A smart and strategic move by President Trump, the MAGA warrior of the middle and working-class.
On the night of the second GOPe ‘first loser’ debate, President Donald Trump will be in Detroit giving remarks to striking union workers, pipefitters and various trade workers.
The core of the MAGA coalition is the working and forgotten men and women who keep this nation functioning; a constituency that extends far beyond all races, colors, creeds and affiliations.
(New York Times) – Former President Donald J. Trump is planning to travel to Detroit on the day of the next Republican primary debate, according to two Trump advisers with knowledge of the plans, injecting himself into the labor dispute between striking autoworkers and the nation’s leading auto manufacturers.
The trip, which will include a prime-time speech before current and former union members, is the second consecutive primary debate that Mr. Trump is skipping to instead hold his own counterprogramming. He sat for an interview with the former Fox News host Tucker Carlson that posted online during the first G.O.P. presidential debate in August.
The decision to go to Michigan just days after the United Auto Workers went on strike shows the extent to which Mr. Trump wants to be seen as looking past his primary rivals — and the reality that both he and his political apparatus are already focused on the possibility of a rematch with President Biden.
So instead of attending the next G.O.P. debate — on Sept. 27 in California at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum — Mr. Trump intends to speak to over 500 workers, with his campaign planning to fill the room with plumbers, pipefitters, electricians, as well as autoworkers, according to one of the Trump advisers familiar with the planning. Mr. Trump has not directly addressed the wage demands of striking workers and has attacked the union leadership, but he has tried to more broadly cast himself on the side of autoworkers. (read more)
As a businessman and Main Street builder, President Trump knows the value of labor and is well known for treating his employees and staff exceptionally well. As a builder in many metropolitan areas, for decades Donald Trump has maintained a good working relationship with labor unions and trade workers.
One of the distinctions that separated Donald Trump from the professional Republican field in 2016, was his support for organized labor and his belief that all deals and business enterprises should start with a common respect for the people who do the work. Many stories have been told about President Trump just listening to the people closest to the work to find optimal solutions for the organization; it has been a very effective style of leadership.
While the politics of labor leadership often align with the Democrat Party, sometimes against the wishes of the members, Donald Trump has a unique way of winning the hearts of the workers, while drawing a respectful distinction with union leadership. Quite simply, Trump knows the game and uses his own personal style to authentically connect to the workforce.
So I’m supposed to support the socialist unions now? Don’t think so.
I think Trump would get rid of unions! The rank and file would no longer have to pay dues or PAC money out of their checks. An automatic pay raise. Trump want people to vote Republican he is not and affirming their demands! I was President of a union Local for 7 years. I know how they operate. We need to get rid of them all!
Most people don’t have a choice if they want to work in a particular field. The union heads are as you describe but the rank and file are not!
I was forced to pay teachers’ union dues up to $1000 a year, with very little service when I needed it against abusive admin. But we all did get a cheap Chai-knees made pen with the Union logo at Christmas.
I could not even bring myself to watch the first debate. It really seemed like the kiddy table to me.
It was easier to watch the pundit clips of the losers “best” lines on the next day.
You don’t have to hear the stupid questions either?
Pure genius. Why give any of the losers credence. Trump will end up with a bigger audience. Gather more support- if he already doesn’t have it from these people (I’m sure he’s got half of them).
And it’s a big FU and a you’re not relevant to those who are pretending to think they have a chance.
He is also telling all of his opposition that they are has beens—-new political alliances are developing, and Pr. Trump is the man who knows how to do it.
Good! He will be speaking to those who remember the almost half million auto workers who built Detroit and environs. At times, he must remind people of our potential as a great nation!
we here in the uaw have overthrown the old, corrupt, democrat puppet leadership.
we have wiped the floor of solidarity house and we now have new leaders from the shop floor.
this is a revolution, and thats why none of you know about it.
it is entirely possible, and rational, for the UAW to endorse Trump in 2024.
Trump has huge support in the uaw and in the building trades, both of which i am a member of.
You give me goosebumps, LCPUSA! Thanks for letting us know.
So glad to hear that ! Having grown up in a union household I witnessed first hand the tatics and uses of the membership at the hands of leadership. If there is still a need for unions today I hope they are less abusive and more helpful to their members.
News just said the uaw told trump to stay away.
That is great to hear!
Hope so.
Our family will be watching if it is televised?
It will likely be on Real America’s Voice (RAV) as they generally carry his rallies, etc. Check the listings. Or Sundance will put it on this site also.
Local news in MI is saying UAW president Fain is blasting Trump for his planned visit. “Billionaires like him is what we are fighting against” paraphrase. I’m sure Fain loved it when Bernie Sanders paid a visit last weekend.
Fake news.

To everyone asking: Yes, this is real.
This is the English language spokesman for the Ukrainian armed forces.
This same person posted a video last week threatening violence against anyone who engaged in speech the Ukrainians deemed bad propaganda. Disgusting.

Jack Posobiec has been placed on Ukraine’s sunset list, Myrotvorets.
Even as Brian Krassenstein and others seek to downplay Ukraine’s Myrotvorets (“Peacemaker”) list as not being a “hitlist,” take it from Ukraine’s own spokesperson, who promised that “Russian propagandists will all be hunted down.”

Trump was asked “whose side are you on [in the strike]” and he said, “I’m on the side of making our country great,” which was a bit of a dodge, but then said, “the autoworkers are being sold down the river by their leadership,” and “[the UAW boss] is not doing a good job of representing his union.” Trump supporters the workers.
Funny I’m not union. Though I have many friends among the Pipe Fitters Local and their Trump supporters to a man.
