WASHINGTON DC – The Obama administration is expected to announce an agreement with Cuba in early July to reopen embassies and restore diplomatic relations severed more than five decades ago, U.S. sources familiar with the matter said on Friday.
The two sides hope to conclude the deal by the first week of next month, clearing the way for Secretary of State John Kerry to visit Havana soon afterwards for a flag-raising ceremony to upgrade the U.S. Interests Section to a full-scale embassy, the sources said.
Since a breakthrough between the two former Cold War rivals announced in December, negotiators have settled all but a few differences and were confident they would soon be resolved, several sources told Reuters.
They said the exact timetable for the formal embassy opening was unclear because of Kerry’s recovery from a broken leg suffered in a May 31 biking accident in France, as well as the looming June 30 deadline for a final nuclear deal with Iran, which would dominate Kerry’s schedule over the next weeks. This (normalization of relations with Cuba) is something I expected to happen, but I’m uncertain about Obama’s political motives for this move. Does he expect to win favor (for Dems) with the Cuban voters in South FL? Where’s the “Quid Pro Quo” for the US by making a deal with Raul Castro?

More immigrants? I’m sure that embassy will be flooded with requests for travel visas, and once here, they just over stay the visa.

It only solidifies the New World Order. Even Ted Cruz will be surprised. We are all Cuba, Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina, Columbia, Panama, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Belize….and Peru.

I’m curious how many millions will be spend to “upgrade” the embassy. The State Dept claimed there was no money for security in Benghazi, millions for Cuba!

Why do you think Obama is so adamant to close GITMO? He long ago promised El Hefe (Fidel) to return it. Professional courtesy from one commie to another.

Sure why wouldn’t the resident Socialist/Communist, of the WH “not” restore relations with Cuba. Obama has relations with most to all of the “Dictators/Tyrants” of the world; Castor or his brother and Obama should have a lot to discuss … Hatred for America, Destruction of America, you know the same old same old.
AND… This disgusting move should be, “hopefully” one of the less destructive moves Obama has made.
HOPEFULLY ……..

Plus, he’ll repatriate all the criminals hiding there, and then pardon them. Still plenty of time left to cause chaos and strife against his enemies. Hope there is someone as equally as cunning working for the US interests.

Sure, what’s the problem? The resident Socialist/Communist (in the WH), Obama would be restoring relations with Cuba. Obama has relations with most all the “Dictators/Tyrants” of the world … Surprise, surprise, surprise!
Hopefully, this disgusting decision will be one of the less destructive ones

i’m just waiting for him to finish emptying the guantanamo prison, then coming out and with his favorite BS “in keeping with our values” phrase turn the base and land back over to full cuban control because to keep the land from its rightful owners is furthering the worlds impression that america is a subjugating imperial colonialist nation of cowards….or something like that.
you guys know what i’m talking about.

I wonder if there are still enough Cubans in Florida to go for a more successful Bay of Pigs? Now that would be the only way going back into Cuba would be a success. The fact about this is that normal relations with Cuba will mean Casino’s which will drain Billions for dollars out of the US economy further lowering the standard of living of the people he preaches he is trying to help.
