Liberalism Manifested – Ebola Nurse Kaci Hickox Says She Will Not Comply With Quarantine …. Me, Me, Me, Me…

Liberalism on display.  Is it any wonder why the vast majority of Americans do not support the selfish protestations of this Democrat?

Kaci hickox(Bangor Daily) Attorneys for a nurse released from isolation in New Jersey after returning to the U.S. from West Africa say she will not comply with Maine health officials’ requirements that she remain under quarantine at home for 21 days.

Kaci Hickox, who treated Ebola patients in Sierra Leone and shows no symptoms of the virus, agreed to refrain from going out in public for two days, said Steven Hyman of the New York law firm McLaughlin & Stern. She traveled to Maine on Monday by private car after her release from New Jersey, where she was isolated against her will in a tent outside University Hospital in Newark after she flew into New York on Friday.

“She doesn’t want to agree to continue to be confined to a residence beyond the two days,” Hyman said.

Maine health officials have said they expect Hickox to agree to be quarantined at her home until 21 days have passed since her last potential exposure to the virus. Twenty-one days is the maximum incubation period for the Ebola virus.

kaci hickox and partnerLocal officials in Fort Kent, where Hickox lives with her boyfriend, said Tuesday that she was not heading back to town right away. On Tuesday morning, vehicles from about a dozen national and state media outlets lined the road near the house in town, though no one appeared to be home.

Early Tuesday evening, Maine Department of Health and Human Services Commissioner Mary Mayhew noted at a hastily called news conference that the state has the authority to seek a court order to compel quarantine for individuals deemed a public health risk.

She did not address Hickox’s case directly, saying the state has not filed a court order.

Another attorney representing Hickox, New York civil rights lawyer Norman Siegel, said she would contest any potential court order requiring her quarantine at home.

“The conditions that the state of Maine is now requiring Kaci to comply with are unconstitutional and illegal and there is no justification for the state of Maine to infringe on her liberty,” he said.

Hickox will abide by daily monitoring, as recommended the by updated guidelines released Monday by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Hyman said. She has been in regular contact with state health officials, Siegel said.

U.S. CDC Director Tom Frieden called for isolation of people at the highest risk for Ebola infection but said most medical workers returning from the three African nations at the center of the epidemic — Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea — would require daily monitoring without isolation.

The new guidelines recommend considering isolation only for individuals exposed to Ebola who show symptoms. Those with no signs of illness should be monitored for 21 days after the last potential exposure, with symptom-free individuals at the highest risk subject to “restricted movement within the community” and no travel on public transportation, according to the guidelines.  (read more)

Maybe someone in Maine should make a call to Governor Christie in New Jersey and see if N.J. can ship that tent up to Maine so they can keep her in familiar surroundings for the next 18 or so days until her 21 day quarantine is completed.

Someone suggested that this woman could well be a government “set up”. She does work for the CDC. Is it possible that she was NEVER exposed to anyone in west Africa who had Ebola and is being used to “show” the nation that there is no risk of infection and no NEED to quarantine people or restrict travel to and from west Africa?

Exactly. Why would she only be in Africa for two weeks? Why would she feel so empowered to buck the system after she got off the plane and was quarantined? Why would she feel safe in saying she was not going to do what she was supposed to after she was released to go home and self quarantine? Why such a big, loud mouth about it all? Why does she not want anyone to know she works for the CDC? WHY?

    • Well she’s got people fooled. Someone told me told me today that this nurse was there out of the goodness of her heart because we have to go to Africa to stop the disease there and Chris Christie was just a jerk to quarantine her even though she wasn’t showing symptoms.

(It’s hard to explain to a liberal that lack of symptoms in 72 hours does not equal lack of infection over 21 days.)

She did do something very beneficial for others. She just has to understand that there is a possibility she may have caught the virus. There are certain precautions she must take once she entered back in the US. It wasn’t clear to her, and she is one of the first cases to be quarantined. She has to realize the danger to others, but like SD says, she’s just thinking about herself. Once she hired a lawyer, I lost total respect for her. I’m sure soon it will be protocol, so people will know they will be quarantined upon return. I don’t blame her for not wanting to stay in a tent, but she over-dramatized this whole thing.

Here’s what I don’t get. Any person who’s been on this earth long knows that when a feeling of nausea or a pain in the lower abdomen hit, we’re not always at home to use our own bathroom. Any person also knows that one doesn’t simply will himself to NOT vomit or NOT expel liquid waste from his anus.

What makes this bi_ch or anyone else believe that when symptoms DO hit, they’ll be in the confines of their own home and not possibly infect others? If I’m a judge, that’s what I say. Period.

Symptomless? Well, guess what? Symptoms pop up UNEXPECTEDLY.

