An interesting development as Big Tech decides to go into full totalitarian surveillance and targeting mode. Encrypted communication apps are now exploding with new users.
This outcome will not come as a surprise to CTH readers because the ‘Rebel Alliance’ has been using encrypted communication like Signal App for several years and planning to deal with the mass targeting currently underway. This is why CTH has/is so closely guarded the privacy of CTH readers.

(Via NYT) – The encrypted messaging services have become the world’s hottest apps over the last week, driven by growing anxiety over the power of the biggest tech companies and privacy concerns.
Neeraj Agrawal, a spokesman for a cryptocurrency think tank, has typically used the encrypted messaging app Signal to chat with privacy-minded colleagues and peers. So he was surprised on Monday when the app alerted him to two new users: Mom and Dad.
“Signal still had a subversive shine to it,” said Mr. Agrawal, 32. “Now my parents are on it.”
[…] Their sudden jump in popularity was spurred by a series of events last week that stoked growing anxiety over some of the big tech companies and their communication apps, like WhatsApp, which Facebook owns. Tech companies including Facebook and Twitter removed thousands of far-right accounts — including President Trump’s — after the storming of the Capitol. Amazon, Apple and Google also cut off support for Parler, a social network popular with Mr. Trump’s fans. In response, conservatives sought out new apps where they could communicate.
At the same time, privacy worries rose over WhatsApp, which last week reminded users in a pop-up notification that it shares some of their data with its parent company. The notification set off a wave of anxiety, fueled by viral chain messages that falsely claimed that Facebook could read WhatsApp messages.
The result was a mass migration that, if it lasts, could weaken the power of Facebook and other big tech companies.” (read more)
Inherently people want freedom, liberty and privacy. The more Big Tech shows they are ideologically totalitarian, and simultaneously supportive of the big surveillance state, the more the free market will provide options to get away from their reach.
What CTH 2.0 undertook two months ago, is exactly the same proactive process many other voices are now shifting toward. As noted, the rebel alliance is growing.
There are more of us than them…. They just control (for now) the communication mechanisms allowing us to see the scale of our assembly. The same outlook and control motive is why Big Tech cannot allow voices to assemble and discuss the 2020 election outcome… They are selling a big lie.
Sundance & AdRem,
It would be a great service if we could have some kind of weekly or daily thread about this topic, possibly with some Treeper expert hosting a Q&A of questions we have about tech, privacy, censorship, targeting, and what platforms/apps/programs/devices are best to use.
Many here are older or not as tech saavy and we neee information we can trust. I try to save random comments about such things here whenever I come across them.
Older and not tech savvy reporting for duty!
When I went to college a computer took up an entire large room and ran on punch cards.
Same here, and if you happened to mess up just ONE of those punch cards in the giant stack you fed into the machine, the whole program aborted. Maybe I should dig out my old 900 pound manual typewriter with the carriage return. Still can type over 100 wpm on that thing.
forty with no mistakes: personal best.
Pretty good for a guy with no mistakes!
at our county college, we had to feed our punch cards into the reader and then wait for the compiler to process the results, which was at the state university
Sounds like a voting machine I know…..
The IBM AN/FSQ-7 computer took up a whole block house building at Luke and the building is still there and used for offices.
When I went to college we still used 3 X 5 index cards. Depending on the direction the world takes they might come back into style.
I distinctly remember numbering them in case the pile had a mishap.
Once had a tour of a L A R G E 3 or 4 story industrial building owned by a guy who had working examples of virtually every commercial computer ever made. He said when he fired up a big, hard-wired IBM?, the lights dimmed for a 3-block radius.
Later wished I had asked him how he got some of those monstrosities in there!
Yes, I punched those cards, used sorters to manipulate them. The rooms the computers sat HAD to be climate controlled and it took days for it to finally churn something out. We were HIGH tech then just as these people THINK they are high tech now. LOL
Check out Rob Braxman’s videos. He calls himself the “Internet Privacy Guy” and I believe he grew up in a dictatorship (possibly China) so he knows what we’re up against. I’ve learned a ton form his videos over the past few days.
Strange that he’s using fakebook to tell us to stay away from fakebook, no?
Scary stuff, indeed! Most have no clue about how pervasive the surveillance has become. And how far removed from reality are those who spend hundreds/thousands to install listening devices (Alexa, Siri, etc) throughout their homes and autos? Can’t they realize that those things must listen to every sound in order to function? Have to wonder how many worker bees get off on tapping into the bedroom Alexa…..
He is also on Odysee. You can search him on YouTube –go to his description box and get bookmarks to his websites. He also has products like an independent VPN and email. He is excellent at teaching in layman’s terms. Watch a bunch of his videos before he gets booted.
Trying my best to never, ever open a YouTube link again.
Who do they think they are?!
Thank you for posting this link,I will be watching his videos.
This man is spot on! Despite using YouTube as his way to get the message out( which I don’t fault him for, ( how else can he inform a large amount of people easily?) He is speaking the truth in warning all to wake up, Socialism will kill you and it’s coming for America and her citizens. We have been so fortunate to live in such a once free country, that our complacency has placed us at this turning point in history.
If America fails, it won’t be the first country or people to lose their freedom and hard earned civil society.
“Tech companies including Facebook and Twitter removed thousands of far-right accounts — including President Trump’s — after the storming of the Capitol”
So sick of the casual lies written as accepted truths.
NYT wrote:

