Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Deuteronomy 16:19
You shall not pervert justice; you shall not show partiality, nor take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the righteous.
“Each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body” (Ephesians 4:25)
“Be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves” (Matthew 10:16)
Well the Bible says this and that about judgement, manipulation, and twisting words. Which is right? Snakes? Doves?
Seems to me Christ called us to be discerning individuals and make a call as best we can.
Actual wisdom…an anathema to the modern day.
About ’70 or so I had the pleasure of attending a master class hosted by concert guitarist Pepe’ Romero. Pepe’ get my vote as being the greatest living concert guitarist after Andres Segovia. We are hearing a couple of selections from Pepe’s historic recording of Giuliani with the Acamemy of St. Martins In The Fields chamber orchestra. BTW: last time I checked this double DC is still available.
On this recording, Pepe’s is playing a truly historic instrument. “La Wonderful” is a concert guitar made by Miguel Rodriguez in Cordoba, Spain and regarded my many as one of the best guitars ever made.. In my mind it is guitar perfection. At the master class I had the great good fortune of being allowed to play Pepe’s guitar. I can say that the experience from playing the very first note was like going to church.
In this piece, the Allegro maestroso, there’s a long, typically romandic era violin introduction, then there is a two beat pause, and then you hear Pepe’s being playing with astonishing perfection.
geez, he cleaned up NYC crime AND wrote concertos too?
who knew?
?
That was so fun to see! And the crowd loved it!

Repentance And Grace
By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam
When the sinner is convicted by the Holy Spirit of the seriousness of sin and of judgment to come, and cries to the Lord to save him, he has, of course, repented, or changed his mind, as the Greek word signifies. Many of God’s servants, however, considering only the fact that sinners need such a change of mind, conclude that the way to produce the greatest results in their ministry is to stress repentance.
Such should take note of the response to the three great calls to repentance by which the dispensation of the Law was brought to a close: John the Baptist called Israel to repentance but was beheaded as a result (Matt.3:1-12; 14:3-10). The Lord Jesus took up the cry where John had left off (4:17), but was crucified for it. After the resurrection He sent His disciples to preach “repentance and remission of sin…in His name” (Luke 24:47) but Jerusalem refused to repent and it was not long before blood again flowed, as Stephen was stoned to death and a great persecution followed (Acts 8:3).
The guilt of Israel’s impenitence increased too, as the call to repentance was intensified, for while John’s murder was permitted by the people, Christ’s was demanded by them, and Stephen’s was actually committed by them. Thus the so-called “Great Commission” was bogged down at the very start, for if Jerusalem and the covenant people refused to repent, what hope was there that the “nations”(Luke 24:47) would do so?
“But where sin abounded, GRACE did much more abound: That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might GRACE reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord” (Rom.5:20,21).
After calls to repentance had failed, the ascended Lord stooped down to save Saul, the chief of sinners, on the road to Damascus, in anything but a repentant mood. Not by threatening or dealing with him in judgment, but by speaking to him in the tenderest tones He showed him the glory of His grace. This “trophy of grace” was then sent forth to proclaim “the gospel of grace”, and the merits of his crucified, glorified Lord.
This is why repentance was emphasized, indeed was the theme of God’s message, from John until Paul, while grace, proclaimed through the cross and received by faith, gradually displaced it as the theme of God’s message for “this present evil age” (Acts 20:24).

Matthew 3:1 ¶ In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
4 And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.
5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,
6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
7 ¶ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
Matthew 14:3 For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife.
4 For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.
5 And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.
6 But when Herod’s birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.
7 Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.
8 And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist’s head in a charger.
9 And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath’s sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.
10 And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.
Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Luke 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Acts 8:3 As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.
Romans 5:20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
Acts 20:24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
As a professional sinner, I’ll put it this way…
You do a thing, you know it’s wrong. But well you get away with it. But you actually don’t. you got this little voice in the back reminding you basically constantly what a little s*** you are.
Well you help a puppy or something. Help a nice lady over the street. Then you do something bad, and there’s that little voice. Never gives you any credit for anything good you did. It’s really annoying.
On a judgement day, if you get one, I reckon it won’t be little old ladies or puppies you helped vs bad things. It will be “what sorta heart did you have?”.
