President Trump notes on his Truth Social post how the AI development overall is becoming part of a political operation within the U.S. With President Obama, Elon Musk and Dario Amodei all requesting govt regulatory capture of the AI frontiers, President Trump notes he is opposed to their “conspiracy theory” schemes.
This cleaving was always going to happen. I wrote about it on Christmas Day 2024.

What happens next is anyone’s guess. However, the greatest likelihood is an AI driven ‘October Surprise.’
Right now, I would suggest that a fully function Automated-AI frontier virus has already been created. The gate of the targeted entity or system has already been compromised, and there is someone waiting for the just right moment to launch the AI virus to take control of the system.
The timing is the “October surprise” and the event itself will be highly public, defined as both a national security threat and public threat.
The malicious AI event will capture the attention of everyone; it may even include physical harm and will most certainly involve institutional damage.
Immediate reactive responses will be demanded of the private sector AI developers and big brother govt.
The frontier group know the vulnerabilities; the political group know how to optimize for greatest growth of govt. The rest of us are just waiting to find out who is the target. [Banking, social media, Finance systems, Transportation (airlines), Energy Grid, Defense or Communication networks.]
We have a few weeks before we see the triggering event deployed.
Barack Obama, Chuck Schumer, Elon Musk and Dario Amodei will say, “we warned,” and put blame on irresponsible Donald Trump and David Sacks.
That’s the stage set for the October surprise.

Keep in mind that right now there is no sec.230 protection for AI frontier labs. If they create some outcome that is profoundly negative (like, taking down a banking system), the AI developer is on the hook for the consequences. The “risk” part of their business plan is now elevating amid actuaries within each organization. Eventually, there is going to be an entire new financial industry, AI Insurance.
Is someone stopping the AI companies from regulating themselves, if they’re so worried about it? Why would government be needed?
Regulation is not for regulating the object of concern, it’s for picking winners and freezing out anyone else. Whoever pays the most is the winner.
Such is the primary purpose of regulation as we know it. It picks and protects the winners and locks out the losers.
And impedes innovation. In the AI arena there are players that say they have $4,000 mini Apple computers that can do the same as gigantic data centers in 1/10th the time. Jay Valentine is a big spokesman for this view.

AI should be treated like nuclear weapons. it had the potential for even more destruction but without it being obvious who is using it.
And unlike many other technological innovations that made our life better, it has the potential to violate the 1st amendment, 4th amendment, 5th amendment and 14th amendment especially the way law enforcement wants to use it. And once Trump is out of office the next administration may not be as supportive of the constitution.

I highly recommend listening to this interview. DHH (created Ruby on Rails) sat down with Lex last year and was against AI for programming. The first discussion at 02:56 (one of the two time stamp links I left in place — you can click the links to go to those portion of the video the others for your perusing) shows how his view changed with the “invention” of agentic coding. He discusses a lot of good things in this segment.
The overall theme is you can control how you feel about things. AI is bad is you think and dwell on that outlook (yes, there is potential bad things, but also potential to counter act the bad with the same AI). I on’t know how things will turn out, but I also agree we don’t need to control things. Be Leary of those wanting control. Musk has changed his tune because he gets that it’s a race. I think he knows how bad actors can abuse it, but there’s no reason to keep it from the “good”. Live your best life.

The AI landscape has changed over the last year. Vibe coding is on the way out and Spec driven coding has grown. Spec driven development is much better than vibe coding. Last year AI code generation was still not up to the quality as it is this year but it has gotten a lot better. However still it requires guidance and oversight.
Why specifically do you say “it has gotten a lot better”? Where is the proof of that?
The only notable change I’ve seen in the AI landscape in the past year is more warnings — admissions, finally — that AI can make mistakes. Still.
I work with AI and I’m attesting to it based in first-hand experience. The code generated by AI in 2026 is much better than it was in 2024 and 2025. That’s why the adoption rate of AI has climbed. Demand for AI is through the roof. Don’t take my word for it, just listen to the remarks by Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia.
ditto, I made a website for a fundraiser and last year I had to do a lot of copying and pasting along with troubleshooting. This year I just tell the agent what I want, what the problem was, what feature to add and it does it and it works. Last year a lot of the code had bus I had to manually fix and trouble shoot. It’s pretty amazing. DHH said it best, he was able to make a utility rewrite in C++, a language he’s not familiar in and it did it great. He then tested it across various models and most did it. He’s not too familiar with C++. He could do it if he wanted but the agents were able to make it happen.
Like everything, AI is a tool and can make you grow tremendously or hold you back. Just like money, look at lottery winners: some prosper and others it was the worst thing to happen to them.

Altman, Dario and others want government regulation (which they will control) to limit AI to their companies. They can’t afford competition from “Open Source” AI. They’ll do anything to end it.
“Open Source” AI is what benefits the people. It allows all citizens to install AI on their own computers for their own purposes with no government prying eyes and at a miniscule fraction of the cost of Anthropic and Open AI.

Over the past 10 days, major financial institutions experienced serious issues (resulting in catastrophic failures of back office processing capabilities of trades, transactions, etc.) in the Beta NXT backbone of their computer systems. I wonder if that was related to all of this?
