I’m sure she is a very nice person. Mrs Graham likely has all the best intents and inclinations. However, unfortunately I have strong reservations that Republicans can hold that South Carolina senate seat if Darline Graham goes into a general election against a Democrat candidate.

I don’t have a dog in this fight. I don’t live in SC, and I don’t know enough about either candidate to say one way or the other.
My sense is that both of them have +/-‘s.
What kind of evidence would you like to see? No, I cannot produce a grainy video of Darline Nardone (that is her legal name, BTW, not Darline Graham, which she is using now) whispering that she is not giving up the seat because this is the most exhilarating thing that has ever happened to her and she is loving the adulation, and, of course, the perks are pretty good, too!
My “assertion” is based on the fact that an obviously unqualified woman, who evidently had a normal life a few months ago, was placed into her brother’s Senate seat temporarily, upon his sudden death. Originally, she had said that she wouldn’t seek the seat in November but then she changed her mind.
My assertion, if you will, is that she got in there and loved the gig so much that she now doesn’t want to leave! Just like far too many of them, in both parties, in both chambers!!
I agree she should have declined to run, but boy howdy do I have my doubts about Ralph Norman. Being a southerner, something about him reminds me of the jerk from high school who claimed he slept with you. He makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck.
Agreed – he is too smooth by half and we already have a Senate full of those! Not sure if there was anyone in the wings that might have been a better option to go against him but once Darline said she was in, and DJT endorsed her, that possibility evaporated, unfortunately.

She is way out of her depth. This nonsense of the widow or family member, in this case, stepping in and being pushed to make a play for the seat, based on sentimentality, is old and tired. The issues facing this country are just too great to entrust them to someone who clearly hasn’t even thought about the issues. I would go so far as to say that I wouldn’t be surprised if she couldn’t find Taiwan on a map.
Trump tries too hard to be kingmaker, and in this instance, it’s silly. Darlene never should have been put forward and the president should have stayed out of it.

No Norman says look at my voting record. 95% conservative. Darline may be a nice person but she has NO RECORD, and is endorsed by Lisa Murkowski. We do not need another Murkowski in the Senate.
I don’t consider Norman a career politician. He was a successful businessman long before jumping into politics later in life. I think Norman was just playing it safe. He let Darlene hang herself.
At the very least she (and him, to be honest) needed to know about the security implications of the Taiwan Chip makers falling into the hands of the Chinese.

With all due respect to Darline Graham, I think that any of us would have been able to answer that question better. Granted, Darline was only ‘appointed’ a few weeks ago, however she has had plenty of time to do her homework and brush up on current affairs. It may have been a nice gesture on President Trump’s part, to temporarily give her this position in memory of Lindsey, but I don’t think it is a wise decision on her part to actually now run for office……or to endorse her.

Gov. McMaster appointed Darline Graham Nordone to fill the remaining term of her brother, Lindsey Graham. iMO that was a neutral good appointment.
Last night it was evident Ms. Graham is a newbie. As much as I want her to continue the strong support that our SC military had with Lindsey I don’t think she can win the Senate seat. I think Ralph Norman is a better choice to represent us as the Republican candidate.

When I jokingly compared Darline Grahamnesty running for the U.S. Senate to Aunt Bee running for Mayberry Town Council, I had no idea that Miss Darline would so profoundly prove me right.

I am just a dummy in Nowhereville, but even I know Tiawan makes most of the chips used in the world and nothing happens these days without chips.

Oddly, her honest answer to the Tawain question made me think. Any candidate in any race who gets asked a national security question should honestly respond that without security clearance one can’t intelligently answer such questions, OTHER than to state that all major events in the world (wars, economic crisis, etc) effect other countries. The world is practically instantaneously connected (communication, economics, etc). The world is like a kaleidoscope. When one piece of glass moves, the entire picture changes. In a world of not pretending, she gave an honest answer, but the stakes are too high to vote for her.
Ms. Graham isn’t ready for the big league. I give her credit for trying, but we need the seat to be R and I don’t think she is can win in the general. Best to cut bait in the primary.