And there you are judged. And that’s a much bigger, and at the same time easier, metric by which to be judged.
Because no matter what, God always knows your heart. It’s not like you are alone down here this whole time.
That annoying voice also is the same voice when you need it in the really bad times in your life. He’ll know your hearts. And he’ll know if you’ve accepted Him or not. We can run around trying to score life brownie points and all of that. But He’ll see through that stuff. But He’ll also see who you are. And it doesn’t take a lot to fit into the “lost without him” category. You just literally need to be lost without Him. Which we all are anyways. Just accept it.
“As a professional sinner,”
We all are, because we were born that way.
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
The sin nature is passed on though the man, which is why the Lord Jesus Christ could not have had a human father. It was the only way he could lead a sin less life to be the perfect substitutioniary sacrifice for us.

“Never gives you any credit for anything good you did.”
Isaiah 64:6 ¶ But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
“It will be “what sorta heart did you have?”
Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
“God always knows your heart.”
Genesis 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
“it doesn’t take a lot to fit into the “lost without him” category”
Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
“Just accept it.”
1 Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
1 Corinthians 15:1 ¶ Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
2 Corinthians 6:1 ¶ We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.
2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
That’s kind of the point brother.
Professional? God Knows I do it for free. (Saved by Grace)
“This is why repentance was emphasized, indeed was the theme of God’s message, from John until Paul, while grace, proclaimed through the cross and received by faith, gradually displaced it as the theme of God’s message for “this present evil age” (Acts 20:24).”
As what is known as the Great Commission is referenced after a fashion in the article, here are two verses considered to describe it:
Matthew 28:19-20 — “Therefore having gone, disciple all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things, whatever I commanded you. And behold, I am with you all the days, until the completion of the age.”
Acts 1:8 — “But you will receive power, the Holy Spirit having come upon you, and you will be witnesses for Me, both in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth.”
Here are some of Paul’s words concerning his preaching faith and repentance — to all — in a manner consistent with what is known as Christ’s Great Commission:
Acts 20:20-21 — “how I did not shrink back from declaring to you anything being profitable, and teaching you publicly and from house to house, earnestly testifying both to the Jewish and to Greeks repentance in God and faith in our Lord Jesus.”
Acts 26:19-20 — “So then, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, but both first to those in Damascus and Jerusalem, and all the region of Judea, and to the Gentiles, I kept declaring to repent and to turn to God, doing works worthy of repentance.”
Note what Paul “kept declaring“ this whole time from the start of his ministry until he was testifying before Agrippa. By that time, he had visited the named churches (except Rome) to which he would pen letters included in Scripture – – with about half of the letters to churches potentially already having been sent by Acts 26 (one to the Galatians and two each to the Corinthians and the Thessalonians).
That would mean that in addition to those three, the largely-Gentile congregations in Colossae, Ephesus, and Philippi would’ve kept hearing from Paul many years into his ministry “to repent and to turn to God, doing works worthy of repentance”. That doesn’t seem to indicate a fading priority as much as a consistent part of what Paul would declare when sharing the gospel message.
Note that this was also what would’ve been preached initially before the people had heard the gospel, which would not be the case when future letters would be written to established churches. (At that point, Paul was often concerned about to what existing believers were turning as far as false doctrines and old ways.) In Athens after the Jerusalem Council, Paul spoke of what God was now commanding for all men:
Acts 17:30-31 — “So indeed God, having overlooked the times of ignorance, now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He set a day in which He is about to judge the world in righteousness by a man whom He appointed, having provided a guarantee to all, having raised Him out from the dead.”
Getting the word / gospel message out to “all men” / “all the nations” appears to correspond with the aims set forth. Note that declaring to Gentiles to repent appears to be obedience to “the heavenly vision”.
Further context on what Paul was commanded by Jesus in that vision was also shared about a purpose which in large part related to “…the Gentiles to whom I am sending you, to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those having been sanctified by faith in Me” (cf. Acts 26:17-18). The turnings described in verse 18 appear to correspond directly with the turning to God from verse 20 which Paul declared.
“Here are some of Paul’s words concerning his preaching faith and repentance”
Luke wrote the book of Acts, his perspective and purpose for writing was to explain how and why the nation of Israel fell and lost place to be exalted above the other nations.
