Vice President JD Vance gives his thoughts and impressions on the midterm election result.
JD VANCE (Via X) – “One of the things the data analysts on our side obsessed over was “composition”—whether the electorate looked close enough to 2024 for Republicans to win. And despite polls that showed a Democrat blowout, the data kept on telling us the same story: in some states turnout was merely OK, in other states it was downright amazing, and in no state was it catastrophic. There was a genuine sense of optimism on our team: our people were showing up.
So, I asked the smartest data guy I know, does that mean we’re going to shock the world? “No,” he told me. “We might do better than the polls suggest. But the data is telling us that a lot of Trump/Vance 2024 voters are pissed and planning to vote for the other guys. Our voters are turning out, but they may not vote for us.”
Well, that looks prophetic now. Our voters did show up. In Florida, for example, the electorate was 9 points more Republican than Democrat, just a couple points worse than 2024. Undoubtedly there were places we could have done better on turnout. But the main problem is not turnout. The main problem is that many people who voted for Trump/Vance in 2024 voted for Democrats in 2026.
There will be a lot of infighting and arguing over what happened and why that is. One of the pollsters I really respect told me that our economic messaging wasn’t sharp enough down the stretch. I’m sure that’s true.
But the real reason we lost is obvious to almost everyone.
Another pollster—one of the smartest people I know in politics, told me yesterday we’d lose the generic ballot by 13 points. I felt negative going into Tuesday, but even I was shocked by this. In his polling, he saw that a lot of Trump 2024 voters were angry and planning to vote for Democrats. He asked those voters who had abandoned us what would cause them to come back on our team.
The top four answers, accounting for nearly all of the responses were:
1) End the war
2) Focus on cost of living/inflation
3) Put America First
4) Change our relationship to Israel
Our voters showed up. And the above four reasons are why many of them voted for Democrats. This is according to a pollster who nailed the results. While many spent Monday attacking Rachel Campos Duffy for calling for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, it turns out her political advice was sound. (She’s also a great person.)
In the next few months, there’s going to be a lot of gaslighting. Expect to hear any number of establishment politicians say the solution to our woes is amnesty. I’m open to the idea that we should change enforcement—by focusing more on businesses that hire illegal labor, for instance. But anyone pushing amnesty is lying to you.
The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night.
If you’d like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that’s at least honest.
But everyone knows why we lost. And any honest conversation about where we go from here must start there.
I remain hopeful about our country. To the people who are pissed off and want to say, “I told you so”: you’re right, you did tell us so. Take that energy into electing Republicans who share your worldview. To the people who are just pissed at the results, you should be. Let’s take that anger and get back to the work of saving our country.” (link)

“The reason we lost is the war.” ?? On April 7, 2026, President Trump was winning the war, within two weeks of victory. Something happened. Then the Vance, Rubio, Bessent Triumvirate took over on April 8. They never intended to win the war, and the costs have reflected this.
Vance needs to resign now, prior to the Dems taking over the Senate. He is clearly at odds with President Trump. These statements indicate he is a carefully couched rival. The other two need to go as well.
Agree on Vance.
IMO vance is spot on – and i also agree he should resign.
Why should Vance resign?
The only way to “win” the war with Iran is a full out ground invasion to topple the government.
I know of no American that would want that.
The problem is that this war, as we argued many months ago, is for one country and one country alone. And, it ain’t the USA!
Nobody wants to say the simple truth. Many of our fellow peeps are just plain stupid.
The DSA is successful. And that’s the fact.
DSA Wins
I’m more interested in what Rubio has to say.
Yes to that! I do not think Rubio will throw his boss under the bus like JD did.
We might be in a sorry state if JD, with all the questionable attachments he has, actually decides to run in 2028. For the sake of our country, I hope he chooses to focus on his family and not run.
Vance was honest didn’t throw him under bus. I want to know what went wrong.
Venezuela didn’t work, Arab nations back out, Israel break promises. Something didn’t go right.
A kindergarten could figure out gas high you lose.
Then there is the view from way above, “Men forgot God.”
How many “conservatives ” are ok with so many values that contradict God’s moral principles? Our Supreme Court banned the morality of the Ten Commandments, and then systematically approved of one deviancy after another.
We live in a post Christian society that is under the wrath of God and needs much more than a political or economic reset.
Yup.
We are reaping what we have permitted to be sown, and this is just the beginning of the harvest.
