Hundreds of people have asked for a new email notification system that will alert people to new content posted on CTH 2.0. It has been a lengthy process of research and deliberation & we have selected a third-party vendor to deliver the requested email notification service.
We have purchased Feedblitz as the provider to send email notifications. You can sign up by clicking the “sign up for email delivery” link in the right margin just under the search box. When you click the link you get this registration box:

CTH looked at several options over the past six weeks. Feedblitz seems to be the best, scalable option for this service. However, a note of caution…
Whenever you subscribe to a notification system you are “opting-in” to a system that needs to track your identity (email address) in order to facilitate the request. The notification system, based on the entire function of the process, is inherently gathering data and assembling a list of subscribers. [Read Privacy Policy Here]
CTH has never assembled data on users, and this email service notification inherently adds an element of data capture that is necessary to perform the function… So enter that process as you wish.
What we can tell you is that of all the available service providers, the privacy policy of Feedblitz seems the most secure; and they do allow users to modify the cookie collection to disable third-party cookies within their service. [Privacy Policy Here]
If you’ve ever actually attempted to access third party sites that control how analytics and ad networks use your “anonymized” data, you know it’s a maddening process.

Nothing I said here is intended as any kind of criticism of CTH.What they accomplished with the transition from WP is an amazing feat of technical wizardry. Managing online mailing lists is a pain.
There are many email service providers who do a credible job, but it’s difficult to know who to trust.
I am in the process of decoupling from all untrusted technical platforms. I’m migrating 50 domain names from google to a host that respects privacy.

I kind of miss the notifications. But in this day and age of so many issues, I think I will pass. I am very tired after everything that’s happened and don’t feel up to coping with yet another issue, tech or otherwise. Even a very small issue. I will simply comment less, and read more. At least for now.
I took this service to mean that only new posts by Sundance or admin or guest poster is the notification we will receive, not notification of comments we may be involved in. But I could be wrong.

I don’t think the mobile version of CTH is available yet. I use my phone exclusively and am waiting as well. Must be a definite challenge to get it up & running because Sundance has said that 50% of his posters are on a mobile device.
I double tap on the text and the right column goes away. I have an Android phone.

On a windows computer you can Ctrl F and search for a key word. I simply search for my user name, but I suspect y’all will need to remember a unique or seldom used word from your post.

PJ: I can’t recall which poster gave out this tip a week or so ago, but copying the ‘reply to’ link at the top left of the comment after it posts and putting it somewhere handy makes it easy to go back and bring up that comment.
I’m getting better at remembering to automatically make it part of the posting process.
It’s not as convenient as notifications, but that’s just fine by me.

At times I suffer from IO (Information Overload) – for that reason I will pass on this wonderful feature. Having faith in this site to reflect the truth in all matters. I understand that, Ma; thanks. I usually copy my comments to a text document and copy the URL. But there are times when it is nice to be notified if there are replies. Some systems do it, but probably, as SD says, with a loss of privacy.
WordPress did have the bell in the upper right that let you know of replies (and likes), which was neat. Wouldn’t mind seeing that again, but not of course from WP.
I suspect that adding the Comment page numbers to the top as well as the bottom would not be a difficult task for the IP guys.
I would rather get foreign internet providers than American providers right now. So, I don’t care what their TOS because they will toss it in the waste basket as soon as the left put pressure on them. So NO i will not sign up.

I have no problem with notifications of new posts myself, actually appreciate them. Evidently I have been placed on a list with BB and I have no idea as to why but every comment is taken down. They have been in a decline for some time. Would not be surprised if their editors ended up in Harris admin.
