Previously, Toyota Inc informed the Canadian trade delegation that if the USMCA (CUSMA) was dissolved, the most important auto manufacturing operation they have in the country would end. Toyota was being respectful and brutally honest with the Canadians.
Last year, at almost the same time as Toyota made their position clear, Honda put a pause on the plan to build EVs in Ontario [2025 Notice] pending additional review. Today, according to Nikkei, Honda has now completed that review and cancelled the plan. Honda will not build EVs in Canada.
Asahi Kasei, the Japanese material supplier that makes battery separators, a core component used in lithium-ion batteries, will likely make a similar announcement soon. The decision is in response to declining EV sales in combination with current U.S-Canada trade friction. Without guaranteed access to the U.S. market, it makes no sense to invest in Canada.
Electrek – “Honda is shelving its massive C$15 billion ($11 billion) EV and battery manufacturing hub in Ontario, Canada, according to a new report from Nikkei. The move escalates what was initially framed as a temporary pause into what increasingly looks like an indefinite retreat.
[…] When Honda announced the Alliston, Ontario project in April 2024, it was billed as the company’s most ambitious EV commitment yet. The plan called for a new EV assembly plant capable of producing 240,000 vehicles per year, a 36 GWh battery factory, and cathode material processing facilities through joint ventures with POSCO Future M and Asahi Kasei. Production was targeted for 2028.
By May 2025, Honda paused the project for approximately two years, citing tariff uncertainty under the Trump administration and softening EV demand. The company said at the time it would revisit the timeline in 2027. (read more)
Unfortunately, most Canadians have no idea about the background dynamics in this ongoing U.S-Canada trade friction. The Canadian government has strict controls in place to limit information to the Canadian people. The issue of Honda cancelling investment then has no context for the Canadian people to understand. Factually, it is quite sad.

Ha.Ha. F#&*&#$ Ha.
We Canadian President Trump supporters await the spin..😂😂
Cheers!
Good luck Dekester! God bless!
God bless you Dekester.
This is hilarious! Here in Ontario in the 401 corridor job losses are staggering!
I tell everyone! You get what you voted for! Elbows up!!! 😂
DD
I’d believe more that the carpetbagger was installed via fraud just like Fidel Castro jr then being “Elected”
The truckers strike proved most decent Canadians wouldn’t vote for the WEF globalist garbage.
Voter fraud is global
As communism rears its ugly head… the youth of today have no clue there is barely a hairs breadth between their beloved socialism and communism.. Even after the recent history of the Venezuelan collapse into a cartel dictatorship they still don’t get it…
Good point. For one thing it appears critical thinking skills are in short supply across some of those younger demographics. They don’t have to think for themselves after being indoctrinated for 12 or 16 years in most US educational systems.
You need strong character to think for yourself these days. To even be a contrarian. Propaganda to the weak mind is like cocaine, evidently.
D.D. out here in Greater Vancouver B.C. One will find that mass psychosis is very real, and TDS likely terminal.
Good folks that I have known for years, good decent people truly believe President Trump is evil.
When I simply state surely we wouldn’t be in this position if we developed our vast resources, rewarded our well educated ( and we are) population.
It is we seniors tha5 are the worst, especially the females…I can see why so many fall for these fraud scams.
Cheers, and “Nae surrender”
P.S. millions of us are prepped, stepping back and as President Trump states.
“ we will see what happens”🥂💪
Forewarned is forearmed.
Dek if you need to escape Im in eastern Washington and have plenty of room
Why do you find a country being run into the ground funny? Gloating while people are losing jobs, homes, marriages and lives? People trust their politicians to do the right thing and when they don’t, you caper in glee.
Yes, and fewer trucks needed to cross that redundant $5 billion Gordie Howe Bridge to Detroit that Canadians paid for and are begging President Trump to allow to open.
