We moved to NE TN from PA over 12 years ago and used to love it. I retired recently thinking well never move again. I thought wrong. Traffic is the worst and people just don’t care. Going to look for someplace more rural.
I was lucky enough to be exposed to southern culture when it was still prevalent. It was when I first discovered I may have been born a Yankee but my heart belonged in the south. That culture has now been more or less wiped out. I feel a great amount of sorrow over that, because when I was exposed to it I felt a great amount of belonging. I suppose that over everything else that has changed is what loss I feel the most when I think of Tennessee and old Appalachia.

Yes, gas is a little cheaper and eggs did come down. Big whoop that’s a few dollars a week.

Our gas prices are down a whole 30 cents a gallon. Big deal; my car holds 12 gallons, so that saves me a whopping $3.60 a fill up. Oh, and my car? TWENTY years old. And I just pray it holds out. I can’t afford to replace it.
My homeowners insurance just went up, again. I expect my property taxes to go up, too. My little house with “attachments” that I have thrown together to live in houses me and the DH, my daughter and her two kids, and now my son. Nobody can afford a place to rent here. The rent rates have doubled in the last 7-8 years, but wages haven’t gone up much at all.
It’s hard to hold on while money pours out of the country to foreign entities to fight endless wars that don’t mean anything to me. Why should I care if Russia takes Ukraine, the hub of corruption, trafficking, and biological warfare research for the whole world?

With reference to Mamdani’s “victory” last night, and what his acceptance speech rhetoric indicates he will do….

Want to know how NYC will fare under a man dedicated to emptying the prisons, making life as miserable as he can for white people, and opening everything up for free for the “oppressed”? The illustration of Gotham City under the rule of Bane, in a movie designed to be just a story, may well be prophetic for NYC’s near future.
I’m wondering if he’ll make a move to confiscate the NYSE…..in the “name of the peoples”, of course.
This is the face of a candidate who apparently won giving his angry, petulant victory speech?
Mamdani, hardly magnanimous in victory, resembled no one more than Barack Obama when his ideological forebear delivered his likewise combative and ungracious first inaugural address. But in the course of his graceless remarks, Mamdani did much more than just recall Obama; he delivered one simple sentence that made it clear that he is a true-believing, serious communist, and that he intends to inflict maximum damage upon New York City.
“We will prove that there is no problem to large for government to solve and no concern too small for it to care about.”
Those are terrifying words.
It’s simple and memorable enough to stand in mortal combat against Ronald Reagan’s old adage: “The most terrifying words in the English language are ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help.’”
The people who voted for Mamdani, and in particular those who enthusiastically applauded this statement on Tuesday night, have endorsed a blanket declaration of totalitarianism. The idea that there is no problem that is outside the purview of government interference, no matter how large or small that problem may be, ought to have sent a chill down the spine of everyone who heard Mamdani say this.
