(Via Truth Social) – BREAKING NEWS: I am pleased to announce that the United States of America has entered into an Agreement with The Kingdom of Denmark, and Greenland, that gives the United States permanent control over security, and all other needs, in Greenland, completely addressing ALL of our many U.S. concerns. There will be NO COST to the United States!
At my direction, we worked with representatives of Denmark and Greenland to guarantee that the United States will FOREVER have the complete ability to do what is necessary in Greenland in order to secure and defend the security of Greenland, and the United States of America. Additionally, from now on, no U.S. adversary can EVER have a base in Greenland, have a military presence in Greenland, or make sensitive investments in Greenland, without our express written approval.
For over 100 years, Presidents have known the strategic importance of Greenland, but NONE of them were able to do anything about it. I am proud to be the President that permanently and conclusively addressed this very important situation. This is an “Infinite Life” Agreement, there is no end!

There are only a few sea routes from the Arctic:
-> Baffin Bay, between Greenland and the NW Territories
-> Greenland Sea, on the other side of Greenland and closer to Iceland
-> Barents Sea, north of Norway
-> Bering Strait, between Russia’s far east and Alaska
This is also a strategic move to control key access routes.

On August 28, Mark Carney spoke to the Prime Minister of Denmark and said they focused on the Arctic and strengthening their defence and security.
When Trump first proposed securing Greenland, Denmark was not enthusiastic about the idea.
I wonder what has happened to change Denmark’s attitude?
Are they unhappy with Canada’s new Associate Membership in the EU?
Are they possibly concerned that they may not be able to stop an EU/Canada takeover of Greenland?
Having a security agreement with the US would certainly protect Denmark’s control of Greenland.

There is no statement in this brief article that is true. Canada and Denmark wake up every day having forgotten the other exists.
Denmark has the same population and GDP as Tennessee. You don’t have to be that smart to figure out that you can finally get some payback from that useless frozen rock by making nice with the US.

Denmark also probably realized at some point that if we developed a strong presence in Greenland, there would be money to be made. Money always talks. Smart Greenland leaders may have realized this first.

We were in Nuuk earlier this month, sailing to/from to the NW Passage. Incredibly beautiful, unspoiled terrain (summer of course), sunny, temps in the 40s. Greenland’s national museum features many exhibits detailing Denmark’s colonization and exploitation of Greenland and its people. There’s not a lot of love going on there. Greenlanders pay a flat 42% income tax for a poor level of public services even after Denmark’s annual subsidy of about US$600mm. Kids are paid to attend college, essentially juco trade schools. Fishing and tourism drive their economy. If Greenlanders could rid themselves of Denmark economically, I believe they would. It will be interesting to see what happens after a decade of US defense dollars are pumped into Greenland.
The cost of healthcare is probably the biggest concern for Greenlanders, who currently receive Danish government-funded medicine.

Canada may be oblivious to the Russian threat in the Arctic but the Danes and the Norwegians are keenly aware of the risk to their Arctic island settlements from Russia had they not embraced America’s protective presence in Greenland.
Incidents like the 2022 severing of the only communications cable between Norway and their arctic island territory of Svalbard, (formerly Spitsbergen) by a Russian trawler may have spurred the Greenland deal.
Putin’s had his cap set on Svalbard for quite some time because if its proximity to the Kola Peninsula, home to Russia’s nuclear-armed naval fleet.
Now that American muscle is moving into Greenland, incidents like that are far less likely to happen again.
