Vice President JD Vance gives his thoughts and impressions on the midterm election result.
JD VANCE (Via X) – “One of the things the data analysts on our side obsessed over was “composition”—whether the electorate looked close enough to 2024 for Republicans to win. And despite polls that showed a Democrat blowout, the data kept on telling us the same story: in some states turnout was merely OK, in other states it was downright amazing, and in no state was it catastrophic. There was a genuine sense of optimism on our team: our people were showing up.
So, I asked the smartest data guy I know, does that mean we’re going to shock the world? “No,” he told me. “We might do better than the polls suggest. But the data is telling us that a lot of Trump/Vance 2024 voters are pissed and planning to vote for the other guys. Our voters are turning out, but they may not vote for us.”
Well, that looks prophetic now. Our voters did show up. In Florida, for example, the electorate was 9 points more Republican than Democrat, just a couple points worse than 2024. Undoubtedly there were places we could have done better on turnout. But the main problem is not turnout. The main problem is that many people who voted for Trump/Vance in 2024 voted for Democrats in 2026.
There will be a lot of infighting and arguing over what happened and why that is. One of the pollsters I really respect told me that our economic messaging wasn’t sharp enough down the stretch. I’m sure that’s true.
But the real reason we lost is obvious to almost everyone.
Another pollster—one of the smartest people I know in politics, told me yesterday we’d lose the generic ballot by 13 points. I felt negative going into Tuesday, but even I was shocked by this. In his polling, he saw that a lot of Trump 2024 voters were angry and planning to vote for Democrats. He asked those voters who had abandoned us what would cause them to come back on our team.
The top four answers, accounting for nearly all of the responses were:
1) End the war
2) Focus on cost of living/inflation
3) Put America First
4) Change our relationship to Israel
Our voters showed up. And the above four reasons are why many of them voted for Democrats. This is according to a pollster who nailed the results. While many spent Monday attacking Rachel Campos Duffy for calling for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, it turns out her political advice was sound. (She’s also a great person.)
In the next few months, there’s going to be a lot of gaslighting. Expect to hear any number of establishment politicians say the solution to our woes is amnesty. I’m open to the idea that we should change enforcement—by focusing more on businesses that hire illegal labor, for instance. But anyone pushing amnesty is lying to you.
The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night.
If you’d like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that’s at least honest.
But everyone knows why we lost. And any honest conversation about where we go from here must start there.
I remain hopeful about our country. To the people who are pissed off and want to say, “I told you so”: you’re right, you did tell us so. Take that energy into electing Republicans who share your worldview. To the people who are just pissed at the results, you should be. Let’s take that anger and get back to the work of saving our country.” (link)

Call BS on that. The GOP lost because rino Thune wouldn’t pass the SAVE Act and let the Dims steal everything in sight
Three of my sisters and a cousin all praised amy death Acton’s elections.
They all dead to me.
The post demographics from the election confirm your family voting. Women across ALL age groups, except over 65, voted overwhelmingly for Acton, Brown and just about any progressive Democrat… They love the lefty messaging…
Women (as a group – not all) get pissed at me when I say women should not vote but the available data indicates I am correct.
Yep a dead dog received a ballot I read.
Particularly in Texas.
I would say the “Absolutely Do Nothing Senate” was the broader cause, not JUST the Save Act.
Younger people were counting on Clarity Act passing for cryptos. Faled so many times.
Thune was bad, Corryn and others were far worse.
wow. pretty succinct and honest.
Voters are STOOOPID!
Voting for Demoncrats will make it better?
Cut your nose off to spite your face.
Smh
Oops, saw your message after clicking POST. Sorry! BD
Can’t be said often enough!
Many Americans aren’t as politically astute as we are here. We look at all political issues and examine how they will affect us in the present and in the future.
Many just look at their current situation and vote according to that. They see high gas prices so naturally they’ll blame the man in charge and vote to “stick” it to Trump in this instance, but not realizing that by voting for radical Dems in places like Texas they’re actually sticking it to themselves!
He’s not wrong. However, I also don’t believe the results. There are shenanigans afoot. Nobody is going to investigate. Nobody is going to do anything about it. The color revolution has begun. In two years, it will be complete. The results were too overwhelming for me to think otherwise. Talarico won in Texas? Come on, man. That wasn’t about what JD is talking about. Talarico never said anything about improving any of those things. Same with Abdul. Sorry, but I don’t believe the results. I’ll accept them because I don’t have a choice. Nobody is going to rise to the occasion to give me that choice.
