta is the most right leaning jurisdiction in North America.
I must say I am a little bemused by the generalized vitriol against Albertans here. I am about to become one though, so perhaps I am biased. 😉
Let’s not forget that if Alberta was to separate, it would have the option to become a country as well as to join the US.
If it did become a country, it would be roughly the same as Norway by population, better off by oil reserves and GDP, have minimal suicidal empathy and way less “cultural enrichment”. Annual revenues would be about $30bn higher than today because no more equalization payments to Ottawa.
And it could shake off the Carney green grift costs and limitations, and trade even more with America under fair trade, not free trade terms.
Lastly it would have some leverage with BC and eastern provinces as all rail and road traffic would need to pass through it.

That’s not surprising. Here in the US, how many times has Texas held secession votes over the years? And it fails every time. People may resent incompetent governance, but that doesn’t mean they’re truly willing to turn their backs on the entire nation. If things really and truly got that bad, a civil war would break out before some genteel bureaucratic vote.