Romans 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again.
24 For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?
25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
Ephesians 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
14 ¶ For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
“Note that this was also what would’ve been preached initially before the people had heard the gospel”
There are TWO gospels.
One is for Israel’s EARTHLY Kingdom, the other for the body of Christ, which will reside in the HEAVENLY places. Thus reconciling both heaven and earth bsck to God and under his authority.
Galatians 2:7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;
8 (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)
9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.
Romans 11:13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:
Ephesians 1:3 ¶ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
Ephesians 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
If you want to “follow Jesus” in his earthly ministry, the Word of God says that you need a temple and you are under the law.
Matthew 8:4 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe ALL things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
The gospel of the Kingdom was not to be preached to Gentiles until the nation of Israel got their act together.
Matthew 10:5 ¶ These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Matthew 15:23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Paul is the apostle to the Gentiles (nations)
Romans 11:13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:
Romans 15:16 That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ TO THE GENTILES, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost.
1 Timothy 1:16 Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, FOR A PATTERN to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
We are to use the example of the apostle Paul in following the risen, glorified Lord IN HEAVEN to follow Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ, during his earthly ministry, was sent only to the Jews. The 12 apostles are apostles of ISRAEL.
James 1:1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
Luke 22:30 That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Romans 15:8 Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers:
Matthew 10:5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Matthew 15:23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Amen.
We are not under the law – we are under grace. Paul is the ONLY one that wrote instructions about the dispensation of grace. Peter tells his followers to read what Paul wrote.
Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
Ephesians 3:2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:
3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,
4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)
2 Peter 3:15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
1 Corinthians 14:37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.
38 But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.
“Luke wrote the book of Acts, his perspective and purpose for writing was to explain how and why the nation of Israel fell and lost place to be exalted above the other nations.”
“If you want to “follow Jesus” in his earthly ministry, the Word of God says that you need a temple and you are under the law.”
As already noted, Peter was said by Paul to have lived like a Gentile post-Resurrection, yet nobody could reasonably contend that Peter did not continue to “follow Jesus” even were he not following every aspect of the Mosaic law. John wrote in his first epistle: “that which we have seen and have heard, we proclaim to you also, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ.” In all these things, the reality of the Christian walk ties with true believers being dead to sin and to the law (cf. Romans 6:11, 7:4) but alive in Christ and in fellowship with Him.
Note that Paul imitated Christ (1 Cor. 11:1), despite having made this personal observation in the same letter: “myself not being under the Law” (cf. 1 Cor. 9:20). No matter Paul’s level of revelation, this would figure to prompt Christians to study Christ’s life through the gospels (no temple required). Even Paul’s traveling companion Luke saw the value of having and studying these accounts for those who would seek to imitate Christ, as conveyed to Theophilus per Luke 1:1-4 and Acts 1:1-3, which appears to presents yet another Scriptural contrast to such assertions. This also ties into what Paul affirmed to Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:14-17 regarding the ‘sacred writings’ and in fact ‘every Scripture’.
“There are TWO gospels. One is for Israel’s EARTHLY Kingdom, the other for the body of Christ, which will reside in the HEAVENLY places. Thus reconciling both heaven and earth bsck to God and under his authority. [Quotation of Galatians 2:7-9]”
Further context while comparing Scripture:
Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone believing–both to Jewish first, and to Greek.”
So now there appears to be one gospel (Gr. euangelion) for both. What gives?
Though the gospel message included the cross and the resurrection from the start of the post-ascension ministries (Acts 2:23-24), there were going to be population-specific focuses. For the Jews who received this message first, it initially centered on fulfilled prophecies and promises made to “our fathers” as both Peter did (Acts 2-5) and Paul did (Acts 13, cf. Acts 18, 28) and including the cross was part of preached to the Jews first.