I think it reads better like this:
Last week, many big tech companies removed thousands of [accounts belonging to citizens who have been labeled] far-right, and that stoked growing anxiety over some of the big tech companies’ [activities] and their communication apps, like WhatsApp, which Facebook owns.
After the storming of the Capitol Facebook and Twitter removed thousands of accounts — [beginning with] President Trump’s, [followed by accounts which belong to many of his strongest supporters.] Amazon, Apple and Google also cut off support for Parler. [Concerned about the threat to the Constitution and its first amendment right protections presented by recent big tech decisions], conservatives [have] sought out new apps where they [can] communicate [freely without fear of persecution].
Fixed!
Because I don’t believe in mingling news with editorial, I wil leave it to the editors of the NYT op-ed page to allow columnists to point out the striking parallels between big tech’s now-we’re-a-platform-now-we’re-not 230 protections and Hitler’s rising NAZI press in the 1930’s.
ironically, thank you Japan for awakening the pacifist U.S. as to what was tyranically building
(but the media would not honestly cover for years, prior to Hawaii attack – as seen in Holocaust museum in regards to germany, at the 30’s time )
Similarly the last few decades the culture and mis-educations have incrementally ‘progressed ( ? )’ backwards in the U.S.

knock and the door may be opened up to you…
That is on us to not accept the premise and to not concede our language.
“Storming”? Pretty weak “Storm”, more like a mild breeze, but yeah thats the terminology they are pressing, repeatedly and ad nauseum.
A significant, heavily armed force, multiple breach points, telephone polls as battering rams, thousands pouring in, now THAT would be “storming”.
Breaking a few windows, is at most B &E.
That, and absurdly referring to PT’s Twitter account as “ far right”.
Sadly, far too many conservative writers have adopted the phraseology of the left, concerning both this issue and COVID. I call it out in comments al the time as it’s more concerning to me than seeing it from the left where, after all, it’s to be expected.
“concerning both this issue and [the Chinese/Wuhan Coronavirus]”
There. Fixed it for you.
“…after the storming of the Capitol”
“…after Burning of the Reichstag 2.0” There fixed it for them.
I was there. We did t even realize there were any problems until we say smoke from what we thought was tear gas. Shortly after that we all received cell phone alerts that a curfew had been enacted. At that point the crowd started to disburse. Until I got away from the crowd and had a chance to see what was going on on the web, I had no clue there was a crowd of people who had entered the building or that anyone had been hurt. The term “breach” was used to make it sound more severe. The reality is that of that massive crown wanted to cram every square inch of the capitol it could have with ease. Yet only about 100 people entered the building. This was a massive setup well before the event so the media could get their narrative. They got it and here we are. It is now is against our government. We will prevail. We now know our enemy and we will take the high ground and crush them.
I was also there at the Capitol. Probably 100 feet from the front door. Nobody was going to break down that door. It was opened by the Capitol Police. I also saw white vans escorted by DC Police cruisers with AntiFa getting out of the vans and dispersing with the crowd of Trump supporters. I’ve been to the Capitol where cement barricades were in place. The two foot high bicycle racks were a joke and enabled police and or AntiFa to open the gates to the Capitol grounds. This was all choreographed well in advance.
Wrong Thread – sorry

