WATER QUALITY – After the Ohio EPA spent several minutes saying the released chemicals are *CURRENTLY* dissipating to “non traceable levels” at various points in the downstream waterways, suddenly she admits the “initial slack” of chemicals did reach the Ohio River. I have a close relative who was an environmental engineer specializing in water projects for the EPA. He retired 2 years ago and you are exactly right.

I learned decades ago that our water quality is only as safe as what they choose to test for. There must be a specific list of contaminants they look for in the test.

I just had a this thought: remember Biden stopped the rail strike which was going to be about the automation that would reduce the number of workers on each train? What if the only people on that train were the engineer and one other person? Apparently, the incident causing this happened far enough before the actual disaster that it could have been stopped?

Some chemicals are really quite easy to remove from water, reverse osmosis, charcoal filters, and indeed, UV light. But do small water treatment plants have the facilities to do much more than the basics?

2.Have they published in a paper of record the results of their tests?
3 In any of this did they advise the public that their local water treatment plant has to provide (used to be directly to house) reports of the water testing . Now that is generally to notify of the quality of the water after the local system has treated it. But it’s also important to know what the local systems are capable of testing for, treating for, etc. Oh and what all of this will do to their water rates.
Remember the Animas River in Colorado? Our Top Men were involved in that affair as well.

A family member who used to work for a railroad tells me that the tank railroad cars for chemicals are designed to be very strong and withstand most accidents. So one question would be why this car or cars failed.

This is an interesting contrast to potentially hazardous chemicals Colorado, where four libraries have been closed down “out of an abundance of caution” (yes, they really said that phrase again) because, years after everyone knew homeless people were using the libraries to live in, someone suddenly decided to test for meth and found miniscule amounts, in bathroom exhaust fans, that everyone agrees are no big deal. But overnight they shut down the library for the indefinite future, and it spread like, well, like a virus to four libraries in the metro area.