Verse 8 informs verse 7. Peter’s personal connection with Jesus during Christ’s earthly ministry was an asset to the group often seeking witnesses to signs, and Paul’s reason-laden approach was a strength to the Greek-dominated culture. Nevertheless, while Peter and Paul preached with diverse emphases from Jerusalem to Mars Hill to Rome, there was unity in the essentials of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ undergirding each declaration of the gospel in their post-ascension ministries. How the unity / sameness of those essentials was revealed to the apostles and brothers is detailed in Acts 10, 11, and 15 and includes Paul and Barnabas in the process (cf. Acts 15:2, 12, 22)
Paul’s approach to preaching the gospel (Gr. euangelion) ‘to all’ — including those Jews and those under the Law — encapsulated this focus:
“What then is my reward? That in preaching the gospel, I should offer the gospel free of charge, so as not to use up my right in the gospel. For being free from all, I myself became servant to all, so that I might win the more. And to the Jews I became like a Jew, so that I might win the Jews. To those under the Law, as under the Law (myself not being under the Law) so that I might win those under the Law. To those outside the Law, as outside the Law (not being outside the law of God, but under the law of Christ) so that I might win those outside the Law. To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all these things to all, so that by all means I might save some. Now I do all things on account of the gospel, that I might become a fellow partaker with it.” (1 Cor. 9:18-23)
Happy Caterday Treepers! This little kitty’s determination to find safety and food reminds me of our little black kitty foundling I named “Tinkerbell”. One cold winter morning I was awakened by a crying kitten. Going outside I couldn’t find the kitty so I put out food. Later, when there was more light, our street fighter Tom Kitty brought this tiny little kitten to the food I’d put out. Of course she instantly became our kitty . . . or we became her persons . . . She’s now 3 years old and is a wonderful, if still scrappy, companion.

Grandmas house was an animal sanctuary as I grew up. Many special needs cats indoors , a stray dog with former mange and such, always there was a new arrival ….. a duck , a seagull , baby racoons ( most fun ) , but all the animals KNEW that that house was CHURCH.
It was Sanctuary, they knew it so much, cats we had never seen would bring a kitten to the doorstep …. and wait, and wait as long as it took.
Once Grammy took in the kitten, the adult cat would leave , never to be seen again.
After 20 or so years, some of those very skittish cats would say — ” I remember YOU …. you may pet me now ” … LOL

it was located within the international corporate headquarters complex..
I was de-mobing.. unloading the chambers after a job..
it was presented to me very informally.. but had enormous presence..
an opportunity arose.. a life-changing one.. this was a rare invitation..
an optional next step.. going international..
they offered me a hitch on their International Corporation team..
but first I would have to do a season in Alaskan waters..
..cold water training.. just prove you can still do what you are doing while you freeze your balls off..
and if I made it through that.. the Company would foot the bill for my North Sea Certification..
and they needed an answer.. right now..
wow.. I was young.. having fun in Texas.. in Houston.. home sweet home..
Houston was good to me.. I loved Houston..
I was already where I wanted to be.. and having a blast..
..and Aberdeen sure ain’t Houston..
I knew if I left.. I would’ve probably never come back..
eventually some blonde nordic chick would’ve swept me off my feet..
and us living happily ever after.. in a fck’n igloo or something..
somewhere in nordic-land.. where it’s fck’n cold all of the time..
and there I’d be.. and not here.. in Texas.. where I was having the time of my life..
I’d be in a fck’n igloo..
with a blonde..
in nordic-land..
hmm..
decisions.. decisions..
in Uptown.. Houston..
..if I ever had to pick just one regret.. this one is certainly in the ballpark..

Happy Caturday!
Y’all stay cozy, now
“I am a lineman for the county ….”
More like a tree trimmer for his own self-proprietorship
OSHA nightmare of the week
mad skills
Wow!
We had several trash trees taken down shortly after the first hurricane after we moved into this house. Several pines, China berry, etc. All very large/old. The neighbors all got together and had one company do all for a “group” price. Watching them was like watching a circus. Crew was probably 15 total, ropes, pullys, two topping 80′ pines taking them down 10′ sections at a time. It was amazing.
I’ve know guys who could pound stakes with Alders, some were just naturals at falling timber.
MEASURE TWICE, CUT ONCE
Wow! You’re so right, nimrodman!
No Cones!!
Gotta have cones..
Everybody knows that…
The second “Ladder Holder’er” protecting the building is the work of a true professional. (Or someone “once” sued) prolly both. (Just a guess)
A whole new definition of “Handy Man”.
(Apologies, if I mis-gendered anyone.)