I looked for Signal and Telegram on my app store (apple), Is this a messaging app to text people?
I joined Telegram to follow certain people. Greenmedinfo was the reason I initially joined. They were targeted months ago as the tyranny has been encroaching for YEARS on holistic medicine. Vaccines also. Censorship and tyranny have been present in the United States for decades. Holistic medicine treats the person instead of the disease, which leads to healing – not a very good business model for Big Pharma.
Tommy Robinson is on Telegram
I find it clumsy but Parler is down so……..
I will suggest – stay away from both. I have ditched duckduckgo (with gibiru.com) and brave (with Dissenter) too. I am typing this using Dissenter browser.
Excerpt from this link related to Signal is copied below to save you time – https://heimdalsecurity.com/blog/the-best-encrypted-messaging-apps/
Looks like Signal was acquired by Jack Dorsey.
“Whisper Systems created Signal as a successor to two separate apps dedicated to encrypted voice calling and encrypted texting.
Encryption was always at the core of the company’s products. When Twitter acquired it in 2011, the goal was to improve the security in the microblogging platform.
Its encryption engine is open source, which means is available for everyone to inspect.
Signal is used by notorious figures in cybersecurity and data privacy, such as Edward Snowden and Bruce Schneier! That’s because in Signal all communication is encrypted end-to-end by default (and it’s one of the few encrypted messaging apps which employ this default system).
Recently, the app received a $50 million investment from the WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton which is supporting the non-profit Signal Foundation’s mission of “making private communication accessible and ubiquitous”.
Signal is also WIRED’s secure messaging recommendation to use it because “it’s free, it works on every mobile platform, and the developers are committed to keeping it simple and fast by not mucking up the experience with ads, web-tracking, stickers, or animated poop emoji.”
App cost: FREE
It can be downloaded for free on Google Play or App Store.”

Threema and RIOT.IM seems to be interesting as WhatsApp alternative
So, this is the second effort I’ve seen to try to undermine confidence in Signal.
Let’s do a little internet research and see if we can confirm or debunk some of the above information.
Hmm. Signal was created by a non profit called the Signal Foundation, not Whisper Systems.
But the founder of Whisper Systems was also the founder of the Signal Foundation, maybe there’s a conspiracy here.
Hm…I don’t think so. The other major contributor/founder to the Signal Foundation was one of the founders of Whatsapp which was bought by Facebook in 2014.
Both of the Founders were involved in companies that were acquired by Big Tech, and the entire basis of the Signal Foundation is that, as a 501c3 non profit, it cannot be “acquired” by big tech.
Seems to me they started the Signal Foundation because they weren’t entirely pleased that their previous work was acquired by other companies.
It’s also clear that even if Whisper Systems had some precursor version of Signal that was acquired by Twitter, it bears little relationship to the current iteration of Signal. The encryption protocol that Signal relies upon was not invented until 2013, two years after the acquisition.
It seems to me that some people are busy trying to draw lines between dots that don’t connect in order to create a misleading picture and create doubts about services popular on the right.
Can’t imagine why anyone would want to do that.
I read that Biden is worried about how many twitter followers he’s going to have.
As Alfred E Neuman (who Biden looks like) would say; what me worry!
Biden can easily draw on the 80 million who supposedly voted for him.
Don’t worry, Joe. You’ll have about as many as attended your rallies!
Or the 12 people who showed up for Biden and Bon Jovi.
LOL! They think all they have to do is get rid of President Trump and Twitter will be theirs! The truth is Trump makes Twitter fun and interesting for supporters and detractors. Without Trump it’s boring.
Without Trump and after all of us leave, Twitter becomes a boring social media platform swamped with “As Seen On TV” ads and porno.
Hunter, that rascal. From what I’ve read, he’s ahead of the curve on this one. How about “As Seen on TV Porno”, starring Hunter Biden? Brought to you by PornHub.
And to think, Hunter will set foot in the White House, with his father’s blessing.
Nothing to CNN here. Move along.
They’re hoping it will make us forget PDC! (Pants Down Clinton)
“the 80 million who supposedly voted for him” = Bots all ( a few of which are human bots known as zombies)
I swear, every time I see biden I see Walter. I just know it’s not Walter because Jeff’s hand isn’t up his…
I should add, ‘It’s to bad, at least with Dunham we’d be in better hands’
I freed myself of Firefox today. I moved to Brave using Startpage for the browser. It took a few tricks and tries to get my passwords moved over, but I got ‘er done! I had to do it the old fashioned way. Save it to a .csv file and imported that. We’ll see how this goes and I’ll report back in a week. 😉
Please do. I recently read somewhere that Startpage was bought by some company, but can’t remember where. I’ve used it as my primary search for years, but now I’m going to have to watch it.
I did that as well two days ago. So far I like it.
I just used the Brave browser and imported my book marks. I don’t keep my logins or passwords in the browser stash. I don’t trust any of them.
Here is the link that TwoLaine shared recently. Worthwhile info on many products and tech tools.

