Appealing almost entirely to an audience that doesn’t recognize the issues that really matter, Fox News has the opportunity to discuss U.S. trade policy with Jamieson Greer yet flubs the entire interview.
Instead of asking about the USMCA withdrawal announcement and the ongoing trade discussions with Mexico, the Fox News pundits misdirect Greer’s expertise and ask questions about the jobs report, the Federal Reserve and the Democrat Socialists of America in elections. Seriously, no joke.
When serious people remark that Fox News is nothing except propaganda for out of touch ‘boomers’ (a pejorative), this Fox News interview is a case study in why many people now hold that opinion. It’s difficult to argue they’re wrong.
That said, within the one minute where trade was actually discussed, USTR Jamieson Greer points out that many Democrats and many Republicans are completely in favor of eliminating the USTR and resetting the baseline of North American trade. This is a key point, because within the economic policy issues the left-right dynamic should not be the prism that matters. Remember, MAGA and the Bernie Bros agreed on 80% of the economic problem. I have trouble with the fact people still watch Fox news. I’d rather listen to the tales of a serious alcoholic, or WNBA coach.
Going behind the wire to see what they are reporting on is one thing, trusting in them another.
Of course there are those that know, others who don’t know, and the remainder who pretend not to know certain things.
The fox news website has become unreadable with ads popouts and page spamming top and bottom. I hate clicking a link and it goes there.
I use an adblocking setup as standard practice as I got tired of all the bloat and adware etc. everywhere ruining the experience and excessively slowing down things on the computer, but I digress.
I have not frequented the site in quite some time so I don’t have much of a baseline for how much more it has degraded since the last visit.
plus, having to weave through every other story being about ‘so-and-so shows her chops in stunning beach bikini’. Fox News has always had a soft-porn gutter mentality. Their website is especially bad.
I chuckled when you mentioned soft porn mentality….when I did watch the networks long ago, all the females wore literally the same style of dress…low-cut and form-fitting. ..just different colors (the Kimberly G. look.) I seem to remember that was an Ailes directive. A few more “serious” ones, who would have looked utterly ridiculous broke that mold.

Bank of America Corp. (NYSE: BAC) economists are now calling for three interest rate hikes before year’s end, a sharp reversal from a forecast just six months ago that anticipated rate cuts through mid-2026.
The Charlotte-based bank’s Global Research team issued a “change of call” report June 22 projecting 75 basis points in hikes beginning in September. The forecast follows the Federal Reserve’s June meeting under newly installed Chair Kevin Warsh, which held rates steady but stripped the policy statement of any language signaling future cuts.

IF many of “the people” (emphasis on “if”) are too damned lazy (or mentally challenged) to research and think for themselves — there is no cure.
However, I am reluctant to attribute this foolishness to a percentage, an area, a race — etc.
I live in California. My day-to-day interactions with people are almost always civil, upbeat and positive. This is true for different races, gender and ethnicity.
I am not talking about downtown L.A. or San Francisco.
Still, I am in cities and towns– not on an avocado farm in the valley.
The American Experience gives us social and civic order and GREATNESS from our bottom-up sense of individual responsibility, accountability, sovereignty and service to things greater than ourselves. Our Rugged Individualism allows us to achieve at levels that amplify God’s Gifts. Our failing education system, technology, media, and systemic social embrace of the lowest common denominators as defining benchmarks have robbed our Nation of its capacity for “common sense” critical thinking and actions.
I always have hope for the intrinsic goodness in people. But it is far too easy to be cordial and gracious when we cannot fathom that our greatest ship in human history has a terminal gash below the waterline that needs to be tended… 🙁

Scripted and not particularly interested is how I’d describe them. They are the sort I’ve encountered at every social gathering I used to frequent here long ago for whom any substantial conversation attempted would be met with eyes glazed over, rictus smiles, and a quick exit.
I think Jamieson Greer tailored his appearance (dumbed down his conversation) knowing exactly who he was talking at…not “to”.

I watch the clip. Frankly, the question that Hemmer asked wasn’t that bad….it gave Greer an opening to be specific about what is going on.
And Greer declined to elaborate! All he did was say “nothing changes right now” — when he could have said “we are pursuing bilateral deals with both and let’s see where that takes us”.
Yeah…neither Fox drone bothered to ask about any bilateral deals. Nor, of course, did they bother to bring up the “we can withdraw with 6 month notice” aspect of the current deal.
But Greer didn’t volunteer to go there….and I suspect on purpose, to keep both Mexico and Canada off balance.
But they sell a lot of books written by their anchors! Because they don’t make enough money…
I’m not surprised that Fox News “flubbed” the interview. Their own shareholder’s interest aligns with every other shareholder interest intent on devaluing the labor of U.S. citizens. The only change they want to see is a return to the uniparty funded offshoring of U.S. jobs, outsourcing of U.S. work to foreign firms, and insourcing of foreign replacement labor at levels preceding this national “disruptor” of their plutocratic ambition.

One incredibly funny thing about the USMCA non-renewal is that the Canadian team had to meet on their national holiday (July 1 – Canada Day) in order to receive the bad news.
I imagine the US citizenry understanding of the current US, Mexico, Canada trade policy is only slightly better than the maybe 0.5-1% in Canada.
Except we won’t feel the sudden full force like a kick to the face.

It seems to me that the Mexicans are finally beginning to have a mature perspective on these issues. Maybe they are finally seeing the destruction that “macquiladoras” have wreaked upon their country.
Maybe the Chinese should sit up and take notice.
Maybe the Canadians should also sit up and take notice of what the Chinese have been doing to them!
Mexico and Canada have never been “compatible countries.” The only motivation for any of this was to provide the Chinese (and, manufacturers happy to use them) with corridors.
Mexico might be figuring out that it can do better. Canada needs to follow suit … because they can do (much!) better, if they try.