– When it absolutely, positively has to get done without bringing down the power lines or crushing the house…
And no-one else will touch it…
call “Shimmy’s Tree Service”
@ BR-549
We’ll work something out.
I like the ladder in the bucket deal
Me, too.
Sure looks like they had a plan and cut so as to have enough limb left to support the ladders as they moved up the tree.
Looks like a bit of open area beyond the tree. Most likely felling into that area and “cleaning it up” as they go.
The “buckets” do provide a mobile/stable and trustworthy foundation. (You know your limits… And theirs)
Pull up a lawn chair⛱, pack a couple “Frosty Beverages” in the cooler..
and enjoy the show.
Ladder in the bucket landed my neighbor in a wheel chair for the rest of his life (15+ years). He was a great guy, died a few years ago.
yeah, I worked around a bucket for awhile, heavy construction in my youth, sinking creosote pilings (telephone poles) in the sand at the shore to bolt houses to
boss would grab them with the clamping bucket on a dozer, or lower the bucket and we’d get a chain and hook around the piling for the bucket to lift
once, he was tipping one up from horizontal and we were in close quarters to an adjacent house and he said “get in there between the house and the bucket and hold it up while I get a better bite”
I told him: “F youuuuuuu!”
Wow. Nimrodman, my twin brother burned wood at home many years ago and it was a challenge to find firewood so he put an add in paper as a tree cutting specialist. Even gave the name Precision Tree Cutting. Soon phone was ringing off the hook. Obviously any tree out in the middle of a field could be tackled by anyone so our calls were always out to massive maples in town around wires and homes. Several hairy times. Knee shaking adrenalin moments of sheer terror. Trees are so unpredictable when cutting. Best laid plans don’t always materialize. I have extra appreciation for the guys in this picture. Truly nerves of steel at work here.
DD
I have the opposite problem. I keep up a small farm of about 140 acres. A bit over a year ago, I found a large oak tree had decided to lay down in my corn field. After the harvest I started to cut it up and asked if anyone needed wood. I was cutting up into wood stove lengths. I had four people that hauled all they could use and could not find anyone else. I piled the rest in the edge of the field where it will eventually rot. It was one one big tree, hollow inside. I could stand inside the hollow stump and barely reach the outside with outstretched arms. It split down the middle and fell in two directions. The last bits of it are over 5 feet in diameter.
You see this and realize that there is an untapped wealth of stupidity in the human race.
Tossing bible verses at each other isn’t going to fix anything, and it doesn’t make you more holy or something. So why do it?
Hell, I think I’ve got gobs of bible verses specifically about me or anyone like me.
Just tossing them around isn’t going to convince anyone of anything. Maybe use some context. Or something.
Or is that a bit too much to ask? A bit outside youe comfort zone? Is random bible verses easier?
It’s rather lame to preach at someone and not understand a damned thing about them, and worse, not understand why it is a verse in the first place.
It’s real easy to think you are God’s chosen or something, but a bit harder to understand you are as flawed as anyone you you look down your nose on.
And then to understand the very act of looking down your nose on someone is itself a great sin.
It’s complicated, sure, but the basic idea is you aren’t equipped with what it takes to be unflawed and pass into heaven. You gotta accept you are flawed, and that means accepting everyone else who is. So take your nose and stick it. We’re all a bunch of misfits, whether you like it or not and we have on path to salvation, so take it and stop thinking you are better. Because you stink frankly.
Morning Keln. Sunny and rather cool morning here in Southern Ontario. I’ve been up since 3:30 working with our tiny dog who had 3 beautiful puppies. One little puppy was dead at birth, second died yesterday and the tiniest of them continues to struggle. I protect it and help it to get to its mother for milk nearly hourly and so far so good. But these times do make us ask ourselves why God allows certain things to happen.
Why am I sharing this? Like you, we all have questions. I don’t have all of the answers and in a way I agree with you that Bible verses don’t always seem to answer them either. I don’t know your story, but it probably isn’t much different than the rest of us who come here.
I would be lying if I told you that my faith in Jesus was a perpetual day at the carnival. Dark days come, shake our faith and hope.
If you feel that the days are dark you sure are not alone…but to the cross we cling.
God bless brother. I’ll whisper prayers for you through the day.