I am sure that you and Dan Dale have prepared for the incoming disaster. Good luck to you both and all of the other freedom loving Canadians who are going to have to suffer through this WEF/Build Back Better/Globalist nightmare that is going to hit Canada.
💪👍
Move to America, Dekester. We love you down here.
This is known as “bad luck”, eh?
Its been about 11 years bad luck
I’m looking at that picture of Carney and I hear a sad trombone…… 🤷♂️
I hear the world’s tiniest violin. Off key.
That’s the one! Now I’m crying…
Eh?
I have a stockpile of tissues if you’re running short, 88 😎
Lol! Ya nailed it, Betsy! 😉
Thanks Betsy! So thoughtful, as always.
Always watching, dear sir 😉👍🏻
Price is Right fail horn.
wah wah wah!
I see a grown man crapping in his pants
They’re not his.
Womp womp.
This is all good news. I wonder if Canada will start restricting their citizens from visiting the USA during the winter months so they will not be able to see this type of news for an extended period of time and digest it—with the fear that people will begin to talk about it and educate others.
Better still..have the U.S.A. impose a $500 a head levy on Canadians going to Hawaii…
That will piss off the Liberal Femi Nazis from our wealthier enclaves.
Full disclosure I took the 5 min drive to the border this morning to gas up, we save approximately 50 cents per litre Can$.
Taxes for Washington State, but not Carnage.
They’re going to need a Chinese style “great firewall” to keep them from finding out via the Internet.
The Internet. Another American invention. Not Canada, and not Europe.
Wasn’t it Al Gore that invented the Internet/S 🤣
Yes, and the algorithm, too.
The latter is named in his honor.
And discovered AGW.
Has news of the fiasco created by climate alarmism ever been denied Canadians? No. They choose to remain willfully ignorant of Ottawa’s participation in the great globalist cabal.
It is good to Remember that Ottawa ( Ontario) determines who is in power.
Then Quebec separatists vote only for what is good for Quebec.
You folks ( Americans) are fortunate for your flawed, but much better system of government.
We have a Senate of Parasites, none are elected. All are by the P.M. in power 😟
We took the U.K system and added the U.S. system which only benefits the party in power..no one else.
Cheers!
MAID in Canada applies to their economy, too.
The further Western nations distance themselves from their Christian heritage, the greater the destruction their citizens will face.
MAID used as a tool to reduce healthcare costs is an excellent example of this destruction. Cheaper to kill it.
They don’t care about the money anymore. They just want the Death.
John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the [only] Way [to God] and the [real] Truth and the [real] Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
You alone, Lord Jesus!
Gipper….they sell the parts for huge profit. Death and Drugs will be Carney’s growth businesses.
Somewhere I got a feeling this carney character might try to sell out everything to China. Like, trade off huge blocks of land, minerals, timber… whatever, just to prop up his image… he can be made to look like a king if the truth is “in the dark”
Yeah, not a bright future,,,,
Sans Alberta, who is moving to secede from the Canuc clutches. Canada is in trouble, serious trouble and sadly their “leaders” turn to the CCP for salvation. Mistake #2.
If Ottawa invites Chinese forces that would obligate much more direct American involvement.
Canada is in quite the pickle.
And they have no military might just like their BIG BROTHER England.
You know that means they would have to use mercenaries which brings its own problems.
Mercenaries like getting paid. No money, no loyalty.
They don’t need mercenaries – they have their CCP partners already on the ground in Alberta’s oil fields.
Partners, they can keep telling themselves that before the inevitable betrayal.
“The decision is in response to declining EV sales…” Are people finally catching on?
Feel badly for the Canadians, but not for Carney and his globalist comrades.
Don’t the majority vote these losers in? Same here. Voters need to take a hard look in the mirror.
It should have been burned to the ground after the Truckers fiasco
The Canadian house of straw, built to address the climate scare, is falling in the wind.
It’s not just waning demand for EVs in the USA, or the tariffs. It’s the flooding of the Canadian market with cheap Chinese EVs.