Massive thanks for link
I downloaded the Dissenter browser from Gab. I love it. While Gab is so frustrating as they can’t handle the traffic, the browser works fine.
I have Brave up on four platforms, three on Windows 10 Pro and one on Ubuntu Linux. Nice feature: TOR is built in when you go to private browsing. The Enpass plug-in for Chrome works in Brave. Also, you can sync the various Brave installations. I can sync them through our private Nextcloud rather than Google’s cloud, or OneDrive.
Brave runs faster than Firefox, and I was able to import my bookmarks, bookmark toolbar and passwords easily. Pretty much the same look and feel as Firefox – low learning curve.
Startpage is my default Search Engine, and I have removed Duck Duck Go (because I don’t like who they support with their donations – see their FAQ), and the other search engine choices as well until I know more about them.
TwoLaine, please do report back.

He has videos on how the tech savvy can do it themselves but also sells ones he de-Googles himself. He’s a great presenter and, having escaped a totalitarian country (possibly China), he knows what we’re up against.
Like a gazzilion others I’ve been looking for encrypted messaging applications, specifically for use on Microsoft computers — desktop/laptop.
Signal requires you have it installed on your smartphone to use it from a desktop. Scratch that.
Telegraph can be installed directly to a desktop but “Is not a valid 32 bit application” — it’s probably a 64 bit system so only compatible with 64 bit hardware running a 64 bit OS — Windows 7 maybe? Don’t recall. I’ll have a Win7 system available in a few days and will check that out.
PatchWork is built on Secure Scuttlebutt, runs on Win 7 or later.. Plus for PW is that it’s said to be easy to integrate with TOR. Negative is that so far the documentation truly, really suxxx. Will also test that out in the near future
windows 10 is a surveillance platform.
windows is a surveillance platform.
I fixed it for you.
Its not like they weren’t TELLING us,..”Windows” allows them to look IN, even as we look out.
Not quite as obvious as Dominion, but its there, lol.
Thank you for the good information about Signal. I shared it with a bunch of people. Today was a great day. I transferred my content over to Rumble, and deleted my YouTube account. Next, I will delete my two remaining Gmail accounts. Finally, I am returning over 1,000.00 worth of newly purchased Ring security cameras to Amazon and deleting Google from my computer.
Did you transfer to Rumble one video at at time or is there a batch mode? I have over forty videos and a slow upload speed. I’ve tried a batch program BitChute has and it didn’t work.
This is good news, not because of signal per se, but because this will put the hurt on the tech oligarchs.
Problem is, privacy has long been gone. It’s not new, happening after 9/11. On signal, your text, chats, are encrypted. That’s all well and good until 1) Someone infiltrates a chat and 2) they cap someones else’s phone with your messages on it.
Worse, Apple, Google and Samsung track every move you make down to the yard, using a number of methods that are not defeatable, Smart phones were built that way for advertising tracking and evolved from there. Even if you own a old flip phone they can track you down to the yard because all phones have a chip in them that allows for that. And, if you use a burner phone they can track you from the other phones you call.
So big brother is here to stay. The only way to change that is to pass laws. And that is not looking to good these days. Forget the politicians, the people that run this thing is 3 or steps below politicians and they don’t want any changes that diminish their overlord capability.
And by the way, every vehicle built in the last 7 years or so does the same thing.
Thanks, that’s good to know.
I purchased my Lexus rx 330 in 2003. (2004 model). I like the car so much that I’ve always said if the engine conks out, I’ll just replace the engine.