DD
I can’t describe the hurt you must have felt, never can at the time I want to. I have special needs pets.
So, how is mom and her little one doing now?
FR. So far so good. Learning to suck without too much help. Mom is more relaxed today.
Have a blessed day.
DD
Good news! THX. And a good day back atcha.
Keln, I agree with most everything you have said, I just have a comment or two and want to expand the thinking a little. Tossing Bible verses around will not fix anything, and it might not change someone, but what it does do is called fellowship of the faithful. People are encouraging each other.
We actually get a number of emails complaining about the large number of religious posts. I feel the same way about that as I do those who only comment on my religious posts to bash faith. Don’t read it. Scroll past it. Everyone of us here among this large number of ragtag misfit Treepers will stumble across a number of things daily that we don’t agree with. Some are worth engaging on, and the discussion benefits all of us. Some are a pass on by opportunity.
Mostly I keep my religion in my own posts, and people really have the opportunity to participate there. Or not. However, so many people make it another place to argue politics that I’ve chosen to close comments on those posts, so I think that my frustration is the exact same thing you are experiencing.
Finally, if you are saying those who post verses and religious thoughts are looking down their nose at you, all of them, you are painting with a very broad brush yourself.
Like I said, I agree with a lot of what you said, but your final sentence puts you squarely in the company of those you condemn, because you sure as heck are looking down your nose at everyone.
Amen.
I have never quoted Bible verses on this site, and not an overly religious person, but several times reading Bible quotes written by others has given me peace.
It’s traditional among civilized persons for the new guy to quietly observe and to then present criticism as circumspect observations rather than throwing rocks. “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”
Keln is not a new guy. He’s been here a very long time, one of our oldies. Usually when someone accuses another commenter of being a newbie they haven’t been here nearly as long. And we don’t have a grading scale here based on time served.
THE ABANDONMENT OF GOD
“God so loved the world that He gave…” John iii. 16
Salvation is not merely deliverance from sin, nor the experience of personal holiness; the salvation of God is deliverance out of self entirely into union with Himself. My experimental knowledge of salvation will be along the line of deliverance from sin and of personal holiness; but salvation means that the Spirit of God has brought me into touch with God’s personality, and I am thrilled with something infinitely greater than myself, I am caught up into the abandonment of God.
To say that we are called to preach holiness or sanctification, is to get into the side eddy. We are called to proclaim Jesus Christ. The fact that He saves from sin and makes us holy is part of the effect of the wonderful abandonment of God.
Abandonment never produces the consciousness of its own effort, because the whole life is taken up with the One to Whom we abandon. Beware of talking about abandonment if you know nothing about it, and you will never know anything about it until you have realized that John iii. 16 means that God gave Himself absolutely. In our abandonment we give ourselves over to God just as God gave Himself for us, without any calculation. The consequence of abandonment never enters into our outlook because our life is taken up with Him.

Scenes Beyond the Grave – Marietta Davis
Chapter XVIII – Marietta Arises to a Sphere of Harmony
18:2
I was reflecting upon this scene when new light broke in upon me. I turned to see whence it issued, when, lo! above me, I saw a lovely being, clad in raiment bright as the sun, reposing in the glory surrounding her. Her countenance shone with heavenly goodness. Calmly she dwelt in the midst of the divine effulgence. She spake, and her voice filled me with delight, saying, “Rest spirit, rest. Let no care depress thee. Dismiss thy thoughts upon the scene just passed. For every willing heart God hath in heaven a mansion prepared. And whoso seeks shall find the Lord a present help in time of need. Those thou hast seen are in the element they indulged while in the body. As he who falls from some dizzy height must bear the pain the wound imparts, even so he who lives and dies in sin, receives the counterpart. This is the law of being.”
“Rest, Marietta, rest; for lo! angelic bands descend. List, sister. That harmony, how sweet! How gently it moves along the heavenly way! It nears us, Marietta; the volume swells upon the heavenly breeze. Its notes accent praises to our Redeemer. Heavenly anthems awake on every hand. Look up, Marietta; lo! we are near a city wherein dwelleth righteousness. No evil enters there. No false spirit shall ever pollute the holy temples thereof. Hark, sister spirit, an angel guardian of the holy hills, addresseth thee.”
