Hurricane Delta is moving into the southwestern Gulf of Mexico this afternoon. The current forecast from the NHC puts Delta toward the East-Texas and Louisiana coastline this weekend; however, these forecasts are early and everyone on the coastal gulf should keep an eye on this storm and watch for updates.
(NHC) […] At 100 PM CDT (1800 UTC), the center of Hurricane Delta was located near latitude 21.8 North, longitude 88.8 West. Delta is moving toward the northwest near 17 mph (28 km/h). A northwestward motion with a reduction in forward speed is expected over the next 24 hours. A north-northwestward motion is expected by late Thursday, and a faster northward to north-northeastward motion is forecast on Friday and Friday night.
On the forecast track, the center of Delta will move over the southern Gulf of Mexico this afternoon, be over the southern or central Gulf of Mexico through Thursday, and approach the northern Gulf coast within the hurricane watch area on Friday.
Maximum sustained winds are near 100 mph (155 km/h) with higher gusts. Re-strengthening is forecast when the hurricane moves over the southern and central Gulf of Mexico through Thursday, and Delta is expected to become a major hurricane again. Some weakening is is forecast as Delta approaches the northern Gulf coast on Friday.
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles (205 km). (More)
This storm is once again moving toward the central operational base of major oil refineries and gasoline production interests for the entire southern U.S. It is prudent to fill your vehicle with gasoline even if you do not live in/around the potential landfall area. There is a possibility of significant supply-chain disruption for fuel.
Anyone living in East-Texas and Louisiana should pay close attention to the path of the storm. There may be significant variation on the models over the next 24 hours. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Everything is replaceable, except you and your family.

Again, if anyone finds themselves in need of assistance please reach out in the comment section and/or send us an email and we will work earnestly to assist. In the interim we can pray for wind-sheer to blunt the strength of the storm and weaken it before landfall.
Praying for those in the path of this storm
Also praying for Dan Bongino.

Hurricanes, the only downside to living in Eastern Texas. Otherwise, we can deal with the snakes, gators, and spiders.
You forgot fire ants.
Darned right, don’t forget the fire ants.
WuFlu took away the 38th annual Fireant Festival in Marshall this year. Don’t worry though, there will be plenty of fire ants to fete next year.
Thanks for the tip.
Gas tanks in both vehicles are topped off.
Groceries and supplies good to go for a few weeks at least.
Glad I don’t live on the Gulf coast.
But will offer prayers tonight for those who do.
Sounds like you are safe and prepared, but if you need anything, please do not hesitate to let us know.
Also, we should probably pray for WeeWeed and czarowniczy if this goes through either of their neighborhoods.
Again, please let all of us know if you need anything. Thank you.
All my best,
Simple Citizen
Thanks SC. Do not know where you are in the U.S. but we are in north central MD. We should be safe for the foreseen future.

