Dept of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and Dept of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin hold a press conference to announce emergency DoT and DHS action to initiate an emergency shutdown of regulated training centers for commercial driver’s licenses.
Actions announced include DoT (1) Emergency removal of 110 commercial driver’s license (CDL) schools associated with more than 5,000 drivers who failed English language proficiency tests. (2) Launching a nationwide audit of third-party CDL skills testers and states’ oversight of the testers. (3) Results from 40-state investigation of additional training schools. From DHS (1) Synchronized single-day sweep targeting more than 200 training schools across 23 states. (2) Joint coordination with USDOT. (3) HSI and ICE updates on ongoing investigations targeting CDL-related businesses and schools.

What Secretary Mullin outlined in his remarks is stunning. During one taskforce setup, in the first day they stopped 14 big rig drivers with a CDL that said “No Name Given” for the truck driver’s identification. They didn’t even have names on their commercial driver’s licenses.
At 41:10 of the video, a reporter downplays the issue claiming only 1% of the accidents on the road are caused by drivers who do not speak English. Secretary Mullin responds with a very intense pushback against the reporter.

As a person that drives a minimum of 30,000 miles a year for work (not much compared to truckers), I applaud anything that can be done to make our roadways safer.
The amount of stupidity I’ve seen on the road since 2020 has skyrocketed, and I’m convinced it’s largely attributed to foreigners that have no concept of traffic laws and rules of the road.

A visit to my current city of Glendale CA will turn you xenophobic in a week. These foreign drivers treat traffic and safety laws like an inconvenience that deserve to be ignored. You take your life in your hands using a crosswalk as the drivers seem to think hitting you is an option if it will shave 15 seconds off their drive time. The rate of hit and runs here sets the state record every year. And it’s in Mercedes and BMWs… not junk.
When we visited Mexico back in the 90’s it was a free for all… all the drivers just totally ignored any stops etc… this was La Paz. I don’t recall seeing any lights but talk about yes, taking your life in your hands just to cross at a corner.

Not just revoke their licenses. Arrest and then DEPORT the illegal drivers. Get them out of the US permanently.

Its not quite capital punishment but the capital markets are going to help correct the issue. A recent Supreme Court ruling made freight brokers liable for any accidents caused by drivers they contract with. It is already causing major changes in just a few short months as compliance/driver screening becomes front and center.
So the big bad boogie men at Lloyds are causing insurance premiums to go up across the industry and anyone employing an illegal will be driven into bankruptcy. Once the market clears, premiums for the better operators will come back down.

Somebody I used to know witnessed what he was sure was a drug drop from a moving freight train. In less that two minutes, a person darted out from beyond the right-of-way, grabbed the bag, and left. The guy who witnessed the drop was pretty shaken. He wanted to report the episode but was afraid that his body might be found in the woods.

Let me clarify what it means when you see “No Name Given” on an official document. I see it in my line of work- there are people from certain countries like Burma, even India or other Asian countries who do not have a first name, only a last name. I know it’s weird. So when they come here, the government puts “No Name Given” on official documents instead of a first name, since they don’t have one. No official documents would have just ” No Name Given ” on them, that would be insane.

A couple of years ago my husband called 911 on a truck driver who was repeatedly drifting out of his lane. We had all our kids with us.

I’ve always been a cautious driver but now I’m extremely cautious and it’s still not enough. The crazy drivers are everywhere now. It has NEVER been this bad.
In PA, the Paul Miller law restricting any and all mobile device use while driving went into effect this summer. All drivers statewide can now be fined as a primary offense for even looking at a phone while the engine is running, even while the vehicle is stopped.
Paul was killed by a tractor trailer driver who dropped a cell phone while driving, crossed the highway, and clipped several vehicles, pushing Paul’s car off the road killing him. The truck driver had several prior incidents of distracted driving. It’s really hard to find his name for some reason, but enough searching and you find it is Jaswinder Singh, a commercial driver from NJ.
There was very little media digging into how Mr Singh got his CDL 15 years ago, but knowing now how the trucking industry was so lax in issuing licenses, maybe the real problem wasn’t distracted driving requiring the state to regulate all its citizens.
This is an easy fix, have the scale house/ weight stations staffed by DHS. When a truck comes in the inspect driver and a quick English test.

I went to a Dr appointment this morning in a city nearby. I sat at a red light in the downtown for a few minutes and counted 24 cameras in just the 4 corner light poles. Located at varying heights and places around the circumference of the poles.
I’m curious how far the sight line is on these cameras pointing in every direction. It’s insane.

Over 1 million miles OTR driver after military retirement I observed that the really dangerous and stupidly aggressive drivers of semi’s were almost always towel heads.

