Hurricane Delta is a cat-3 storm with sustained winds near 115 mph, as it approaches the Louisiana coastal area. Residents in east-Texas and Louisiana should pay close attention as the storm is expected to make landfall later this evening.
Hurricane Center – At 1000 AM CDT (1500 UTC), the center of Hurricane Delta was located near latitude 28.0 North, longitude 93.8 West. Delta is moving toward the north near 13 mph (20 km/h). A turn toward the north-northeast is expected this afternoon, followed by a northeastward motion during the day Saturday.
On the forecast track, the center of Delta should make landfall along the coast of southwestern Louisiana later this afternoon or this evening, and then move across central and northeastern Louisiana tonight and Saturday morning.
Maximum sustained winds are near 115 mph (185 km/h) with higher gusts. Delta is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Slow weakening is expected before landfall, with rapid weakening expected after the center moves inland.
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 40 miles (65 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 160 miles (260 km). (more)
Prayers for mercy and help, especially those already dealing with loss from other events
TM-Echo your prayer!!!
Pray for us, electricity’s been out since before midnight. Dawn is just breaking with winds picking up. We’re in the purple area and the eye hasn’t gotten here yet. That said, South of us got pummeled again yesterday.

God keep you and yours safe!
ty sundance.
upper and lower troughs and sheer should mitigate wind power and steer Delta easterly. last 18 hours this.combined with colder western gulf basin water (thanks Laura) dropped forward velocity from 16 to 10/12.
data shows these effects…963 and rising.
we will get lots of rain and probably 2-6 hours of 40/70 mph winds…at or around 7 pm to midnight local (lake Charles).
based on goes east imagery this storm is influenced significantly by the colder air mass at upper and mid bounds…it jogged quite a bit to north and then the core bounced easterly around 10
hours ago. my prediction is this will continue.
we started the first heavy rain squalls at 1000 hrs local.
nextrad lake charles does not show distinguishing arm bands or separation.
which is good… well definded arm bands and separation generally define a well tuned powerful storm. we’ve not seen that
we expect power loss..and missiles as most debris from laura remains..
we stand by as always to help others as soon as possible.
Laura was dry.
this one is going to be a torrent
note: we do have a temp mobile nextrad..thanks Oklahoma…it functions… and is still operating

goes east.imagery with lat long overlay.
shows stall (from cold gulf basin water mass plus trough system) and the job to north and east over last several hours. delighted!

And Our Great President Donald J. Trump !!!
Praying for those people to stay safe. An interesting research document released by the CDC on COV-19. If you don’t want to read the whole thing. Skip to page 39, under the Performance Characteristic- “Since no quantified virus isolates of the 2019-nCoV are currently available, assays designed for detection of the 2019-nCoV RNA were tested with characterized stocks of in vitro transcribed full length RNA (N gene; GenBank accession: MN908947.2) of known titer (RNA copies/µL) spiked into a diluent consisting of a suspension of human A549 cells and viral transport medium (VTM) to mimic clinical specimen”. NO QUANTIFIED VIRUS ISOLATED, Hmmm?

Crap … it’s hitting same spot that got slammed by Hurricane Laura about six weeks ago … double crap. (That’s the helplessness speaking)

Bill was ready for the last major hurricane to threaten their beachfront vacation home, but Hillary was not.
When the wind reached a screaming pitch, palm trees thrashing and snapping, horizontal stinging rain, flying roofing, sheet metal and signs as well as the unnerving sound-levels, Hillary was rooted to the spot.
Hillary stared and stared through the glass of the window. Immovable, with her nose pressed to the windowpane, the stark fear in her eyes will stay with Bill forever.
Fortunately, as the eye of the storm arrived and the winds temporarily lessened, Bill felt personally secure enough to open the door and let Hillary in.
that is hilarious. I’m stealin uy
I copied it off the internet and reworded it. There was no credit to an author.
Boogywstew made me LOL after a very long day!
I could take in a family of 3 for a month or two. Anybody know how to do it safely? I’m in Fl..
Big risk for me ( they say once you invite people in to your home, it’s hard to get them to leave) but I would like to help those in real need.
Mark you could have a bigger effect helping Samaritan’s Purse instead. IMHO
I donated to Cajun Navy last night. You can donate money or they have a list of items on Amazon they need.
I didn’t have a lot of time to checkin withcha after arriving in Houston this am, It took us 13 hours for this little jaunt we made from Sulphur yesterday. Ugh…nothing beats the experience of moving 1 mph surrounded on all sides w/diesel trucks sitting I n the little outback. ?
Thanks for the reply dogs Ma. I don’t have a lot of money to give to Samaritan’s Purse. But I do have a ways and means to keep people fed and clothed and housed for short. Of time. Also in the county I live in there are Help Wanted signs up and down Commerce Avenue here in Vero Beach Florida. Most of those are construction work pool building cabinet Granite work people need to hire people down here. So I could probably give a family of three a brand new start or at least a ways to make a living and house them and close them and feed them until they can get back to their own homes or farms in Louisiana.
Please pardon the spelling of some of the words I think you’ll get the gist of what I’m talking about but my talk-to-text really sucks
The best thing about SP is you can run down and volunteer in your local community, they value your time more so than cash 😛
I’ll check it out thanks dogs Ma
I feel for you maw….watched the news from work last night….what a mess…once again Port Arthur ‘got lucky’….prayers for acceptance, serenity and safety for those who had to bug out and those who chose not to.
Of course it’s windy here, sustained about 30-35 mph gusts at maybe 45 mph or so….not a lot of rain yet….leaving for work in one hour….about six miles…..
My husband is in Beaumont. His job is over there – ships. He’s stuck there until the storm passes. Please pray for him.

IMO LA has partially dodged a bullet. This hurricane could have been so much more powerful than it has turned out to be. I know it’s hard to think that the people in the Lake Charles area are lucky since this will be the 2nd bad ass storm to hit them in 6 weeks, but they really are catching a break!
Had DELTA shot the Yucatan channel and missed the land, it would have also missed more of the cooler water of the shallows that resulted from the passage of GAMMA. In that case DELTA could have been a strong CAT IV when it entered the Gulf and much stronger than what is coming ashore now. They could have been looking at 130 or 140 mph sustained winds instead of 90 mph and 50′ waves on top of a higher storm surge instead of 35′ waves.
Be safe dogsmaw, you are in my prayers.
And of course Rah and all those who are affected. My prayers are with you, Love ya,all

I am not affected. I am just a kind of weather nut and find hurricanes fascinating. I have tracked them for years and like to compare the hurricane hunters data with surface station data. In such post event analysis it turns out the majority of time what the NHC is putting out is inflated by 15 to 20% compared to what the actual surface data shows. Surface damage also bears that out. They are overhyping storms and have been for a long time, But you’ll never hear me minimizing one before it strikes unless I have good data to justify it. Too much at stake.
When home I also get a kick out of the weather channel types standing out in the wind and wet, telling everyone how windy and wet it is and their attempts to sometimes mislead their viewers into thinking that a storm is stronger and more damaging than it actually is.
Vermilion parish, it has definitely been a five hour ride. I am glad it is over.
Back to the generator.
Hope EVERYONE is safe. Broken things are not as important as everyone’s safety.
How you doing bam? Our granddaughter and her parents are on generator as well. Stay Safe