Help. Y’all are all so tech savvy. I had trouble deleting my twitter and still haven’t been able to get rid of my Instagram.
It takes a month to delete the twitter account, haven;t gotten to instagram yet
I was banned from Twitter the same day as Trump-and have been trying to delete the app since that day. I even asked for “help” from the Twitter Crew. Nothing. I’ll keep trying!
Signal while seemingly secure cant replace gakbook and twatter. That’s the real golden goose.

Using the following irrational, hysterical justification, the Federal Government is being Weaponized AGAIN against anyone who is NOT a Leftist / Progressive / Democratic Socialist.
“Last week a violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol sought to block certification of President-elect Biden’s Electoral College victory, in one of the darkest episodes in American democracy since the Civil War,”

We’re onto their self-projection. The left’s false accusations against conservatives as “dark day” “insurrection” both are what the dems are doing and have been since June 2020 antifa / BLM insurrection.
Close. The certification OF the phoney President-elect Bidens electoral college votes WAS a dark day for America.
The “breach” of the Capitol, as an orchestrated false flag event, also a very dark occurence.
The massing of well over a million patriotic Americans, to peacefully petition their government, was a beautiful event, standing in stark contrast to all that occurred after.
Federal government is being weaponized again because O’biden/Harris is Obama’s 3rd term. Obama is directing it From his dc mansion 2 blocks from the WH. I’m sure his entire cabal are working behind the scenes. He obviously doesn’t have to worry about anyone investigating or monitoring him.

Justice Department prosecutors have formally walked back their assertion in a court filing that previously said —>Capitol rioters sought to “capture and assassinate elected officials.”<— [the big lie hyped by big lying media]
A federal prosecutor in Arizona asked a magistrate judge in a hearing on Friday to strike the line in a recent court filing about defendant Jacob Chansley, a man who is alleged to have led some in the crowd in the first wave into the Capitol with a bullhorn while carrying a spear and wearing a fur head dress.
The entire line the prosecutors want to omit from their court filing is –> “Strong evidence, including Chansley’s own words and actions at the Capitol, supports that the intent of the Capitol rioters was to capture and assassinate elected officials in the United States Government.”<—[the big lie]
The stunning move comes a few hours after the Michael Sherwin, the acting US attorney in Washington, DC, said at a press conference there was –> “no direct evidence of kill and capture teams” at this time in the siege of the Capitol building. <— [the reality]
Must mean they are finding out the kill and capture teams were also Trump haters:)