The demonic democrats won just about every election in the state of Texas. I thought Texas was conservative? Must be all those who fled commiefornia for Texas and brought their ideology with them.
I believe Victor Davis Hanson provided some cogent points for consideration during his election night interview with the Daily Signal
I found this segment especially telling as it is aggravating if true.
And Abdul the midget muslim mocked JD in his victory speech.
and now Dallas can look forward to having not only LBJ freeway and George Bush freeway and Sam Rayburn Freeway , but also Six Sex Talarico Freeway. Come on, man…… give me liberty or give me death but, please, not another freeway. Of our 254 counties over 80 % voted red by quite large margins. Our big city ‘educated Karens’ and ‘guests’ will be harder to convince than our bygone Yellow Dog Dems.
that voting pattern is happening more and more. would an electoral college with every county having one vote based on their vote solve that?
How can he be wrong, he has many reasons and all depend on where you may live. Political double speak by JD. IMO he is a disappointment.
I have a hunch that AI was used extensively in all 50 states to cheat, and another hunch that they didn’t do Florida — which, using the AI tools from my first hunch, they could have flipped just as easily as they did every single Texas county — because they’ll need to flee to a state that isn’t destroyed, eventually.
Vance is all-in on more AI, too. He underestimates how powerful a tool it is at breaking anything thought to be secure. Not just Vizio TVs, PlayStations, bank accounts, secure drives, software, and networks — but elections, whole countries, and even, dare I say it, the beliefs of populations.
And this tool is being used most effectively and extensively by the heavily Democrat tech crowd, the likes of which fully populate Ars Technica and Reddit comments sections, and most of whom openly yearn to surpass Mao and Stalin in terms of body count.
Nobody in real life is even talking about the war. That’s just on tv and online. This isn’t like previous wars with our soldiers flying home in coffins every week and the grinding of American deaths and combat. People are down on gas prices sure but I don’t hear anyone in real life talking about Iran.
Yes, what war? Diesel in my town dropped 15 cents overnight…..sure nice to find supply so quickly to lower prices…/sarc…..

That is all I hear from the millennials. That is the group he lost so many votes with.
The over 50 crowd went for the Rs.
But I don’t think we can ever know for sure how the votes were counted.
I am just disgusted this morning. (Native Texan)
Oh, I meet with new people every day. They’re talking about Iran for sure, and how empty their pocket book is becoming
…are the “new people” taking about Iranian pistachios?
I’m pretty sure President Trump knew Iran was going to cause problems with oil at the Strait during the election season anyway, so that’s why he went in when he did – remember they had just massacred 50,000 innocent people.
Anything better than ad hominem?
God is still in charge.
Hard to overcome the Obiden years of graft in 2 years.
Hang tough President Trump/staff we love you and you love America and us.
This feels much more dire than Vance is suggesting. Honestly, I do not understand republicans who can’t get past the Iran conflict and are hung up on Israel. I also don’t see how voting for Democrats does anything other than give oxygen to evil.
I do not know of anyone who voted for Trump and then turned around and voted for the Democrats. I agree this is total BS!
Talarico won by double digit percentages and had margin of over a million votes. A true left-wing nut case wins that big in Texas??? Yeah, count me as suspicious of this result.
I do not understand any folks who want to let Iran and the British control the world.
You’ll never get me on that team.
Stupid is, as stupid does.
I also would never support Vance and wasn’t planning on it anyway. This already shows he’s ready to open up the borders and return to being a vassal of the EU.
He’s a tech bro – pro population replacement, pet.
Iran said they would out sit President Trump and by golly they did.
It ain’t over til it’s over.
He’s right. Young men either stayed home or switched sides because of the war and perceptions that Israel dragged us into it.
I agree. Young people think Trump became too global-minded vs America first. And it’s not just Iran; it’s Venezuela, Cuba, Greenland, Russia/Ukraine..
Trump wanted to build a physical fortress around the USA to protect the American people. I just don’t understand how young people can’t see the bigger picture. Trump didn’t want China, Russia, and the EU hovering around Greenland and he didn’t want Cuba and Venezuela to continue selling oil to America’s enemies and rivals.
Well hide your children again, more Drag Queen and Tranny parties are coming to your local schools. 😵💫
Homeschool your children and grandchildren: Their lives and Civilization depend upon it.