Then there came a voice saying, “Marietta, whence art thou? Hast thou left the world of mortal sadness? And why art thou inclined to scenes where evil passions reign? Does thy being vacillate between the spheres of good and evil? I have seen thee in the Paradise of Peace, moving with the blessed, where songs unite and anthems are ever ascending in softest melody. I have seen thee floating in the murky air friendless and alone; thence I witnessed thy sudden fall into the cloud that o’erhangs the arena of inharmonious, wicked beings; and then I saw thee observing every movement until the sight overcame thee; and sinking beneath the burdened vision, I heard thee call for help from God or for some kind angel to befriend thee. Learn from this, that he whose heart is not established in truth, whose nature is not controlled by the law of holy love, is exposed to the attracting influences of evil; for there is no safety for the soul not born of Divine Good. He who hath not this principle, is in moral condition exposed to those influences which tend to outer darkness, and the abode of those existing in the sphere of deadly magnetism. Remember that he who would be the disciple of Truth and enter into rest, must deny himself the gratification of the unholy inclinations of the perverted heart, which cleave to that which does not inspire reverence for God or a desire to be found doing His will; and he must convert the attributes of his being to the exercise of well-doing, for thus and thus only can be secured through grace divine, everlasting good.
To be continued…
I suppose it is… much in the same way that Pepe LePew must be removed from the world because that cartoon “promotes a rape cultuire” while the very same people also tell us that Wet Ass Pussy is “song of the year”.
It is blatant, in-your-face, intentional hypocrisy. I also believe it is intended to distract out attention from what is being done “hehind the scenes” to destroy our nation. To get us to comment and focus on the outrageous and absurd hypocrisy and not look for what they are doing to all of us.
Sorry or not sorry…still cogitating on that part…
I look at the adults in the crowd and wonder how many are predator’s. The children?…no words…

Heads Up for Netflix subscribers – No more sharing 😛
Netflix testing a new feature to curtail password sharing.
Netflix is testing a new feature that could prevent non-subscribers from piggybacking off of a friend’s or family member’s account and effectively stop people from sharing passwords for the streaming service.
The new feature is being tested among a small, random sample of customers worldwide.
Selected users are being asked to confirm they either are/live with the account holder when they enter credentials to log in to the video streaming platform.
A code is sent to the subscriber, which the user is then asked to provide.
Test subjects also have the option to move past the prompt and verify the account later in order to continue streaming, or to create a new account.
This test is designed to help ensure that people using Netflix accounts are authorized to do so.
Verse of the Day for Saturday, March 13, 2021
✟
“It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22 (KJV)
Thank You, Jesus, for blessings received and prayers answered!!!
BE MY VOICE
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow, that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, amen.

Just a warning from an old “fogey” who is not into rap, once you listen to his common sense lyrics and watch his videos you will be hooked.
Christmas night 1776 George Washington took his small Army of about 2,400 lads across the Delaware river to attack the 1,400 man Hessian outpost Near Trenton, NJ. Washington’s force, made up of many young men 16 to 18 years of age, was poorly supplied, clothed, and armed. And yet now they were going to attack professional German mercenaries that had repeatedly defeated them and were well supplied and armed.
Washington really had little choice. He had to have supplies and the Hessians had them. He needed more cannon and small arms, and the Hessians had them. And the enlistments of a large part of his force were expiring at the end of the year and he had now money to pay for re-enlistments and the Hessians had that. And if he had not attacked, more than likely once the river froze the British and their mercenaries would have crossed and chased his small Army down and defeated it.
The Hessian Commander was Col. Johann Rall and he had been tipped off by more than one spy that Washington was going to cross the Delaware and probably attack his outpost. Rall though, like his men, was imbued with the overconfidence of the victor having been a key part of the force that had driven Washington’s disintegrating Army out of New York and chased them across and out of New Jersey.
Contrary to many histories, it seems Rall’s men were for the most part, not drunk or hungover from their Christmas celebrations. But Rall did not anticipate that Washington’s force could cross the river so quickly or march so swiftly and expected to warned by spies of Washington’s approach. And so they were caught unprepared.