      • To be declared noninfectious of a viral illness, you must be asymptomatic for a complete and continuous 24 hours WITHOUT use of medication that would mask symptoms (like Tylenol). She had an elevated temp, just b/c she says different doesn’t make it so.

If I recall correctly, and it may have been the NY doctor I’m thinking of, but thought I read that they left US mid to late September, but then only spent most recent week prior to returning to US actually treating Ebola patients. So does that mean 1st week or two were vacation? Gone for month, treat ebola for a week but don’t isolate for 3 weeks after returning? Would seem these oh so humanitarian doc’s , heroes in fact, don’t mind throwing in a week of work at the end of vacation, but how dare we ask for 3 weeks isolation upon return to try and ensure this horrid virus doesn’t take hold in the homeland.

Is it CONCIEVABLE that there is a concerted effort to create from nothing a whole new class of protected persons?

It would seem that the Ferguson nonsense has totally taken the bloom off the rose (not to mention a whole litany of offenses) and now the Regime is working on creating a “perfect” protected class, that does not rely upon race or anything except Ebola. So, it would follow that the solid survival instinct to protect oneself, ones family and society in general will be thrown under the bus as a category of “racism”. This will be something new and quite powerful.

The “victims” (some actual, some politically designated [see Nurse Hickox as an example]) will be given total top cover by the Regime, anyone standing against will have the full weight of the Regime against them.

Somehow, this will start to unify with the vehement anti-2nd Amendment crowd (aka victim disarmament advocacy, pro state monopoly on violence) as this situation unfolds.

This will not break cleanly, nor predictably. I have come to the unfortunate conclusion that Ebola will be only part of the problem, for Regime and subject (reluctant as they may be) alike. Newton’s Law & Thermodynamics applies.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the science here says there’s just about no risk at all, and the government wants to quarantine her on its say-so without bothering to go to court for a court order. I understand that they’ve just started to pursue the order, but they had plenty of time to get the ball rolling if that’s what they wanted to do.

What this really looks like to me is an attempt for the government – this time at the state level – to assert power that it simply doesn’t have in this case.

Bellevue Staff Consumed With Ebola Care, Transfers ICU Patients To NYU Langone
    October 27, 2014 5:24 PM
Bellevue Hospital Center has been forced to transport its intensive care unit patients two blocks north to NYU Langone Medical Center, as the staff at the Bellevue ICU are consumed with Ebola care.

NYU Langone accepted two adult patients over the weekend from the Bellevue ICU, and was expecting to take two more pediatric ICU patients later Monday. The hospitals campuses are located about two blocks apart on the East Side of Manhattan.

“These recent transfers will help alleviate some of the demand on Bellevue’s critical care staff as they focus on current patient care issues,” the hospitals said in a joint statement.http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2014/10/27/bellevue-staff-consumed-with-ebola-care-transfers-icu-patients-to-nyu-langone/

Needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, eh?

Recall that one of the early Ebola vectors behaved badly, by urinating on medical staff in Nigeria. Get crazy while suspected of Ebola, teh Police should end that right then and there, to keep clean up to a minimum.

From the article that NiceRN posted above.

Alumna Kaci Hickox takes a reasoned approach to almost everything. She’s enthusiastic about nursing, but her career choices follow a logical order.
“I always felt a strong desire to work overseas with vulnerable populations, and nursing seemed to be a perfect avenue,” she says. “On top of that, I knew there was—and still is—a nursing shortage and that I would have job security.”
It just made sense to pursue a two-year postgraduate fellowship in applied epidemiology with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Las Vegas.
Think of the CDCP’s Epidemic Intelligence Service as the CIA of public health. EIS teams respond to crises such as the West Nile virus and the pandemic H1N1 influenza outbreak. Hickox ’02 will work with the country’s top epidemiologists to analyze and improve health and disease surveillance.
Her first overseas project came in 2004 with the International Medical Corps after the tsunami in Indonesia. “While the work there was difficult and challenging, both professionally and emotionally, it also made me feel alive in a new way,” she says.
After Doctors Without Borders turned her down, she enrolled at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and received a Tropical Nursing Diploma. She also graduated from Johns Hopkins University’s dual program for a Master in Public Health and Master of Science in Nursing.
Her perseverance paid off. She landed that position she wanted with Doctors Without Borders in Myanmar in Southeast Asia, where she spent two years managing three primary health care clinics. In 2010 she was working on a measles outbreak in northern Nigeria when the Doctors Without Borders team conducted a medical investigation. Children were dying in one village, and the team discovered the cause to be acute lead poisoning from poor gold mining practices.
“After that experience and others like it, I realize that we need to find better ways to improve health surveillance and outbreak response in settings with poor resources,” Hickox says. “My training in the EIS with the CDC will allow me to learn the gold standard of this kind of work.”