Amen! My son and DIL are homeschooling their two daughters. Yes, it’s a sacrifice for them but it will pay dividends later for a lifetime.
Gonna be an interesting next 2 years. Cutting off ones nose, to spite ones face will leave quite an ugly mess afterwards, and it ain’t gonna be pretty! Buckle up Treepers!
Sounds traitorous, but I hope the Democrat Communist Party pulls out all the stops quickly.
A huge Buyer’s Remorse backlash in 2028 could usher in a Bukele or Milei.
(Also, Vance’s reference to Rachel Campos Duffy’s opinion is just weird. His whole statement reeks of Rove and the RINOs)
A lot can happen in two years.
Vance’s presidential hopes are toast.
He should resign now and switch parties if he wants a chance in politics.
He will not win with Rs.
That may well be his choice – which makes him free to speak his mind rather than curry future votes.
Agree. Now I better understand my good friend’s dislike of Vance.
Texas is Blue! That’s the ballgame. The new California.
Give the Bushes credit where credit is due. They certainly helped and will no doubt profit from it. Maybe W and Rove will get their own morning show.
Don’t forget Jeb the one Paxton BEAT.
The map of Teas I saw earlier showed Austin and Houston, maybe some of the valley blue.
All the rest is RED.
We are supposed to believe Talarico got more votes than Kamala did. There is f*ckery going on and no one is going to bother finding it.
And Vance is ignoring that fact.
Talifreako had millions more votes than Kamala got in 2024.🤔😏
Well elections remind me kind of like football but not to take this election lightly. You root for your team for a win and when we lose the opposing team fans are very obnoxious. Not always but always with this opposing team always.
its like the populace voted to release barabas and kill Jesus. and 2020 2.0
Time for President Trump to declare a third term on the basis of the 2020 steal, I think…
Thiel protege…. another wolf in sheep’s clothing. Go away eyeliner hillbilly
I’m sorry VP Vance I’m not buying that lame reasoning.
Who could vote for Trump / Vance , be disillusioned with them and think Democrats will fix any of their problems?
“But the data is telling us that a lot of Trump/Vance 2024 voters are pissed and planning to vote for the other guys. Our voters are turning out, but they may not vote for us.”
Temper Tantrum writ large. “When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put aside childish things.” (1 Cor. 13:11).
So our voters voted for the side that wants to destroy us because they can’t reason like an adult.
Yes, very short sighted and ignorant.
no more so that some of the other pundits that are giving the “reasons”, like John Solomon
The top four answers, accounting for nearly all of the responses were:
1) End the war
2) Focus on cost of living/inflation
3) Put America First
4) Change our relationship to Israel
From where I sit at this moment, no one I can recall in the near past, let alone prior to this year, stated any of those 4 issues/things/whathaveyous.
All respect to JD Vance, to me he is a politician first, and a politician is going to position himself for tomorrow.
What does matter is where the rest of us are today.
That is all I have.
Backstabber.
Thune too. Watch Cruz peel away. 2028 sweepstakes are on now. They’ll all throw Trump under the bus too.
Yep, the rats are going to desert the ship. I look for a few cabinet resignations. I bet RFK jr doesn’t stick around.
You heard it here first.
The demoncrats will stage another covid lockdown and we will never vote again.
Instant Ukraine….
I sure hope I am proved wrong.
It will be even worse than that. See my list of predictions at the bottom of the Presidential thread comments.
The wonderful Salena Zito has some good thoughts as usual. These were particularly insightful:
The biggest lesson history offers is the one the winners keep forgetting. A party that wins the House usually believes voters fell in love with its ideas. More often, voters were just angry enough at the other party to hand over the keys….
Yet each new majority behaves as though it has been embraced. It grows the government it promised to restrain, spends money it promised to save, or pushes the agenda its base wants over the one swing voters were promised, confident the country is behind it. It isn’t. Those voters were never committed, and they take the keys back as quickly as they handed them over. That is why the next wave tends to come so soon.
That brings us back to what our restlessness says about us. Gilded Age voters were living through a transformation they didn’t fully understand, and they kept firing whoever was in charge because no one had yet shown them that the new economy had a place for them. We are living through another transformation. The future is again being built in Western Pennsylvania, on old mill sites and above old gas fields. Many voters still aren’t sure it’s being built for them.
