Good riddance, if true.
Now Kim Jong Il, Adolf Hitler, and Saddam Hussein have a fourth for their tee time in hell.
You realize you’re comparing a man that is a bad leader with men that are mass murderers and despots. Even though he can’t lead, Chavez was democratically elected and has never been suspected of mass killing his people. Also, you’re mixing time periods. If you mention Hitler, then Stalin or Mao might be more appropriate. If you’re going current day, then Kadafi would be better than Hitler.
Hell has no time. And I’m not sure he was actually “Democratically” elected…did you see all the photoshopped pictures of the people in the streets celebrating?
Really rigged? I live in Venezuela and have done so for 43yrs. First, after Chavez, the chavezistas will be elected. I am dead set against this regime, but it is not more corrupt nor more incompetent than previous regimes which we in business have suffered here of the decades. The elections were surely no more rigged than those before Chavez. If you are comparing Chavez to other elected, but less than democratic leaders, the equivalent would be Huey Long in Mississippi, Duplessis in Quebec, Nazarbayev in Kazakhstan, or Peron in Argentina. The other comparisons made are meaningless invective, and contribute nothing to our understanding.
“The other comparisons made are meaningless invective, and contribute nothing to our understanding.”
Your comparison to Huey Long is completely WRONG. Huey Long was a Louisiana politician. And NOTHING like Chavez.
Huey Long’s Legacy – A New Louisiana
Huey Long transformed politics in Louisiana from a virtual aristocracy to a true democracy. He broke the wealthy elite’s stranglehold on Louisiana’s government, which had effectively disenfranchised the poor majority for centuries. Armed with education, transportation and the vote, Louisiana’s masses gained unprecedented opportunity to better their lives and would never again be subdued.

Thank you James Smithers; as if making sense was acceptable these days.
The elections under Chavez were rigged.
No doubt about that. “Coincidentally”, all elections of tyrants in the region that have the same company for analyzing and counting votes, end up with a 54%…
Yes, I believe that ‘I am Trademark’ is not too far off when he/she compares Hugo Chavez with Mass Murderers and despots. He’s well covered by his many allies, but he will still be held responsible for the rising amount of deaths occurred on Venezuelan soil this past years. Only on the month of December 500 corpses were registered in one morgue located in one city. So far, 2012 has had 22,000 deaths in Venezuela. So, Mao, Stalin, Hitler, Qaddafi and Hussein have a lot in common.
I thought Stalin was in that spot. Did something happen to Stalin?
Pretty Sure Ted Kennedy got the 4th spot ….. Unless Mary Jo had something to do about it …. : )
Do they need a replacement resident? They can have ours.
+1
There you go. Good comment!
I will pack his golf clubs for him
Even Venezuela doesn’t want him
Don’t cry for me Venezuela
Good.
Are there any reports from any reliable sources?
Right, we ALL know how reliable Matt is.
Can we just let this pass without sounding like the other side who find joy in the passing of one of our own?
Jordan, There is no moral equivalency here. We’re talking about a foreign dictator, murderer of nuns, devout marxist, and brutal torturer of people.
So there are no distinctions or comparisons. Let them rip.
I’m not so sure that any man that offered free heating oil to Americans is evil.
just because some may not agree with his economic policies doesn’t make him evil.
Killing Nuns. Vowing Marxism does…. just because he’s willing to give away oil doe’s not grant him absolution – ask FDR when he see’s him.
I only recently became aware you were a progressive.
I agree with some Republican ideas. I’m a strong proponent of firearms owners rights and self defense. I’m also a protectionist which was hugely a Republican idea until the party switched economic policies. I did vote for Reagan, but also was attending a University studying economics and realized that his policies hurt Americans, and only helped Wall Street. Clinton was pro-NAFTA, so in my opinion he was one of the worst president ever. like I said before, we need another candidate like Ross Perot. I wasn’t a fan of any of the current candidates, but have hate for neither that is of course is if Obama does strip away our Second Amendment rights.

