WASHINGTON D.C. – The first serious proposals from the White House to solve the looming “fiscal cliff” of tax rises and budget cuts appear to have been rejected out of hand by Republican leaders in Congress.

Treasury secretary Timothy Geithner is reported to have offered a set of proposals that include increasing tax rates on the wealthy, a one-year postponement of scheduled cuts in defence and domestic spending, and $400bn in savings from *Medicare and other entitlement programmes.

The proposals from the White House – the first to use hard numbers – include a $1.6 tn tax increase, a $50bn stimulus package and new presidential powers to raise the federal debt limit without congressional approval. (more…)

WASHINGTON D.C. – Sorry, college students. President Obama has cut your access to Pell Grants by 33%; he just forgot to mention it before Election Day.

During the recent campaign, President Obama claimed credit for increasing funding to the Pell Grant program, which provides college funds, free from repayment, to millions of students. However, an email sent out Tuesday to some Dallas college students is revealing a detail the President forgot to mention: the time a student can receive a Pell Grant has been cut, by as much as three years. With Pell Grants for the fall semester now dispersed, colleges are informing students of their options, bringing the cuts to light. (more…)

Considering President Obama is running $1.1 Trillion annual deficits.   And considering his requested Tax increases on the rich would generate $85 Billion a year in revenue.

So lets remove some zeros:

If you had to spend $11,000 in tolls to get to work each year and your boss was going to pay you $850 reimbursement.   Would you keep the job ?  Or tell him he’s nuts?

(From WaPo via WZ)  – Obama Backs Harry Reid’s Efforts To Change Senate’s Filibuster Rules:   President Obama supports Senate Majority Harry Reid’s efforts to reform the filibuster, a White House spokesman said Wednesday.

“The President has said many times that the American people are demanding action,” White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer told The Huffington Post. “They want to see progress, not partisan delay games. That hasn’t changed, and the President supports Senator Reid’s efforts to reform the filibuster process.” (more…)

Anyone else noticing a trend here……

BOSTON – A painting that features President Obama posed as Jesus Christ crucified on a cross is on display at a community college art gallery in Boston.

The painting by Michael D’Antuono is part of a larger exhibit called “Artists on the Stump – the Road to the White House 2012.” It’s on display at the Bunker Hill Community College Art Gallery until Dec. 15^th.

The painting is called “Truth” – and shows the president on the cross with his arms outstretched. A crown of thorns rests on his head. (more…)

Across Atlanta Public Schools, staff worked feverishly in secret to transform testing failures into successes. Teachers and principals erased and corrected mistakes on students’ answer sheets. Area superintendents silenced whistle-blowers and rewarded subordinates who met academic goals by any means possible. Superintendent Beverly Hall (pictured above far left) and her top aides ignored, buried, destroyed or altered complaints about misconduct, claimed ignorance of wrongdoing and accused naysayers of failing to believe in poor children’s ability to learn.  This went on for more than a decade.  (more)

Now this newest revelation comes to light –  It was a brazen and surprisingly long-lived scheme, authorities said, to help aspiring public school teachers cheat on the tests they must pass to prove they are qualified to lead their classrooms.

For 15 years, teachers in three Southern states paid Clarence Mumford Sr. (pictured left) — himself a longtime educator — to send someone else to take the tests in their place, authorities said. Each time, Mumford received a fee of between $1,500 and $3,000 to send one of his test ringers with fake identification to the Praxis exam. In return, his customers got a passing grade and began their careers as cheaters, according to federal prosecutors in Memphis.

Authorities say the scheme affected hundreds — if not thousands — of public school students who ended up being taught by unqualified instructors. (more…)