In three weeks the House will tell us what we think, as it always has. Whoever wins should remember that the voters handed them the keys. They didn’t hand them their hearts
https://salenazito.substack.com/p/the-house-is-restless-again-it-has
It amazes me just how stupid people really are.
Well.
I think such folks are wrong but I was alive when the “students” took over Iran and haven’t changed my mind on IRGC since.
Lots of people voiced that they see Iran like “WMD” redux and not our problem.
I’m for ending the war by returning Iran to the 14th century by January. If not then, it won’t happen. The Persians can’t or won’t take over.
I think that says it all. It’s not that we don’t have the votes out there; Trump messed it up with the war, etc. The Republicans still have 2-plus months to do something; let’s see if they do something or anything. President Trump is still the president and in charge of the executive branch, and he still has a lot of power, so….Cheers, everyone; all is not lost!!
It all boils down to, “It’s the economy, stupid.”
Although there are/were certain moves of Trump I didn’t agree with, I TRUST HIM and voted straight R yesterday.
Yet I am quite well aware that real people on the ground who voted for Trump in the past are having real financial hardships and (aside from it being a non=presidential election where not many vote), a lot of those who do vote just gave up and stayed home due to,….
Exorbitantly high prices for food, gas, medical; farmers auctioning off their farm b/c they can’t afford to keep them running; Trump saying going into Iraq that “it would take a week” (which they supported in lieu of how quickly we were in and out of Venezuela), yet here we still are with gas prices sky high; RFK on MAHA that seems to have let big pharma have a seat back at the table with vaccines that were initially taken off the ‘mandatory’ list, that are now back on; Trump’s push for AI data centers; and bad messaging on Trump’s part, i.e. paying everyone $5K of OUR MONEY if R’s sweep the house and senate when a lot of his real voters could have used that financial help, (or so I’m told).
Victor Davis Hanson did a post vote interview with Greg Kinnett on his Daily Signal show. He gave insight on the Texas vote, which can also be applied to many of the other losses… Trump hating RINOs…. Also was not complimentary to Vance for the reasons stated by Sundance many times…
Any chance Thune would perform an act of contrition and put the senate in recess for djt to name recess appointments? Ok if djt gives him a list to edit if need be.
Hope in one hand…
I would say a snowball’s chance in hell.
Thune WOULD RATHER Crap in ” his ” Pants than Go to The OUTHOUSE and Let Recess Appointments Occur.
BS – Real Republicans did not vote for democrats
They have perfected the steal and absolutely nothing is being done about it. 3 weeks of early voting, mass mail in ballots sent out, no ID required in most places, complete stonewall on clearing voter rolls, motor-voter laws, etc. etc. Neither the Republicans nor the Democrats want this cleaned up, its how they stay on the public dole and somehow accumulate generational wealth. Our political class (both sides) are total shit, our elections are a joke, and we are in for “hard times”. Pray, keep your family and loved ones close, prepare and buckle up.
wow, exactly what the couple of rationale voices on this blog have been saying for months. it’s unfortunate those voices received the alinsky treatment. maga has no one to blame but themselves. the brand has become toxic, anyone who doesn’t worship at the alter of djt is isolated, ridiculed, and dismissed. anyone who doesn’t blindly follow and ignore reality is called names.
now here you are, the morning after. instead doing an after action review, you’re pointing blame at everyone and everything when all you need to do is look in the mirror. maga was great until it morphed into trump sycophant syndrome.
let the name calling commence and then remind yourself why this happened. thank you maga for turning over the country to the commies! now that is a lasting legacy, just not one to be proud of.
Time to put the “game plan” together for the next two years and put it in force. If not, 2028 will not look any better than last night.
Not sure if this helps, but be a ray of hope?
Mid-term House losses ranked:
• 2010 Obama (D) −63
• 1946 Truman (D) −56
• 1994 Clinton (D) −54
• 1958 Eisenhower (R) −48
• 1974 Ford (R) −48
• 1966 Johnson (D) −47
• 2018 Trump (R) −41
• 2026 Trump (R) −25 to 40
• 2006 G. W. Bush (R) −30
my ” SHINS ” STILL HURT from Being KICKED Tho …
( and IT IS NOT my Shins )
Wow that is the most strong rebuke of the Trump Administration I have read to date and it is dead on accurate. What he’s awesome missing in here was back when Epstein files became an issue and Donald Trump said he doesn’t need your vote.