The night and morning Washington moved across the river and marched was weather perfect for covering the movement. Freezing mixed precipitation. The kind of weather we called “Ranger weather” when the sounds of movement are muffled and visibility is poor, and the sentries that may be on guard are cold, wet, and miserable and thus more interested in keeping warm and dry than diligently guarding their posts or keeping a look out.
At least two of Washington’s Lads died of hypothermia and several others had their hair frozen to the ground as they laid down and rested awaiting on the New Jersey side for the rest of the force to cross. Thomas Jefferson, who along with Benjamin Franklin and Washington were keen observers and recorders of the weather, recorded that 8 inches of snow fell that night at his Monticello home in Virginia.
Rall and his Hessians were surprised and Washington’s tactics were excellent and unlike so many times previously, his coordination of the elements of his army was nearly perfect. Thus Rall and his men were defeated. About 22 were killed, 948 captured. But something under 400 escaped. Rall was one of those killed. Washington lost the two men frozen to death and had five lads with mostly minor wounds.
Besides all of the materials listed above that Washington gained by his victory, he and his lads gained something else at least equally important. Morale! His lads now had defeated the previously much feared Hessians in battle and had a new found confidence in themselves, their leadership, and that their suffering for the cause had not and would not be in vain.
So the first seeds of victory had been planted. It was now up to Washington to nurture them and keep them viable. And he would do that a few days later by duping and out maneuvering the British and attacking Princeton.
He would then take his Army to Morristown, NJ where they went into winter camp. At Morristown his Army would endure a colder and hungrier winter than the following winter at Valley Forge.
Here is a link to the best depiction of the attack on Trenton that I know of. The Crossing. Jeff Daniels plays the role of George Washington along with several other excellent actors in supporting roles.
This reminds me of the works of the historian David Hackett Fischer and the book “1776” by David McCullough.
When the war ended about 3,500 former Hessian soldiers stayed behind to make their home here. Those that had weaker family ties or obligations recognized that their chance for a better life was much greater here than if they returned home or continued to serve the British as mercs.
This was excellent! Thank you for posting it!
They are my own words.
Hi Rah
Hope you are better.
Liked the GW story
Hair frozen to the ground is a detail I never heard before.
Just one of those little pieces of trivia floating around in my head. A person reads things and some really stick. I can’t remember which book I got that detail from. I have read so many over the years. But I only read histories about such things and not novels.
Perhaps that detail about the hair frozen to the ground stuck because I was a cold weather soldier and suffered hypothermia three times during my time in the Army. In my first year as an SF soldier at Ft. Devens there was another team that got caught up in a weather where it changed from rain, to freezing rain to snow and then the temp dropped to near zero. The whole team got hypothermic. They ended up separated. One of the team members was trying to cross a stream by going over a fallen tree over fast running stream. He fell and a strap from his rucksack hooked on a branch of that log. His head was above the water but he couldn’t get loose and died of hypothermia. Death comes quickly from hypothermia in such a situation. When his body was found, still hooked to that log his head was encrusted where the splashing water had frozen though the stream was still running.
One of those casualties of training which gets a little press one day and then is forgotten by most not directly involved. All the other team members survived.
“Besides all of the materials listed above that Washington gained by his victory, he and his lads gained something else at least equally important. Morale!”
That’s what the AMERICA FIRST – MAGA movement needs – – morale.

This could hurt some people who have been hard hit with the shut downs, job losses, and ended up in collections for debts such as credit cards and other monies owed; in this new $1,400 stimulus payments that are being sent out, whether through direct deposit or by check or debit cards, could be garnished for unpaid debts.
The previous stimulus payments were protected, which meant people could use that money for food and other necessities without worry while lockdowns continued. For many, perhaps most, people this isn’t that big of a deal but there are some people on the edge of ruin that this possibility could be the straw that breaks their last bit of hope.

Concerned citizens over Biden group pushing to DEFUND OUR POLICE.
I just watched the movie “AMBER ALERT” on Amazon. Perhaps each and every person who thinks it is a good idea should take the time to see the movie.
I know there are many, many reasons to keep our great Police active and funded, but this movie just might hit a nerve on some of you. Without this great idea, without the Police following and using Amber Alert, so many children would NEVER BE FOUND ALIVE.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and his family as they seek to lead America back to You. Also, we pray for Angels to protect and support our Sundance as he works for justice and peace.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