Levi will probably put up a new up to date video on DELTA sometime between 18:00 and 21:00 Eastern time this evening.
And here is Joe Bastadi’s analysis from this morning.
Thanks rah.
They’re both experts.Unfortunately, they have to rely on the Govt ‘experts’ [NOAA, NHC] for ‘official’ data. Kinda like the C(D)C, paragons of virtue who would never alter data to fit a narrative[fear].
Joe was talking about DELTA before the NHC or any of the major models had anything on it. Using good old fashioned classic meteorology he forecasted it would do pretty much exactly what it is doing. Those that don’t believe me should check out Joe’s last Saturday summary at https://www.weatherbell.com/
Joe B. has been around awhile; enough to have a good 6th sense about those storms.
Heck, he’s almost as old as I am so it’s a given he’s pretty sharp… 😉
Correct, good Rah. He’s been saying this one’s gonna be a bugger forever, nearly. Him – I trust.
Glad to see you here; praying for you and yours.
Please write if you need anything.
Best…
Thanks for the link.
I live on the Gulf Coast. Fairhope AL (across the bay from Mobile, AL). I really appreciate an alternative of Weather predictions outlets. Weather predictions for Sally was lousy.
Clean up started the day after Sally hit but right now we are no where near cleaning up after Sally.
Delta has been warned . . . The digital signs on I-10 (between Mobile & the Eastern Shore) that posts traffic updates, etc is now warning:
“DON”T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT DELTA!”
Cathy M.
Welcome.
During the hurricane season I check out Levi’s site every day during the hurricane season. It may seem a bit tedious to you at first but after watching some of them you will get it. Levi will be posting a video in the late afternoon or evening when ever there is an active storm in the Atlantic basin, which includes the Gulf, Caribbean and and of course the Atlantic ocean in the N. Hemisphere. And sometimes for storms in the pacific if they have a chance of hitting N. America or Hawaii.
I’ve been a fan of Joe Bastardi for well over a decade. It was in fact Joe that turned me on to Levi Cowen’s site. I don’t miss his Saturday summary any time of the year and when weather for the US gets interesting I look for his daily update on Reddit. He used to do his daily update at his company site but no more. Now only the Saturday summary. 9 times out of 10 Joe’s analysis is ahead of and more accurate than that from the NHC. Joe nailed the location of landfall for so called “Super Storm Sandy” a full five days before it occurred. If you have Alexa or something similar listening in on your household you can just ask it to “Play Joe Bastardi’s latest” and you’ll get the verbal though of course not the graphics he uses.
Being a weather nut, when I retire I will become a “premium member” and pay for full access to Joe’s company site but now I am on the road far too much to justify the cost.
Prayers to all those in the path of the hurricane
Agreed!
First Covid-19 hit them hard and then hurricane after hurricane. What did Louisiana do to deserve this?
All the little old ladies who prayed to Our Lady of Prompt Succor have passed away. Not as many who are attending this like they did in my youth. Fam across the Gulf Coast are all jittery right now, watching the forecasts and making plans to bug out.
Saw the damage from Mustang Sally last week. Resilient people live on the coast, just keep calm, clean up and carry on.

Why is it called Delta and not a persons name?
This has been a busy season. Names starting with each of the letters of our alphabet have been used up. When that happens, the Greek alphabet takes up the slack. I think this happened at the end of the 2005 (Katrina/Rita/Wilma) hurricane season too.
Don’t put any stock in the number of named storms. Naming a storm is a subjective judgment. Only the last few years have they started naming storms that they know aren’t going to impact land anywhere. IOW six or seven years ago storms that spun off into the central Atlantic were not named. Thus comparing the number of named storms from year to year is not scientific in any way shape or form.
Sundance, it’s your blog, but I wish you’d let Ad Rem, Wee Weed, Menangerie, Stella…put their byline on these stories. I recognize that you are covering someone who is assigned to this sort of story, but when I have trouble following the analysis and opinion on all of the other stuff you cover, I worry for you.
Thank you for all you do.
??? We DO put our names on what we do. Sundance does ALL his own posts.
Totally understand. The criminal activity he covers is enough. Please cover the weather and sports for him.
Looks like this one will be a direct hit. We got the eastern half of Laura. Current forecast is calling for 64mph gusts in my location, at least it will hit during daylight. I swear, next hurricane season, I’ll have an emergency generator.
.
My prayers for everyone in this storm’s path. Be prepared.
For another project today I was working with data on America’s most costly hurricanes over the past decade. I couldn’t help but notice this:
In his first term so far (and remember the current hurricane season is far from over), President Trump and the American people have had on their plate four Cat 5’s (Dorian, Michael, Maria, Irma), three Cat 4’s (Laura, Florence, Harvey), one Cat 2 (Sally), one Cat 1 (Isaias), and one very costly tropical storm, Imelda.
In terms of costly hurricanes during Obama’s ENTIRE EIGHT YEARS IN OFFICE, he dealt with one Cat 5 (Matthew), zero Cat 4’s, three Cat 3’s (Sandy, Irene, Karl), one Cat 2 (Alex), and two Cat 1’s (Ingrid and Isaac).
Levi’s latest is up. See link above.