Looks like JD’s friendship with Tucker made it okay to throw President Trump under the bus.
Rubio 2028.
I’ve got 6 kids ages 30 to 50. 5 boys and 1 girl. In 2024 all my sons voted for Trump. My daughter hates his arrogance so will never vote Republican. This cycle 3 of 5 voted Democrat because they felt Trump didn’t keep his promise to us. Trump blew it. I totally agree with Vance. I’m and old tea party Republican and think Trump has set us back 25 years.
No, Democrats have set us back 25 years and we’ll be set back a lot farther than that in the next two. Trump has the guts to try to get us out of the Democrat mess Obama & Biden left us with. Most people seem to have forgotten what life was like under those two.
Vance clearly doesn’t understand MAGA people , there is NO WAY they would ever intentionally vote democrat UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES !!! The results are due to voter fraud .
It was a mathematical and statistical impossibility for Biden to have won the 2020 election and I have no doubt many of these race results will prove to be statistical and mathematically impossible wins also .
JD Vance proves once again he is a politician in the worst sense of his parsed words. I really hope he doesn’t run in 2028.
Vance is channeling a democrat narrative.
His Maga political career is over!
Trump #1 promise was to stop the invasion if illegal aliens:
“We will close the border. We will stop the invasion of illegals into our country.”
“I will send troops to the southern border to repel the disastrous invasion of our country”
“I will end catch-and-release.”
“We will begin the largest deportation operation in the history of our country.”
“The drug cartels are waging war on America — and it’s now time for America to wage war on the cartels”
“We will make America safe again.”
“We will rebuild our once great cities, including our capital in Washington, D.C., making them safe, clean, and beautiful again.”
“I will… end the Green New Scam.”
I’m inclined to agree.
There are people who vote thinking they are fully informed because they read some headlines. Far too many do not dig for the truth.
I will find it very difficult to support Vance in 2028.
Is Vance another Pence? His reaction to this makes me wonder.
The worlds greatest armies…think Napoleon,…think German 3rd Reich…couldn’t win wars when fighting on multiple fronts. Trump has picked fights (verbally, economically with tariffs, and diplomatically) with every single nation on Earth at least once in the last 2 years as soon as they displeased him.
You simply can’t fight and win on all fronts (and left most of them unfinished). There ends up being so much noise and chaos that eventually that narrative takes over and becomes the message. Chaos works so well against Trump because its works on people regardless of their ideology or social status. LGBTQ people hate the anti-trans narrative,….average people bought into the affordability narrative (especially from oil shock from Iran war)…even people who favor immigration enforcement saw too much chaos on ICE enforcement. How about just push the pause button on a few of these initiatives? Rome wasn’t built in a day…our problems were decades in the making.
Most of us would have settled for just a couple of good solid wins instead of trying to reach Moscow before winter arrives. Now we have a long cold walk back to Paris.
Note that PDJT announced that US aid to Israel was going to be reduced on the eve of this election, which tells me that he saw some numbers and knew we were getting hurt by this.
The Op to split the MAGA base along these lines seems to have worked.
T. Carlson, savage Islamic mutants and the 0bamites are smiling this morning.
I’ll give Vance the benefit of the doubt at this juncture, but I don’t trust him in the least going forward.
We just entered into the CRISIS phase. here’s the playbook , never outlined better.
Notice how Vance is avoiding mentioning how he was the first person to put the idea to run for governor of Ohio in Vivek’s head after Elon Musk kicked out Vivek from DOGE.
I’m not sure that changing how the country enforces immigration as he suggests is the right way to recapture the enthusiasm of the people who have “defected” — if that was a deciding factor. I don’t have direct access to data that would tell me one way or another. But it has been expressed that one gripe is that the pace of enforcement is too slow—again, I’m not making a judgement—focusing on the one method he describes is not guaranteed to address that problem. At what point should we give up an effective tactic because it’s not palatable?
Also does it seem there a cleaving started here, where the VP is publicly distancing himself from the war, and PDJT by association, perhaps to increase his own appeal in 2028? I could be reading too much into the statement though.
There’s other things going on in the VP’s statement, however, those are the things that struck me first.
Who advised waiting for a kinetic end until after the elections? A kinetic end in May or even June and everything looks different. The alternative is to better explain that the economic siege is less risk to our troops and even though it takes longer, it will succeed.