My son drives tractor-trailers for UPS.
He said that, as of last year, all CDLs were required to conform to the Enhanced/Real ID standards.
He said that there are still a lot of drivers who haven’t upgraded their CDLs though.
Maybe DOT should order an immediate upgrade for all those licenses and prohibit names such as “No Name Given.”

Years ago I participated in a huge lawsuit involving an innocent driver that was hit by an illegal alien driving a commercial truck.
The innocent driver suffered horrendous injuries that included a brain bleed and subséquent brain damage that returned this adult male to the mental and physical state of a three year old. As a fully grown adult male he had to be kept in a cage due to the dangers his anger and rage and other issues presented to his caretakers. The day in the life video was hard to watch.
The company that owned the truck and hired the illegal went bankrupt almost immediately, likely to avoid their financial responsibility.
That’s how they get away with it. The company, usually one sketchy person acting as the broker, will re-emerge with a new DOT and US MC number within 2 weeks. The application process is online and as long as the newly renamed company has a clean DMV record and pays the fees the numbers are assigned automatically.
The thing about all this AI doing things automatically and at lightning speed, also means there are NO humans in the process. No human to see something that appears odd, or suspect, or downright dangerous, able to deny the application or take any immediate corrective action.

There was insurance and a great deal of it. To keep it simple I did not include the rest of the story. The victim was taken to the hospital where serious malpractice was allegedly committed. There were a number of other parties who shared some responsibility for the damages. The illegal had a series of DUIs before he was deported previously. I am forgetting the rest but I do remember the whole package eventually settled somewhere between 10 and 20 million. The deep pocket défendants had layers of liability coverage. The man required lifetime care. Of course, a large number of lawyers made money on the litigation.
This type of action is so overdue. Thank God we have an administration that is finally doing something to help the people of this country.

Constant random truck stops throughout the US and if not a valid license then impound the truck and cargo. Charge an onerous fee to release it from impound and this will increase the awareness of the companies contracting drivers and likewise trucking companies to be in compliance with the laws regulating a Class 1 Driver’s License.

The problem is NOT the CDL drivers that can not read road signs or have even the most basic understanding of our traffic laws. The problem lies squarely on the shoulders of those in government who have deliberately subverted our laws and granted driving privileges to people who are functionally illiterate and should not be behind the wheel of any motor vehicle on US roads. While the legalities of citizenship status is of major concern here, and must be addressed, it is secondary to the problem of granting these licenses in the first place.
What about reciprocal agreements the US would have with other nations as far as recognizing a foreigner’s license on US soil. Can an Englishman from the UK drive a car in America using his UK license? I believe a US driver’s license is valid for renting a car in all of Europe. Do I first need to demonstrate an understanding of a nations road signs before renting a car in that country? I realize this extends beyond the CDL and heavy trucks, but there might be some legal precedents in place here.

I’ve changed my driving habits a lot thanks to all this, I take secondary back roads as much as I can and leave a little earlier if it’s a longer route there- I don’t care.
I highly recommend it, it’s much nicer on the scenic routes.
But this said, we shouldn’t feel like we have to live this way to not get killed by a foreigner driving an 18 wheeler here in our country.
Our best course of action is get on the phones and keep up the pressure on the deportations, anything we can think of to that end, lets all get busy on it on.
If they are gone, we’ve gotten our country back.
I do something similar for air travel.
Rather than flying into and out of the adequate airport with easy parking 30 minutes from my house, I take evasive action to avoid the DEI-inflicted major airline I’d need to use. Instead, I drive 2.5 hours to Dallas Love Field to fly on Southwest. My grandkids often are flying with me. The hassle is worth it.
What about the weigh stations??

This summer a dozen or more fatal accidents have occurred on one, less than 25 mile, road. And I know that they were all caused by 18 wheeler trucks.
My car insurance has gone up 3times higher too.
All of us suffer higher insurance rates because of this.
Remove all CDL testing from all DMVs and prosecute the ones that have been caught selling CDLs to foreigners.
Open ALL weigh stations 24/7 (been in massive lines myself)or all federal highway money to all states stops. ALL state police have become revenue generators for the states going after trucks except those drivers who are not qualified.
Not all but most state police are basically DOT that should be in truck stops daily because you go in them and you can pick many off.

All the blue states hand out drivers licenses to every illegal alien like candy. Why are we placing such emphasis on CDLs when there must be millions of aliens not able to read road signs and that must lead to an enormous number of accidents?
Do states not identify accidents caused by illegals regardless what they’re driving?

Between the foreigners driving trucks and people driving doped up the American roads have become very dangerous.

The rate is irrelevant. What matter is every single incident is an actual human victim that did not have to happen, and would not have happened if it were not for the criminal neglect of the government whose job it is to protect its citizens.
It is good to see government actually doing their job for a change.