Canadians (and EU, and Australians) are still stuck with the green mandates that were shoved down our throats under Obama and the Autopen. They may be stuck buying EVs, but they won’t be buying them from Toyota or Honda, at least in sufficient numbers.
Panda very happy.
BTW, good luck Alberta!
Panda will not be happy for very long. There are going to be very few Canadians that will be able to afford an EV or any kind of car.
China floods the market with cheap EV’s, then keeps the carbon credits themselves.
Sneaky panda 🐼
Ha ha
Honda canceled US EV vehicles a few months back. Only a matter of time
“The Canadian government has strict controls in place to limit information to the Canadian people.”
I listen to a Toronto radio station that plays jazz music.
https://jazz.fm/
The Ontario government is running an advertisement puffing themselves up on the station.
https://budget.ontario.ca/2026/index.html
The radio ad mentions building new nuclear power plants, I do not see it highlighted here. The other items mentioned, like cutting red tape, are things PDJT is actually doing.
The Canadian government has economic stimulus plans. They just don’t involve Canada.
Carney’s announcement of this grift to Ukraine made the EXACT same day the separatists in Alberta filed their petition, with over 301,000 signatures. Easily surpassed the 178,000 needed.
The petition deadline date was known months in advance. This is NOT a coincidence. Carney yet again turns his back on his own citizens, as he dances to the tune of his globalist masters.
Many out here in British Columbia are no longer angry, the sheep will be sheep, but the rest of us are quietly withdrawing our consent to be governed.
It should be an interesting few years..
More Death.
But, even so(!) Nobody actually wants, and nobody is actually going to buy, an “electric vehicle.”
This entire contretemps has always been built on “subsidies,” and I hope that “you got yours” while they were still available. (Elon Musk, anyone?)
No One(!) wants an “electric pickup truck” that can’t haul anything . . . No One(!) wants a vehicle that can’t actually drive from [here] to [there]!
And, by the way: “No One(!!) ever actually did!”
Come on Mike!
Everyone wants a battery powered F150 to drive 300 miles on Alberta farm roads when it’s -10F in winter.
turn the heat off to increase the range
One cannot just turn off the temperature regulating circuits for the battery pack(s).
Bad things would happen with the thousands of individual cells comprising them, operating in conditions outside their optimal temperature range.
The winter ice storm here in Texas a couple years ago helped to seal the fate of EV’s in America. News reports with “inconvenient” photos of hundreds of drivers stranded and waiting for hours just to get a charging spot so they could wait several more hours to charge their frozen batteries. The warm-up preconditioning either couldn’t happen or drivers didn’t activate it because they wanted to save juice to stay warm! 🤣 I shouldn’t laugh because those storms really can be life threatening here. It was real life proof of how useless and undependable EV’s can be when you really need them. I can’t imagine Tesla surviving much longer unless they finally adopt hybrid designs.
ICE cars are much safer in inclement weather. The heat that keeps you warm is a byproduct of the combustion.
Essentially free as it would otherwise be dumped to the atmosphere.
Plus, a five gallon gas can in a pinch will keep your car going for a while if you are stuck in place and idle it spareingly. As the case when some motorists found out a couple years back when a blizzard trapped them and made the interstate impassible for a couple of days until it was finally plowed.
I wouldn’t take a battery F150 if you gave it to me for free.
A useless virtue signal.
A neighbor two lots down has one. We rarely see it leave its solar panel topped garage.
I tell you that I knew someone that had a F150 lightning.
Unsurprisingly, it underperformed in otherwise bog standard cool Maine weather for the season and it wasn’t even winter yet.
You’re being sarcastic, right?
It can get to minus 40 f in Alberta.
A dead battery can be the difference between life and dearh.
