I took notes during the Ohio government update on the East Palestine train derailment and toxic chemical spill response. The full press briefing is below. The media present was a mix of uncurious stenographers and some inquisitive journalists.
After about 20 minutes of generally obtuse outlines intended to downplay the seriousness of the crisis, which included a game and fish commissioner saying 3,500 fish were killed by the chemical pollutants – yet never actually saying *what* about the chemicals killed the fish, suddenly the Ohio EPA official admitted something important.
WATER QUALITY – After the Ohio EPA spent several minutes saying the released chemicals are *CURRENTLY* dissipating to “non traceable levels” at various points in the downstream waterways, suddenly she admits the “initial slack” of chemicals did reach the Ohio River. [Prompted 19:34, WATCH] The “Contamination Plume” is travelling down the Ohio River at approximately 1 mph, providing the various municipal water systems the ability to disconnect from the Ohio River intake as the toxins pass by.

You have deadly chemicals that are toxic to all type of life in the train wreck burning and they do nothing contain it, makes all levels of government and the train company at fault. The MSM is not reporting. The question is why? This makes the whole area toxic and the questions are: 1) how far is it toxic, 2) who and what is affected and how are they affected, 3) how long is the area affected, 4) why was the response so bad, 5) was the train derailment planned and by who, 6) are people going to die due to this or the handling of this?

Everyone and anyone in the area should have been given a government blank check to go wherever they had to be safe! Their total expenses should be covered! This was likely from descriptions a seized bearing on a wheel set of the tanker involved. There are sensors located on the railway right of way that detect any increased heat and relay this info to the local hq. But they are spaced miles apart so a train can pass and be cleared and then have a problem before the next sensor (which in this case was near E. Palestine. A bearing seizure can occur quite rapidly and proceed to a fire. Also the fire can heat up the contents and cause the car to become further damaged. Once the seizure is full, the likelihood of derailment goes up fast and that’s what happened.
Tho they were probably all going the same place, those tankers should’ve been separated. Again as you will find if you explore; most industrial accidents occur because safety procedures or mechanics were lacking/defective because of the lack of money to get them or repair them. This doesn’t smack of conspiracy except of greed and willingness to take chances because the danger will be to other people.
Every time they get away with cutting corners cements the path going forward.

My late aunt and uncle lived in East Palestine, I’ve been there many times and still have cousins in the general area. As well as hundreds of relatives on down the Ohio River into the tri-state area. The damage this regime has done to the country mounts up daily.
There was plenty … it went into the pockets of the train talkers … not train fixes … also known as tax funded subsidies.
Had they not done away with the conductor, they would have had a set of eyes at the rear locomotive and might have averted this disaster.
With camera and network technology where it is now, they could put forward and rearward cameras on multiple cars on the line. The feed could be on screen so the red flare up would be visible quite easily. But that would mean investing in safety as opposed to cutting corners.

Every single mile this plume of contaminants travels it leaves some behind. All U.S. waters connect in some way. Whoever gave the dunces permission to blow up the chemicals in the train needs to be arrested and put away for life.
If you want a controlled burn you don’t set it on fire in an open field and disperse the byproducts of combustion into the skies. This will eventually impact the Mississippi River and its food production basin as it moves down the Ohio River.

To be fair. I’ve read about this chemical (me not expert) and what they did was the best they could do under the circumstances. Letting it go would’ve caused more damage and spread further but it’s looking now it’s not much different. Keep in mind all the recommendations that they applied are not tried and true from real life incidents. Much of it is guess work and using small controlled trials which do not come near the same as an uncontrolled derailment such as this.
They could have gotten trucks and removed the chemicals from the scene perhaps? That would have taken some time but spared the environment.
The stuff BOILS(!!!) at 8 degrees. It’s refrigerated into liquid. I would venture the refrigeration was not functioning due to the derailment, so the outcome was imminent if they didn’t release it by fire.
They may not have had a good choice in their actions, but they were obligated to be far more accurate and timely in their communication and direction for the population. It is here that they failed so badly it seems there was intent to cover it up.
Won’t happen … as Emanuel clarified during the Obama destruction … the RAT Mantra is “Never Waste a Crisis” … it will be turned into a “Mission Accomplished”.

Around the summer of 1976 Union Carbide released an enormous volume (hundreds of thousands of gallons) of carbon tetrachloride into a tributary of the Ohio River near Nitro, West Virginia – the plume was heavier than water and drifted along coherently for weeks down to the Gulf of Mexico after entering the Mississippi River. Every town along the way, including Cincinnati, advised citizens not to drink or use any water until the plume passed the area. It was hilarious how everyone stood open mouthed while this went on and Union Carbide said, well shucks, we didn’t want that to happen. To be followed by another plume of isopropylchickenwire a few weeks later. Saved on reprocessing a lot of waste chemicals. The chemical industry there did this routinely until it couldn’t. The Cuyahoga River catching fire in Cleveland a few years earlier was an eye opener. Things had to get bad before they got better.
Now we have railroad companies that increasingly are managed by morons from our finest schools who have cut back on inspections and maintenance to jack profitability. You live near a rail line, have a bug out bag ready.
There is a price to be paid to become a third world country, and it adds up in many ways. This is just another brick in the wall.

The correct move was to pump out the tens of thousands of gallons of chemicals to trucks and move it SAFELY from the area. The “controlled” burn into the air and water was criminal. Period. Also, chems of that nature should have been classified as “Theta” or “Dagger”. That means the railroad abandoned the HAZMAT handling and transportation regulations. Again, criminally. When I classified HAZMAT in the military for deployments, federal prison time was over my head if I violated the rules. WTF!