I can tell everyone exactly why the republicans lost. When asked about the high price of gas, President Trump multiple times said he didn’t care. I understand what he was saying that Iran was not going to be allowed to have a nuclear weapon. There are a lot of people living check to check and the sheer cost of everything is killing us. If he had explained the situation better, spent more time working on domestic issues a little more than foreign issues, I believe things would have turned out better.
Except the ‘sheer cost of everything’ was actually more expensive during Biden’s term.
And, your point is…..?
The person in charge TODAY is the one that is either moving the ball to lower those prices, or moving the ball to increase those prices.
If the person is moving the ball to higher prices, then they are going in the wrong direction.
The people of the United States have been saying that for months, and yesterday, pointed that out in a very direct manner.
The top four answers, accounting for nearly all of the responses were:
1) End the war
2) Focus on cost of living/inflation
3) Put America First
4) Change our relationship to Israel
This evaluation exactly mirrors what I was seeing in the MAGA voter base ahead of the 2026 mid-terms.
Donald Trump sacrificed the domestic MAGA agenda in order to pursue yet another useless Middle East conflict, the Iran War.
And by doing so, he put Israel’s agenda ahead of the MAGA voter’s America First agenda.
Yes, there are other reasons why the slaughter of the Republicans happened in 2026 beyond the usual mid-term advantages the out party always has.
Prominent among those other reasons are John Thune and the RINOs in the Senate giving the middle finger to the voters who elected them.
Other reasons for the mid-term debacle include the failure of the Trump administration to diligently pursue mass deportations of illegals; the failure of the DOJ and the FBI to diligently fight election fraud from the earliest days of the Trump 47 presidency; and Trump’s continuing support for the H1B visa program at the expense of American workers.
The tragedy of the whole thing is that Trump’s economic agenda is slowly but surely doing the job that is intended for it. But its progress was not advertised in a way which would explain to the independents why it was needed and how well it was actually working in practice.
Apparently a glowing middle east would mean lower fuel and.food prices.
Who knew. Vance is clever, he managed to imply that the war was an Israeli manipulation. That Israel brought to its knees was a nessacery price to pay for world peace. He did it without connecting the words so he can claim a political highroad.
A political opportunist with no street cred just a finger in the room tell you everything is fine no voter fraud no preplanned riots no foreign influence. He will wash his hands of this unpleasantness and wait for the crowd to decide his next direction.
Satan’s spawn PE/nce VA/nce. Same same.
I do expect him to do damage control, resign bought and paid for to take the smarter then me part of the coalition with him.
JUDAS, no room in my fox hole
Anyone telling you why this happened is selling you something
JD makes a nice little bow of blame, “the war”. I don’t know what’s true. But I feel like Americans are pawns in a big game of chess that we aren’t privy to. We had 2 years to codify Trump’s agenda. The Senate sat on their hands. That says to me that the Republicans just handed the midterms back to the Democrats for their own selfish purposes. Most of us, at least the folks I know, were willing to tighten their belts over fuel and food prices. Interest rates are a problem, but that’s a separate issue. I’m fairly well disgusted.
They cheated!!!
You realize you’re playing into the hands of the left when you say that, right? We just spent 2 years cleaning up voter rolls, and that’s your claim?
Come on now.
2) Focus on cost of living/inflation
3) Put America First
pretty stupid to change your vote to democrat and think that they will solve this.
And trust me, our relationship with Israel will change now, count on it
Lots of people on our side just stayed home. Still stupid in a general election, although I understand the sentiment.
Absolutely WRONG!
We gave Republicans the Presidency, the House, the Senate and while President Trump did ALL the work, the House and Senate continued their politics as usual.
John Thune an Mike Johnson did absolutely NOTHING to advance President Trumps agenda. The loss is due to Congress not doing what the voters wanted, so why would anyone turn out and vote for a bunch of people who believe they are too good to do what MAGA wanted.
The voters sent a message to Congress – do nothing, get nothing.
It’s not an “either/or”. It’s both.
I’m sorry VP Vance. I’m not buying your lame excuse.
No one would think the Democrats would improve anything, unless of course if you are on welfare, Medicaid and free stuff as an illegal alien.
It was not choosing the Dems, it was rejecting the current Repubs.
Vance should never be trusted. IMO, another Pence.
Reasons? How about Economy? It’s usually in the top three reasons people vote. That’s inflation and prices.
Next up, America First. Which means removing 60 million illegals from our country.
I have never heard anyone say that the relationship to Israel was why they switched party votes. Nor ending the war. Those two points are usually found coming out of the mouths of established Repubs/RINOs. You want something that does enter the conversation? Stop sending Ukraine money and support. Again, sometimes it’s not what they say, but what they don’t say. Beware Vance.