I just returned from an overseas flight that originating in Munich and ended at Washington Dulles, one of the assigned Ebola screening points.

We had a passenger on the flight who, about 90 minutes before touchdown in a 9 + hr flight, began projectile vomiting. How this incident was handled in flight was alarming, to put it mildly.
After handling vomit soaked blankets, air sickness bags and other assorted contaminated items, the ungloved crew then tried to complete service by offering food and drink to the remaining passengers.

Furthermore, there was no medical staff awaiting the plane, and the cabin crew advised other alarmed passengers that THEY decided the vomiter had “food poisoning”. Passengers were allowed to deplane by walking through the vomit-soaked carpeting.

We are in the very best of hands.

There needs to be immediate training of airline employees on how to handle this sort of thing. The key word here that bothers me is “projectile”. There should be special containers for disposing of the waste and the stewardesses should have to wear thick gloves when handling the waste. On your flight they should have announced there would be no food and beverage service after handling that bare handed. There should also be disposable shoe coverings for people to slip on to walk through that waste. Once off the plane another gloved airline employee should remove the shoe coverings and dispose of properly. All airlines should have hazard waste containers. Wolverines know more about infection control than all of these libtards calling the shots.

The way this idiot is carrying on, feels like she’s planning to stay in the news for a while – I’d bet she’ll stop making waves the day after the elections. The Usurper will have no more need for diversions and distractions, and this little idiot Lib publicity hound will be properly compensated and let fade into the background.
(Properly compensated..hhmmmm,…. May I suggest –>>an Ebola vaccine?)

        ShouldaStayedInSkool,
Ooops, I actually meant the opposite of what seems to have come across.
Since there is no ‘safe, official’ Ebola vaccine, and any vaccination is basically an injection of a live virus, I was offering my support for ‘rewarding’ Hickok with one of those, since she is all about ‘volunteering’ and all. From everything I gathered by now about her ‘work’ in Africa it seemed like a reward on part with the ‘sacrifice.’
Uuuugghhhhh, somehow, in mind last night it made perfect sense.

In all seriousness, I completely agree that any and all available vaccines, serums, and other experimental treatments should be set aside for those who make the true sacrifice of putting their lives in danger on the front lines of fight against this disease, not for jerks with ulterior, political motives like Frieden, Samantha Power and of course, Kaci Hickox.

From A Tale of Two Ebola Research Mishaps, an American researcher (USAMRIID), after accidentally sticking herself with a needle she had just used to inject Ebola into a research mouse:

She inadvertently stuck herself with the needle. It went right through her bio-safety suit glove and her surgical glove into the soft muscle of her hand. (She was trying to inject the sample into the mouse’s belly, whilst holding the mouse in her hand). She was in a Bio Safety Level-4 containment lab at the time, the strictest and most inconvenient of medical precautions.

…Anyway, she thought the plunger didn’t move, but instantly reported the accident, and took basic first-aid measures. And things started to happen. Because an ebola patient is not infectious for 24 hours, she was allowed to go home and pack for a month away from home. (Home wasn’t very far, because the same facility where she worked hosted her quarantine area). Then she came back to USAMRIID, and walked through the round stainless-steel vault door of RIID’s “Patient Isolation Suite,” or, as everybody called it, The Slammer. There she would stay for 21 days.

24 hours after known exposure is a little bit different time frame than after a patient starts to show symptoms… WHAT THE HECK ?

Typical libtard, immoral hack…. “The collective”…until it’s me….step on anyone’s toes, but mine….sacrifice for the “better good”…me….ALL views are legit, as long as they are MINE….Everyone is special, but not as special as ME….AND the ONE true axiom the WE not thee need to remember? CRAP flows downhill! When the Oval Office is a cesspool, EVERY department, adjunct, affiliate, whether federal, state or supposed “independent media” will be covered in “shiite”….This piece of poo has just replaced “pajama boy” as the most dispicable optic of recent BS optics in this 6 year old campaign of “who can make this s**t look the best? I hate to consider what is coming soon…first to Ferguson/St. Louis and then EVERYWHERE because of people like this. I am fairly safe in a rural part of Oregon, prepared well for anything but maybe those dang zombies, but I pray for those Treepers that are in areas of this Country that are more “EXPOSED”….Chip, et al….leave if possible, shoot until the threat is gone if you must stay. It is coming…we have ALL seen that since 2009. I was born in 1952 and have seen all the attempts at “legislating” equality, from Johnson on up, to no avail, but THIS POS and his administration have sent “race relations” back to the time of the “whitehooded” days of DEMOCRAT lychings, before they figured out they could save time, effort and the price of rope by locking blacks into dependence upon THEM, the “New Massa” for their existence.