WHY?
I loaded Signal last week but only today installed it on my wife’s phone for a test. Sure enough, there were connection problems and notices about technical issues. My very first suspicion – and hope – was that it was was due to a massive shift away from Facebook Messenger. Once the issues are fixed, I’ll ask my kids to install it.
I’m working on moving to alt-tech as much as possible, uploading my YouTube videos to other platforms and today starting an experiment with NextCloud, primarily to get a non-Google calendar. Down the road, another step may be a Linux or de-Googled phone.
This will take time to shake out and some level of convenience and features may be lost, but I’m feeling far less conflicted in that my actions are starting to match my words.
Sorry to post another Tweet, but Glenn Greenwald pointed out (among other things) that NYT has targeted Signal and Telegram.
Regarding Signal, that’s insane, as it’s essentially a person to person messaging app with both parties consenting to the communication. Are they going to censor our phone calls next? Come to think of it, I wouldn’t put it past them.
Saw this on our local Minneapolis Crime Watch Twitter feed: Facebook is now restricting users for the offense of contacting police through Facebook about something suspicious. Apparently Facebook now demands its users allow crime to continue unabated.
Why would anyone use Facebook (or email or any asynchronous method of communication) to contact the Police about anything suspicious? What’s wrong with using the phone? Duh!
Good news is Twitter has lost $31 Billion within the last 2 days
Interesting discussion. But the bottom line is that if you are using digital devices, your activities are not private. I would even bet that there’s a section at the NSA dedicated to decrypting “private” messages from social media.
NSA means Nothing Secret Anymore.
Careful, Signal is NOT “the Promised Land!” There’s this:
https://yasha.substack.com/p/signal-is-a-government-op-85e
Wirth reading and following links mentioned.
I want to get off of evil Facebook and still see my grandkids in a video chat. If Signal starts interrupting my calls, telling me I can’t say certain things, I’ll dump it. Until then, I’ll use it.
And t this point, what isn’t a government op? Pretty soon, the grocery stores will be a government op but we’ll still have to buy food to live.. If we can choose among several stores, we would pick the one with the friendly staff. If I can choose among messaging apps, for now I’ll choose one that isn’t Facebook. Heck Zuck has more power than many governments anyway.
Take that article with a grain of salt. The author is a leftist who would have a vested interest in damaging the reputation of a communication medium becoming popular with the right, plus his charges are based on nothing more than innuendo.
I’ve posted an analysis based on my limited research on my blog. Before you write off Signal, take a look and make up your own mind.

Sorry, didn’t see it was already posted.
Every time a leftist organization cuts us off, we should jump for joy for they have just given the finger to half of their customers. Entrepreneurs rejoice! It is our country and our free market that made them who they are. Even lefties were shaken by the brute force power these tech companies blatantly abused. They have just unleashed their own demise. True power is when those who have it choose not to use it. Their true power is now gone forever. They might have captured the high ground over the last week or so, but the thundering sound they hear is the stampede of their customers leaving. Now, entrepreneurs, let’s get to work and shred what’s left of their businesses into a billion pieces amd see to it they never gain ground or establish a foothold ever again. God Always Bats Last.
Thanks! May I borrow that?
Sorry, admin. I had a brain freeze.
Have you seen this: https://yasha.substack.com/p/signal-is-a-government-op-85e?
Personally, I don’t trust anything Yasha Levine says but I don’t have the time or resources to do the research needed to see if there’s any “there” there.
A little reassurance from a reputable, trusted journalistic organization would help if you can find the time to look into it.
Ok, so I did a little digging and this is the conclusion I came to:

Test to comment
I think CTH and the rest of his followers need to possibly re evaluate their thoughts about Signal.
https://yasha.substack.com/p/signal-is-a-government-op-85e
Especially since the app knows his Mom & Dad signed up. No way they should be able to make that link. They claim they do it through “crypotographically hashing” on their server, but that’s just hand-waving mumbo-jumbo for “We store your contact list and associate it with your phone number, but we use a hash algorithm for efficiency.”
I would re-evaluate that substack article. The author is a leftist and his contention that Signal is a false flag is nothing more than conspiracy theory innuendo.
https://sailorcurt.com/2021/01/is-signal-a-false-flag.html/
Does anyone else feel like we are being purposely hearded?
Conservatives absolutely must setup our own communication and news systems to eliminate censorship from the left and insure that free speech is protected. Truth is irrelevant to the demoRATS.
short wave radio… endorsed by Nelly Orr
“So he was surprised on Monday when the app alerted him to two new users: Mom and Dad.”
If this is actually true – how would the app know his “Mom and Dad” had signed up?
Only way I can think of off-hand is that the app reads the contact list on your phone and matches phone numbers. Or more efficiently, that the app downloads your contacts into a database and searches that when new members sign up.
Again, if true – this is concerning, regardless of how it’s done. It means that only the content is encrypted and unknown – the metadata is clear for all to see.
(Why metadata is important: https://ssd.eff.org/en/module/why-metadata-matters)