Amnesty?!!
How about Vance go soak his head in a bucket of pee pee.
The election results were assisted by the hard left media both networks and social. Then you add in the market manipulation. Oil prices driven over $100 when early voting began and to dropping like a rock to $88. The market on steroids today. Jubilant about the results.
market manipulation used by wall street and globalists to hurt Trump’s agenda. This administration knew it but did not try to bury the globalists for doing so. They kept oil, gas, and food prices high on purpose and it worked well because our Middle Class gave Trump a whooping and this country are screwed.
If anyone here was shocked by these election results, you need to touch grass, talk to more folks, read an article from a new source once in a while. Because we are in a transformative time, and the path forward for patriots will be full of grifters and phonies. Who can carry the ideals of freedom forward? 2028 will be here very soon. I’ll be leaning on CTH every step of the way.
I’m going to disagree with JD Vance. First, there is no indication that ‘our voters’ actually showed up. I submit that many just stayed home. JD’s reasoning:
1) End the war
2) Focus on cost of living/inflation
3) Put America First
4) Change our relationship to Israel
End the war, meaning allowing Iran to have a nuke. Interesting. Focus on cost of living/inflation, rather than explaining the longer term positives of American manufacturing and better jobs. Put America First, which by putting America First on the global stage, is exactly what American First means. Change our relationship with Israel…I’m not sure we will ever properly deal with the issue of Jews, but perhaps wonder what our relationship with Israel would be like ,if it was located in South America or Africa….perhaps location is the crux of our interest in Israel.
Perhaps we might focus on the messages low information voters were getting. Perhaps we might focus on Congress’s inability to back Trump as it should have, pass the Save Act, etc. Perhaps it might have been an idea that, in the long term, President Trump’s war with ‘globalism’ was more important than the price of eggs. Just my opinion.
The very moment VP Vance boarded AF1 with his children in Hindu garb, I stopped giving a shit about what he had to say.
That level of disrespect to American voters was such a slap in the face, I’ll never forgive nor forget it.
Very few people felt an improvement in their lives these past 2 years regardless of how much investment has come to the country.
Add that to the fairly regular congressional midterm flip to the opposing wing of the same bird and it was pretty obvious this was how it would go.
Now the struggling folks will pay close attention to the next tranche of available fraud to enrich themselves and the Left will let them.
Conservatives don’t have the stones to have a national strike, they can’t even snatch a corrupt local politician out of a chair.
Enjoy the rise of the antichrist (Islam) and be ready to die for your beliefs. It’s coming and conservative America lacks backbone.
Two weeks for the war in Iran. Sound familiar? Two weeks to slow the spread. Came back to bite him both times. Now the country becomes a third world you know what. He didn’t lower prices on gas or food. Didn’t hold anyone accountable like he promised. In fact he said not to go after the presidents. He didn’t take on Thune. I voted strait red but man I’m mad at the administration
I agree with what JD said in part, but what about the mail in ballots? There is so much fraud related to this bs. Nobody can trust the results! I’m so sick about this election! It’s depressing. The RATS 🐀 will overplay their hand!! You can bet the bank on that one!! 🤦🏻♀️
I was inundated with messages from the GOP demanding $$. They didn’t want to know what I thought about the issues, they only wanted my $$. When I responded to their requests for $$ with questions, those questions were never answered, not once. When I didn’t give $$ the messages became more threatening. My questions were never once answered. So, clearly no one was bothering to read responses only gather $$. I believe that is why we lost. Now I fear for the future of our Republic and my children’s future under the fist of communism.
If the elected leaders DO NOT stop the illegal border entry that’s been ongoing badly since the Clinton’s and haven’t stopped i.e. 30+years; and the voter fraud that is rampant, i.e. voting machine, harvest ballots, then the country is lost already. When islamists’ whom aren’t citizens, steal votes and hold congressional seats illegally, and are NOT KICKED OUT, then the country is f’ing lost people. Look at muslim city in Dallas, it’s too late they are here to destroy the US. Look at Dearborn, MI muslims are there to destroy the country. Too many votes have been stolen and allowed to be stolen already. Can’t get the rot out of the supreme court, judges, and senators, add fake religious leaders as well. Christians better grow a par because its already too late. Like that plane that crashed in florida, times up…
Gas prices was reason full stop. I don’t know what the plan was but it didn’t go right.
So close to making it work. Industry was starting to move back. Cliffs steel was opening restarting production. And other steel mills. Just one example.