Equality IS written into law that works, but it is GOD’S law…not man’s. God and Christ are being discarded and attacked. We are on our own. I pray consistently for my fellow Treepers, for my “head-in- the-sand” family and friends…..for our Republic. Though my physical heart threatens to cease beating at any time, I remain in the fight until the end! And now my requested epitaph for my headstone…… WOLVERINES….!!!

Kaci Hickox is in the same category of egotistical, arrogant and selfish people as Liberian patient Zero Ebola-Man Thomas Eric Duncan.

This type of me, me, me, me, person demonstrates complete disregard and disrespect for all other people including their family, friends, neighbors, community, pets and anyone else that unknowing deals with, serves or otherwise comes into contact with them.

The Doctors, New York City Ebola patient, Dr. Craig Spencer and, NBC’s chief medical editor Dr. Nancy Snyderman who violated quarantine in New Jersey, fall into the same category as Duncan and Hickox.

The Dallas Nurses who cared for Ebola-Man Duncan, Nina Pham and Amber Vinson consciously followed CDC quarantine procedures of the time. They, also thought they were safe, but look what happened!

But, by far, Kaci me, me, me, me, Hickox is the most egotistical of them all – she truly is immoral and dangerous!

WTH? What’s the point of agreeing not to go out in public for TWO days?? Where did 2 days come from and what’s it based on?? Idiocy on display here. She TREATED PEOPLE WITH EBOLA and she cannot find it within herself, as a health professional, to adhere to guidelines that may prevent her from infecting someone else?

I hate to say this (and I’m putting on my lightening rod hat as I type) but it would serve her right if the court issued a quarantine order putting her under armed guard and she not only came down with Ebola, but was one of the ones who doesn’t have fever and it was rampant in her system before she was diagnosed. Whew – got it out and I didn’t catch on fire.

The self-centered thinking of some people never ceases to amaze me. Selfish beyond measure.

At this point, her knowledge of her Ebola potential exposure is undeniable. She should be charged with some form of knowing endangerment, perhaps attempted homicide. Her actions are a deliberate breach of the peace and are causing disturbance and alarm.

What will they do when the first moron gets up in a crowded movie theater and shouts, “I HAVE EBOLA!”? Will the patrons just sit there, or will the raw amygdala over-ride the Regime programming and desensitization to imminent, mortal threats?

It would appear that the Ebola Vector Nurse is nothing more than an Ebola Jihadist, looking to export panic, if not necessarily disease far and wide.

I sit here, pondering the difference, if any, between the Angel of Death (aka Nurse Hickox) and a Hitlerian Einsatzgruppe roaming Eastern Europe and seeking to force the diktats of the Regime upon any and all to the point of death. I cannot come up with a difference… except that the Einsatzgruppe were armed with small arms (some exceptions), Nurse Angel of Death is armed (potentially) with a biological weapon of mass destruction.

Will the Regime offer even MOAR protections and assistance to the first infected Jihadi to arrive? Perhaps a red carpet, a ticker tape parade? Forced entry into the schools where your kids are, assisted by the local SWAT unit? Get infected, or else? The only good citizen is an infected citizen?

Good Lord, I need the 2nd cup of coffee right now.

These healthcare workers that selfishly break quarantine should be charged with attempted murder should they willingly or inadvertently infect anyone else. AIDS was treated in this manner for those who willingly transmitted the disease to other people. I’ll bet government in Africa are much harsher on hedonist like this…

    • Dr. Craig Spencer, a practicing, licensed physician who just returned from treating Ebola infected patients in West Africa, LIED ABOUT HIS ACTIVITIES? What the hell is going on with the medical professionals who work for Doctors Without Borders? Are they intent on spreading this disease in this country? This is demented.

Local news reports say Hickox is the talk of the small town by ‘Scared’ locals. Fort Kent residents are canceling medical procedures out of fear of Hickox returning to Fort Kent after being released from quarantine in New Jersey.

Students at the college of her nursing student boyfriend Ted Wilbur, the University of Maine at Fort Kent, were said to be ‘panicked’ that the boyfriend would return to campus after spending time with Hickox–with some students talking a boycott.

She is causing fear and chaos everywhere she goes!

Other people would also certainly shun her presence, and the neighbors would surely get tired of the sound and light show.

There was some sympathy for her initial treatment, but since this stunt at home and her talk about suing every has decried her as a selfish egoist. So, be careful to call her actions the personification of a liberal. Plenty of liberals are just as worried about Ebola as conservatives…

When it comes to standing up for our rights, I can assure you we will/do, and not because like you, we have drank the koolaid, but because it is RIGHT and GODLY!!!