Louie’s confused
not really. I wouldn’t stand behind any of our politicians.
as for Chavez, he’s got a lot of oil, and some want it.
According to their Constitution the oil belongs to the people of Venezuela.
I have friends from Venezuela who hate him and some that like him. I don’t live there, and I don’t really trust the media. I just thought that documentary was interesting, and I thought it was nice of him to offer heating oil to some Americans. I guess I should just stick to the pro-Zimmerman threads and stay out of the political threads before I’m called a Marxist which I am not.
The heating oil was not free: it was a propaganda push to buy some international POPULAR support for him. Based on some comments, it was money well spent. Many countries have shown similar jestures, but socialist ones do it at the expence of their own people.
well, I’ll agree with you on the point that if it was the Venezuelan peoples oil, he had no right to give their oil away to Americans that lived up North. it wasn’t his oil to give away.
You can’t really point to Chavez for being socialist when the USA is headed down the same path. Every indication is that the USA is headed towards Venezuela style government. I think some may be hasty in leveling criticism here like our poop does not stink…
USA is nowhere near that path, people… wake up. This is something different.
He didn’t give that heating oil out of the goodness of his heart, for crying out loud. It was a magnificent opportunity for him to stick it to the gringos in a very public way and he used it for exactly that purpose.
Here ya go Lou: http://ferfal.blogspot.com/2012/12/3-days-of-rioting-and-looting-across.html
Just ask some Venezuelans who have been suffering ever since he went into office and see whether he is evil or not.
The thin difference between Chavez and the run-of-the-mill despot is that between a benign and a malignant cancer – Chavez was just in a limited remission. There was a lot of stuff going on under the radar that gave cause to Chavez-watchers. He supported, to some lengths not disclosed, Latin and South American rebel groups, drug cartels and unsavory Islamic elements in Latin and South America. Hope he enjoys his socialized Cuban medicare.
“..When Joan Crawford died in 1977, Bette Davis had the last word – “You should never say bad things about the dead, you should only say good. Joan Crawford is dead. Good.”
Always did like Bette Davis. Fasten your seatbelts we’re in for a bumpy ride
Don’t be a party pooper, Lol.
No, for me it is the same smile as if i heard that other such bastards had passed on and we have the same here. That is my equivalency, Jordan. HC is, was a murdering bastard who joins Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini and sooner would be a favor to the world. As for the heating oil, spit, we should not be needing any other country’s oil with all that we have here. I would gladly spit on the grave of Chavez and all such ilk. I will shed no tears on his passing and will offer prayers to all those he has murdered as he passes through the gates of hell into further damnation and fire.
This guy has had more deaths than Castro. Another A.B.C. exclusive I suspect. I’ll light a candle just in case ABC gets one story correct in 20 years.
My niece married a nice young man from Venezuela and his family is still there. It is not a pleasant place to be from what I understand and not very easy to leave. I still give him my hand-me-down clothes to take with him whenever he goes to give to the many poor people there. There may not be any reported genocides, but that kind of regime NEVER ends well, so just give it time.
By By!
When I hear for sure, I’ll let y’all know.

Sundance, this is the school of Economics I believe in.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_School_(economics)
“The Government issue of fiat paper money has also been associated with the American School from the 1830s onwards”
IMHO, this would be one of the major downfalls of this theory. It’s not gonna end well as we are finding out. Personally I am not a big fan of protectionist policies and tariffs. Whether we like it or not, we are in a global economy now and I don’t think you can turn that clock back. I can see where there may have been some merit 150 years ago. If you are looking for tariffs and such now, it’s only because our tax policy and unions have done more to destroy the economic engine than anything else. It’s not gonna bring the jobs back.
The flaw in your economic principle is you do not understand the impact of the dollar as the global currency. This is the principle at the root of our non-protectionist policy.
If you remove the dollar as global trade currency. Effective tomorrow a loaf of bread will cost you $300.00
Only good news today aside from the Rum subsidy.
I sorta stopped when I saw that Matt Gutman scooped it. Then again…..
He’s on life-support and will be kept alive until after January 10 (?).
He’s scheduled to arrive on January 11.
He was on the Guest Arrival Bulletin Board dated August 18, 2012, but Lucifer erased his name for some unknown reason. I’m moving to another Circle and may be unplugged for a while. Carry on.