Funny you mention the temps. In wonderful NYS, their green agenda is MANDATING electric school buses. All school districts are to have their fleet completely electric. It’s a nightmare. NYS has some places with pretty severe winters and temps. Many of the districts had a their first go round with electric buses this past winter. It was not a rousing success. The kids were freezing because the heat inside the bus is not sufficient. The cost of infrastructure at each district is enormous and the cost of future repairs is going to cost tax payers plenty for years to come. Plus many more problems.
None of it matters to Albany though. They are forging ahead with their expensive agenda for green NY. Energy costs are going through the roof and taxes in one of the highest taxed states are also going up. The govt here is looking for every way they can to raise taxes, many of which are back door work arounds to get them. Someone is making a boatload of money off these policies in NY. Yet, the voters still vote blue. It’s just beyond bizarre.
-10F is a pretty average Alberta winter temperature. It can go as low as -50 up here.
Those who have never actually experienced the pain of double digit below zero (f) weather have absolutely no comprehension. I gave up even having conversation about it many years ago.
They. Cannot. Comprehend. How. Quickly. Death. Is. At. The. Door.
Built on subsidies–and mandates.
“This entire contretemps has always been built on “subsidies”
I have always thought Musk was a snake oil salesman, getting in on the ground floor of the grift, which makes him excellent company for the sorts who like to hand out subsidies.
I saw a youtube of a guy who tied an empty trailer to his brand new (he might have just gotten it for the video demonstration) F150. It showed 350 mile range, I think, and as soon as he started driving the range cut roughly in half due to that empty trailer. I forget how it turned out, he was going to pick up a car to bring back……
Let Canada and the Canadian leftists burn. F-them.
Carney probably has a backup plan–have the Chinese take over the plants and give them more subsidies from Canadian tax payers.
Carney probably received a nice multimillion (Canadian) dollar highrise in Beijing as part of his soul-selling bargain.
Who wants to buy EVs no matter where they are made ? Stellantis just took a $2B loss on their EV boondoggle.
The walls are caving in on Carney and Canada. It is rather sad to watch a country self destruct ie: Germany, France, UK, and of course the land of the Snow Mexican Canada.
Ok, all my sadness is gone, the collapse of these countries all stem from the willful intent to enslave their population and embrace the Green Scam.
EVs are a total scam. Overpriced golf carts with bigger wheels. Pete Buttiegig was awarded $7.5 billion to build charging stations that never got built. I wonder where the $7.5 billion went?
Somalia
Some Malia Obama.
Their Learing Centers.
Rubber breasts
Nobody except my stupid leftist brother likes electric vehicles! The lithium battery creates even more pollution not to mention works wonders for ridiculous electric bills! 💁🏻♀️
When did Canada get so communist that they won’t let their people have news? I read they wouldn’t let us in but I thought they’d still get the facts from their own country.
Even their facts are made in China.
“When did Canada get so communist that they won’t let their people have news? ”
Canada has always been left of center, it has just gone over the cliff in the past decade or so. Trudeau gave a talk to a room full of middle age women about his admiration for the Chinese system, where they can just make things happen. All the ladies heard was the Charlie Brown teacher sound, their minds were filled with thoughts of them getting done on a cuban beach by a head of hair. Even better for desperate middle age women, there was the allure of what were actually the facts about Trudeau paying off some teenage student he diddled at the school in Vancouver he had taught at.
Between that and the promise of legal weed, how can any center or center right Party compete for an electorate with a very weak sense of rugged individualism…?
Na Na Hey Hey Goodbye by Steam was the first song that came to mind
Apart from the information controls, it’s so much deeper. The Canadians welfare state will collapse and the Canadian leadership knows it.
The real story is elsewhere. Honda and Sony were teaming up to build the EVs but Honda decided to back away.
https://www.cnbc.com/2026/03/25/sony-honda-joint-venture-scraps-ev-plans-after-honda-strategy-overhaul.html
Canada should just work out a trade agreement with us once USMCA ends.
