Jumpin’ jello molds… The supreme court of Pennsylvania has found the Philadelphia DA violated an immunity agreement with Bill Cosby and overturned his conviction saying: “it is the only remedy that comports with society’s reasonable expectations of its elected prosecutors and our criminal justice system.” The court called the arrest of Mr. Cosby “an affront to fundamental fairness, particularly when it results in a criminal prosecution that was forgone for more than a decade.”
The prior conviction of the 83-year-old Cosby was overturned and any future prosecution is barred; a substantive position from the judiciary.

Cosby, 83, had served nearly three years of a three- to 10-year sentence after being found guilty of drugging and violating Temple University sports administrator Andrea Constand at his suburban Philadelphia home in 2004. He was the first celebrity tried and convicted in the #MeToo era.

There is absolutely no physical evidence, since the alleged incidents occurred decades ago, but it’s okay that charges are filed “eleven years and eleven months in” to a twelve-year statute of limitations? “Suspicious cat” is making biscuits right now.
This guy was cleverly cornered into testifying against himself in order to maximize the proceeds from a civil case, based on the promise that he would then not be criminally charged. Then, he was. After the first set of liars had finished enjoying their $3.5 million dollars, they came again. When one liar wasn’t good enough to convince the jury, five more liars were found on the re-trial.

It was an “agreement” that “bound” the Government from prosecuting him. That is, in effect, an immunity agreement. Capiche?

From page 16 of the Court’s decision.
“I concluded that the best way to achieve justice was to create an atmosphere where [Constand] would have the best chance of prevailing in a civil suit against Cosby. With the agreement of [Attorney] Phillips and [Constand’s] lawyers, I wrote the attached as the ONLY comment I would make while the civil case was pending. Again, with the agreement of the defense lawyer and [Constand’s] lawyers, I intentionally and specifically bound the Commonwealth that there would be no state prosecution of Cosby in order to remove from him the ability to claim his Fifth Amendment protection against self-incrimination,”

Sundance, I’m surprised that you got some of the information wrong about the Cosby case. It was NOT the Philadelphia District Attorney who prosecuted Bill Cosby, it was the Montgomery County District Attorney who did. Bill Cosby has a home in the Elkins Park section of Cheltenham Township, the home referred to in the article as being in suburban Philadelphia. I grew up right down the road from where that home is located, only it was in the Elkins Park area, but on the Abington Township side of Township Line Road, not the Cheltenham side where Cosby’s home is. Both townships are in Montgomery County, just outside of the Northeast Philadelphia area. Anyway, I’m quite sure the neighbors around him would be overjoyed if he were to just sell his home there and go live somewhere else. Not the kind of attention that belongs in that neighborhood, or any neighborhood for that matter.
It is obvious you did not take the time to read the linked article. Had you read the linked article, you would know the author of the linked AP article was Maryclaire Dale, not Sundance, and would have directed your criticisms to Ms Dale.
No one in a country as large as ours would know the details you provided, unless one had, as did you, grew up there.

It should be noted that the Philadelphia DA’s office would never have filed any charges against Mr. Cosby. It is a cesspool of corruption in Philly. I do applaud the Montgomery County DA for having the guts to do the right thing on behalf of the victim, something the previous Montgomery County DA wasn’t interested in doing.

There are plenty of great black actors but I never considered Bill Cosby one of them, despite all the accolades and awards he received.
I recall, from down under a few years ago, Bill grabbed my attention, away from his acting ,when he started
pushing back against the left and promoting conservative views.
I thought this was great, and particularly coming from a much admired black man, he wasn’t afraid to speak up.
And then they came for him , big time.
Bill, all you had to do was just shut-up and it’s all fine. But Bill wouldn’t.

With regard to the whole ‘metoo’ thing, I think it absurd that those judged are being judged by today’s standards for acts that took place in a very different time. During the time and circumstances of the crime committed, the acts were well known and very prevalent. I don’t condone the behavior, but lived in that time when it was socially acceptable and legally permissible for men to abuse girls/women. Jump ahead 20, 30, 40 or more years and society has evolved to not accept or legally permit the abuse of girls/women. Mr Cosby was a lech among zillions of other leches back when being a lech was neither enjoyed by the victims nor uncommon. We as a society have progressed. There are plenty of people who are a present threat in this time who are not prosecuted that I would like to see more focus on. Many of them are enjoying political standing while still parading their lechery with no repercussions legally or otherwise.

His appeal finally made it to the PA Supreme Court, and they sided with Cosby.
Cosby always insisted that all his sexual encounters were consensual, as was the drug ingestion.
Do I believe him? I don’t know. It’s a situation where both sides are snakes.
