Doug Ross @ Journal has published a first hand account of a conversation a docent at the Bush Center Library had with former Senator Alan Simpson (R), co-author of the Simpson-Bowles commission report recommending fiscal reform legislation, on the outspoken former Senator’s impressions based on first-hand dealings with Barack Hussein Obama.

“….I spent the next 15 minutes (just the two of us) listening to him expound on his view of our future. His first answer was that with this president we will never make progress. He then related a story that when Bowles and Simpson requested time with the president to urge him to seriously consider their report, he was stunned by the response (as was Bowles).

Outside the DC beltway bubble I guess taxpayers are now “ordinary Americans”.  That would make the non-taxpayer(s), non-ordinary Americans.   Strange world we live in where the majority views have to be quantified, or defined so, as to reach beyond the propaganda…..

(Via Breitbart)  Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) announced Friday that throughout 2013 his three campaign arms raised $4.16 million.

Cruz made the massive haul over 2013 through his re-election committee, Ted Cruz for Senate, his joint fundraising committee, Ted Cruz Victory Committee, and his leadership PAC, the Jobs, Growth & Freedom Fund.

About $1.5 million of this fundraising happened in the fourth quarter of 2013. This began during the government shutdown caused by Democrats’ and President Obama’s refusal to compromise on Obamacare after Cruz’s stand, with Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) at his side, against the unpopular healthcare law. Conventional wisdom inside the beltway was that Americans disapproved of Cruz’s and Lee’s tactics, but these fundraising details are yet another indicator that ordinary Americans craved someone who would stand up against Obamacare on their behalf.   (read more)

The shift in fortunes among the largest and most influential outside political groups could have an enormous impact in the 2014 election cycle, as the warring Republican factions prepare to square off in a series of Senate and House primaries around the country and as Republican leaders seek to rein in activists who they believe have fractured and endangered the party with policies that alienate independent-leaning voters. Last night Sean Hannity interviewed Rand Paul and Ted Cruz together on his 10pm Fox show.   The discussion included points of contrast between conservative principles and establishment Republican positions.

However, the very last question put to both of them was whether or not they will help up and coming conservatives with endorsements or support in the GOP primary races?

On Monday, Mr. Obama acted unilaterally to raise the minimum wage paid by federal contracts, the first of many executive actions the White House promised would be a theme of his State of the Union address Tuesday night.

The president’s taste for unilateral action to circumvent Congress should concern every citizen, regardless of party or ideology. The great 18th-century political philosopher Montesquieu observed: “There can be no liberty where the legislative and executive powers are united in the same person, or body of magistrates.” America’s Founding Fathers took this warning to heart, and we should too.