However, I would rather Honda build plants in the US with American labor for Americans. We can let them sell a few to Canada instead.
Canada already cut a deal with the ChiComs. Hard to compete when Carney already agreed to allow them to mfg or import heavily subsidized vehicles. This is just math for Toyota and Honda.
Well, the math makes the geopolitical implications easy to understand and the decision easier. Japan (Honda and Toyota) want no part of government controlled mfg. what do CCP and Canadian government controlled mfg have to offer, really? They also know the US won’t be buying their worthless goods…period.
Honda has many plants in the U.S., mainly in Alabama, North and South Carolina, and Ohio. Some of those have been operating since the 80s and 90s. Pretty much everything they sell in North America is made in those plants. Even when just assembled from parts made elsewhere, many of those parts, including engines and transmissions, often were made in another U.S. plant. They have a very heavy investment in the U.S. Very little comes from Japan. If there is any sort of trade dispute between the U.S. and Canada and they have to choose sides, you can bet they will side with the U.S. without any hesitation.
Ohio Hondas were, if not still, the most American made of all brands.
Toyota 4Runner. Has always has been made in Japan including the new generation.
Okay. But I was only talking about Honda, not Toyota.
My Toyota dealer Mgr told me that most customers want a Toyota that is made in Japan like the 4runner, Land Cruiser or Highlander. They are the hardest to get and so is the Lexus GX.
Honda has 12 manufacturing plants here in the States starting in 1979 with a line of motorcycles. Auto production began in 1982. My side ‘trade’ is repairing ATV’s here in NW South Dakota for almost 20 yrs now. The Honda ATV line are quality machines that with proper maintenance will continue to run and withstand abuse over the long run. Had an 02′ 350 Rancher come in several yrs ago, needed an internal shifting mechanism replaced. It had over 32,000 miles on it. Couldn’t pull your thumb off the starter button fast enough and it was idling. Some machines have recalls but the overall ‘Lemon’ factor is very low in relation to some other ATV outfits. The people operating Honda are not fools, this EV news is no surprise.
Also deal to sell Chinese vehicles…
Play stupid games…
Canada-the new USSR.
Actually, I’d liken it to the next North Korea, not the former USSR -and certainly not present day Russia.
FILTHY LIBERALS
Cultural Marxism has won. It is Hell here. Tonight gas is $1.95/L.
THATS $7.31 US gallon.
If we threw some rocks at the Peace Bridge, will the US invade us and save Canada?
I hate this Phagtopian Paradise called Canada.
FILTHY LIBERALS
$1.95. It was $2.24 here in Greater Vancouver today..
I drove the 5 mins or so to the border and gassed up for approximately $1.70 or so.
Cheers!
I seriously wonder if Carney is trying to use reverse psychology on PDT, as if he were a child.
“You can’t be the leader of our He-Man EU Girl-Haters Club!”
“Oh, yeah? Well, I’m gonna be the biggest best-est leader of the He-Man EU Girl-Haters Club ever! Let me underwrite your economies and militaries for another half-century and let’s put this foolishness behind us!”
That will not end well for Mark.
Of course, nothing’s going to end well for him at this rate anyway.
Mark Carney, jeeeeesus. It’s always the F Trump types.
“Trump” is so bad. “Trump” Will cause X!
Getting tired of it.
They have nothing else to get them the attention they want and their media whores print and video everything they are asked to by the left. What solution or plan can anyone describe that the democrats/left have proposed in any depth at all. The only thing they rely on is constant hate Trump rhetoric hyped up by the media to plant all sorts of negatives in the public mind.
But does this threat of lost jobs and lost foreign investment create leverage if Canada’s leader has a different agenda anyway, and can control what his population thinks?
I think Carney’s global agenda interests are served by providing China with a Cuba on our northern border.
Canada’s Bill C-18, the Online News Act, added a whole new meaning to the old aphorism, “No news is good news!” which, to Canadian authorities means if the news ain’t good, you don’t get to watch it or listen to it!
