They dont make very good cars. Industries shouldnt be protected if they’re inferior. Why is anthropic, for example, asking the govt to protect them from open source ai which costs anout a tenth of what the american ai charge.
During WWII people had rationed gas, ration cards to allow them to purchase limited items like sugar, no nylon hosiery for the women, Victory Gardens to supply fresh vegetables — everything was limited. They didn’t complain. Husbands, brothers, fathers were gone. Letters took months to arrive. People trusted, worked, helped each other, did not complain about the rationed gasoline.
Why do I now hear about gas prices? Yes, it hurts the budget. Yes, one has to limit trips to town. But we behave like clones. The news media tells us every hour that gas is up. We run around like our hair is on fire. Get tough, America!

My adult (early 30’s) kids were griping about gas prices 2 months ago.
I told them what Iran has done for 50 years to us, to our people.
I said President Trump is the first American President in my lifetime to make Iran pay any price for it. I said, he is making your future more secure, more safe, less likely for you to experience world war 3. That shut them up. No more complaints about gas prices.
They now know it was long overdue. It sure as hell was.

Manufacturing cars in the USA would never happen if the President was in any way influenced by Milton Friedman or libertarians. They sold out American workers on all fronts and then looked away as China pumped fentanyl into our country killing tens of thousands. The DSA are a natural consequence of these deep thinkers.