They stopped Ron Paul, tea party, and now MAGA and maha. We will be back and will be bigger than MAGA. Each time we get a shot we get better.
We should have pushed at least 3 more reconciliation bills through Congress and fixed things on the books. The ones who said we can’t because of filibuster betrayed us.
Best thing we got rid of a lot of people who stopped the agenda of MAGA.
Back into hiding until we rise again.
I’m not sure what Vance is talking about that GOP voters turned-out, but they voted D instead of R. I’ve only looked at a few states, but it sure looks to me like a huge number of R’s stayed out entirely. The D numbers don’t look that much different from prior election years. Just a snapshot though in a few states. Maybe the big picture supports Vance?
Tight races were likely lost due to fraud. Blowouts were lost due to people on a sit-down strike.
We are currently living in a Never Enough culture.
Depending on who’s reporting, between 1 and 3 million illegal immigrants have been deported since President Trump took office this second time and the border closed securely.
So how many deportations would have been enough?
5 million? 10 million? Do you see where this is going – everyone will have a different answer and meanwhile the difference in the number of illegal immigrants between this and what would have happened under a Harris regime is staggering.
And it seems like only a few people understand what Trump is doing on the world stage to bring back the American system of economics and to reindustrialize our country. Trump didn’t go for a quick fix, he’s going for a real fix and it appears that the subset of Americans that understand this is tiny.
Trump is the only president with the courage to end TPS for several countries. No other republican president would have dared to end TPS like Trump did.
Trump was between a rock and hard place with Iran. Before festivities kicked off, the Iranians apparently bragged they could take out European capitals and Israel with drone-based or missile-based nukes or dirty bombs.
I wonder how the economy would be doing if Trump had let that occur?
The war, IMO, was a just war but you never go to war with a losing strategy and that is what President Trumps VP and others around him gave him. Negotiate with the moderates, but there are no moderates. They lied and stalled perfectly and for some reason President Trump listened to them instead of listening the the warriors and the people who understand the Iranian mullahs and IRGC. We needed to continue and continue hard, remove the regime, destroy all of the nuclear sites and arm and train the locals and we needed to do it quickly, which could have been done.
Also, the messaging out of the white house for these 2 years was ridiculous. The American people didn’t really grasp the idea of extricating ourselves from the City of London. Who the these people are and how they’ve played a part in the downfall of America all of these years. What 1776 American Revolution was all about. I said this before, the White House needed nightly or weekly round table discussions made for TV and social media and some of them should have included townhalls with young people to join in these discussions and educating the Americans on why America needs to do this, what the Tariffs are all about and lay it out very clearly and easily for a “bird brain” to understand and hammer it every night/weekly for 2 years.
Show Americans exactly what is happening in Europe with the Red/Green alliance terrorists, the rape gangs, the Islam/nazis agenda and how women/children are being raped, killed by these roving gangs of Islamists and school the American people on Sharia and what that means.
No time to be shy about all of this and of course, people needed to be held accountable for the 2020 election fraud and other dangerous lawfare took place.
Also, this administration needed to put a forceful pin in the “blame the Jews and Israel for everything”. The groypers/Tucker, Alex Jones et al needed to be put in their place from the beginning of this. They played a big part in young republican men not showing up to vote.
Thune should have been ejected, but the Republicans in both houses are really not there to serve WE THE PEOPLE and that is a problem.
Now we are in a very bad place and when Trump said that he would except the outcome of these elections, what does that mean. There was a lot of fraud taking place as well. I’m thoroughly disgusted by our own republican/conservative citizenry who either did not vote or voted for the other side because they are pissed. I’m pissed to, but all critical thinking went by the wayside on our side. Embarrassing to say the least.
War.
On the eve of the election, Trump talks about his building projects! What! You mean most of them hung up by LawFare.
Took two tries to get the pool finished. Geez.
The wars are serious, but not the biggest issue. Trump was elected to :
1 – Drain the swamp and 2 – Boot out the illegals
And he simply hasn’t delivered on either promise.
At least a hundred Epstein pervs should already be behind bars – for life.
At least a thousand criminal swamp critters should be in Gitmo – and stripped of all stolen wealth.
At least ten million illegals should be GONE. Including all Haitians, Somalis, and jihadis.
Eisenhower had Operation Wetback … Trump could have had one 10 x bigger.
Trump should cut the heads off the Iranian hydra, and withdraw all support for Ukraine.
Why aren’t these things done already?
He’s done a lousy job explaining these major failures.
No wonder everybody’s angry.
Very very good thoughts and advice dear patriot.