And who determines if the news is good? Well, that’s a whole ‘nother story!
See, after the bill received royal assent, (whatever that means), the Department of Canadian Heritage got to work drafting regulations on what news is good news and what news isn’t good news! Then they started enforcing those regulations after Canadian Heritage Minister Pablo Rodriguez decided that, for Canadian citizens, the only good news is no news at all!
Which brings us to another old aphrosim, “Do as I say, not as I do,” since what the Great White North’s chief snow Mexican says is definitely not what he does!
“A free and independent press is fundamental to our democracy,” says Rodriguez.
So why did social media giant, Meta, announce they were ending all access to news on its social media sites for all Canadian citizens before Bill C-18 became law?
Rodriguez doesn’t say…or maybe he does! “If the government can’t stand up for Canadians against tech giants, who will?”
Clear as mud!
““A free and independent press is fundamental to our democracy,” says Rodriguez.”
Yes, Chy Chy Rodriguez…. of the Glasgow Rodriguezes.. good founding canadian stock
Sounds like CCP wannabes. Communism emerging in Canada as the CCP wishes perhaps. USA needs to pay close attention to the red panda’s incursion into our northern neighbor. Seems to be growing very quickly.
Thank you Honda.
Lots of pretending north of the US border.
Snow blind.
Unfortunately, most Canadians have no idea about the background dynamics in this ongoing U.S-Canada trade friction. We live and will die in the vacuum of no meaningful information from our government subsidized media and most certainly not from our elected representatives. The mice don’t know which way to turn or run, the trusting little beggars that they are.
Mark Carney is clearly a WEF globalist puppet and a “yes” man to Beijing. That referendum vote in October in Alberta looms large.
If Albertans think their national government in Ottawa is going to reform itself they’re whistling in the wind!
Even if they vote to separate and become independent, does anyone think the Canadian govt will let them? It was just stated Chinese workers are all through the Canadian oil fields in Alberta. China won’t sit still on this either if they are getting something they need to continue to get.
Plenty of people in Alberta will oppose this and the indigenous people seem to be against it too from the reports I have read, which makes no sense to me at all. You’d think the original people would want to be free of this govt control being forced on every Canadian.

Good luck to those Canadians in Alberta who wish for freedom and are actively trying to get it.
He looks like Ursula’s little brother.
We are going to have to build a Wall on our Northern border. China is determined to have its tentacles in our hemisphere. They want their Fentanyl, Chinese illegals, and products smuggled into the USA. The best way to do it is through our Northern border.
Oddly, this news has not hit the Canadian media yet.
Maybe Carney will respond when he gets back from Albania.
The picture looks like Carney is having a stroke of some sort.
Who wants the EVs anyway – fewer EVs and less lithium batteries headed for the landfills.
Thanks Sundance, but Stop! My sides are hurting. Many here know this was so foreseeable.
Last weekend, in the city of Toronto, brand new condos that once sold for $750/$00 were $250k!
?
Why would Honda invest in an EV market that the Chinese will dominate with absolutely cheap trash EVs?
I’ve been to South Africa the past couple years and many friends I have who live there told me Chinese vehicles are swallowing the market there.
I think it’s something around 25% of the market has been captured.
Many German auto companies are discontinuing there manufacturing in SA.
It’s going to happen in Canada also.
Canada is going to feel massive pain sooner rather than later.
The entire EV narrative was another concocted narrative that was doomed to fail. The EV market is utterly useless and not only is demand soft, but people realize that these virtue signal ornaments just made no sense and was a “depreciation sinkhole.” I hope Alberta part ways one day. I am Canadian and live in the US. Sicken by the Liberal party wrecking ball.
Can you survive off of maple surip like you can honey.
If so they can eat that and hard tac made with flour, salt and water.
umm
Every time I see Carney this picture comes to mind.
